    University of Namur

The University campus is situated in the center of Namur, the capital of Wallonia (the French-speaking region in Belgium), close to other major centers like Brussels. Students have direct access to the railway station, housing, shops, cinemas, theatres, sports facilities … The UNamur campus has a lot to offer: a sports hall, a radio station, a choir, community housing for students sharing the same cultural or social project (« knots à projets »)… Various activities are organized on the campus, such as sports competitions, tournaments, challenges, introduction to music or plastic arts, language courses, theatre shows, or concerts. Life is lived to the full in Namur. With 40 different programs at the Bachelor, Master and Doctorate levels, the UNamur welcomes over 4,900 students in six Faculties: Arts, Law, Economics, Social Sciences and Business Administration, Computer Science, Medicine and Sciences. Its reputation is based on the quality of its education, its professors' availability, and sufficient resources to ensure maximum chances of success for each student: introduction to study techniques, preparation courses, small group work, course materials available on-line, personalized assessments… The UNamur has redesigned its study programs in line with the European harmonization of Higher Education ("Bologna Process"). The UNamur has widened its studies' choice to reconcile both specificity and openness to social and human issues. Quality of study in Namur is the first-class advantage for those who wish to discover a university on a human scale at the crossroads of Europe, as part of a study exchange program or to prepare to enter professional life. Research in Namur aims at balancing ethics and excellence. It is developed in 105 research units, active in arts, law, social and exact sciences, medicine, and computer science. The UNamur excels in sectors such as nanotechnology, biotechnology, physics and chemistry of surfaces, engineering of information systems and databases, legal questions raised by information and communication technologies, regional economics, the economics of development and social representation of disabilities …univ3 The research results within the UNamur have led to the deposit of numerous patents, technology transfers to industry, and the creation of spin-off companies: EAT in 1999, Nanocyl in 2002, BioXpr, and ReveR. In 2003, StratiCell in 2005 … Fully integrated into the city and region, the UNamur participates actively in their social and economic development. It promotes partnerships with the local economic partners, develops evening and weekend education programs and life-long learning … It offers consultancy services and expertise to the public and private sectors. These activities extend well beyond the region or national borders through the ongoing collaboration with international bodies. The UNamur aims to promote justice and grants particular concern to those who are socially or economically fragile. To mention but a few research projects: the DFLS (Basic Rights and Social Cohesion Research Centre), and the CRED (Centre for Research in the Economics of Development), or studies on the issue of disabilities conducted by the Department of Psychology. The University also promotes education for development through its NGO, the FUCID (University Foundation for International Development Cooperation). The UNamur has found many ways to enlarge its network of contacts and to ensure international recognition: high-quality teaching and research, coherent policies facilitating the exchange of students, researchers, and professors as well as the hosting of international students, membership in numerous international associations, participation in development projects. The University of Namur (UNamur) is pleased to welcome you to this website, which will help you to learn about the University's objectives and all aspects of life at our University, the services that it intends to provide in our society more concretely, you will discover the men and women that work there, their educational and research programs, as well as the events that mark the life of the University. Recteur UNamur University in the French-speaking community of Belgium, the UNamur's main objective is to "train students and researchers as responsible actors in society" and, since its foundation in 1831 by the Society of Jesus, it pays particular attention to the quality of the education it provides. The objective is to train men and women who, of course, are skilled in their discipline, but who also have the interdisciplinary experience, are open to questions of conscience, sensitive to the fundamental problems that challenge our contemporaries, and can fully assume their responsibilities at the heart of society, on the horizon of our vast world! The mission of every University is not only to diffuse knowledge but also to produce new knowledge, which requires providing an essential place for research. Our laboratories and research centers aim to develop quality projects by resolutely joining collaboration networks at the national and international levels. Whether this research is fundamental or more oriented, it is "meticulous in taking into account the human and social dimensions of science and technology." The knowledge developed at the University does not have the objective of remaining locked away, but it is to be used to serve society. This is how our University in Namur proactively integrates into its local and regional environment and shows itself to satisfy the many requests it receives from public and private organisms, associations, and many political, social, economic, and cultural actors. The primary objective of the University is to train students and researchers as responsible actors in society. In this respect, the UNamur, working in the spirit of Europe's academic tradition, is "an ideal meeting-ground for teachers capable of imparting their knowledge and well equipped to develop it by research and innovation and students entitled, able and willing to enrich their minds with that knowledge." Teaching and research aim to diffuse current knowledge and to produce new knowledge. The UNamur privileges high-quality teaching mobilizing fundamental concepts of knowledge and research, which associates its pursuit of excellence with a long-term perspective. The academic approach to teaching and research requires a permanent self-critical attitude about its objectives and methods in each discipline. The UNamur provides a platform for this critical search for knowledge and insists that science and technology's human and social dimensions be taken into account. It seeks to overcome the division and fragmentation of knowledge by stimulating epistemological debate and interdisciplinary dialogue. The universality of teaching and research and the globalization of society's problems require universities to be open to each other. The UNamur has helped establish and collaborate in various international networks, particularly in association with Jesuit universities. Through its teaching and research and within the limits of its own identity and independence, the University questions society and answers society's needs. Thus, the UNamur aims to be an agent of change in its region and contribute to its cultural, social, political, and economic development, in partnership with other local actors. Within the University and beyond its walls, it encourages the analysis of society's significant problems, particularly the inequality of opportunities between individuals and between peoples.

Universities of applied sciences have a particular social responsibility for gender mainstreaming and diversity management, as they play an essential role in the production and distribution of knowledge. FH Wien der WKW, one of Austria's leading universities of applied sciences for management and communication, takes this responsibility seriously and is prepared to face these challenges. Women and men are culturally attributed to specific behaviors, characteristics, and associations– social stereotypes of gender. Gender mainstreaming means consciously recognizing and taking into account social inequalities between women and men in all areas and at all planning and decision-making stages. Diversity management means the targeted awareness and the conscious appreciation of people and their differences as diversity or potential and not as a deficit. This approach aims to perceive and use diversity as an essential resource in organizations as well as dismantle common stereotypes and prejudices that often lead to discrimination. People are not assigned to specific groups, but should be recognized in their diverse facets or dimensions. Our first-degree program in Tourism Management was launched in 1994. Since then, the range of degree programs offered has increased year by year. Today FHWien der WKW offers a total of 17 Bachelor's and Master's degree programs and is one of the leading universities of applied sciences for management and communication in Austria. FH Wien der WKW has been on the market for more than 20 years and is one of Austria's leading universities of applied sciences for management and communication. Close contact with schools, students, and career advisors is significant to us. If you live in Vienna or the surrounding area, we would be pleased to visit your school and present our range of degree programs. Alternatively, school students are very welcome to visit FHWien der WKW. The library is the information center at FH Wien der WKW. The provision of literature, the passing on of knowledge, and information support students, researchers, and teaching staff. The title of Mag. (FH) was awarded to students who completed a degree program at a university of applied sciences until 2007. In the 2007/08 academic year, as part of the Bologna Process, all our academic degrees were converted to the internationally recognized Bachelor's and Master's degree system. Students who complete a Master's degree at FH Wien der WKW are entitled to apply for a doctorate or Ph.D. degree program. 12. The University of Innsbruck has a long history dating back as far as 1669, the year it was founded. The University of Innsbruck is the leading University for the Tyrol, South Tyrol, Vorarlberg and the Principality of Liechtenstein. It aims at promoting and facilitating a lively exchange between science and the public. Sustainable academic and social values are the foundation for achieving its goal of having an impact on society. Within the framework of several activities, the University substantiates the assignment it takes on for the society of the region by bringing research, teaching, and administrative functions closer to the general public. Founded in 1669, the Leopold-Franzens University Innsbruck is the largest University in the western part of Austria. Located at a traditional north-south crossroads connecting Europe, we are oriented internationally while positioned locally. Learning from the long and sometimes problematic history of the University, we build bridges into the future. Our strength is managing seemingly conflicting topics in a productive manner: asking globally oriented but regionally motivated research questions self-confidently breaking with well-established knowledge while consciously respecting traditions and capitalizing on academic freedom while treating it responsibly. In this environment of balanced diversity, everyone at the University acts as a member of society as well as a link to society. This philosophy is reflected in our current main research areas: Alpine Space – Man and Environment, Cultural Encounters – Cultural Conflicts, Molecular Biosciences, Physics, and Scientific Computing. Our research is available to the public to initiate, foster, and advance informed discussions and sometimes vigorous debates inside and outside of the academic world. The University of Innsbruck, as a vital social force, stands for high-quality, independent research and education. All members of the University, students, and staff alike, actively take responsibility to sustainably contribute to developments at the University and in society. As a University, we create an environment where free, creative, and daring thinking can prosper and offer diverse opportunities through comprehensive education. Our leading principles to promote these values are participation, cooperation, trust, and transparency as the democratic tradition demands. Based upon the academic ideal of a comprehensive university offering all disciplines, the depth of academic fields at the University of Innsbruck drives research and teaching while serving society. Research-driven teaching leads our students to outstanding achievements in their daily life and professional careers. It is also the foundation of higher education and develops future academics. Despite its regional roots, the University of Innsbruck is ready to compete internationally with other higher education institutions for the brightest minds and ideas while collaborating with other universities. As society continues to evolve rapidly, knowledge generated at the University significantly benefits everyone. It gives guidance but also promotes a culture of scrutiny. It explains connections and leads to new questions. Our educational aim is to strengthen critical faculty and judgment and improve the quality of life of individuals and society. In cooperation with cultural, political, economic, and civil society institutions, we participate responsibly in public discourse, thereby creating new perspectives for society's positive development. Also, we contribute to the self-fulfillment of everyone at the University and facilitate co-determination at all levels. We stay in contact with our alumni and strive to inspire them to the concept of lifelong learning. Academic freedom is the foundation for our actions. It also commits us to evaluate our work, research findings, and new technologies critically and ethically. In this context, it is natural that we use our resources sustainably. We cultivate open and honest communication treating everyone on an equal footing. We need to value personal achievements and support each other. By guaranteeing transparent structures and policies, the University creates a motivating and engaging environment. The University embraces diversity: people, ideas, life aspirations, opinions, and methods, which we promote by striving for (gender) equality, inclusion, and facilitating a balance between work, education, and life commitments. This diversity is a pre-requisite for insightful and inspiring higher education, academic excellence, and social recognition. In this regard, the Leopold-Franzens University Innsbruck acts as a role model and is an active advocate for an open society. The history of the University of Innsbruck starts about 100 years before its official foundation in 1669, when in 1562, a Jesuit school/college was established. Emperor Leopold, I used this school as a foundation to establish a university on 15 October 1669. He guaranteed financing by introducing a new extraordinary tax on salt extracted in Hall, the so-called "Haller Salt Surcharge." Eight years later, in 1677, the founding certificate was issued, which mentioned four faculties. In the following years, the University had to endure challenging times – it was dissolved and reopened twice. In 1826, Francis I Emperor of Austria finally founded the Faculty of Philosophy and the Faculty of Law and, after that, other faculties were established step-by-step. In 1969 teaching started at the Faculty of Civil Engineering Sciences and Architecture, and in 1976 the Faculty of Sociology and Economics was established, which used to be integrated into the Faculty of Law and Political Science. Under the University Act 2002, the University was reorganized into 15 faculties, and the Faculty of Medicine became a University in its own right – the Medical University of Innsbruck. In 2012 the Faculty of Teacher Education had been established and became the 16th faculty of the University of Innsbruck. International Higher Education Rankings regularly prove that the University of Innsbruck – despite the problematic financial preconditions of all Austrian universities – plays an outstanding role as an education and research institution in the European higher education system. The strategic direction into which the University is to go is laid down in the development plan, where the main strategies for future milestones are mapped out for several years. Thus, it is the basis for performance agreements concluded between the University and the Ministry of Science and Research on the one hand and the guideline for target agreements between the Faculties and the Rectorate on the other hand.
