  7. Since its founding on August 1st, 2000 Stanislaw Staszic University of Applied Sciences in Piła has become an important part of our cities landscape, and though this is a short period, various consequential or even revolutionary socio-political changes have taken place in our country in this time. The changes had a profound effect on social and political life, the economy developed on new market rules, and we have been learning democracy as well as self-government. Increasingly, we have been taking responsibility not only for our local society but also for the whole nation. The demands of that rapid and complex process were also knowledge, qualified and competent staff, which could more active and in larger number contribute to the progressive changes in our country that occurred in all areas of social and political life, economy, culture together with science and education. Amongst the consequences of the changes, also higher education developed rapidly, and the newly implemented Bologna system allowed the creation of two new higher education sectors in Poland: private schools and state vocational schools. The significance and influence of higher education institutions on our cities development were noticed, thus the authorities provided conditions for the creation of prestigious university branches mainly from Poznań, but also Bydgoszcz, Szczecin, or Słupsk. At the end of the 1990s local government authorities and members of parliament together with a group of community workers decided to work towards creating a locally based higher education institution in Piła. Due to their determination and support of scientists from universities in Poznań, Bydgoszcz, Szczecin, Koszalin, and Słupsk, the efforts brought effects in the form of a legal act (Dz.U. 2000 nr 61 poz. 706) issued by the Republic of Poland government on July 18th, 2000 erecting the State School of Higher Vocational Education in Piła. From the very beginning we were aware of our responsibility in achieving and maintaining high education standards, creating proper relations with authorities, city and region community, undertaking activities that would be beneficial for the Institution, and finally for the important mission of aiding the further development of the local community and city creation. Those issues have been taken into consideration in the conceptualization process of our Institution's mission and future growth. We have always emphasized the importance of applicable preparation of our graduates as well as their active participation in the process of developmental region changes. We would also like our students to cope with the challenges of the XXI century, to be competent and equal competitors with graduates of other Polish and foreign higher education institutions. Graduates are representatives of our Institution, and we are proud of them to be such a good representation. They easily find themselves in various positions in the city or region and continue their studies attending master's degree studies at prestigious universities. They run their own business, start doctoral studies and get involved in educational work in our Institution. We are glad that the students of Stanislaw Staszic University of Applied Sciences in Pila enhance our city culturally and educationally. They take part in a variety of cultural happenings, organize yearly student carnival, and numerous sports, entertainment, and science events. They want the events to be open to the public and are happy to invite children, youth from primary and secondary schools, and residents of the city. They realize the importance of good relationships with the community, authorities and bring their youthful enthusiasm to it. The city has its locally based Higher Education Institution that educates yearly more than 2000 students within 12 different fields of study. The graduates actively participate in the city and region life contributing to its better future. Stanislaw Staszic University of Applied Sciences in Piła became an important institution in the region, and together with local government authorities participates in many current undertakings thus defining developmental perspectives of Piła and whole Northern Great Poland (Wielkopolska). We live in a symbiosis taking care of the city, region, and Institution wealth. We appreciate the constant and definite help that the Institution gets from authorities and a group of friends from the different environments of the city and regional community. The Strategy of Internationalization of Stanisław Staszic University of Applied Sciences in Piła (later PWSZ in Piła) for years 2014-2020 has been established under act no. X/58/19 of PWSZ’s Senate on May 9th, 2013, in the matter of passing the strategy of internationalization at PWSZ in Piła together with: Declaration on the EU Policy at PWSZ in Piła and Declaration on Language Policy at PWSZ in Piła. In 2016 the Senate at PWSZ in Piła reassessed the existing strategy of internationalization and decided to adjust it to the actual needs of the Institution. The current strategy became effective with the Senate resolution, no. VI/37/17 dated 26 January 2017 in the matter of adopting the Internationalization Strategy at PWSZ in Piła for years 2017-2021 (attachment of the resolution). Internationalization is one of the biggest challenges that tertiary education needs to face, either in Poland or worldwide. The Ministry of Science and Higher Education defined the process as not only taking up studies by international students, but also employing an academic staff from abroad, and organizing staff mobilities within international educational and research programs. Internationalization means also gaining and exchanging knowledge and experience. Finally, it means participation in the international programs of student and staff mobility, such as Erasmus+ and Fullbright. View full university

  10. The first Poznan academic school, known as the Lubransky Academy was created in 1519. Four hundred years later, a university in Poznan, called the Piast University, was founded. Its name derived from the first Polish royal dynasty. The Pharmaceutical Department was formed in 1919 and a year later the Faculty of Medicine was founded within it. The Chair of Dentistry was created in 1929. The first Dean of the Faculty of Medicine was Professor Adam Wrzosek, a brilliant scholar and organizer of academic institutions. In the time between the two world wars, the level of instruction in medicine, pharmacy, and dentistry at Poznan University was very high. With the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939 Poznan University was closed and remained so for the duration of the war. However, its professors did not cease teaching. In 1940 the an underground University of Western Poland was formed in Warsaw. It comprised the Faculties of Medicine, Pharmacy, and Dentistry. In 1941, the Polish School of Medicine at the University of Edinburgh was founded. Its first Dean was Professor Antoni Jurasz of Poznan University, an eminent surgeon. In the final months of the war, during the last battles for the city of Poznan, preparations were being made for the reopening of the University, and teaching was resumed in April 1945. In 1950, the Medical Faculty with the division of Dentistry and the Faculty of Pharmacy were detached to form an independent school - the University of Medical Sciences in Poznan. In 1975, a new Faculty of Nursing and in 1979, the Division of Laboratory Medicine were founded. In 1984, The Polish Parliament (Sejm) conferred upon the University its name KAROL MARCINKOWSKI UNIVERSITY OF MEDICAL SCIENCES in Poznan in memory of Doctor Marcinkowski (1800-1846), a distinguished Polish physician and patriot of the first half of the 19th century who became a symbol of the highest professional and moral values in medicine. 13. The College of Health Sciences (CHS) is a national institution. It provides high-quality and comprehensive healthcare education for nurses and allied health professionals in Bahrain. The College was established in 1976, in collaboration with the American University of Beirut and The University of Illinois at Chicago under the administration of the Ministry of Health. Initially, the CHS offered AD programs in Nursing and the Allied Health professions. The College has developed both new facilities and new programs since then, continually responding to the changes in demand from the healthcare sector. Nursing and Allied Health education in Bahrain has evolved over the past four decades and led to a steady increase in Bahranization of nursing and allied health human resources. Following a royal decree in 2011, the College was merged with the University of Bahrain. The CHS is located on the Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) campus alongside the Salmaniya Hospital and the Arabian Gulf University. This location works to the advantage of the students, who spend considerable time gaining experience in various departments and clinical areas of the hospital. In addition to these training opportunities, students have access to different health centers, the Public Health Directorate, and other specialized hospitals. Since 2003 the CHS has been offering a BS degree in Nursing, and post-basic diplomas in the specialties of Midwifery, Community Nursing, Psychiatric Nursing, and Emergency Nursing. In September 2015, the Allied Health programs were upgraded to the BS degree in Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Radiography, and Public Health. The Dental Hygiene program, however, continues to offer the Associate Degree. In November 2011, the College of Health Sciences was merged with the University of Bahrain (UoB) by order of a Cabinet Resolution. The CHS has been offering B.Sc. in Nursing since 2003. In September 2015, the College opened BS programs in four Allied Health specialties: Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Diagnostic Radiography, and Public Health. Also, the College offers a BS Completion (bridging) Program in Nursing and Diploma Courses (1-year duration) in various nursing specialties, including Midwifery, Community Health, Emergency, and Psychiatric Nursing. It also offers an Associate degree in Dental Hygiene. Over the last few years, the College of Health Sciences has witnessed major achievements. These developments have touched every aspect of the college's functioning, such as the curricula, educational technologies, as well as student services. Following an external review of the Nursing Programs in 2013, the College was awarded Full Confidence for the BS Nursing Programs by the Quality Assurance Authority for Education and Training. The future looks very bright at the College of Health Sciences. We are building on our proud heritage to ensure that the College remains at the forefront of health professions education. The Nursing education in Bahrain started in 1959, and over the years, the Nursing Department at the College of Health Sciences has evolved to become a reputable training hub in the region. In 1990, it was designated as a “World Health Organization Collaborating Center (WHOCC) for Nursing Development”, the first such center in the Middle East. It was also selected as a member of the Executive Committee of the WHOCC network. Ever since its establishment, the CHS has endeavored to function as a center of excellence in nursing education. Quality improvement has always been the primary concern of the department and the driving force behind its plans and activities. The Nursing Department at the CHS currently offers a range of programs: entry into practice Bachelor of Sciences in Nursing (BSN), bridging program for registered nurses (RN-BSN), and several post-RN specialty diploma programs covering Community Health, Midwifery, Psychiatric Nursing, Cardiac Nursing, and Emergency Nursing. The increasing demand for nursing services throughout the country and the region has created practice opportunities within a variety of clinical settings. The Department has thus contributed significantly towards Bahrainization in this key sector. The mission of the Nursing Department is to graduate high-quality professional nurses who are accountable, reliable, and capable of meeting international standards in providing nursing care in a variety of settings. Our faculty and graduates follow the professional code of ethics in a collaborative practice environment, and work in an environment of mutual respect, maintaining competence, seeking to improve nursing practice, and actively pursuing personal and professional development. The Department uses innovative and student-centered teaching models to empower students to be decision-makers, problem solvers, and critical thinkers. Allied health professions have evolved remarkably and the role of professionals has expanded enormously. The overall goal of the Allied Health Programs is to develop highly qualified and knowledgeable health professionals who are competent to perform the assigned responsibilities in various health care delivery endeavors. Through its curriculum, each program in the Allied Health Division strives to give the student both basic professional education and competency-based scientific training, thus enabling him/her to meet the assigned responsibilities with confidence, proficiency, and scientific comprehension. The Integrated Sciences Department caters to the needs of all offered programs in the College of Health sciences. It contributes with imperative fundamental knowledge about different areas in the health sciences.
