  10. The Islamic University of Lebanon is a private Lebanese institution of higher education, licensed under decree n° 8600 of the 12th of June 1996. The Vanished Imam Sayed Moussa Sadr brought this idea forth and laid the groundwork for establishing this institution. The departed Imam Sheikh Mohammad Mahdi Shamseddine (May Allah sanctify his soul) made his best endeavors and utmost efforts to build this institution. Today, Imam Sheikh Abdul Amir Qabalan, the vice president of the Supreme Shiite Council and the chairman of its Board of Trustees, continues to develop and improve the University. Dr. Hassan Chalabi has been the President of this institution since it was founded. This University seeks to contribute to the Supreme Shiite Council's solution in Lebanon, which deals with the national coalition and consolidation of the different sects and religions in the Lebanese civil community, where one political framework encompasses an equitable state for all its citizens. Therefore, this institution is committed to providing faith and knowledge as an inspirational source for the nation, the citizen, the state, and the Lebanese society. The Islamic University is a national project for the future, arising from Lebanon's vision as a pioneer in all the different domains of modern knowledge. This institution aims to popularize and deepen higher education while considering the historical and contemporary conditions that are indispensable to a balanced perspective so that learning becomes the bedrock for the development of the nation. The University recognizes the 21st century's scientific and economic developments, which present exciting new prospects for Lebanon, the Arabic world, and the Islamic world. Furthermore, it contributes to the scientific advancement that keeps pace with all the different societies that preceded us in modern science. Therefore, the University has moved to implement new specializations, improving the quality of the curriculum, and meeting job market demands in the domain of business and services in Lebanon and the Arab and Islamic world. This institution has been working to improve the academic level and to strengthen cooperation and coordination of educational and cultural ties with other universities and institutions inside and outside Lebanon. University officials are fully aware that any single institution will never achieve these high ambitions no matter how qualified or efficient. They hope that the Lebanese, Arabic, and Islamic civil communities will also play such a vital role in accomplishing this excellent task. Society can provide different kinds of moral and physical support from individuals, institutions, and associations. The Islamic University of Lebanon is a nonprofit institution. It aims to provide both Lebanese and non-Lebanese students with higher education without discrimination based on race, nationality, religion, or sect, in the spirit of openness towards all the different world cultures. The Islamic University of Lebanon aims at: Providing a means of higher academic education in different pieces of literature, sciences, and specialized knowledge domains, Training a highly qualified academic staff, Paying particular attention to scientific research and developing it, Paying close attention to Arabic and Islamic studies, Showing interest in our cultural heritage, spreading it, and contributing to saving the values of righteousness and virtue of the humanitarian civilization, Enhancing scientific and cultural ties with various universities and their Lebanese, Arabic, and foreign scientific staff. The Islamic University of Lebanon is a grand edifice of science and learning. This place is precious and resides in the heart, as a national college for Lebanese citizens. Every year, hundreds of students graduate from this University, educated with science and knowledge to shape the bright future we want for our youth, the country's pioneers. Founding this University meets an essential need in a world where no one should dominate, and everyone is a shining beacon of knowledge to counter the threat posed by violence. We must insist on the value of science and knowledge in delivering the image of the true Islam, as a civilized universal message that lies at the heart of the past and expands into the future all over the world. Our University is a national institution that welcomes knowledge seekers, no matter which religion or region they belong to. We particularly want to encourage the Lebanese people to be armed with the sciences. Science is like an ornament: it is knowledge itself, and a discipline, and an education. Keep away from violence and perversion. Be pious scholars and charitable. Cooperate to seek pure knowledge in conformity with Allah's Messenger saying, "Seek knowledge even as far away as China." 11. The Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK) is a private Catholic higher education institution founded by the Lebanese Maronite Order (LMO) in 1938. From that moment, these monks, who had been entrusted with a teaching mission for more than three centuries, have undertaken the management of USEK. Their remit was to provide university teaching in conformity with the labor market requirements and close association with scientific research. Being a national institution, USEK has brought its teachings and curricula into line with the Lebanese state's official requirements, which acknowledges the diplomas it delivers. Furthermore, USEK remains careful in achieving a synthesis of tradition and modernism in the educational options it offers while remaining true to a Christian humanism, which is imprinted on the general education it provides. Due to the pressure to democratize higher education, the University is deploying necessary efforts to fight exclusion and abide by a non-elitist policy, albeit without making any concessions concerning education quality. The establishment of decentralized regional centers (in Zahle, Chekka, and Rmeich) thus springs out of the wish to implement the right to higher education. USEK has adapted well in light of soaring socioeconomic development and has created new vocational specializations to diversify its education and meet the needs of the labor market. Nowadays, USEK welcomes more than 8,000 students across its twelve faculties and three institutes, i.e., fifteen academic units, which offer a broad array of diversified high-level education. Studies in USEK are based on the modular system of units, which are accounted for on a half-year basis, or "credits." Also, the adoption of such a structure enables students to enjoy flexibility on all levels for the prospective degree courses' academic and financial management. It also enables the Promotion of students' mobility in Lebanon and abroad: Credits can be accumulated and transferred from one University to another. Personalization of the students' training: Each student's academic course is adapted to his(her) personal and vocational project. Flexible Organisation of the semester: Students are allowed the freedom to choose the number of credits (while abiding by the minimum and maximum numbers set by the University) and the courses taken during the semester (out of a group of courses that are required for a given curriculum), thus enabling them to ameliorate how they set their schedule. Development of close pedagogical support: The teachers' follow-up and support are reinforced by the fact that thanks to this system, education is centered on the students. The offer of diversified courses to students promotes a multidisciplinary approach and exchanges within and among disciplines. Facilitation reorientation: Thanks to the establishment of links among the various education courses proposed, students can easily change their curriculum without losing all their achievements. USEK cultivates a strong feeling of belonging among its students, thanks to its welcoming student life and the multiple services. Hence, outside the framework of courses, student life in USEK takes several shapes and offers new occasions to develop new competencies and knowledge and build an extensive network of contacts: a student magazine, social associations, and clubs, pastoral work, cultural trips, student parties, etc. Since the University is keen on emphasizing the culture of the body and that of the mind, it also offers students a broad choice of sports activities. The program includes basketball, volleyball, football, tennis, table tennis, oriental dance, yoga, ski, etc. Also, USEK has several sports teams, which take part regularly in competitions among universities and national and international championships. USEK has always been interested in research activities, as proven by the international magazines published by the University (Melto, Parole de l'Orient), the annals and proceedings of high-level conferences and seminars held at USEK, in addition to the numerous publications, which are the result of individual or collaborative research works and which – by and large – pertain to a broad theme of diversification, namely that of the Lebanese and Near-Eastern heritage (musical, theological, liturgical, literary, legal, historical, architectural, technical, scientific, etc.). In this context, exchanges within and among disciplines are promoted, thus establishing links among USEK's faculties and institutes to achieve better collaboration. Moreover, the University has access to much resource equipment earmarked for research activities and put at the disposal of teachers/researchers and students. As higher education became widespread and the socioeconomic crisis in the country grew harsher, USEK has set the following objectives for itself: Make higher education accessible to all equally, without discrimination and, most importantly, without excluding economically deprived students Preserve the quality of its students' education and training to better live in society and their vocational sphere. Since its founding, USEK seeks, and by Article 92 of the Constitutions of the OLM (ed. 2012) and the Catholic Church's social teaching on universities, to contribute to all its students' development through quality educational programs and research in various fields of study. By providing a high-quality American-style education to its students, USEK intends to prepare future leaders for innovation, professional growth, and life-long learning, in Lebanon, within the Middle East, and throughout the world. USEK is committed to a faith-based educational development of its students rooted in the Catholic tradition, whereby spiritual values and ethics and respect for cultural and religious pluralism are promoted. 16. Roskilde University was initially established to challenge academic traditions and experiment with new ways to create and acquire knowledge. At RUC, we cultivate a project and a problem-oriented approach to knowledge creation. We believe that the most relevant results are obtained by solving real problems in collaboration with others. We employ an interdisciplinary approach because no major problems are ever resolved based on any single academic discipline alone. We also cultivate transparency because we passionately believe that participation and knowledge-sharing are prerequisites for freedom of thought, democracy, tolerance, and development. We shall create the opportunities that no one can yet imagine. We must also help develop sustainable solutions to the significant challenges we will face in the future, both nationally and globally, in areas such as the environment, inequality, democracy, health, and cultural coexistence. Roskilde University is a Magna Charta Universitatum member institution. The Magna Charta Universitatum is a document that was signed by 388 rectors and heads of universities from all over Europe and beyond on 18 September 1988, the 900th anniversary of the University of Bologna. 19. Freie Universität Berlin was founded in 1948 by professors and students, in response to the persecution faced by students who took a critical eye of the system at Universität Unter den Linden, at that time located in the Soviet sector of the divided city. The idea of founding a free university found widespread support in the international community, including financial support. This outpouring of aid helped pave the way for Freie Universität to become a university with an outstanding international reputation. The principles of freedom and internationality have guided the university's development ever since. Since the university's founding in December of 1948, the academic ethos of Freie Universität Berlin has always been defined by three values: truth, justice, and freedom. The years 1968, 1990, and 2007 mark turning points in the history of Freie Universität. The university was one of Germany's important sites for the student protests of the 1960s, which sparked a trend toward greater openness, equality, and democracy. Then, after German reunification in 1990, Freie Universität Berlin shifted its emphasis, increasing its research activities. The number of graduates, successful doctoral candidates, and publications also grew by a significant measure. The basis for the university's successful new approach was a series of fundamental reforms, including the introduction of modern management structures in the university's administration, reorganization of the departments, and use of funding to support specific aims. In 2007, Freie Universität Berlin was selected in the Excellence Initiative jointly sponsored by the German federal government and the federal states' governments. It was one of nine universities in Germany to receive distinction in all three funding lines, a step that has enabled the university to solidify and further expand its position as an "international network university." In 2012 during the second funding round of the Excellence Initiative, it was selected again and is now one of eleven universities of excellence in Germany. Freie Universität Berlin is a leading research institution. One of the German universities successful in all three funding lines in the federal and state Excellence Initiative, thereby receiving additional funding for its institutional future development strategy. Freie Universität can thus take its place as an international network university in the global competition among universities. Development and assessment of research projects occur within various focus areas, research networks, and platforms for interdisciplinary collaborative research. The Excellence Initiative's performance provided funding for several new graduate schools and transdisciplinary research clusters. In particular, the graduate schools play a vital role in developing internationally competitive research centers of excellence. Freie Universität Berlin is a broad-based university with 15 departments and central institutes offering over 150-degree programs across a wide range of subjects. Freie Universität Berlin was founded on December 4, 1948, by students, scholars, and scientists to support the American allied forces and politicians in Berlin. The move was sparked by the persecution faced by students who took a critical eye on the system at the former Universität Unter den Linden, located in the Soviet sector of the divided city. Students and academics wanted to be free to pursue their learning, teaching, and research activities at Freie Universität without being subject to political influence. Generous donations from the United States enabled Freie Universität to build some of its central facilities, including the Benjamin Franklin University Hospital and the Henry Ford Building. In a nod to the university's founding history, the seal of Freie Universität still features the words truth, justice, and freedom. In 2007, the university dedicated a memorial to the founding students killed by the Soviet secret service. The university also presents its Freedom Award to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to freedom. To remain relevant and to compete academically and intellectually from its isolated position in West Berlin, Freie Universität made connections with academic institutions and leading literary figures in Germany, elsewhere in Europe, and worldwide. What started of necessity soon became a success strategy: Freie Universität currently maintains roughly 105 partnerships at the university-wide level and about 330 university partnerships within the Erasmus academic exchange network. 45 institute partnerships. Freie Universität is located in the southwest of Berlin, in Dahlem's garden district, which had already become a top-ranked location for research and study in the early 20th century. Academic activity in Dahlem was supported by Friedrich Althoff, Ministerial Director at the Prussian Ministry of Culture, who proposed the founding of "a German Oxford" at that time. The first new buildings housed government academic and scientific agencies and new institutes of the former University of Berlin. Also, the Kaiser Wilhelm Society – the precursor of the Max Planck Society – maintained various institutes in Dahlem from the time it was founded in 1911. A dynamic group of scientists, including Albert Einstein, Werner Heisenberg, and Max Planck, performed pioneering research at the new site, earning multiple Nobel Prizes. In 1938, in what is now the Hahn-Meitner Building, nuclear fission occurred. Otto Hahn and Lise Meitner had spent more than two decades working together there toward that aim. Since it was first founded, Freie Universität Berlin has used former buildings of the Kaiser Wilhelm Society and brought several architecturally innovative buildings of its own to the area. Freie Universität is made up of groups of buildings all located within walking distance of one another. The campus planners designed it along the American college campus lines, a novelty in postwar Germany. The permanent exhibition "Future from the Very Beginning" (Zukunft von Anfang an) in the Henry Ford Building of Freie Universität highlights the university's rich and varied history, from its founding in 1948 right up to the present day. Photographs, early films, radio reports, and contemporary printed materials show the university's position at the center of contemporary events right from the start. The Henry Ford Building exhibition is open to the public at no charge during regular building opening hours (Garystraße 35, 14195 Berlin, 7:30 a.m.–8 p.m. Monday through Friday).

  22. The "National Graduate School of Engineering Chemistry of Lille" (École Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Lille, ENSCL) was founded in 1894 as the "Institut de Chimie de la Faculté des Sciences de Lille." It is a public institution of higher learning supervised by the Ministry of National Education and Research and authorized to award the ENSCL MSc in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering recognized by the French Engineering Accreditation Commission upon completing the curriculum. ENSCL is a member of the Gay-Lussac Federation that regroups 20 Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Schools. Like in every French Engineering School, the program's duration is three years, after 2 or 3 years of preparation (intensive undergraduate preparatory program in mathematics, physics, and chemistry. On behalf of everyone at the International Relations Office, I would like to welcome you to the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Lille (ENSCL). Studying abroad is an exciting adventure, an opportunity to discover a new culture, and a great way to learn more about yourself in the process. However, living in a foreign environment, you may encounter unfamiliar challenges and, at times, feel lost and frustrated. Our office is full of essential information on campus life, Lille, and France in general. We look forward to providing services, resources, and programs that will enhance your experience at the ENSCL and during your stay. We invite you to make the International Office your "home away from home" and hope that you will drop by often for advice, information, and social events. Students gradually learn about future professions through economic sciences and management, conferences, and plant visits. They complete an engineering project at the end of their studies, most often in an industrial setting. During the first year (semesters S5-S6), students consolidate their fundamental knowledge in the essential practices of chemistry, physical chemistry, kinetics, thermodynamics, analytical chemistry, and inorganic and organic chemistry. The second-year (semesters S7-S8) focuses on the applied aspects of chemistry: organic chemistry, polymer chemistry, solid-state chemistry, materials science, and chemical engineering. Practicals, some of which are genuine mini-projects, allow students to familiarise themselves with the "scientific method" and learn to take the initiative. For semester S8, Students choose one of the following three fields of study: "Biomass", "Chemical specialties and formulation," or "Materials science". A third-year abroad is not only offered but encouraged. In this regard, ENSCL has established many relationships with institutions in the European Union (LEONARDO programs) and the rest of the world. International students are also much appreciated within the engineering program (see international students). Physical education is obligatory in the first year of the engineering program. To this end, we offer, with the help of an extensive Physical and Sporting Activities University Service (SUAPS), the means to participate in several physical activities, such as soccer, rugby, basketball, volleyball, handball, field hockey, track and field, cross-country, tennis and many more. The Sports Office (BDS), run by students for students, is another tool that is used to promote sports within our structure for any level of play. The purpose of this association, comprised of second-year students, is to represent its members, improve students' working conditions, organize leisure activities for the entire school, prepare an annual school gala, participate in student events and establish close ties to the administration, the students and the alumni. This association was created in 1983 and is governed legally by the 1st of July 1901 as a non-profit association. The program leads to an engineering degree and can lead to a Master's degree. ENSCL offers an International Undergraduate Programme (CHEMISTRY INTERNATIONAL STUDIES), allowing both French and international students with science A-levels to enter one of the 19 Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Schools in the Gay-Lussac Federation (FGL) without sitting the entry exam. The selection of a candidate is based on a thorough review of their application. The program lasts two years (semesters S1-S4). The courses are taught in Lille, Rennes, or Clermont-Ferrand. This preparatory program has been designed to host students having completed their secondary schooling within the last year, issued from France or abroad.
