About Me

  1. UW holds high positions in international rankings, such as the Times Higher Education World University Ranking and the Academic Ranking of World Universities (also known as the Shanghai Ranking). Taking into account the total number of research universities that reaches 20 thousand, the University of Warsaw is among the top 3% of the world’s best universities. According to international rankings, it also is the best university in Poland and one of the leading ones in this region of Europe. Also, the University of Warsaw holds very good positions in comparative evaluations of the quality of education, in particular study programs, such as the Quacquarelli Symonds World University Ranking and Eduniversal Best Masters and MBA Worldwide. 16 programs provided by UW have been listed in QS World University Rankings by Subject 2017. 15 programs offered by UW have been listed in Eduniversal Best Masters & MBA Ranking 2017. The quality of education at the University of Warsaw is confirmed by the annual appraisals conducted by the university itself which show that the majority of students are satisfied with their selection of the university and the education program. The University’s strongest points are its prestige, development opportunities, the study environment. The quality of education is also confirmed by research conducted with the University’s graduates. The University of Warsaw conducts the largest research enterprise of its kind in Europe by monitoring the careers of former students. Results demonstrate that having a diploma from the University of Warsaw is a definite asset in the job market 94% of respondents have found employment after graduation. The leading concepts of the University’s activity are the unity of teaching and research, and the harmonious development of all branches of knowledge represented in its curriculum. The University employs 3,750 scholars, ¼ of whom hold professorial titles. Their scientific inquiry extends over 3,350 research topics students who they concurrently teach have the opportunity of joining in their research projects. The University’s research teams have won worldwide recognition in many areas of knowledge and have joined international research programs. The University of Warsaw community includes 4,400 foreigners: students, doctoral students, employees, and grantees of, among others, the Erasmus+ program. Concerning academic exchanges, the University of Warsaw stands out not only in Poland but also internationally, is one of the leaders of the European Commission ranking issued as part of its assessment of student exchange at over 3,000 institutions of higher education in entire Europe. The University of Warsaw is most popular among students from Spain, Germany, Italy, France, and Turkey. The University is located in the capital of Poland, one of the most dynamically developing European cities. Warsaw is the center of political and economic life and has a lively social and cultural scene. It is steadily climbing the international rankings of the world’s most attractive urban areas: Top 50 of the City Brand Index, United Nations State of the World’s Cities report, best cities ranking and report by the Economist Intelligence Unit. In 2017 Warsaw took 15th place among the most sociable and friendly cities in the world (Business Insider, The 19 most sociable and friendly cities in the world, 2017). Warsaw has also – for the second time running – been named fDi’sPolish City of the Future (fDi Intelligence, Financial Times, Polish Cities of the Future 2017/18, 2017). According to QS Best Student Cities 2017, Warsaw took 52nd place among the best cities in the world. It receives a very high score in the affordability category – within the top five of the entire index – thanks to its combination of low living costs and reasonable tuition fees. The University’s historical Main Campus, located in the very heart of Warsaw, is renowned for its splendid architecture. Its imposing buildings, some going back to the 17th century, are one of the city’s main tourist attractions. The opening of the nearby University Library building, which took place at the very end of the millennium, marked a new chapter in the history of the University’s architecture. New buildings, completed in the following years, are modern, functional, and architecturally interesting. The Natural Sciences campus consists of imposing structures with state-of-the-art laboratories. The University of Warsaw recognizes as still valid its mission as a public utility institution formulated by its founders in 1816: “The University should not only maintain in the nation both learning and skills at the level they have already attained in the scholarly world, but also further develop and propagate them as well as apply their theory for the public good.” The University realizes its aim with the participation of the whole University community: its scholars, students, and staff. Since its establishment, our University’s community has written numerous glorious pages in its history. It has produced many outstanding scholars and created famous scientific schools. It actively resisted armed force, organizing clandestine classes when the University was not allowed to function openly. Our students and graduates have served Poland and the world. These proud annals are our continuing obligation. We must also remember what has been inglorious: submission to political pressure, religious and social discrimination, the expulsion of scholars and students. Let this be a living history lesson for us. The University of Warsaw belongs to the community of universities and accepts its universal aims, and its name is bound up with the capital of Poland. In response to the challenges arising from the transformation of our country, the new position of Poland in Europe and the world, and the education of a knowledge-based society, the University of Warsaw defines its mission as follows: The basis of the University’s activity is the unity of teaching and research. The University brings together scholars from a variety of disciplines. It is the place of a diversity of scientific research. Young researchers in direct contact with teachers develop their research awareness and improve their methodological skills. At the same time, the University propagates throughout society this multifaceted knowledge and these sophisticated skills. New communication technology allows this propagation to take place regionally, nationally, and worldwide. The University offers undergraduate and doctoral studies, organizes summer schools, postgraduate studies, and vocational courses, initiates interdisciplinary programs, and introduces new teaching techniques. The high level of scientific research, its connection with the education of students, and the diversity and attractiveness of our teaching will determine the position of the University in the country and the world, and so decide the University’s future. We seek to be the best Polish university and a leading university in Europe. We recognize our particular responsibility toward Central and Eastern Europe. The mission of the University within society is to guarantee access to knowledge and acquisition of skill to all who are entitled. Knowledge and education today decide a lot of people and entire nations. The University generates knowledge allowing us to know and understand the world around us. Skills acquired through study ensure high professional qualification and preparation for the proper fulfillment of public roles. The civic mission of the University is the formation of those elites who will in their activities serve the “Imperio rational” rather than the “ratione Imperii”. The University is a community of dialogue. The exchange of views, the clash of arguments, openness to new ideas and conceptions are bound up indissolubly here with respect for diversity and personal dignity. In this way, the University develops its capacity for cooperation regardless of political, ideological, or religious differences, and creates a model of public debate. The shaping of the civic attitudes of students is thereby combined with the development of their personalities. The cultural mission of the University is a synthesis of universal and local values. In the emerging conflict between globalism and regionalism, a special role is to be played by institutions that succeed in combining universal techniques of communication and knowledge of universal significance with the maintenance of respect for the historical and cultural identity of regions and states. The University where many disciplines are cultivated – from mathematical and natural sciences to social and humanistic sciences – is a place where such a symbiosis exists naturally. The University is also an institution, which assists the dialogue between the integrating societies of Western Europe and its Eastern neighbors. The mission of the University of Warsaw approved by the Senate shall bind all members of our academic community. It is a signpost for our activities and the basis for University programs. The University’s plans for development and the decisions of University authorities should be made concerning it. View full university
  2. The University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn (UWM) was founded on 1 September 1999. The establishment resulted from merging three institutions of higher education in Olsztyn, i.e. the Academy of Agriculture and Technology, the Higher School of Pedagogy, and Warmian Theological Institute. At first, in 1999, there were 12 faculties, 32 branches of study, and 24.500 students at UWM. The University also had a right to grant doctoral degrees in 13 scientific disciplines, and postdoctoral degrees in 6 branches. According to the University’s Act of Establishment, the position of the first Rector of UWM was taken by Prof. Ryszard Górecki, Ph.D. The University has been settled in Kortowo – an academic campus that used to belong to the Academy of A&T. UWM has undergone an intense transformation since its beginnings. Achieving such progress would not be possible without the funds of the European Union. The educational and scientific bases of the University have been significantly reinforced, for example by purchasing high-tech laboratory equipment. Over the years, UWM's offer was extended to new branches of study, and consequently, new faculties were established. Currently, there are 17 faculties at UWM, 11 of which have full academic rights, namely the right to grant post-doctoral degrees (in 13 disciplines). Furthermore, the doctoral degree can be granted at 16 faculties, within 24 disciplines. In the Academic Year 2014/15, 27.000 students are educated at 17 faculties, and 65 branches of study, within either full-time or part-time studies. Additionally, there are also 600 doctoral candidates and 1500 post-graduate students. View full university
  3. AGH University of Science and Technology is one of the best and most renowned modern Polish universities. For many years it has been ranked at the top of the list of institutions of higher education. AGH UST is a leading Polish university in modern technologies and belongs to a group of prestigious international educational centers. The AGH University of Science and Technology, established on 20th October 1919, until 1949 known as the Academy of Mining, founded after long-lasting endeavors which had started in 1782, the date when the Ore Commission was established, has been continuing the traditions of the Academy of Mining in Kielce (1816-1827), inaugurated by Stanisław Staszic. The university, being a technical school, serves science and industry through educating students, the developing of academic staff, as well as research and development. The university cherishes its traditions and educates students, to be honest, responsible people both at work and as members of the society, according to its motto: “Labore creates, labori et scientiae servio”. The history of the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow dates back to 1912, when a group of outstanding engineers and mining activists, led by Jan Zarański, initiated the process of applying for consent to establish a school of higher education that would educate mining engineers in Krakow. The endeavors were successful, and in 1913 the Ministry of Public Work in Vienna appointed the Organizing Committee of the Mining Academy, chaired by Professor Józef Morozewicz. By force of a Supreme Order issued by Emperor Francis Joseph on 31st May 1913, the establishment of the Mining Academy in Krakow was approved. The outbreak of World War I prevented the Academy from beginning its activity in 1914. View full university

Created in 1925 under the name Industrial Institute of Algeria, this property opened in October 1926, was to train senior technicians for large utilities and industrial and public works companies. The Industrial Institute of Algeria functioned normally until 1942. Closed at this time because of the 2nd World war, it was reopened in 1945, attached to the State Secretariat for Technical Education French, and reorganized in the direction of higher standards studies. This allowed in 1950 (Official Gazette of August 27, 1950), creation of the "Diploma Engineer of Public Works and Building", issued by the Minister of Education, (State Secretariat for Education Technical). The Institute took the name of National School of Engineers of Public Works and Building. The school is also a training of trainers pole. Post-graduation, Magister, and Doctorate evolve dynamically, in adaptation to technological development. It is the same for Specialized Post-graduation, provided for the needs of the industrial partners of the school, but that remains to grow again. This dynamic has evolved much more with the opening of the new type of research laboratory. Since 1995, the School has recorded its few training assets, Magisters 600 and 163 Doctorates. Currently, training of engineering students is ensured first in the department of the 1st cycle for two years constituting a Common Core Technology. Then, the engineering students are oriented in order of merit, in specialty departments that provide the teachings of eleven technology specialties." View full university

  6. Radboud University Nijmegen was established on 17 October 1923 under the name Catholic University Nijmegen. With their University, Dutch Catholics sought to promote the emancipation of Roman Catholics in the Netherlands, who were strongly underrepresented in public administration, the legal profession, medicine, and other sectors. The Radboud Foundation was the body behind this initiative. Radboud University is a comprehensive, international-oriented university that aspires to be one of Europe's best. Together with Radboudumc, we have created an intellectual environment that inspires and challenges our students and staff to extend the scope of academic disciplines and benefit society. Radboud University challenges its students to actively participate in the academic community and trains them to be critical and committed academics, with their views regarding scholarship and society, who will take up responsible positions in a society that is becoming increasingly internationalized. The University's academic staff come from all over the world, and a large proportion of our student population has spent at least some months studying at a university abroad. For its core activities of research and teaching, Radboud University draws its inspiration from academic curiosity and the demands placed upon the University by society. The Strategic Plan sets out the decisions made by Radboud University, based on an analysis of its strengths and weaknesses and of the changing environment in which it performs its core tasks. The Plan describes the goals that the University has set itself for the years ahead. Radboud University offers its staff and students an inspiring, pleasant, and safe work and study environment. They are role models because they are to comport themselves with respect and honesty in their daily lives. They have an essential role in taking the initiative and organizing evaluative activities. Authority is clearly defined and transparent. Integrity relates to honesty, openness, and dependability in personal and business relationships, academic education and research, and administration and management. Respectful, as in viewing others as worthy of respect and value. Students and staff take great care when using the resources provided (both by the University and external parties); this includes funds, equipment, furniture, and sports facilities. These resources are to be used solely for the purposes for which they were intended. Radboud University aspires to quality. Internationalization plays a significant role in the quality of our teaching, research, and service provision. These are the three pillars on which we are building towards a leading position in international academia. Our research will only excel if we operate in international partnerships. Under this general interest, the college offered eight main Bachelor's degrees within three departments: Business Administration, Economics, Banking, and Financial Services. The establishment of the Department of Public Relations and Community Development came alongside the university's establishment in 1999. It was set out to reflect the objective and truthful civilized image of the Al-Hussein Bin Talal University. This Department is the university's official voice, and it is responsible for supervising the organization of the cultural and public relations with various organizations within and outside the country. The Department comprises three divisions: the Division of Cultural Relations and Media, the Public Relations Division, and the Division office. Princess Aisha Bint Alhussein College of Nursing carries the name of princess Aisha. The Dept's philosophy is to implement the university policies related to the provision of human resources of academic, administrative, and technical personnel and follow-up actions and administrative procedures regarding personnel at the university and provide services related to health insurance, social security, and life insurance for them and follow their affairs for the duration of their work in the university by the laws and regulations of the university.
  8. Montanuniversität Leoben is a technical university with a unique profile. The study programs offered – with their specific focus areas – can only be pursued at Leoben. As a result, Montanuniversität graduates are amongst the most sought-after of all academics. As one of the smallest universities in Austria, Montanuniversität offers its students an outstandingly good infrastructure and the best possible attention from academic staff. Its smaller size is an advantage: intensive contact between students and lecturers means that problems can be solved quicker and more successfully. "Mass university" is a foreign concept in Leoben, and, according to current surveys, the students here are more satisfied than almost any other university in Austria. At some Austrian universities, different selection procedures have been introduced for a variety of study programs to reduce the number of first-year students embarking on their studies. Our study programs at Leoben are not affected by this issue, there is no selection process, and enrolment is simple. All students with school-leaving certificates can enroll at Montanuniversität. The study programs offered at Montanuniversität are based along the value-added chain, from raw materials and production materials to the finished product. The range of studies is complemented by multidisciplinary fields such as Industrial Energy Technology and Industrial Logistics. The first year of studies, as an introductory phase, is the same for all students. As a result, students can switch study programs seamlessly at the end of the first year without losing any time. In these first two semesters, all first-year students are brought to a uniform academic level. In the beginning, the curriculum covers the following subjects: physics, mathematics, computer applications and programming, chemistry, and mechanics. All study programs grant a Bachelor of Science degree after seven semesters. This is followed by a more in-depth Masters's program (4 semesters) and a subsequent Masters's thesis (ending with the academic title "Diplomingenieur," equivalent to a Master of Science). Afterward, students can opt for a doctoral degree (6 semesters). During their studies, all students are required to complete an internship at a company that is relevant to their fields of study. Montanuniversität is traditionally closely associated with industry and economics. With a large number of projects in cooperation with various companies, students are integrated very early into a network that will later provide them with a head start into the professional world. Thanks to the healthy application-orientated style of instruction, students are always kept abreast of the latest developments and rapidly find themselves at home in their vocations. The unique education offered at Montanuniversität also means that it occupies a unique position in the international education market. Graduates from Leoben are in higher demand than ever before – and the industry requires even more experts. The master's programs expand on the specialist knowledge learned in the bachelor's programs, giving you more in-depth expertise and ending with a master's thesis. Masters programs at Montanuniversität Leoben take four semesters (120 ECTS). You can then start a Ph.D. program (six semesters, 180 ECTS). All graduate programs give you the academic title "Diplomingenieur." The decision on the award of the academic title will be issued in both English and German. The corresponding international academic title is "Master of Science." Conditions may be set if you are admitted for a master's program while still undergoing a bachelor's program at Montanuniversität Leoben that you have not yet completed. The Registrar's Office is your point of contact for course admissions. There are lots of things to do when you are studying at Montanuniversität. Away from the university and research departments, Leoben has a lively social scene and a fantastic range of health and fitness facilities, shops, and culture. Montanuniversität Leoben enables particularly talented and committed school pupils to attend lectures. Once they finish their high-school (Matura), their completed courses at University are officially recognized. This program is an initiative by ÖZBF (Austrian Research and Support Centre for the Gifted and Talented). This program has enabled pupils to begin their degree, intensify their in-depth knowledge, and shorten their university degree. View full university
  9. Roskilde University was initially established to challenge academic traditions and experiment with new ways to create and acquire knowledge. At RUC, we cultivate a project and a problem-oriented approach to knowledge creation. We believe that the most relevant results are obtained by solving real problems in collaboration with others. We employ an interdisciplinary approach because no major problems are ever resolved based on any single academic discipline alone. We also cultivate transparency because we passionately believe that participation and knowledge-sharing are prerequisites for freedom of thought, democracy, tolerance, and development. We shall create the opportunities that no one can yet imagine. We must also help develop sustainable solutions to the significant challenges we will face in the future, both nationally and globally, in areas such as the environment, inequality, democracy, health, and cultural coexistence.

  13. Welcome to Maynooth University, a research university of international standing and a scholarly community of over 11,000 students and 800 staff. Maynooth University is a thriving research enterprise, a vibrant and exciting place to learn, and importantly, it is a university that places equal value on research and teaching. We are an engaged university with extensive research and teaching partnerships with enterprises, public bodies, civil society, and community organizations. We are conscious that our work as an academic institution is at the service of scholarship, students, and society. Maynooth University is a diverse and international community: people come from many different backgrounds and countries to work together, learning with and from each other, and bringing an intellectual and cultural vibrancy to the University and the region. Whether you are a prospective student or staff member, a current student or staff member, a graduate, parent, visitor or friend, or an academic or institutional partner, I invite you to enjoy and be part of the unique, collaborative and collegial academic experience that is Maynooth University. Maynooth University is a very distinctive university and a collegial institution firmly focused on the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and equally committed to research, teaching, and engagement. Its distinctive features and character owe much to its unique history and heritage. Maynooth University was formally established as an autonomous university as recently as 1997, yet traces its origins to the foundation of the Royal College of St. Patrick in 1795, making it, simultaneously, Ireland's youngest University and one of its oldest educational institutions founded in 1795 as a seminary for the education of priests, and by 1850 had become the largest seminary in the world. For 200 years before that, Irish Catholic priests had been educated in the Irish colleges in France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, and the Netherlands. Under the Penal Laws, it would have been illegal to educate them at home. Several factors paved the way for the establishment of Maynooth College. The French Revolution had confiscated the Irish Colleges in France. Enlightenment thinking and the fact that Britain was at war with France led the government to seek to appease Irish Catholics by relaxing the Penal Laws. Simultaneously, both the Irish bishops and the English government feared that Irish priests might be influenced by the 'contagion of sedition and infidelity' of the French Revolution. The bishops asked permission to endow 'academies or seminaries' to educate candidates for the priesthood. Their political advisers persuaded them to extend the project to include laypeople. So the Irish parliament passed an 'Act for the Better Education of Persons professing the Popish or Roman Catholic Religion,' which lead to the foundation of Maynooth College in 1795. Among the first staff at the College were several French scholars who were refugees from the Revolution. Lay students were admitted in 1800, but the lay College survived only until 1817. The Strategic Plan sets out the direction of the University and its contribution to education and research until 2017. It focuses on critical areas such as a radical enhancement of undergraduate education, developing centers of excellence for research, doubling international student mobility, and collaborating with other institutions domestically and internationally. Developing new subject combinations across the sciences, social sciences, and humanities to prepare graduates for emerging roles in the economy and society, Ensuring students are highly competent in their subject areas, but also giving students structured opportunities to broaden their education so they can appreciate different perspectives and operate in interdisciplinary teams, A strong emphasis on the critical intellectual skills of reflection, analysis, critical thinking and problem-solving. Maynooth University will consolidate its international reputation as a university known for outstanding teaching, excellent research, global outlook, effective engagement with the society it serves, and its distinctive approach to modern higher education challenges. Maynooth University will further enhance its international reputation for: The exceptional and distinctive education it offers to students The quality and impact of its research and scholarship The connection between its research and teaching The diversity of its student body and the quality of its student experience The global scope of teaching and research Effective engagement with enterprise, the community, civil society, and the state Commitment to excellence, innovation, and collegiality Its unique and collaborative contribution to the national system of higher education and the economic, social, and cultural life of the region, the nation, and the world Maynooth University has established seven strategic goals for the period 2012–2017, To offer students an outstanding university education, the best available in Ireland, an education which challenges and supports all students to achieve their full potential, and prepares students for life, work, and citizenship, and for complexity, diversity, and change. To be recognized by 2017 as playing a leading international role and being the clear national leader in several thematic areas of research that address the significant societal challenges of the 21st century. To achieve a step-change in international activities, doubling the number of international students on campus and doubling the number of domestic students spending time abroad to create a genuinely intercultural and multilingual institution. To strengthen engagement with all stakeholders through sustained partnerships with enterprises, communities, civil society, and public bodies build support for the University's mission, serve society's needs, and open new opportunities for research and learning. To maximize its unique and distinctive contribution to higher education's national system through a set of purposeful and sustained strategic partnerships at the regional and national level, and to extend its international reach through a network of global partnerships. To be an excellent place to work, known for a collegial ethos that empowers all staff to contribute fully to the University's development. To enable ambitious strategic objectives in challenging circumstances through careful planning, excellent services and infrastructure, and sound governance and management. View full university

In 2003, StratiCell in 2005 … Fully integrated into the city and region, the UNamur participates actively in their social and economic development. It promotes partnerships with the local economic partners, develops evening and weekend education programs and life-long learning … It offers consultancy services and expertise to the public and private sectors. These activities extend well beyond the region or national borders through the ongoing collaboration with international bodies. The UNamur aims to promote justice and grants particular concern to those who are socially or economically fragile. To mention but a few research projects: the DFLS (Basic Rights and Social Cohesion Research Centre), and the CRED (Centre for Research in the Economics of Development), or studies on the issue of disabilities conducted by the Department of Psychology. The University also promotes education for development through its NGO, the FUCID (University Foundation for International Development Cooperation). The UNamur has found many ways to enlarge its network of contacts and to ensure international recognition: high-quality teaching and research, coherent policies facilitating the exchange of students, researchers, and professors as well as the hosting of international students, membership in numerous international associations, participation in development projects. The University of Namur (UNamur) is pleased to welcome you to this website, which will help you to learn about the University's objectives and all aspects of life at our University, the services that it intends to provide in our society more concretely, you will discover the men and women that work there, their educational and research programs, as well as the events that mark the life of the University. Recteur UNamur University in the French-speaking community of Belgium, the UNamur's main objective is to "train students and researchers as responsible actors in society" and, since its foundation in 1831 by the Society of Jesus, it pays particular attention to the quality of the education it provides. The objective is to train men and women who, of course, are skilled in their discipline, but who also have the interdisciplinary experience, are open to questions of conscience, sensitive to the fundamental problems that challenge our contemporaries, and can fully assume their responsibilities at the heart of society, on the horizon of our vast world! The mission of every University is not only to diffuse knowledge but also to produce new knowledge, which requires providing an essential place for research. Our laboratories and research centers aim to develop quality projects by resolutely joining collaboration networks at the national and international levels. Whether this research is fundamental or more oriented, it is "meticulous in taking into account the human and social dimensions of science and technology." The knowledge developed at the University does not have the objective of remaining locked away, but it is to be used to serve society. This is how our University in Namur proactively integrates into its local and regional environment and shows itself to satisfy the many requests it receives from public and private organisms, associations, and many political, social, economic, and cultural actors. The primary objective of the University is to train students and researchers as responsible actors in society. In this respect, the UNamur, working in the spirit of Europe's academic tradition, is "an ideal meeting-ground for teachers capable of imparting their knowledge and well equipped to develop it by research and innovation and students entitled, able and willing to enrich their minds with that knowledge." Teaching and research aim to diffuse current knowledge and to produce new knowledge. The UNamur privileges high-quality teaching mobilizing fundamental concepts of knowledge and research, which associates its pursuit of excellence with a long-term perspective. The academic approach to teaching and research requires a permanent self-critical attitude about its objectives and methods in each discipline. The UNamur provides a platform for this critical search for knowledge and insists that science and technology's human and social dimensions be taken into account. It seeks to overcome the division and fragmentation of knowledge by stimulating epistemological debate and interdisciplinary dialogue. The universality of teaching and research and the globalization of society's problems require universities to be open to each other. The UNamur has helped establish and collaborate in various international networks, particularly in association with Jesuit universities. Through its teaching and research and within the limits of its own identity and independence, the University questions society and answers society's needs. Thus, the UNamur aims to be an agent of change in its region and contribute to its cultural, social, political, and economic development, in partnership with other local actors. Within the University and beyond its walls, it encourages the analysis of society's significant problems, particularly the inequality of opportunities between individuals and between peoples. Since we are faced with the South'sSouth's huge needs in health, energy, environmental management, logistics, infrastructure, and academic cooperation, be a development factor? Academic cooperation helps develop teaching and research, but it can also contribute to training other people through these universities and other higher education institutions that we help to function better. Our help comes from training teachers and researchers and improving these institutions' running (student cards, computer networks, libraries, governance, communication, etc.). Those that have been trained then, undeniably, become powerful actors in development. It is on them that the other "big" cooperations will be based. Investment in human resources is indeed one of the most enduring factors. Therefore, academic cooperation is a development factor in itself, and our long-term vision can be explained with five words: "be better in the South." For a promising young scientist, opportunities should be equal in both the north and the south to prevent brain drain and facilitate these scientists'scientists' integration into the international scientific community. 17. The University of the Aegean (Aegean) was founded in 1984, aiming to introduce new higher education approaches in Greece and worldwide and promote regional development. Situated in 6 picturesque islands in the Aegean Archipelago, the Aegean offers a unique natural, cultural and human environment for modern studies in the ancient cradle of knowledge. From its earliest days, the Aegean challenged the prevailing limitations of the academic endeavor in Greece, both in terms of educational approach and organizational structure. In less than thirty years, the Aegean has evolved into an international research-oriented University offering 18 undergraduate (BA or BSc) and 40 postgraduate (MA or MSc) programs in modern interdisciplinary thematic areas such as environment, communication systems, cultural informatics, product design, food and nutritional sciences, education design and Mediterranean studies. Besides, the Aegean has established joined international postgraduate programs (i.e., in Biodiversity, Environmental Policy and Management, European Integration) and joined Ph.D. degree programs in a wide range of thematic areas. The early and full incorporation of Information and Communication Technologies in all aspects of academic and administrative operations and the critical research outputs in specific fields of excellence and innovation have transformed this unique network of "academic ports of studies and research" into a dynamic and competitive institution at national and international level and a vital social and economic stakeholder in the region. The Aegean has created a strong international academic and research profile, having been an active member of the European Universities Association (EUA), a founding partner of the Cremo network, member of the EMUNI Senate, a partner in many academic and research networks, and participant in more than 210 bilateral and LLP Erasmus academic agreements. The University Units (Schools and Departments) are located on six different islands in the Aegean Archipelago (Lesvos, Lemnos, Chios, Samos, Syros, Rhodes ), thus making the University of the Aegean a pioneering network university. The beautiful Aegean islands provide a unique natural, cultural, and human environment in which high-quality research and education can thrive. After the Peace Treaty of Moudros had been signed (17/30 October 1918), Greece was assigned by the allies to control the Smyrna area in order to maintain stability and peace in the wider area. In the socio-political context, Professor Constantine Caratheodory - being a Professor at the University of Berlin - proposed establishing a new University. While Greece was negotiating the normalization of its authority over the "Smyrna zone", the internationally known mathematician turned in a "plan for the creation of a new University in Greece," named "Ionian University" on 20 October 1919. While Greece was extending its borders, Hellenism stood as a mediator between the Slavic and Turkish-Arabic world and the Western world. Caratheodory argued that Athens, being the only educational center in the area, could not deal adequately with the growing needs of the eastern part of the country. He proposed three possible administration centers for the new University: Smyrna, Thessaloniki, and Chios. The Government decided upon establishing the Ionian University, based in Smyrna, Asia Minor (in today's city of Ismir, Turkey) on 1 December 1920. Constantine Caratheodory undertook the task of coordinating the initial efforts. The first plans included establishing schools that would promote the area's development as a critical spot for the overseas Hellenism. Simultaneously, when it was almost ready to operate, the University was considered just as good as other well-known European Universities. However, the Ionian University never opened its doors to students due to the Asia Minor Disaster in 1922. The University of the Aegean is the continuity of Constantine Caratheodory's initial vision. Re-established in 1984, it is one of the newest Universities in Greece. Today, 21 years later, the University has 17 departments and has become one of the largest Universities in the country. The University's central administration is located in Mytilene (the capital of the island of Lesvos). Simultaneously, various departments have been established in Chios, Karlovassi (on the island of Samos), Rhodes, Syros, and Mytilene. Because the University is set up on different islands, it constitutes a University-network covering all the Aegean Sea prefectures. One of the principal features of the Departments of the University of the Aegean is that they develop new scientific domains, usually interdisciplinary, which adhere both to the needs of the contemporary Greek society and global community as well as to students' requirements and expectations for high-quality studies combined with excellent career prospects. The University of the Aegean has been developing slowly but steadily and indeed, according to the Strategic Plans and the Five-Year Development Plans. In these plans, the experiences gained from academic departments' operation on border islands and the communication within a University-Network are incorporated. View full university

  20. Sinai University was established refereeing to the presidential decree number 363 for the year 2005 in accordance to provisions of law number 101 the year 1992 regarding the private Universities, which was replaced by law number 12 the year 2009 regarding the private and civil Universities and its executive regulations issued by the presidential decree number 302 for the year 2010. The significance of establishing a university, including research centers, especially in the North of Sinai, is not only due to the lack of such universities in this area but also to the particular importance of having a world-class education to support the economic development of the region and to tie the Egyptian economy to the changes and transformation of the international economic system in the 21st century. Specialized high institutes are also needed; hence many countries tended to set up more universities, academies, institutes, and cities. The idea is to increase the flexibility in different economic sectors by securing a base of specialists who constitute the real starting point for economic growth. This fact does not negate the risk of establishing this University in Sinai, which represents a real challenge for national participation in this region's development. The University aspires to be one of the pioneering Universities from local, regional, and international perspectives, introducing educational and research specific services for the local and regional community. We intend to provide our students with the best education practical experience from beginning to end, with smart, sophisticated equipment to deliver glowing, well-educated graduates. Sinai University has two campuses; our main campus is in El Kantara East town in Ismalia Govern ate the other is in Al-Arish inside Sama Village and the beautiful, bizarre sea view, the capital of North Sinai. Hence our students will have time for learning and education and will lead a life surrounded by a charming nature. They will be self-independent in formulating their personality. They will actively participate in all academic and recreational facilities, including faculty academic buildings, students' hostels, central library, gymnasium, coffee shops, swimming pools, and horseback riding. Being involved in extracurricular activities can be a valuable addition to your academic achievements. SU has many student clubs and committees, making your university experience balanced, exciting, and rewarding. There are no limits to our ambitions, and our goal is to make SU an open invitation to peace and a center for academic excellence hence leading a massive developmental movement to Sinai and effectively achieving our National Project's goal to relocate three million Egyptians into a whole new dawn of civilization in Sinai by the year 2017. Sinai University shall fulfill its role in achieving balance to the other side of the equation. The human factor- building the type of graduate that opens up to the latest scientific trends yet maintains their roots and traditions. Sinai's treasures of raw material and vast fertile land- combined with its geographical ingenuity as a global trading center in the Middle East's heart and overlooking the Mediterranean and the Suez Canal lure numerous scientists to attempt to create a tremendous industrial and agricultural revolution. Sinai has witnessed, since the dawn of history, only the wheels of wars and the weapons of destruction is in dire need of a development engine to contribute to reformulating and restructuring life upon this virgin land. With its own distinguished and specialized nature, Sinai University has emerged that made it different in its perception and profile from the traditional academic concepts and policies. Universities have a critical and essential role in national history. California State knew the development path only through a university. Alborg University was the seed for an evolution that enabled such a small spot in the far south of Denmark to be one of those big industrial cities among developed countries. Our primary goal is to provide a high-caliber technical workforce for the future. Our programs offer a balance of practical skills, solid theory, and computer technology, which will allow you to obtain new knowledge and skills when pursuing your career. It is an essential goal of our programs to help you become independent learners. By the time you take your graduation project in the fifth year, you will be expected to manage your time and use all the knowledge you acquired in previous years. In addition to our departments, we have several social and sport extracurricular activities. 23. The international is a priority in the strategy of development of the University of Picardie Jules Verne. Its presence on the international scene is manifested by expanding its partner universities' network, its participation in effective exchange programs, and its accession to the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie and the Agency National Campus France. In the early '60s, Amiens grouped four pre-university level establishments: a national school of medicine and pharmacy, a law school, a science college, and an art school. However, these structures did not supply a complete cycle of studies, forcing Amiens to continue their studies elsewhere. Students coming under an exchange agreement attend the same classes and courses and are subject to the same assessments as local students. Grades obtained while studying abroad are recorded, and validation by their university is guaranteed. This course is entirely free of charge, takes place throughout the academic year, and refreshes and develops French language skills. Courses are available at different levels (elementary, intermediate, advanced, and highly advanced) with 5 hours per week and per level: 2½ hours on French culture and civilization, 2½ hours on the French language, making a total of 50 hours per semester. These courses can give up to 8 ECTS credits per semester for validation by the student's home university. An FLE course registration form is sent to students and must be completed and returned to the Department of International Affairs before arrival. The FLE Centre regularly offers courses in French for University Objectives (FUO), which feature intensive French language courses before the start of the academic year (at the beginning of September). These courses allow for a comprehensive review of language basics and help prepare students for university life in France. Conferences about France and cultural activities are also included in the program. Furthermore, this course provides an ideal first opportunity for international students to meet up. A great way to start the year. View full university

    University of Namur

The University campus is situated in the center of Namur, the capital of Wallonia (the French-speaking region in Belgium), close to other major centers like Brussels. Students have direct access to the railway station, housing, shops, cinemas, theatres, sports facilities … The UNamur campus has a lot to offer: a sports hall, a radio station, a choir, community housing for students sharing the same cultural or social project (« knots à projets »)… Various activities are organized on the campus, such as sports competitions, tournaments, challenges, introduction to music or plastic arts, language courses, theatre shows, or concerts. Life is lived to the full in Namur. With 40 different programs at the Bachelor, Master and Doctorate levels, the UNamur welcomes over 4,900 students in six Faculties: Arts, Law, Economics, Social Sciences and Business Administration, Computer Science, Medicine and Sciences. Its reputation is based on the quality of its education, its professors' availability, and sufficient resources to ensure maximum chances of success for each student: introduction to study techniques, preparation courses, small group work, course materials available on-line, personalized assessments… The UNamur has redesigned its study programs in line with the European harmonization of Higher Education ("Bologna Process"). The UNamur has widened its studies' choice to reconcile both specificity and openness to social and human issues. Quality of study in Namur is the first-class advantage for those who wish to discover a university on a human scale at the crossroads of Europe, as part of a study exchange program or to prepare to enter professional life. Research in Namur aims at balancing ethics and excellence. It is developed in 105 research units, active in arts, law, social and exact sciences, medicine, and computer science. The UNamur excels in sectors such as nanotechnology, biotechnology, physics and chemistry of surfaces, engineering of information systems and databases, legal questions raised by information and communication technologies, regional economics, the economics of development and social representation of disabilities …univ3 The research results within the UNamur have led to the deposit of numerous patents, technology transfers to industry, and the creation of spin-off companies: EAT in 1999, Nanocyl in 2002, BioXpr, and ReveR.
