Our mission is to educate all students to achieve their potential as well-rounded, lifelong learners and empower them to become compassionate, confident, and responsible global citizens. 2. Situated in the coastal city of Alexandria, GEMS Academy Alexandria (GAA) was established in 2011 and offers a high-quality education system from Pre-play to Year 7 (British Division) and from Petite Section to CM2 (French Division). Our current enrollment is 552 / between 2.5 – 12.5 years. GAA only employs highly qualified and experienced expatriate class teachers who are responsible for delivering the core subjects as well as being responsible for pastoral care. Our classrooms are bright, spacious, and well ventilated and we like to keep our class sizes small so that each child has better access to learning. At GAA we have a 2-adult per class policy at all times in each of our classes, we always have a teacher and a teaching assistant available to ensure that the academic and social needs of your child are catered for. At GAA we firmly believe that for children to learn effectively they need to be encouraged to participate in both inquiry and project-based learning. We have an open library, access to both ICT and science laboratories and as part of our physical education curriculum, we have two gymnasiums as well as a sports area where the children have access to a variety of sporting activities. To display our children’s talents we have a music room and a two-tier auditorium to present their performances, exhibitions, competitions, and dramatic performances. We actively encourage parent-teacher communication to develop and maintain an effective home-school partnership. We have regular communication throughout the academic year with parents and we also have parent-teacher conferences. Our dedicated team at GEMS Academy Alexandria continually endeavor to strengthen our current successes by continuing to build effective relationships with parents, students, staff, and community partners alike. At GAA we provide a broad and balanced curriculum in all areas of the school which all offer differentiated learning opportunities for each student to inspire and challenge them with engaging experiences. Our education team makes every effort to promote ambition, innovation, and inclusion throughout the whole school. At GAA in the EYFS (Early year foundation stage) the children follow the EYFS curriculum of the UK. The EYFS sets standards for the learning development and care of children. It gives all professionals a set of common principles and commitments to deliver quality early education and childcare experiences to all children. At GAA the primary school follows the Cambridge primary curriculum. Cambridge primary gives schools a world-class curriculum to develop learner skills and understanding in English, Mathematics, and Science. It enables teachers to assess children’s learning as they progress. We know that, as a parent, your child’s educational success and prospects are your highest priority. Every child at GEMS will receive a world-class education, delivered by internationally qualified and highly experienced teachers. In addition, our class sizes will remain small (ranging from 11 to 25 children in each class), so you may rest assured that your child will receive the dedicated attention of a highly qualified and committed professional. A student graduating from GEMS (at the age of sixteen or seventeen) will leave with internationally recognized qualifications (such as IGCSEs and/or the International Baccalaureate Diploma) which are highly respected by every university throughout the world. A student gaining the highest grades in these qualifications will be welcomed by the very best of these institutions, including those in the both UK and the USA. At GEMS Academy we aim to educate the whole child: we wish every child to achieve his or her potential in all its richness. We are therefore committed to the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental, and physical development of pupils, offering a wide range of academic and other opportunities throughout each day. Our teachers encourage all students to take pride both in themselves and their school community, to treat everyone with kindness and respect, and to apply their growing skills as critical thinkers to their daily lives. In this way, we hope to prepare all our students for the opportunities, responsibilities, and experiences they will encounter in later life. At GEMS, every child matters. GAA requires teachers to set high expectations for every student and to provide suitably challenging activities for children of all abilities in every lesson. Lessons are carefully planned with this aim in mind, and teachers use rigorous and continuous assessment to set targets for each child which are deliberately ambitious, while carefully tailored to each individual’s academic ability and potential. 3. In European Schools, your child engages in a rigorous curriculum that is part of a dynamic learning environment. We capitalize on the strength of our caring and highly qualified staff through our ideal class sizes. Children need to be prepared with a solid foundation of the basics and strategies to investigate, learn and think about topics in depth. In European Schools, we are committed to providing the building blocks to a bright future in a warm and nurturing environment. The campus of European Schools is established to guarantee the satisfaction of our target group (parents and students) in obtaining the commonly popular Egyptian curricula in English/French with fresh, renewed approaches within a safe, pleasant and stimulating educational environment that promotes personal attention in a unique atmosphere that is both sensitive to and consistent with Egyptian culture and traditions. Such a formula, where Egyptian national curricula are offered in English and French, along with an internationally recognized French program, is the solution to parents who may wish to place their children in a school where diverse educational systems are available. The campus of European Schools, in brief, is an ultimately serious initiative to bring back to life such principles that are gradually but steadily fading away to pave the road to ensure full development of each child's potential. As doing so, The Campus acknowledges and seizes the opportunity to highlight the significance of cooperation with parents, being its partners whose commitment and impact should be beyond any doubts. We intend to form a panel of parents- elected by parents- to co-decide and determine (with Campus Administration) the nature and boundaries of all areas of interest related to the best well of our children. Periodical meetings, consultancy sessions, and online communication channels are a few examples of the methods we intend to implement in this regard, and before all, you should be sure that: Serving YOU is our mission. Every child in European Schools is expected to achieve at high levels when it comes to academics. We are committed to providing academic challenges as well as guidance and support to meet the challenge. View full school
      4. The British School, Alexandria was established in 1984 on the grounds of the British Consulate. Located in the residential district of Roushdy, the school benefits from easy access to local resources. Over the past 30 years it has expanded onto five further sites, currently educates around 433 students aged 3 to 18 from 23 different countries, and is continuing to grow. The School aims to offer the highest quality of British-style education to the local and expatriate communities. Most of our pupils remain at The British School, Alexandria for their entire school careers which gives us the time to build very strong working relationships with pupils and parents. The British School, Alexandria employs full-time teachers with British teaching qualifications, supported by qualified part-time staff and teaching assistants. Class sizes are small and the school has a lovely family atmosphere. The school prides itself in its pastoral care and every child is treated as an individual. Expectations are high and SAT results are generally above those expected for the age group and IGCSE/GCSE results are excellent. Language support is available for non-English speaking students. All students study Arabic as the host country's language. An extensive extra curricula program is offered. A "Friends of the School" group organizes regular activities, many of which raise funds both for the School and local charities. Here in Alexandria staff feel safe and secure and can go about their daily business as usual. The general populace is welcoming and genuinely interested in foreigners who choose to live and work in Alexandria. We believe we are living through a seminal moment in the history of the region and are eye witness to the ongoing development of democracy in Egypt. Through our Young Arab Voices project, which seeks to facilitate debate and discussion about the role of democracy and citizenship throughout the Middle East, we are actively involved in articulating the aspirations of a generation. Our school operates in English. All employees whenever and wherever possible use English as the language of day-to-day communication. All meetings and business are conducted in English unless it is essential to speak in Arabic. Some staff may operate day-to-day in Arabic and that is acceptable. e.g. cleaners, campus staff, some security staff. At our school, we value the Arabic language. We develop positive attitudes to Arabic culture and heritage. We expect that the majority of our students will be fluent bi-lingual in Arabic and English. Also, at our school to help our mainly non-native English speakers experience as much English as possible we speak English all the time. The Trips Calendar gives you an overview of the exciting range of planned trips throughout the academic year. It is the policy of The British School, Alexandria to encourage educational visits of all kinds as part of the experience that we offer to our students. We believe that trips are an essential part of learning, allowing students to develop a whole range of skills such as investigation and team working. Trips help to widen the students’ appreciation of the world that we live in as global citizens. Some trips will be of direct curriculum relevance and maybe a compulsory or desirable part of the preparation for examinations while others will be more generally educational in social, cultural, and recreational ways. Some trips are well-established and have taken place for several years, whilst others will be new additions to BSA. All visits off the school premises, require careful planning before permission for the trip is sought. Safety is always our number one priority. English is at the heart of learning at The British School. All subjects (apart from foreign languages) are taught through the medium of English and English is the working language of the school, with students and staff being expected to speak English at all times. We have extremely high expectations of all our students and, on leaving school, students will have attained a very good level of both the spoken and written language. At the end of Year 10, all students take IGCSE English as a Second Language and at the end of Year 11, all students take IGCSE First Language English. In addition, IGCSE English Literature is a compulsory subject. Each year a small number of students take AS and/or A2 level English Language or Literature. All of the external exams taken in English are Cambridge International Examinations. Although formal examinations are important, we also make the learning of English enjoyable. Common features of all lessons are role-played, group work, discussions, hot-seating, and debating. Students also take part in at least one drama production per year. We have well-stocked libraries in all departments and students are very much encouraged to make good use of these facilities. In addition, IT is used to support student learning. We take every opportunity to invite visiting speakers into the classroom and to take students to any relevant events being held in Alexandria or Cairo. In addition, students in the Senior School take part in the annual BSME Debating Competition held in Bahrain and this allows our students to practice their debating skills in a competitive, yet friendly, manner. We hold workshops at various points during the year both to inform parents about any developments and to advise them how best to support their children with English. View full school
