About Me

  1. Freie Universität Berlin was founded in 1948 by professors and students, in response to the persecution faced by students who took a critical eye of the system at Universität Unter den Linden, at that time located in the Soviet sector of the divided city. The idea of founding a free university found widespread support in the international community, including financial support. This outpouring of aid helped pave the way for Freie Universität to become a university with an outstanding international reputation. The principles of freedom and internationality have guided the university's development ever since. Since the university's founding in December of 1948, the academic ethos of Freie Universität Berlin has always been defined by three values: truth, justice, and freedom. The years 1968, 1990, and 2007 mark turning points in the history of Freie Universität. The university was one of Germany's important sites for the student protests of the 1960s, which sparked a trend toward greater openness, equality, and democracy. Then, after German reunification in 1990, Freie Universität Berlin shifted its emphasis, increasing its research activities. The number of graduates, successful doctoral candidates, and publications also grew by a significant measure. The basis for the university's successful new approach was a series of fundamental reforms, including the introduction of modern management structures in the university's administration, reorganization of the departments, and use of funding to support specific aims. In 2007, Freie Universität Berlin was selected in the Excellence Initiative jointly sponsored by the German federal government and the federal states' governments. It was one of nine universities in Germany to receive distinction in all three funding lines, a step that has enabled the university to solidify and further expand its position as an "international network university." In 2012 during the second funding round of the Excellence Initiative, it was selected again and is now one of eleven universities of excellence in Germany. Freie Universität Berlin is a leading research institution. One of the German universities successful in all three funding lines in the federal and state Excellence Initiative, thereby receiving additional funding for its institutional future development strategy. Freie Universität can thus take its place as an international network university in the global competition among universities. Development and assessment of research projects occur within various focus areas, research networks, and platforms for interdisciplinary collaborative research. The Excellence Initiative's performance provided funding for several new graduate schools and transdisciplinary research clusters. In particular, the graduate schools play a vital role in developing internationally competitive research centers of excellence. Freie Universität Berlin is a broad-based university with 15 departments and central institutes offering over 150-degree programs across a wide range of subjects. Freie Universität Berlin was founded on December 4, 1948, by students, scholars, and scientists to support the American allied forces and politicians in Berlin. The move was sparked by the persecution faced by students who took a critical eye on the system at the former Universität Unter den Linden, located in the Soviet sector of the divided city. Students and academics wanted to be free to pursue their learning, teaching, and research activities at Freie Universität without being subject to political influence. Generous donations from the United States enabled Freie Universität to build some of its central facilities, including the Benjamin Franklin University Hospital and the Henry Ford Building. In a nod to the university's founding history, the seal of Freie Universität still features the words truth, justice, and freedom. In 2007, the university dedicated a memorial to the founding students killed by the Soviet secret service. The university also presents its Freedom Award to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to freedom. To remain relevant and to compete academically and intellectually from its isolated position in West Berlin, Freie Universität made connections with academic institutions and leading literary figures in Germany, elsewhere in Europe, and worldwide. What started of necessity soon became a success strategy: Freie Universität currently maintains roughly 105 partnerships at the university-wide level and about 330 university partnerships within the Erasmus academic exchange network. 45 institute partnerships. Freie Universität is located in the southwest of Berlin, in Dahlem's garden district, which had already become a top-ranked location for research and study in the early 20th century. Academic activity in Dahlem was supported by Friedrich Althoff, Ministerial Director at the Prussian Ministry of Culture, who proposed the founding of "a German Oxford" at that time. The first new buildings housed government academic and scientific agencies and new institutes of the former University of Berlin. Also, the Kaiser Wilhelm Society – the precursor of the Max Planck Society – maintained various institutes in Dahlem from the time it was founded in 1911. A dynamic group of scientists, including Albert Einstein, Werner Heisenberg, and Max Planck, performed pioneering research at the new site, earning multiple Nobel Prizes. In 1938, in what is now the Hahn-Meitner Building, nuclear fission occurred. Otto Hahn and Lise Meitner had spent more than two decades working together there toward that aim. Since it was first founded, Freie Universität Berlin has used former buildings of the Kaiser Wilhelm Society and brought several architecturally innovative buildings of its own to the area. Freie Universität is made up of groups of buildings all located within walking distance of one another. The campus planners designed it along the American college campus lines, a novelty in postwar Germany. The permanent exhibition "Future from the Very Beginning" (Zukunft von Anfang an) in the Henry Ford Building of Freie Universität highlights the university's rich and varied history, from its founding in 1948 right up to the present day. Photographs, early films, radio reports, and contemporary printed materials show the university's position at the center of contemporary events right from the start. The Henry Ford Building exhibition is open to the public at no charge during regular building opening hours (Garystraße 35, 14195 Berlin, 7:30 a.m.–8 p.m. Monday through Friday).

Our students view their studies as a springboard to a rewarding career, not least because Munich is one of Germany's foremost centers for technology and the media. Academic diversity thrives in an environment that encompasses social skills alongside a critical awareness of values and history. This includes the Munich legacy of the Weisse Rose, the student-based resistance group that opposed Nazism. When you come to LMU, you join a community dedicated to making the most of their talents, curiosity, and opportunities. I am both honored and humbled to be part of this community. LMU Munich has a classical academic profile ranging from the humanities and cultural sciences, law, economics, and social sciences to medicine and natural sciences. Faculty and students also have access to the Bavarian State Library, the Technische Universität München Library, other local and state LMU partner libraries, and the German university interlibrary loan network. The University's library system consists of the Main University Library and more than 130 decentralized libraries hosted by the individual faculties. Its total stock amounts to about 6.5 million volumes. The vast majority of the library system's holdings are listed in the online catalog accessible on the Internet. Whereas the holdings of the decentralized libraries are generally not available for lending, the Main Library houses lending stocks totaling 2.4 million volumes. These include the valuable old inventory of over 3,000 manuscripts and approximately 400,000 old prints up to the publication year 1900, the second-largest in Bavaria's Free State. Students and researchers at LMU Munich also have access to libraries at other universities and institutes of higher education in Munich and partner libraries and the special libraries our University maintains. Since the founding of LMU Munich, the University Archives has preserved archival material from the Board of University Representatives, Rectorate, faculties, and institutes and maintains its impressive University and faculty history library. It is open during select hours for academic research. Researchers are requested to contact the Archive in advance. Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) München is a public corporation with the right of self-governance within the law's confines. At the same time, it is a state entity divided into a central administration and 18 faculties. The University Executive Board is composed of six members: the president and five vice presidents. The University Executive Board consults with its main advisory board, the University Council, comprised of the University's members and high-ranking and experienced representatives from the private sector, the professional world, and other academic branches. The University Governing Board consists of the Executive Board members, the deans, and the women's representative of the University. To develop competitive procedures adapted to the logic and specific performance of the different subject groups, a system of consultative committees was introduced, the functions of which are defined in LMU Munich's Basic Statutes. The faculties themselves house various academic bodies such as departments and institutes, as well as managing units. In order to strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration, members of these academic bodies can merge to form cross-disciplinary centers.

    Ain Shams University

As the third Egyptian University, Ain Shams University was founded in July 1950 under the name of "Ibrahim Pasha University." It participated with the two earlier universities, "Cairo University" (Fua'd the 1st ) and "Alexandria University" (Farouk the 1st), in fulfilling the message of universities and meeting the increasing demand of youth for higher education. When it was first established, Ain Shams University comprised several distinguished faculties and academic institutes, which were later developed into University. After the revolution of the 23 rd of July 1952, it was suggested that Egyptian universities be given names that were strongly linked with the roots and historical landmarks of the country. Thus on 21 st of February 1954, the name of the University was changed to "Heliopolis," and then changed in the same year to its present name "Ain Shams," the Arabic for "Heliopolis," or "On," which was the oldest University in history. "On" University was established about 5000 years ago, and it had a wide fame as a center of knowledge and learning, especially in astronomy, engineering, and medicine. Perhaps a perfect example of "On" teachers' knowledge and skill is Imhotep, the chief priest, minister, and architect. They, in 2700 B.C., designed the first large structure of stone known in history, Zoser's Step Pyramid in Sakkara. Westcar Papyrus also states that the founder of the Fifth Dynasty was the Rector of "On" University before ascending the throne. However, the most important achievement of "On" University was the call for worshipping a single deity, the solar disk of Aton, at the hands of Akhenaton, who was influenced by the ideas of "On" priests. The University is now located in the Zaafaran Palace area, built during the regime of Khedive Ismail. The Palace was so named because the area surrounding it was famous for saffron (in Arabic Zaafaran) plantations. The Palace was used to host the Egyptian University administration offices when it was established in 1925. It was used by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (as a guest house) for accommodating important visitors. The Palace also witnessed the signing of the 1936 Treaty between Egypt and Great Britain. Finally, in 1952, it came to be used as the administrative headquarters of Ain Shams University. Being a major scientific and cultural institution, Ain Shams University is fully aware of these challenges. It is confident that it has - with other Egyptian Universities - a problematic challenging responsibility for creating the generation. In 1973 the faculty of Al-Alsun was made the tenth member in the University. However, the history of this faculty dates back to 1835. In 1994, a decree was issued to establish two more faculties, the faculty of Pharmacy and the faculty of Dentistry; the actual study was started the following year in both faculties. In the same year, it was decided to establish the faculty of Computers and Information Sciences, and the study started the following year. The last faculty to join the University is the faculty of Specific Education, in 1998. Faculty of Nursing was established in 1980, and the Institute of Childhood Postgraduates Studies was established in 1981. The establishment of the Institute of Environmental Research and Studies was in 1982. Ain Shams University comprises seven campuses, all of which are situated in Great Cairo. The university administration, faculties of Arts, Law, and Science are all located on the main campus, El-khalifa El Mamoon Street, Abbasi. The faculties of Commerce, Al-Alsun (languages), Pharmacy, Dentistry, Computer and Information Sciences, Institute of Postgraduate Childhood and Institute of Environmental Studies and Research, and the specialized Hospital are located on the second campus on the other side of the street above. Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Nursing and the university hospitals are located on another campus at Abassia. Faculties of Engineering, Specific Education, Education, Women, and Agriculture are located on a separate campus in Abbasi, Heliopolis, and Shoubra El-Kheema. Our mission is to Integrate a culture of total quality and continuous improvement in the educational process and research. Enrich the theoretical knowledge and applied the following ethical standards, social and cultural life of society. Spreading the culture and ethics of scientific research. Strengthen cooperation between the University and other universities, scientific research centers locally, regionally, and globally. Development of educational programs in light of the standards of local, regional, and global levels. Strengthening continuing education and distance education. Activating the centers and units of an unusual nature to provide research and advisory services to the community.

    Yarmouk University

Yarmouk University (YU) was established in June 1976 by a Royal Decree. Yarmouk University has developed steadily into one of the largest and most prestigious state-supported educational institutions in Jordan. We currently have 27850 students, 936 faculty members, and 1740 administrative and technical staff spread over 13 faculties that offer 56 bachelor degree programs, 63 master degree programs, and 19 Ph.D. programs in various specializations. We also have 11 centers for research and career development. The University has carved a unique niche for itself in northern Jordan through the diversity of its programs, which aim to strike a fair balance between the humanities on the one hand and science and engineering specializations on the other. We hope to inspire our young students by offering various specializations combined with excellence in teaching, opportunities for community service and extra-curricular activities, and encouragement of innovation. Our aim is not merely to produce degree-holders but rather productive citizens with integrity, vision, reasoning, tolerance, and a sense of purpose. In recent years, the phenomenon of globalization, coupled with an overall economic decline, has resulted in an unprecedented scarcity of employment opportunities almost everywhere – Jordan is no exception. At Yarmouk University, we aim to combat this challenge by offering courses and training programs for both students and staff through our centers and by partnering with business, industry, NGO’s, and other local or foreign institutions. Several companies have established incubators at the university to offer students training and work experience that prepares them for the broader job market and creates a climate conducive to entrepreneurship and innovation. Research is also one of Yarmouk University’s top priorities, especially within Jordan’s social, economic, environmental, and developmental needs. Several research projects are currently underway in partnership with local and international institutions. Also, the recent establishment of technology transfer offices in public universities, including ours, has served to encourage the commercialization of research findings and inventions – a development that many researchers find appealing. Much has been accomplished over the past three and a half decades since establishing this outstanding institution, but much still needs to be done. When the University was established in 1976, the then Faculty of Arts and Science included specializations in science, arts, economics, and administrative sciences. The departments of Arabic, English, Humanities, and Social Sciences were the core of the Faculty of Arts, established in 1981.

UJ is looking to reach the highest level of excellence. However, it is also trying to apply the principles of total quality management and use the latest information technologies in its programs and strategies. The University of Jordan has achieved advanced positions in various international rankings: UJ is one of the best 600 Universities worldwide, one of the best 10 Arab universities, and it has recently achieved four stars according to QS. Also, UJ has gained many international accreditations for its programs, such as medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, engineering, rehabilitation, and other disciplines. Our mission is to provide students with fulfilling learning experiences, conduct knowledge-producing research, and build strong social ties within an environment conducive to creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship making efficient use of resources and forging fruitful partnerships. The University of Jordan is celebrating its Golden Jubilee amid ever-growing global challenges to higher education. Over the past 50 years, the University has made great strides in becoming Jordan's leading and most comprehensive University that has provided successive generations with a solid education. That has contributed fundamentally to the making of modern Jordan. Much has been accomplished, and much is currently being done. There remains, however, much more to be done and ample space for improvement. The challenges of the times and the needs of a knowledge-based society make it imperative that the University charts new strategies for meeting the challenges and gaining global recognition. Excellence in education has been and will remain a priority for the University. However, there is a need to streamline academic programs in a manner that guarantees continued excellence while simultaneously meeting the demands of the rapidly-changing domestic, regional, and global job markets. The University will continue adapting to the internationally accepted best practices, and its faculty members will be encouraged to adopt blended-learning approaches. It will also vigorously seek to prepare its students for entrepreneurial careers by spreading entrepreneurship culture through integrating entrepreneurship education into curricula campus-wide. The University will focus on developing research capacity to meet domestic, regional, and global challenges. Providing a conducive research environment that promotes world-class scholarly activities is a high priority. The University's quest for global recognition necessitates establishing and nurturing Centers of Excellence that maintain a balance of basic and applied research and promote industry-oriented applied research and commercialization of research and development. Encouraging and supporting Business Incubators on- and off-campus will be high on the University's agenda. Faculty members will be encouraged to get involved and take initiatives in this regard. The University will also focus on transforming its students, faculty, and staff into global citizens capable of engaging not only each other but also people and cultures worldwide. We will seek to enhance campus diversity and further internationalize the student and faculty bodies. We envision the University as an intellectual and cultural melting pot that reflects positively on the values, lives, and careers of those affiliated with it. Students and faculty alike will be encouraged to contribute to University policy-making rather than be on the receiving end. With the University's internationalization initiatives, the dedication and hard work of its academic and administrative staff, and its students' excellence and creativity, the University will continue to lead the society and be Jordan's laboratory for innovation cradle of science and culture. They will pursue initiatives that will propel it towards joining the world-renowned universities' league in the not-so-distant future.

View full university
  20. View full university
