The university has also organized the Polish Historical Mission at the University of Würzburg. NCU researchers can boast several spectacular successes which include, among others, the design and construction of an Optical Coherence Tomography instrument, an ultra-modern device for medical eye examinations. The University Library holds an imposing collection of nearly 3 million printed volumes, periodicals, and special collection items. NCU campus hosts the Academic Centre for Arts and Culture ‘Od Nowa’, one of the oldest students’ clubs in Poland. 6. The College of Health Sciences (CHS) is a national institution. It provides high-quality and comprehensive healthcare education for nurses and allied health professionals in Bahrain. The College was established in 1976, in collaboration with the American University of Beirut and The University of Illinois at Chicago under the administration of the Ministry of Health. Initially, the CHS offered AD programs in Nursing and the Allied Health professions. The College has developed both new facilities and new programs since then, continually responding to the changes in demand from the healthcare sector. Nursing and Allied Health education in Bahrain has evolved over the past four decades and led to a steady increase in Bahranization of nursing and allied health human resources. Following a royal decree in 2011, the College was merged with the University of Bahrain. The CHS is located on the Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) campus alongside the Salmaniya Hospital and the Arabian Gulf University. This location works to the advantage of the students, who spend considerable time gaining experience in various departments and clinical areas of the hospital. In addition to these training opportunities, students have access to different health centers, the Public Health Directorate, and other specialized hospitals. Since 2003 the CHS has been offering a BS degree in Nursing, and post-basic diplomas in the specialties of Midwifery, Community Nursing, Psychiatric Nursing, and Emergency Nursing. In September 2015, the Allied Health programs were upgraded to the BS degree in Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Radiography, and Public Health. The Dental Hygiene program, however, continues to offer the Associate Degree. In November 2011, the College of Health Sciences was merged with the University of Bahrain (UoB) by order of a Cabinet Resolution. The CHS has been offering B.Sc. in Nursing since 2003. In September 2015, the College opened BS programs in four Allied Health specialties: Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Diagnostic Radiography, and Public Health. Also, the College offers a BS Completion (bridging) Program in Nursing and Diploma Courses (1-year duration) in various nursing specialties, including Midwifery, Community Health, Emergency, and Psychiatric Nursing. It also offers an Associate degree in Dental Hygiene. Over the last few years, the College of Health Sciences has witnessed major achievements. These developments have touched every aspect of the college's functioning, such as the curricula, educational technologies, as well as student services. Following an external review of the Nursing Programs in 2013, the College was awarded Full Confidence for the BS Nursing Programs by the Quality Assurance Authority for Education and Training. The future looks very bright at the College of Health Sciences. We are building on our proud heritage to ensure that the College remains at the forefront of health professions education. The Nursing education in Bahrain started in 1959, and over the years, the Nursing Department at the College of Health Sciences has evolved to become a reputable training hub in the region. In 1990, it was designated as a “World Health Organization Collaborating Center (WHOCC) for Nursing Development”, the first such center in the Middle East. It was also selected as a member of the Executive Committee of the WHOCC network. Ever since its establishment, the CHS has endeavored to function as a center of excellence in nursing education. Quality improvement has always been the primary concern of the department and the driving force behind its plans and activities. The Nursing Department at the CHS currently offers a range of programs: entry into practice Bachelor of Sciences in Nursing (BSN), bridging program for registered nurses (RN-BSN), and several post-RN specialty diploma programs covering Community Health, Midwifery, Psychiatric Nursing, Cardiac Nursing, and Emergency Nursing. The increasing demand for nursing services throughout the country and the region has created practice opportunities within a variety of clinical settings. The Department has thus contributed significantly towards Bahrainization in this key sector. The mission of the Nursing Department is to graduate high-quality professional nurses who are accountable, reliable, and capable of meeting international standards in providing nursing care in a variety of settings. Our faculty and graduates follow the professional code of ethics in a collaborative practice environment, and work in an environment of mutual respect, maintaining competence, seeking to improve nursing practice, and actively pursuing personal and professional development. The Department uses innovative and student-centered teaching models to empower students to be decision-makers, problem solvers, and critical thinkers. Allied health professions have evolved remarkably and the role of professionals has expanded enormously. The overall goal of the Allied Health Programs is to develop highly qualified and knowledgeable health professionals who are competent to perform the assigned responsibilities in various health care delivery endeavors. Through its curriculum, each program in the Allied Health Division strives to give the student both basic professional education and competency-based scientific training, thus enabling him/her to meet the assigned responsibilities with confidence, proficiency, and scientific comprehension. The Integrated Sciences Department caters to the needs of all offered programs in the College of Health sciences. It contributes with imperative fundamental knowledge about different areas in the health sciences. Our students engage in topics from various disciplines ranging from the biomedical to the social sciences using the best academic practices. Students undertaking our offered courses master the learning outcomes through an integration of the knowledge and the applications to build the groundwork that qualifies them to progress to their chosen area of specialty. Being on par with the latest technologies, both in the specific discipline and in the dissemination of knowledge, we have adopted different e-learning strategies such as E-Books, E- Quizzes and the use of VLEs, as well as ensuring internal accountability via using different assessment and feedback processes. Moreover, our qualified and experienced faculty provide our students with unparalleled guidance throughout the different courses, facilitating learning via using both lectures and interactive methods, as well as, taking into consideration the individual differences and backgrounds of our students in devising our teaching strategies. We believe in our students’ role and engaging them in the educational process. View full university

      12. RAKMHSU is the First Comprehensive Health Science University in UAE under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah and Supreme Council Member, United Arab Emirates, who is also the Chancellor of the University. With the continued unstinted support from His Highness, RAKMHSU is marching forward as per its Vision, Mission, Goals, and Objectives. Now, RAKMHSU is wholly owned and managed by the Government of Ras Al Khaimah. Further, all the programs have been fully accredited by the Commission for Academic Accreditation under the Ministry of Higher Education & Scientific Research. RAKMHSU is known for its sincere and transparent administration, focusing on professionalism. From the humble beginning with 22 students, RAKMHSU has grown remarkably well, having 1300 plus students from 48 different Nationalities. Same way, RAKMHSU is proud of having 109 Teaching Faculty, 113 Adjunct Faculty, and 96 Non-teaching Staff hailing from 26 different countries. RAKMHSU has become a role model of synergy and cooperation among the students and faculty of different nationalities and religions, pursuing a commitment to their respective professional careers. The continued significant contribution from our committed faculty has helped RAKMHSU immensely in improving the academic standards. RAKMHSU is proud to maintain a Student-Teacher Ratio at 7:1, which is more than an ideal situation. One of the happiest moments for RAKMHSU was the First Convocation in 2010, which saw 19 Medical and 48 Nursing students getting their degrees from the hands of His Highness Sheikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi. It is also a matter of pride for RAKMHSU for being able to be the first in UAE to start two year Masters Programs in Nursing and Pharmacy. Now, in addition to the MS in Adult Health Nursing (MSN), MS in Clinical Pharmacy, we also have MS in Pediatric Nursing, MS in Community Health Nursing, MS in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing, MS in Pharmaceutical Chemistry, MS in Pharmaceutics and Pharm.D, programs after due accreditation. It is also heartening to see our Nursing and Pharmacy Graduates getting placements in different hospitals and industries immediately after graduation. It is also satisfying to note that our students have done well in some of the external qualifying examinations and have done well in both Dubai Health Care and Health Authority of Abu Dhabi (HAAD) Examinations. RAKMHSU continues to improve the teaching-learning, including clinical teaching. It is noteworthy to mention that more than 40% of our students are recipients of merit scholarships from either Sheikh Saqr foundation for Excellence or through other Government and NGO organizations. Further, most of our students who participate in various conferences both within RAKMHSU and outside receive several awards, including Sports awards. Looking at the progress made in the last nine years, RAKMHSU continued to focus on student satisfaction. It is very gratifying to see that the ratings based on the IRO feedback have seen a consistent improvement from as low as 2.50 out of 5 – to – 4.51 out of 5 in the different services like Academic Advising, Admissions, Examinations, Student Services, Finance & HR, IT facilities, Library, and other services. With the University Management System's implementation, the University's functioning has been made simple, fast, and more effective. Nothing can be more satisfying to the University when we know that our students, who are the end-users, understand the facilities available and utilize them properly. In this connection, I appreciate the efforts of the Institutional Research Office (IRO), who is working very hard to collect and analyze the data very systematically, and all other offices of the University and the four Constituent Colleges. Thanks to the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between RAKMHSU and the Ministry of Health (MOH), our students get hands-on clinical experience in both Sheikh Saqr and Obaidulla Hospitals in Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah hospital. Commissioning of the Geriatric hospital with 140 beds has added to the comprehensiveness of the clinical teaching. Further, the Clinical teaching for medical students has been strengthened by the addition of 10 Core Clinical Faculty. The Ministry of Health also Sponsors UAE Nationals for the Nursing Program, both for Undergraduate and Masters. Also, several processes of examinations have been streamlined. The Vetting Committees for both MCQs and PBLs are making earnest attempts to improve the Quality of both and their uniform implementation across all colleges. The Office is conducting examinations for more than 130 courses each semester across four constituent colleges in a very systematic way. Our students' meticulous hard work resulted in an overall pass percentage of over 95%, with more than 26% obtaining excellent or outstanding grades. Starting from the year 2010, the University has instituted a system of academic honors for students with excellent academic achievements. In addition to the celebration of UAE National Day, RAKMHSU Cultural Day and the Student Scientific Conference were some of the highlights of student activities every year. It is very gratifying to note students' high participation in both Oral and Poster Presentations at the Conference. In addition to the academic achievements, our students excel in several co-curricular and extracurricular activities, including the sports activities within and outside RAKMHSU, bringing laurels to the University. The Office of Student Affairs is to be commended to initiate all the activities and manage a high level of student involvement. RAKMHSU was quite fortunate to be the host for several dignitaries who visited RAKMHSU on several occasions. To mention a few, Dr. Lauren Arnold, Advisor to Health Minister, UAE Dr. Fathima al Rifai, Secretary, NMC, UAE Mr. Richard Mottershead, Senior Lecturer, Glyndon University Dr. Mohammed Shein, President, Zanzibar (Tanzania) Dr. Mariam Matar, Chairman, UAE Genetic Diseases Association Dr. Satish Chandra, Research Director & Head, Clinical Research, Tawam Hospital, Al-Ain Dr. Udupa, Principal, Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Manipal, India Dr. Jey Pillai, Clinical Pharmacist, St. Rose Hospital, Siena Campus, US Dr. Fadil Citaku, CEO, Academy of Leadership Sciences, Switzerland Prof. Francisco J.
