  14. IBA is the oldest business school outside North America. It was established in 1955 with initial technical support provided by the world-famous Wharton School of Finance, the University of Pennsylvania later, the University of Southern California set up various facilities at the Institute, and several prominent American professors were assigned to the IBA. IBA has zealously guarded the high standards and academic traditions it had inherited from Wharton and USC while adapting and adjusting them with time. "To be among the best learning institutions in Pakistan—recognized for developing potential leaders, nurturing a vibrant community of scholars and practitioners, generating innovative ideas, and promoting creative solutions that address the needs of Pakistan, the region, and the global community." For the Institute of Business Administration, 2016 marks both the end of one era and another. After completing a successful inning spanning over eight years, Dr. Ishrat handed over the baton of IBA's leadership to the next Dean and Director. To date, the IBA has been led by ten visionary individuals, and each has made his significant contribution to the development of the Institute. Their contribution to making IBA the institution that it is today can never be discounted. But history will record Dr. Ishrat Husain's outstanding performance as a pivotal moment, one that carried the institution firmly but surely into the 21st century. The IBA today sets a standard that other institutions emulate and serves as a beacon of hope and success for students across the nation. The Institute has gone through significant changes over these six decades to embrace a more comprehensive set of disciplines in its curricula. These changes have been made to respond to society's requirements, the market, and the economy. They are also an outcome of associations forged with credible institutions, both local and international, and various stakeholders' most prominent being the IBA Alumni. During the last eight years, the Institute has witnessed massive developments in all areas ranging from infrastructure, accreditations, increase in programs, faculty, and students to linkages, thus changing IBA's physical and academic landscape. Prominent among Dr. Ishrat's contributions is overseeing the inception and development of Centres of Excellence such as Centre for Excellence in Islamic Finance (CEIF), Centre for Excellence in Journalism (CEJ), Centre for Business and Economics Research (CBER), Centre for Executive Education, Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (CED) and the Ardeshir Cowasjee Centre for Writing. The establishment of Centres of Excellence fulfills a crucial need by servicing professional communities outside the institution and student, faculty, and staff. They complement the institution's mission and serve as crucial avenues through which the IBA returns to society. View full university
  15. The Imperial College of Business Studies, Lahore (ICBS), was established in 1991 by the Pakistan Benevolence & Social Management Trust. The initial development of ICBS was supported by academic collaboration with the University of Hull, UK. ICBS has established a truly enviable reputation for integrity and excellence in higher education in a short span. The College offers highly market-relevant undergraduate and graduate programs in business administration and related areas. ICBS is actively involved in research and offering short training courses for the industry. Major programs in this area include Small Business Finance Corporation (now the SME Bank), First Women Bank, and the Pakistan Television Corporation. The quality of higher education in Pakistan is naturally a significant concern to the College and its sponsors. The pursuit of quality is the reason we are of ICBS. ICBS is one of only thirteen private institutions in Pakistan selected through an independent evaluation by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to provide student scholarships granted by the Government of Japan (JICA). ICBS is only one of the few elite institutions in Pakistan approved by Citibank where the Bank’s staff can be enrolled, and Citibank reimburses the program fee. Our students have also excelled at universities abroad, and a few are even teaching abroad. All this has been made possible by the unrelenting efforts of our faculty. The College has one of the most qualified groups of faculty members. Almost all the faculty members have foreign academic credentials – and as a group, perhaps there would be few institutions in Pakistan that could match this. ICBS has Academic Advisors comprising faculty in the USA, UK, and the Middle East. It has signed MOUs/Agreements for student exchanges and faculty collaboration with several universities in the USA and UK. The faculty and staff, and facilities alone are not sufficient determinants of quality – another critical input is the quality of its student intake. ICBS has a very selective student body. Typically, only about fifty percent of all applicants are accepted for admission. A significant proportion of these students have a first-class bachelor’s degree from institutions like the Government College, Lahore, and Kinnaird College, Lahore. The students, who are admitted through a rigorous screening process, generally have outstanding schooling and academic background. View full university

  17. WBS started as a business education program (non-degree program) at the Systems Science Institute of Waseda University in 1973. Since then, it has gone through some reorganization from being a Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies to offering an MBA Track at the Graduate School of Commerce. Waseda Business School (WBS) aims to support those who aspire to a step-up in their career and plan to start a new career by studying at a business school. Our society today is undergoing rapid change. The world is globalizing, new technologies are appearing successively, and the market is changing. In order to survive in the global competitive environment, management knowledge of a global standard is essential. We need to acquire the capacity to solve problems – to identify the essence of the problem, find a solution to it, and implement the solution – and develop practical skills to tackle the problems for which our experience is not applicable. WBS is the best place to acquire management knowledge, problem-solving capability, the capacity to act, and leadership skills. As its mission statement suggests, WBS aims to create actionable knowledge, develop leaders with a global perspective, and form a learning community. Faculty at WBS include practitioners such as senior executives with a wealth of experience, consultants of the highest level, and researchers doing the cutting edge of research in various management fields. Because of our faculty profile's breadth, we create actionable knowledge that is neither armchair theory nor the simple transmission of management experience. WBS also has an International MBA program and an MSc in Finance program, entirely taught in English. These programs attract students from all over the world. Because of these English-based programs, we are in close contact with top-class business schools abroad. Exchanges at both student and faculty levels are thriving. Therefore, intercultural communication is a fact of life at WBS, and students will acquire global perspectives. Lastly, there is a fantastic learning community at WBS, where excellent students of diverse backgrounds come together. At WBS, students' participation in learning is very much encouraged. This learning community is indispensable for the creation of actionable knowledge through discussion and the development of leadership. WBS offers a wide range of programs, and it is one of the most prominent business schools in Japan in terms of the number of students and the faculty's size. Our site is the source of our strength. Because we have so many students, we can offer a wide range of courses, enabling you to find the courses that address your concerns. A learning community of considerable size made up of diverse members improves learning effects. Those students with whom you study at WBS will be to your advantage: you will work together to start a new business, you will collaborate at work, and you will share your joys and troubles. An extensive network of students and alumni comprises a valuable asset. WBS's characteristics and strengths will be useful to you in acquiring the ability to respond to the rapid changes our society is now facing. At the same time, however, the global environment that surrounds business schools is also changing. For example, western business schools are increasingly finding it difficult to secure high pay for alumni, and the opportunity costs of their two-year programs are rising. The era in which the majority of graduates found jobs in big companies in the West is over: the proportion of graduates finding jobs in newly-emerging countries with a completely different business environment and with a large proportion of venture businesses is rising. To address these changes, business schools in the world have developed a diverse range of programs in terms of student profile, the amount of learning involved, and the specialized fields offered. Their curriculum now emphasizes entrepreneurship, global perspective, intercultural communication, and ethics than ever before. Here at WBS, we are acutely aware that we also need to keep innovating ourselves by considering the challenges posed by and the evolution of business schools around the globe and by emphasizing the benefits of being based in Japan to compete with business schools abroad. 19. KBS develops leaders who can envision and materialize original business concepts. Here, scholars and students of diverse backgrounds find enjoyment in learning together, delivering world-class research, and integrating academic theory with business experience. KBS is Japan's oldest business school, founded in 1962. The business school has been referred to as "KBS" from its founding. Today, KBS encompasses the Keio University Graduate School of Business Administration, which confers MBA and Ph.D. degrees, and the Keio Business School, which provides short-term, open-enrollment executive programs. The school has been known as KBS since its founding. Today, KBS encompasses the Keio University Graduate School of Business Administration (conferring MBA and Ph.D. degrees) and the Keio Business School (providing short-term executive seminars). The acceleration of globalization, widespread adoption of information technology, demographic change, and the growth of emerging economies have fueled a rapid change in economic society globally. More than ever before, a company's growth and survival depend on smart decision-making from a management perspective. Today's business challenges include managing overseas business sites from a global perspective and collaborating with and acquiring companies and organizations in new business fields. These dynamic situations cannot be effectively managed by personnel with experience in only one area of business or trained in-house through OJT. Instead, companies face a growing need for managers equipped with systematic management knowledge and practical management skills. Hence, the role of business schools is becoming increasingly important as economic society changes. KBS programs have several distinctive advantages. One is the case method for practical management study. Cases describe actual management issues companies and organizations have faced. Students read the cases before class, and under the leadership of faculty, discuss their analyses, the critical management decisions made in the case, and the reasons behind the decisions. Traditionally, Japanese higher education has been characterized by a passive approach to knowledge acquisition in which students attend lectures. The interactive teaching style used for the case method is handy for acquiring practical management skills. It is equally essential for the class to have students with diverse experiences and backgrounds. The diversity of a group facilitates the creation and sharing of new knowledge. In this way, the case method is also useful for fostering leadership and a sense of management mission, not only for acquiring knowledge, as students grow through the daily process of explaining their ideas and debating views on cases among diverse people. In addition to being practical, the case method promotes the systemization of knowledge across business fields. For example, executing strategy requires applying knowledge across a broad range of fields, including organizational change, dealing with uncertainty, a detailed operations plan, and management environment analysis. Changing organizations and human resources will require funds, which in turn will impact a company's finances. These complex management challenges require the ability to quickly and accurately apply systemized knowledge derived from many different fields. Advanced knowledge in specialized fields is also critical. KBS boasts a dedicated faculty with advanced research experience in each of the significant fields of management. Our professors write cases based on research in their specialized fields and lead class discussions about them, ensuring that our cases are scholarly and systematic, backed by well-researched theory. This approach distinguishes KBS from other programs that teach collections of past management practices not backed by thorough academic research. The KBS curriculum asks students to focus on the study of management for a given period. Most Japanese business schools operate part-time, weekday evening programs. The case method approach requires a total commitment, from morning to evening, to prepare, discuss, reflect, and systemize the knowledge derived from the cases. Even with our EMBA program, we offer courses primarily on Saturdays to prevent overburdening students after their workday. Executive seminars are generally held through retreats for a fixed time. Another distinguishing feature of KBS is internationalization. Economic society is rapidly globalizing. This global society requires people with superior English language skills and an international sensibility who are willing to listen to other viewpoints and have the confidence to express their views in intercultural settings with different cultures and customs. KBS maintains exchange programs with leading business schools worldwide, not only in Europe and the United States, but also in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. We participate in international exchange programs, double degree programs, and collaborative projects with these schools. The international exchange program allows KBS students to study abroad and transfer credits from any of the world's top 50 business schools (September 2014). Conversely, through this program, we accept many visiting exchange students from overseas schools to promote the KBS campus's internationalization. View full university
  20. Established in 1996 following an intergovernmental agreement between France and Lebanon, ESA is a Business School dedicated to executives and managers' education in Lebanon and the Middle East and managed by the Paris Ile-de-France Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry. With its mission to form the elite of Lebanon and the region into tomorrow's leaders, ESA has become a beacon of academic excellence within Lebanon and a platform for interaction and meetings between Europe, the Middle East, and Lebanon. Paying keen attention to businesses and their needs, ESA helps them develop their visions and help them better achieve their objectives by training and coaching their executives and managers. Situated in the center of Beirut, and at the heart of the Middle East, ESA asserts its reach as an essential international school, combining the talents of high-level learners and professors who rank among the world's most preeminent specialists. These different factors, essential to the original idea's success, were regrouped under the banner of innovation and change. This was the founders' desire when establishing a prestigious Business School in Lebanon, and they had a clear mission: to train the Lebanese elite into the leaders of tomorrow. Today, it is the professors and international experts, and the students from the country or the region, who drive this arena for privileged exchanges between Lebanon and France, and between Europe and the Middle East. From these exchanges is born a mutual enrichment that is unique. Our challenge is to educate citizens, accountable leaders, and actors of change in an era of globalization. Without relinquishing their culture and preserving their values and convictions, these ESA graduates develop an original and efficient leadership style, highly valued by businesses. Many among them today have assumed essential responsibilities in their country or elsewhere in the world. Graduates now number over three thousand, representing all the communities and regions of Lebanon. They are always ready to take action for their School. Each in their way is an inspiration for Lebanon, France, or wherever they may find themselves, and as the years go by, none have forgotten their time spent on the campus of Clemenceau Street. To make a difference in the world and turn ideas into action, we must be pioneers in our field, contributors to knowledge, problem solvers, explorer of ideas, and risk-takers. Our service should be worthy, vigorous, resourceful, courteous, and reliable. In pursuing our mission, we should be a healthy, creative organization with the needed financial and inner resources to produce our best work. To demand the best of ourselves and attract, stimulate, and keep the best people, we must develop an environment that will support innovation, experimentation, and calculated risk-taking. As an organization, we should prize each member of our staff's creative participation, welcome the open exchange of ideas, and foster the practice of careful listening. We must actively encourage the personal well-being and professional development of every person who works here. Therefore, we should maximize the authority and responsibility of each person so that he can continue to make an even more outstanding contribution. Our policies should be implemented sensitively and consistently. Founded in October 1963, by men of vision whose lives have been dedicated to university administration and teaching, and in varied executive capacities in business and industry and the professions, it did not come as a surprise that they have chosen to dedicate the school exclusively to the development of aspiring young men and women who could meet the workforce requirements of our economy as a developing nation. PSBA commits to provide the students with an education that will develop analytical thinking, self-expression, moral and social responsibility, and the skill in discovering the truth. Originally launched as a review and training center for Certified Public Accountants under the name of "PHILIPPINE ACCOUNTING AND TAXATION TRAINING SERVICES, Inc." (PATTS), it became, in no time, one of the most prominent CPA review School in the country. From the beginning of its operation, the review program's products have been leading the lists of successful candidates in every CPA examination. Changing its corporate name to the Philippine School of Business Administration (PSBA) in 1966, it offered baccalaureate programs in business administration. Today, it is considered one of the leading schools of business in the country. In June 1981, PSBA opened a sister school in Quezon City under the name of the Philippine School of Business Administration Inc. – Quezon City, which, like PSBA-Manila, has emphasized the quality of academic programs and scholarship. Located on a sprawling campus, this new school has already gained acceptance of students in the short period of its life, and its enrollment has kept on growing. To help meet the country's management requirements for more advanced and sophisticated industrial and commercial life as well as for further governmental responsibilities, PSBA started to offer the MBA program in June 1979. Effective SY 1993-1994, DECS authorized the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) course, which emphasizes creative scholarship and develops professional competence through a comprehensive understanding of management functions and strategy and coping with future changes in the environment. These graduate programs are mainly conducted on-campus; however, occasional off-campus classes are arranged on representations of business corporations and government agencies, which prefer classes to be conducted for their executive and officers in their work places because of time constraint. Actual off-campus classes are now in operation at the Philippine National Bank, Philippine Tourism Authority, and Congress of the Philippines (for administrative employees) and Rizal's provincial government. Negotiations are in process with other government agencies and private establishments for similar classes. Cooperative linkages have also been with educational institutions in Asia countries where PSBA provides technical assistance in designing academic programs in business education and providing administrative advisory services and qualified Filipino professors and instructors. Under these arrangements, we have existing tie-ups with institutions of higher learning in Indonesia and Pakistan. View full university
