      About Me

      1. St. Kilian’s German School/Eurocampus in Dublin welcomes girls and boys of all nationalities, cultures, and religions. While we follow the Irish curriculum to Junior and Leaving Certificate we place a strong emphasis on the German Language and offer a parallel curriculum (Sek1) to those students able to pursue a course in a limited number of subjects through German. Knowledge of German is not a requirement for enrolment in our Kindergarten, Primary or Secondary School (1st or 4th year). Our modern and forward-thinking approach to teaching German allows pupils to learn the language effectively and enjoyably – from the age of four in Kindergarten through to Leaving the Certificate. As a result, our students leave St. Kilian’s with a highly proficient standard of German above and beyond the demands of the Leaving Certificate they have an excellent sense of self as young adults and can confidently take their place in universities in Ireland and abroad. We aim to prepare students for life as citizens of Europe and to set targets for them that challenge their abilities. The establishment of the Euro campus in 2001, when the Secondary School of the Lycée Français d’Irlande relocated to the St. Kilian’s Clonskeagh campus, was the first step towards providing a true European style education for Dublin. We offer a diverse, inclusive yet challenging environment, enriched with a strong sense of Irish, German and European culture. We foster independence of thought, a love of learning, personal responsibility, confidence, and integrity. We aim to enable all our students to fulfill their potential and to take their place in an ever-changing world. Our mission, as an educational community, is the pursuit of excellence from Kindergarten to Leaving Certificate. We are proud of the way our students go out into the world as articulate, confident, and self-assured graduates of St. Kilian’s. St. Kilian’s German School in south Dublin welcomes boys and girls of all nationalities, cultures, and religions. Children learn German from Kindergarten (Junior Infants) up to Leaving Certificate in a diverse and inclusive environment. Our approach to education combines the best of the Irish and German educational traditions: students are prepared for the Junior and Leaving Certificate as well as the German Sprachdiplom and Sek-1 examinations. Knowledge of German is not a requirement to enroll at St. Kilian’s. St. Kilian’s German School is a German/Irish school with European culture and spirit. It is a co-educational, inter-denominational school spanning the full educational cycle from Kindergarten to Leaving Certificate. It is named after the Irish saint, Kilian, who was known for his love of study and who traveled through Europe as a missionary. St Kilian’s school cherishes the values and traditions of Europe’s Christian civilization. We are committed to creating and nurturing a caring environment where the individual’s dignity and integrity are affirmed and valued in an atmosphere of honesty, trust, and compassion. St. Kilian’s welcomes all peoples, regardless of culture, tradition, and religious denomination, to share its community and educational experience. Our wide range of sports facilities here at St. Kilian’s German School is also available for hire on evenings and Saturdays. The facilities on offer include a gym, an outdoor grass, and a synthetic hockey pitch, as well as three tennis courts. St. Kilian’s German School also offers its classrooms for hire, as well as an open stage and seating (assembly) area and a newly built multipurpose hall on Saturdays, evenings, and during school holidays. The Lynn Hall is the newest addition to the facilities here at St. Kilian’s German School. 2. The German School of London currently has around 885 pupils from more than 30 nations. We are an international, open-minded community that embraces diversity and the respectful exchange of ideas. We strive to empower our pupils, encouraging them to be self-reliant and to assume responsibility on a local level within an international context. We consider ourselves a learning organization in which all players – pupils, parents, and staff – work hand in hand. We are all committed to a trusting and constructive mindset. The DSL is part of a long-standing tradition of excellence in the worldwide network of more than 140 German Schools Abroad. All are independent schools accredited and supported by the Federal Republic of Germany. We cater to pupils from Kindergarten through the bilingual Abitur and the IB diploma. DSL offers an appealing and challenging educational program with a specific emphasis on the German language and culture. The German School London offers an excellent and broad education leading from kindergarten to Abitur/IB. Primary School is an integral part. The Primary School takes pupils in Years 1 to 4. We talk at length with both parents and children before admission. Knowledge of German is a requirement for admission to the Primary School at the DSL. Parents must actively support the use of German. For children who have reached the age of six by 30 September (i.e. one month after the start of the school year) school attendance at the German School is compulsory. However, parents may apply for “early enrolment” if their children have reached the age of six before 31 December of the new school year. All children who have applied for “early enrolment”, including those who already attend our Pre-School, will take a so-called "Kann-Kinder-Test" (test for optional future pupils) early in the summer to ascertain whether they are ready to attend school. Only after this can parents discuss possible enrolment with the Head of the Primary School. Kindergarten is exempt from the UK Early Years Foundations Stage Curriculum. Instead, our curriculum is based on the guidelines outlined by the state of Baden-Württemberg and forms the basis of our education in Kindergarten and Pre-School. We are a bilingual Kindergarten, teaching both German and English, with German being a priority, to support our children to access the curriculum of the German Primary School. In addition to our educational and learning program, we have a duty of care for the Safeguarding and Welfare of our children, as outlined by the Early Years Foundation Stage. The setting also aims to provide advice and information to parents and carers, thereby fulfilling an important role in complementing and supporting the child within the family. The first five years at Secondary School at the DSL are Years 5 to 9 and 10 respectively. Year 5 is an orientation stage at the end of which pupils are advised which school type is recommended for them. From Year 6 pupils are streamed into the appropriate school type: Hauptschule, Realschule, or Gymnasium. Hauptschule pupils finish school at the end of Year 9 Realschule pupils finish school at the end of Year 10. The DSL complies with the guidelines of the German Federal States Committee for School Education Abroad (BLASchA) and follows the educational standards of Baden-Württemberg. Since the academic year 2008-2009, the upper years of Secondary School have been Years 10, 11, and 12. Years 11 and 12 form the qualification stage, which is concluded with the leaving examination. This qualification enables students to go on to German and British universities. Pupils from Year 8 onwards can use the LRC’s five computers, a quiet zone with 12 workspaces, relevant reference literature, and other modern learning materials as well as find information about universities. The LRC helps to organize readings and book fairs, as well as presentations on topics such as “Academic Honesty” and competitions such as “DSL young jury for the German youth literature prize”. The German School has a network of external psychologists and other specialists. Appointments are made with them directly. Some of the tests can take place in the German School. The entire treatment will be invoiced in the end. As such tests can take several hours the appointments are carefully scheduled. Our Safeguarding team, as required by the English school system, is there to make sure that our pupils grow up and learn in a stable, safe environment and get the support they need should this become necessary. To reflect on our processes and procedures at the school, we have established various forms of feedback at the DSL. This includes, for example, feedback between pupils and teachers, among colleagues, or between pupils, parents, and colleagues. Teachers give feedback to pupils in the form of so-called quarter-notes, which inform the pupils about their performance in the middle of the semester and provide them with information on how they can improve their performance. In our regular parent council meetings, we record the results of the "Round Tables" (topic-related exchanges with pupils, parents, and teachers) in German and English and make these accessible to all parents. At the beginning of each session, we present further developments on these of the previous rounds. At the end of the year, there will be a plenary exchange on the very year. This also provides us with a first outlook for the coming year. View full school

      6. The DISJ is an acknowledged German school abroad that is close to the Red Sea, in the beautiful port city of Jeddah. The Mission Statement of the German International School Jeddah (DISJ) has been in existence since 2004/2005. In 2011, the respective committees decided on new specific principles and the Mission Statement was completely edited as well as newly written. It expresses the values shared by the school's pupils, teachers, parents, and employees. It influences our way of acting and thinking and is obligatory for the entire school community. Our Mission Statement consists of the following eight guiding principles: The DISJ is an acknowledged German school abroad which maintains a high level of quality from kindergarten up to IB The DISJ is a school for families with a German language background and for those who plan a future in a culture of the German language. Working together in a democratic and confident atmosphere offers everybody a sense of belonging and solidarity within the school. This is based on a European liberal understanding. Respect and tolerance are a solid foundation for productive cooperation between teachers and students. The school takes advantage of its cultural diversity among students and their parents. At the DISJ we equally encourage and demand that students work to their highest ability. This is an open and constantly changing process. Furthermore, we support the individual development of every child and young adult. The DISJ’s main focus is on language education. The Kindergarten at the DISJ is made up of two groups, 3 to 4-year-old 'Caterpillars' and 4 to 5-year-old 'Butterflies'. All children spend playtime together. That way the young ones can learn from the older children. First, we begin with our morning circle, which we use specifically to introduce new subjects and discuss the daily routine. The subjects are inspired by the different seasons and traditional festivities in Germany. Songs and creative works are chosen fittingly to the subjects and if possible, we end the subject with a trip. To make the entrance into the German language easier for our Kindergarten children, we offer German as a foreign language (DaF) four times a week. Here the children in small groups, are playfully introduced to the German language, here the learning level is consistently increased. After the second year of Kindergarten, it is time to move to preschool, or rather the 'Wobbly Tooth' group. This year is the preparation year for the first grade. Through differentiated exercises, the children develop concentration and increase their stamina to blossom their mathematically logical imagination. Additionally, to the language-sensitive daily routine, there is also specific German language training. Generally, it is important to our teachers, especially in these early years, to offer every child the possibility to develop their personality, become independent, and explore the world around them. For that, we want to offer a space of security, in which the child can grow in a known and loving atmosphere while feeling respected and happy. In September DISJ welcomed new first graders for the 43rd time to begin their school journey in our Elementary School. Together with those who have been with us for a while, they will learn from each other about their diverse cultural backgrounds within a nurturing environment where every voice is heard. In our vibrant school community, all children are immersed in German culture and traditions. DISJ is a “Deutsche Auslandsschule” (German school abroad). Our language of instruction is German. Students who lack language proficiency are receiving DaF- lessons. (German as a foreign language) As in other German schools abroad, our Elementary School follows the curriculum of Thüringen state in all subjects. (Except Arabic Mother Tongue) During the afternoons the students can choose among a large variety of age group tailored extracurricular activities. During vacation language and culture, camps are offered in Germany. At DISJ Elementary School we believe that learning is not just about the acquisition of facts. With an eye on the future, we have a holistic approach to learning and teaching to develop critical, independent thinkers and confident leaders. Differentiation is used in our classrooms to meet each student’s individual needs. Together with our Elementary faculty, we support the children as they demonstrate responsibility, respect, friendship, kindness, and honesty. We know that these foundational years are truly a once in a –lifetime experience and it’s our privilege to partner with families through this important time. After primary school, the Orientation level in year 5 follows. The respective teachers will assess the pupils’ acquired proficiency level during this year. Accordingly, the pupils will be assigned to three acknowledged German proficiency levels (“Hauptschule”, “Realschule” or “Gymnasium”). The change from one level/type of school to another remains possible depending on the child’s performance and the decision of the class conference (= the respective teachers have to decide on this issue). At the end of the 10th grade, the final examinations for the intermediate school certificate (Realschulabschluss or Ü11) take place. In years 6 to 10, grammar-school teaching will be adjusted for pupils with “Hauptschul-level” or “Realschul-level”. French is compulsory for grammar-school pupils as a second foreign language. The pupils can acquire different degrees: Certificate of completion of compulsory basic schooling (Hauptschulabschluss) after year 9 Intermediate School Certificate after year 10 Authorization to the upper school (Gymnasiale Oberstufe) after year 10. Homework supervision in the 6th lesson will take place if necessary. Pupils with difficulties in the German language will receive special remedial education in the subject “German as a foreign language” (DaF) if possible. The pupil can also receive additional lessons in French, English, or Arabic (for example the DELF offer of the Alliance Française). The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB-DP) is taught in the upper school. It is a good replenishment of the German Curriculum which ceases after year 10 and the intermediate school certificate. The IB-DP curriculum is drawn up and provided by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO). After the successful completion of the entire two-year Diploma Programme, the pupils receive the “Gemischtsprachiges International Baccalaureate” (GIB) as a final diploma. The GIB is comparable to the German Abitur and has been an acknowledged diploma in Germany since 1986 (see KMK→Hochschulzugang). This diploma gives the students international access to universities. IIn the IB-DP six subjects will be taught which are respectively assigned to six subject groups (Group 1: Studies in language and literature, Group 2: Language acquisition Group 3: Individuals and Societies Group 4: Sciences Group 5: Mathematics Group 6: The arts). The pupils choose courses from the six subject groups taking three subjects at a higher level (HL) and three at standard level (SL). Two out of the six subjects have to be language courses (Group 1 and 2) – one will be taught on a level of a native speaker, the other is a language acquisition course. Furthermore, one subject is chosen from Group 3, Group 4, and Group 5 is mandatory. The sixth subject can be freely chosen from all subject areas and artistic subjects offered at the school. We investigate the success factors in management and business law and generate new insights, especially into our core topics of innovation, entrepreneurship, and compliance. We strengthen Heilbronn's region, providing substantial contributions to sustainable business success, especially in the Mittelstand (SMEs). Stay curious, always look for new insights, discuss your work with others, and implement your results: Whoever keeps these practices will have lasting success. This holds especially true for research into the disciplines of management and law with their continually changing contexts. Following these principles, we research to learn what enables firms to achieve long-term market dominance. We focus in particular on the impact of innovation, entrepreneurship, and compliance. Welcome to the Institute for Innovation at GGS Heilbronn. We are delighted that you share our enthusiasm for innovation. This platform offers an introduction to our activities. Innovation is the motor of our economy and society. It gives rise to progress and prosperity and generates a competitive advantage. But innovation does not occur of its own accord. It results from creativity and the systematic work of individuals or groups of people and their organizations. Our research addresses the behaviors of people who successfully bring about and manage innovation, the characteristics of organizations that provide optimal conditions for innovation, and the business landscape where these organizations operate. We share our research results with business leaders to support their innovation success and guide them as they manage, legally protect, exploit, and implement their innovations. Lifelong learning on one campus is the vision of the Campus for Lifelong Learning, the Bildungscampus of the Dieter Schwarz Foundation, where GGS is located. Right in the heart of Heilbronn, the campus' 12,000 square meters contain three educational institutions, a cafeteria, an auditorium, and a library. Thanks to fully up-to-date facilities and the campus' light and airy design, you will find the perfect balance for your academic pursuits. The GGS building on the south side of campus offers 2,500 square meters of highly modern lecture, seminar, and office space for approximately 250 students and 50 faculty and staff. The lounge area provides opportunities for rejuvenation and relaxation. Comfortable seats with views into the open galleries make for a creative work environment. Not only in the GGS building do you find the best conditions for study, personal development, and relaxation between classes: the campus has a 400-seat auditorium, a cafeteria serving 380 meals per day, and an 800-square-meter library. At GGS, we are committed to developing our students' intercultural sensibilities for leadership assignments globally. We have built a network of select foreign schools in Europe, North America, Africa, and Asia, to provide exchange opportunities for GGS students, including the chance to enroll in modules at partner schools. In return, GGS invites students from partner institutions to attend selected courses and programs in Heilbronn. GGS International also means that GGS professors conduct teaching and research at partner schools and other universities. At the same time, guest faculty from overseas institutions come to GGS to teach and do research. Above and beyond these activities, the GGS faculty remains in rigorous dialogue with the international research community. All degree programs at GGS offer rigorous, thorough, and practice-oriented education in management and law. 9. Freie Universität Berlin was founded in 1948 by professors and students, in response to the persecution faced by students who took a critical eye of the system at Universität Unter den Linden, at that time located in the Soviet sector of the divided city. The idea of founding a free university found widespread support in the international community, including financial support. This outpouring of aid helped pave the way for Freie Universität to become a university with an outstanding international reputation. The principles of freedom and internationality have guided the university's development ever since. Since the university's founding in December of 1948, the academic ethos of Freie Universität Berlin has always been defined by three values: truth, justice, and freedom. The years 1968, 1990, and 2007 mark turning points in the history of Freie Universität. The university was one of Germany's important sites for the student protests of the 1960s, which sparked a trend toward greater openness, equality, and democracy. Then, after German reunification in 1990, Freie Universität Berlin shifted its emphasis, increasing its research activities. The number of graduates, successful doctoral candidates, and publications also grew by a significant measure. The basis for the university's successful new approach was a series of fundamental reforms, including the introduction of modern management structures in the university's administration, reorganization of the departments, and use of funding to support specific aims. In 2007, Freie Universität Berlin was selected in the Excellence Initiative jointly sponsored by the German federal government and the federal states' governments. It was one of nine universities in Germany to receive distinction in all three funding lines, a step that has enabled the university to solidify and further expand its position as an "international network university." In 2012 during the second funding round of the Excellence Initiative, it was selected again and is now one of eleven universities of excellence in Germany. Freie Universität Berlin is a leading research institution. One of the German universities successful in all three funding lines in the federal and state Excellence Initiative, thereby receiving additional funding for its institutional future development strategy. Freie Universität can thus take its place as an international network university in the global competition among universities. Development and assessment of research projects occur within various focus areas, research networks, and platforms for interdisciplinary collaborative research. The Excellence Initiative's performance provided funding for several new graduate schools and transdisciplinary research clusters. In particular, the graduate schools play a vital role in developing internationally competitive research centers of excellence. Freie Universität Berlin is a broad-based university with 15 departments and central institutes offering over 150-degree programs across a wide range of subjects. Freie Universität Berlin was founded on December 4, 1948, by students, scholars, and scientists to support the American allied forces and politicians in Berlin. The move was sparked by the persecution faced by students who took a critical eye on the system at the former Universität Unter den Linden, located in the Soviet sector of the divided city. Students and academics wanted to be free to pursue their learning, teaching, and research activities at Freie Universität without being subject to political influence. Generous donations from the United States enabled Freie Universität to build some of its central facilities, including the Benjamin Franklin University Hospital and the Henry Ford Building. In a nod to the university's founding history, the seal of Freie Universität still features the words truth, justice, and freedom. In 2007, the university dedicated a memorial to the founding students killed by the Soviet secret service. The university also presents its Freedom Award to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to freedom. To remain relevant and to compete academically and intellectually from its isolated position in West Berlin, Freie Universität made connections with academic institutions and leading literary figures in Germany, elsewhere in Europe, and worldwide. What started of necessity soon became a success strategy: Freie Universität currently maintains roughly 105 partnerships at the university-wide level and about 330 university partnerships within the Erasmus academic exchange network. 45 institute partnerships. Freie Universität is located in the southwest of Berlin, in Dahlem's garden district, which had already become a top-ranked location for research and study in the early 20th century. Academic activity in Dahlem was supported by Friedrich Althoff, Ministerial Director at the Prussian Ministry of Culture, who proposed the founding of "a German Oxford" at that time. The first new buildings housed government academic and scientific agencies and new institutes of the former University of Berlin. Also, the Kaiser Wilhelm Society – the precursor of the Max Planck Society – maintained various institutes in Dahlem from the time it was founded in 1911. A dynamic group of scientists, including Albert Einstein, Werner Heisenberg, and Max Planck, performed pioneering research at the new site, earning multiple Nobel Prizes. In 1938, in what is now the Hahn-Meitner Building, nuclear fission occurred. Otto Hahn and Lise Meitner had spent more than two decades working together there toward that aim. Since it was first founded, Freie Universität Berlin has used former buildings of the Kaiser Wilhelm Society and brought several architecturally innovative buildings of its own to the area. Freie Universität is made up of groups of buildings all located within walking distance of one another. The campus planners designed it along the American college campus lines, a novelty in postwar Germany. The permanent exhibition "Future from the Very Beginning" (Zukunft von Anfang an) in the Henry Ford Building of Freie Universität highlights the university's rich and varied history, from its founding in 1948 right up to the present day. Photographs, early films, radio reports, and contemporary printed materials show the university's position at the center of contemporary events right from the start. The Henry Ford Building exhibition is open to the public at no charge during regular building opening hours (Garystraße 35, 14195 Berlin, 7:30 a.m.–8 p.m. Monday through Friday).

      17. The Lebanese German University was founded by the Lebanese German Association for the Promotion of Culture (ALAC). Back in 1981, a group of Germans residing in Lebanon founded a non-profit NGO with the help of Lebanese friends because of promoting and developing cultural and educational exchange between Europe and the Middle East – more particularly between Germany or other German-speaking countries and Lebanon, which is the heart of higher education in the region. Today the Lebanese German University is the outcome of a 35-year journey in education that started when the Association and its Chairman, Doctor Faouzi ADAIMI, set out on their extended mission: In 1974, the Association founded the Technical Institute of Paramedical Sciences (TIPS). As an institute of higher education, TIPS has graduated more than 2500 students in healthcare and is renowned for being one of the most acknowledged institutions of higher education in Lebanon. In 1986, despite the problematic warfare conditions Lebanon was going through, the German School was established for primary up to high school levels. This reputable establishment has since witnessed growing popularity given its multi-linguistic approach, which has offered all its students the advantage of mastering three languages (German, French, and English) besides their native Arabic. All students have to sit for the Lebanese Baccalaureate and the French one in addition to Sprachdiplom I and II for the mastery of the German language. Another appealing feature of the German School was the emphasis the administration lays on individual potential and the development of artistic and technical talents among all its students. The German Cultural House followed in 1988 (Kulturzentrum) and has since been active in organizing concerts, conferences, and art exhibitions to promote German culture, language, and art in Lebanon. The Ministry of Tourism recognizes the annual Kulturzentrum Festival as an International Festival. The Lebanese German University is another proof of the Lebanese German cooperation that has flourished over three decades in a most rewarding manner. The close academic links that are woven continuously with German and European counterparts, the fruitful cultural exchange that is building up, and the unrelenting endeavor to offer high-quality education are once more exemplified in this superior academic establishment. Besides providing students with quality education, LGU enables their transferability to European and worldwide academic institutions. For this purpose, it has signed many agreements with European establishments, and continuous efforts are carried out to establish further quality contacts with European universities, mainly in France and Germany. Widening our scope of academic training centers and reinforcing the acquisition of double diplomas are our priorities. The Lebanese German University is a higher education institution operating in Lebanon and promoting German methods, discipline, openness, and integrity at all levels. The mission of LGU is to uphold economic, social, cultural, and environmental progress for the Lebanese community. This mission is achieved by producing graduates competitive in the global economy, supporting a continuous search for new knowledge and solutions, and maintaining a rigorous focus on academic excellence. More specifically, LGU’s mission is to: Promote an environment that welcomes women and men of all races, religions, nationalities, beliefs, and cultures Advance an atmosphere that values intellectual curiosity, the pursuit of knowledge, and academic freedom and integrity Uphold a professional education that enables graduates to compete in a diverse world market Foster interaction among faculty and students characterized by critical thinking, ethics, and values Offer a wide variety of off-campus educational and training programs to individuals and groups as part of a life-long learning process Partner with different communities to provide educational, technical, and cultural support to boost the well being of those communities Partner with the business world and governmental agencies to improve the quality of the workplace and serve as an engine for economic and cultural development Contribute to improving the Lebanese quality of life, protecting the environment, promoting the well-being of families, and conserving the natural resource

      19. What is education about? Our answer is: It is about the whole child. It is about building a great mind, but it is also about shaping a kind heart. The fast-changing world of the 21st century will ask for the independent and critical thinker, for the culturally aware individual, and the empathetic and respectful leader. GIST’s program combines academic excellence with high-quality character education. Allow me to explore this a little further. Our Kindergarten is based on play. Children explore and discover. However, we also offer a fully bilingual environment, phonetics programs in English and German, and an innovative pre-school concept called “Eingangsstufe” (Entry Level Program). Our native-speaking experts for early childhood education create a joyful place where learning and growing up happens in a supportive way. The GIST follows a state-of-the-art school curriculum, which combines the accelerated and competency-based German curriculum and the highly respected Ontario Curriculum to a superior blend. The GIST offers an outstanding multi-lingual education in German, English, and French. Our students are confident language-users who write poems in French and participate in Canadian writing contests. Modern, state-of-the-art education has to go beyond academic excellence. We are convinced that a balanced and challenging character education program sets children up for lasting success. Results of third party inspections and standardized tests, both Canadian and German, provide strong evidence of the school’s overall quality. We proudly hold the Seal of Excellence, awarded by the Federal President of Germany. We provide high-quality internationally-relevant education based on a synthesis of content & competency-driven instruction for students who aspire to be multi-lingual global citizens. A GIST education offers a well-blended school curriculum, which links the progressive and competency-focused German curriculum with the highly respected and content-based Ontario curriculum. The result is a fascinating educational offer that is both challenging and future-orientated. Our program, “CHARAKTER,” educates the whole student and speaks to the heart, mind, and soul. A GIST education offers excellent trilingual education in German, English, and French. In today’s and tomorrow’s world, intercultural competency and proficiency in more than one language are the pathways to success. A GIST education brings modern character education to the classroom and school community. Kindergarten is a German word! It reflects the German understanding of early childhood education: “Kindergarten” is different from “School.” Our Kindergarten is open for all children between the ages of three to six. It is not necessary to speak English or German. Kindergarten places the child into complete focus. Each child’s development is promoted by an educational program that is both child-centered and play-based. Children learn all the time! An educational program must ensure that learning is a positive encounter. Kindergarten is not about worksheets and school desks. It is about experiencing, exploring, and discovering, it is about smelling and feeling, it is about being active, and it is about getting your hands dirty. Children are passionate about what they are doing; our program helps them discover and foster their strengths. Our CHARACTER Program and the close connection to our Primary School ensure that every child can make full use of their potential. The very core of a school’s educational offer lies within its curriculum. At the GIST, we work with a unique school curriculum because it makes the best use of Germany’s and Canada’s great curricular foundations. We teach the German language based on a German curriculum. This curriculum comes with tailored teaching and learning supplies. Our language support program called “support and challenge” helps all students to acquire strong German language skills. We teach English based on the Ontario Curriculum because our students deserve to excel in English. It ensures that no student falls behind their respective peers in Ontario. Students who are new to studying English benefit from our language support program delivered by our E.S.L. experts (English as a Second Language). Mathematics is taught according to German curricular standards. This means that children learn times tables, explore the world of probability, operate with data, and expand their ability to arrive at solutions with formulas and calculations. Beginning in Grade 3, we teach French based on a German curriculum. It is comparable with Ontario’s core French curriculum. However, it is competency-based and accelerated. A curriculum featuring the best of Germany and Canada – competency oriented and content enriched. Students are provided with the opportunity to develop into well-rounded students who can interact proficiently with others on a local, national, and international stage in more than one language. Students learn to think critically, debate, exercise independence, and initiative while taking responsibility for themselves and their studies through discovery, projects, and problem-solving. In turn, they enjoy academically challenging programs. Within our small classes and due to the individualized and differentiated learning atmosphere, students can excel beyond their peers. When transitioning to a Canadian school or a German school (in Germany or another German School Abroad), our students have had nothing but seamless and successful experiences.
