Austin Peay State University is located on an urban campus that, for over 180 years, has been used for educational purposes and on which the buildings of five colleges have stood. APSU is located in Clarksville, Tennessee, the state's fifth-largest and youngest city. The school is named after former Tennessee Governor Austin Peay, a Clarksville native. Austin Peay is a four-year public, masters level university offering over 56 majors and 63 different concentrations. The University began as Austin Peay Normal School when it was created as a two-year junior college and teacher-training institution by Act of the General Assembly of 1927 and named in honor of Governor Austin Peay. He was serving his third term of office when the school was established. Limited in purposes and resources initially, the school gradually grew in stature over the years to take its place among the colleges and universities under the State Board of Education's control. Harned Hall was the first new building during the Normal School era, 1931-present.In 1939, the State Board of Education authorized the school to inaugurate a curriculum leading to a Bachelor of Science degree. The degree was first conferred on the graduating class at the 1942 Spring Convocation. By Act of the Tennessee Legislature of February 4, 1943, the school's name was changed to Austin Peay State College. In 1951, the State Board authorized the College to confer the Bachelor of Arts degree and, in 1952, to offer graduate study leading to the degree of Master of Arts in Education. At the November 1966 meeting, the State Board of Education conferred university status on the College, effective September 1, 1967. In February 1967, the State Board of Education authorized the University to confer the Master of Arts and the Master of Science degrees. In 1968, associate degrees were approved. The State Board of Education relinquished its governance of higher education institutions to the Tennessee State Board of Regents in 1972.

  3. Our vision is to be the national model for a dual-mission university that integrates learning, scholarship, and community. Weber State University's rich history extends from the late nineteenth century to today.WSU was founded in Ogden, Utah, as Weber Stake Academy in 1889. "Weber" comes from the county's name where the university is located, which was named after John Henry Weber, an early American fur trapper. In 1933, the academy was made a state junior college. Following World War II, the college outgrew its downtown campus and moved to the present site on the Wasatch Mountains' foothills overlooking Ogden and the Great Salt Lake. Weber State College awarded its first baccalaureate degree in 1964. In 1991, the college became Weber State University, appropriately symbolizing its role as Utah's first comprehensive regional university that also retains a community college mission. Our students are busy people. Many have jobs, family responsibilities, a commute. However, they still find the time to take advantage of Weber's many activities and events outside the classroom. It is a great way to connect with your fellow Wildcats. Weber State University provides more than $90 million in financial aid and scholarships each year. The Financial Aid & Scholarships Office will help you learn about the different types of aid and use all available to you. The Weber State University LEAP Department (Learning English for Academic Purposes) provides intensive English language courses for students to acquire English as a second language for academic use. It is the Department's mission to prepare these students to function effectively in mainstream academic classes where English is the language of instruction. In doing so, we also seek to familiarize students with American culture and the academic atmosphere of studying at an American university. To strengthen and enhance the learning environment at Weber State University by engaging and mentoring students as researchers and scholars within and across the disciplines while maintaining the highest ethical standards. Educators, employers, and graduate and professional schools all understand the value of the undergraduate research experience. Consequently, the University's Undergraduate Research Committee and the Office of Undergraduate Research have provided these experiences to students throughout Weber State University. The program aims to allow student scholars to join a premier undergraduate research community and experience an education where discovery is central to their learning environment. The University Scholars Program is a four-year program that moves students from having limited experience and exposure in a field to the point where they engage, discover, and create on their own under the advisement of a faculty mentor. University Scholars will acquire a deep understanding of research or creative processes, master the knowledge and skills in their selected field of study, and with the guidance of a faculty mentor, have the opportunity to produce original work. As part of this program, the Scholars will be awarded a scholarship and a research assistantship, working closely with an assigned faculty member. University Scholars will be required to disseminate their work, and where appropriate, submit their work for publication. Students can obtain Undergraduate Research Grant funds for supplies, equipment, travel expenses, and a research scholarship. Travel Grant funds are also available for undergraduate and graduate students to cover expenses related to attending conferences or professional meetings. Lonald Wishom, WSUSA VP for Diversity 2011-'12 created Taboo Talks because, in his words, "I think that our country has reached a point where everyone is so eager to claim that we are in a post-oppression society that it's hard to discuss issues of oppression. It's rare to engage in dialog about race, sexuality, religion, and politics without worrying about being viewed negatively by people with differing views. This results in a lack of these discussions and a lack of understanding differences. I envisioned Taboo Talks about being a safe place to discuss differences in ideas to inform and educate WSU students on different views. Diversity and Inclusive Programs looks forward to supporting the continuation of this program with each new WSUSA VP for Diversity & Unity. We seek to establish connections and build community at Weber State, Utah, and across the globe. Community Awareness collaborates with community organizations and entities to create events that promote Diversity and Inclusivity. The programmed events' goal is to provide access to community organizations in providing a platform to discuss issues within the community, educational opportunities, and resource activities to students every month. In collaboration with Weber

  5. The fundamental values and goals we embrace nurture every student's growth and define the quality and character of an Ohio State degree. Ohio State University is the model 21st-century public, land grant, research, urban, community-engaged institution. The University is dedicated to: Creating and discovering knowledge to improve the well-being of our state, regional, national, and global communities. Educating students through a comprehensive array of distinguished academic programs. Preparing a diverse student body to be leaders and engaged citizens. Fostering a culture of engagement and service. We understand that diversity and inclusion are essential components of our excellence. Academic centers are non-degree-granting academic units of the University engaged in research instruction or clinical, outreach, or related service. An academic center is defined by its mission and scope, not its title. While they may be described as a center, institute, laboratory, or similar term, the terms center and institute shall be limited to academic centers, unless otherwise approved by the Council on Academic Affairs. A substantial research/scholarship component is common to the missions of official University Centers, but they may also involve instruction or related service. Their internal funding (initial and continuing) is drawn fully, or in large part, from central university funds (i.e., Office of the President, Office of Academic Affairs, Office of Research, etc.). The leadership of the center reports to one or more of those offices. A variable mix of emphases, including research/scholarship, instruction, service, clinical or outreach missions, define College Centers. Internal funding (initial and continuing) is drawn fully, or in large part, from one college or a small set of colleges. The leadership of the center will report to one dean or a small set of deans. Centers whose missions focus on academic-focused activities but do not fall into university or college categories. Non-Academic centers are those centers where the primary purpose is not instruction, research, or related service. How will you make your mark? Or maybe a more critical question: Where is the best environment to get started? Ohio State has the breadth and depth to take you wherever your goals lead. We are looking to add the best and brightest to make their mark in this year's class. Will it be you? The Office of Academic Affairs enables students and faculty's success in teaching and learning, research, and creative expression. Our mission is to provide a comprehensive, inclusive, and affordable education that prepares the next generation of leaders and engaged citizens to serve Ohio, the country, and the world. The Office of Academic Affairs provides direct support to affiliated units through four shared service areas. Staff in these areas report directly through OAA and support ongoing internal operations and support critical partnerships throughout the University. The OAA Fiscal Services team handles purchases and other transactions for OAA and its reporting units and acts as a liaison to the Procurement Shared Services Center (PSSC). The HR Service Center provides customer service related to HR, payroll, and new hire transactions and guidance on university HR policies and procedures to ensure compliance and data integrity. The Office of Academic Affairs Information Technology unit provides top-notch service and capabilities to affiliated units. From software development and database maintenance to web hosting and networking, OAA IT ensures that all facets of the academic mission operate with efficiency, effectiveness, and security. The marketing communications staff in Academic Affairs is responsible for communication from the provost's office and leadership team to the university community, and the office's associated website. Also, we assist with strategic communications about events that originate with Academic Affairs, such as faculty orientations and leadership retreats, and for units that fall under its umbrellas, such as the University Institute for Teaching and Learning and the Emeritus Academy. Ensuring that students learn and succeed is fundamental to Ohio State's mission. Doing so addresses academic priorities and institutional goals to enhance the student experience and provide students with an unsurpassed, student-centered learning experience. As an institution committed to teaching and learning, we are committed to ensuring our students and educators are equipped with the best tools for success. One of these tools is a learning outcomes assessment. Assessment is a broad-based activity that occurs at several levels across the University in both the curricular and co-curricular learning environments. Some assessments are carried out at the institutional level and others within courses using a myriad of means. Primarily, however, assessment is a faculty-driven endeavor conducted at the program level. All degree programs have articulated student learning outcomes and provide annual reports on their assessment activities to the Office of Academic Affairs. Undergraduate programs typically report on findings and plans for improvement. Graduate programs address at least one crucial question about student learning in their programs and report to the Graduate School. Professional programs provide summary updates and are monitored regularly on their assessment activities through specialized accreditation. Across all reporting venues, findings are expected to be accurate and represent all students in the program.

When NC State University was founded in 1887, the school embodied ideals that were rapidly transforming higher education. Chief among them was the belief that colleges should not be reserved for a select few and that the children of farmers, mechanics, and other workers should have access to the opportunities and benefits of higher education. A new generation of progressive thinkers founded the college, known then as the North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts. No organization did more to advance this new institution's cause than the Watauga Club, a reform-minded group of lawyers, teachers, doctors, and business people in Raleigh — all of them younger than 30. Watauga Club member Charles W. Dabney, who wrote the new institution's legislation, exemplified the changes sweeping the South in the 1880s. The son of a Calvinist theologian who professed modern science skepticism, Dabney earned a Ph. D. in chemistry and built a reputation as one of the foremost agricultural scientists in the nation. Today we honor NC State’s founders — men like Dabney, William J. Peele, and Walter Hines Page — not just for their vision, but also because they lived when considerable foresight, skill, and courage were required to rally public support for higher education.
  8. Eastern's inclusive residential campus, outstanding faculty, emphasis on teaching excellence, and exceptional facilities raise students' aspirations and cultivate engagement, inquiry, integrity, and social responsibility. Eastern students apply theory in practical settings in the traditional arts and sciences and pre-professional programs grounded in the liberal arts. Faculty research, scholarship, creative work, and community engagement inform teaching and learning, advance knowledge, and enrich the liberal arts curriculum. The University is committed to serving the state of Connecticut and the nation by preparing its students for their future personal, professional, and public roles, as leaders in both their communities and professional fields. Aspiring to be a public liberal arts college of the first choice, Eastern Connecticut State University will create an unparalleled college experience for its students and achieve national distinction for its academic programs. Eugene Smith Library supports and enriches the University's teaching, learning, research, and outreach objectives by providing services and resources that foster intellectual curiosity and integrity, promote critical inquiry, and encourage awareness of the world beyond the campus. We provide a welcoming and comfortable space for quiet study or collaborative efforts, and professional staff to offer assistance and expertise. Individual students may choose to study for a semester off-campus, either through the National Student Exchange, which provides opportunities within the United States or foreign countries through various study abroad programs. Students typically live in host homes, take a full load of courses, including language courses related to the host country, and have time to explore the local culture. The Center for Community Engagement (CCE) offers students a road map and lifeline to the real world they will encounter as they pursue a life path and work in school and after graduation. It is a fantastic resource for Eastern to connect its faculty and academic programs to a wide range of volunteer community service opportunities that provide significant learning experiences. The local needs are immense, and the service options are unlimited. Credit for Lifelong Learning (CLL) is a unique program offered by Eastern for over 30 years. CLL enables adults to earn credit for the college-level learning gained through work, volunteer, and other experiences. Eastern has offered this program to eligible adults since 1973 because we recognize that significant learning occurs outside of the" traditional" college classroom. CLL is one of several nontraditional programs at Eastern through which adults can earn college credit toward their degrees. The ASC includes The Academic Advising Center, the Mathematics Achievement Center (The "MAC"), the Writing Center, Subject Tutoring and student Learning Strategies, and, finally, the Summer Transition at Eastern Program/Contract Admissions Program (STEP/CAP), an alternate admissions opportunity providing access and first-year support to qualified students. All of our offices are located on the J. Eugene Smith Library's first floor, at the front entrance (Writing Center) and next to the Library Café (MAC, Subject Tutoring & STEP/CAP). The Advising Center is just down the hall. We encourage all students, no matter their talent level, to exploit the resources the Center offers and make Eastern's educational experience as positive and stress-free as possible. The mission of the Division of Academic Affairs is to support Eastern students, faculty, and staff as they pursue the University's core values of academic excellence, engagement, inclusion, integrity, empowerment, and social responsibility. As a model program for research and best practices, we strive to create a setting where University faculty work on research projects and student participation occurs seamlessly. Faculty members support the classroom curriculum and provide the children and Center staff with exciting experiences. University students fulfill various roles at the Center, including observation, class requirements, and employment. 10. Cal Poly Pomona is among the best public universities in the West and is nationally ranked for helping students achieve economic success. As an inclusive polytechnic university, we cultivate success through experiential learning, discovery, and innovation. Our graduates are ready to succeed in the professional world on Day 1. Faculty in all disciplines put theory to practice, providing students with opportunities to apply their knowledge in hands-on projects, research collaborations, and valuable internship and service-learning programs. Our history and geography are unlike any other university in the region. Nowhere else can students ride an Arabian horse, practice on a Steinway piano, bring a new product to market, and build a liquid-fueled rocket. Cal Poly Pomona offers affordable, life-changing education. Less than 30 miles east of Los Angeles, it enjoys the excitement of a diverse metropolitan while retaining a foothill community's serenity. We cultivate success through a diverse culture of experiential learning, discovery, and innovation. Cal Poly Pomona will be the model for an inclusive polytechnic university that inspires creativity and innovation, embraces local and global challenges, and transforms lives. Our challenging curriculum runs the gamut from agriculture to cutting-edge engineering to hospitality management to business administration to sustainability. Moreover, every year for more than 65 years, our students join with students from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo to construct award-winning floats for the annual Tournament of Roses Parade that is viewed by millions around the world. Like the programs, our students here are as diverse as the range of courses. We welcome and value that diversity. Underrepresented minorities and first-generation college students account for many of the nearly 21,000 undergraduate students. We also are a veteran-friendly campus. Cal Poly Pomona programs have earned the campus a national reputation and high rankings on lists of best universities in U.S. News & World Report and other publications. The decorated and committed faculty and our dedicated staff have helped the university achieve these lofty academic accomplishments. The cornerstone of a Cal Poly Pomona education is our "learn-by-doing" philosophy that joins theory with practice and prepares our students for the working world. Consequently, our graduates are highly regarded and sought after in business, industry, and other professional fields. We have renowned alumni who are making a difference in their communities. The Office of Undergraduate Research at Cal Poly Pomona (OUR-CPP) was established in 2013 to increase undergraduate student participation in research programs. Participation in research as an undergraduate has been proven to not only expand your academic experience at CPP but also improve student retention and graduation rates. Cal Poly Pomona is one of only two polytechnic universities of the 23 California State University campuses and 11 in the nation. The classical meaning of polytechnic is "skilled in many arts." At Cal Poly Pomona, it means more than that. Here, we weave technology and hands-on learning experiences into our academic programs, bringing textbook concepts to life in a technologically advanced and multicultural world. Students also experience a broad-based education through our general education program. All of our academic disciplines embrace the teaching of theory through application. We take a multi-faceted approach to problem-solving, looking at a situation from all possible angles. A biology student might use digital image analysis to monitor the growth of a virus. An urban and regional planning student might use GIS (geographic information systems) to chart the shrinking of low-income housing in an urban area. This focus on actions and solutions turns our students into skilled workers, integrative problem solvers, and well-balanced leaders. Cal Poly Pomona benefits from a richly diverse community reflective of the greater Los Angeles area. Our student body is roughly one-third Latino, one-quarter Asian, and 3 percent black. The university also has a healthy percentage of out-of-state and international students. U.S News noted that Cal Poly Pomona was eighth-most diverse among regional universities in the West and the tenth most diverse nation. Designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution, Cal Poly Pomona is in the top 25 colleges awarding baccalaureate degrees to Hispanics. The Hispanic Business magazine also lauded the university's ability to help Hispanic postgraduate students succeed. Cal Poly Pomona opened on Sept. 15, 1938, with an all-male enrollment of 110 students as the Voorhis Unit of California State Polytechnic College in San Luis Obispo. It was located on the 150-acre San Dimas site of the former Voorhis School for Boys. Breakfast cereal magnate W.K. Kellogg deeded 813 acres of land located three miles south of the Voorhis campus to California in 1949. In 1956, 508 students and 44 faculty and staff moved from San Dimas to the Kellogg campus. In a first for the all-male campus, 329 women joined the student body in 1961. The Pomona campus separated from the San Luis Obispo campus in 1966 and became California State Polytechnic College, Kellogg Campus. University status was granted in 1972. Today, the university is part of the 23-campus California State University system. Cal Poly Pomona has about 24,000 students and 2,600 faculty and staff.

The office is also responsible for maintaining and reporting crime statistics for the university as mandated by the Campus Awareness and Campus Security Act of 1990. In December of 1822, a group of citizens from Athens, Alabama, had a vision for an institute of higher learning to serve the educational needs of the women in the community. After five acres of land was purchased and a single building was built, Athens Female Academy was born. The storied history that would eventually lead to the creation of Athens State University began. In 1842, ownership of the school was transferred to the Tennessee Conference of the Methodist Church. With the switch, Athens Female Academy became Athens Female Institute. This name remained throughout the Civil War conflict and through the birth of the North Alabama Conference of the Methodist Church in 1870 when the institution came under the jurisdiction of that body. Following this transfer to the newly formed conference, the name was again changed to Athens Female College in 1889. As the only institution in Alabama offering upper-division educational services, Athens State University continues to enjoy the essential and unique position it has always occupied within the community. With a firm history upon which to build its foundation, Athens State's colorful past has supplied the institution with the tools necessary to continue serving Alabama far into the future. The strategic planning process at Athens State University provides direction, objectives, goals, benchmarks, and actions that ensure the university's advancement both internally and externally. In compliance with the Board of Trustee's Strategic Direction Policy and the Strategic Planning operating policy established by the President, the Strategic Planning Committee seeks broad-based input in the development and implementation of strategic goals and plans. The university's vision, mission, and goals statements ultimately serve as the foundation for strategic planning. The primary mission of Institutional Research and Assessment Services (IRAS) is to assist and support institutional planning, management, policy formulation, and decision-making, through the systematic collection, analysis, evaluation, and dissemination of valid and reliable information.
  14. The mission of Kansas State University is to foster excellent teaching, research, and service that develop a highly skilled and educated citizenry necessary to advancing the well-being of Kansas, the nation, and the international community. The university embraces diversity, encourages engagement, and is committed to discovering knowledge, the education of undergraduate and graduate students, and improvement in the quality of life and standard of living of those we serve. Kansas State University is a comprehensive, research, land-grant institution serving students and the people of Kansas, the nation, and the world. Since its founding in 1863, the university has evolved into a modern institution of higher education, committed to quality programs, and responsive to a rapidly changing world and an increasingly diverse society's aspirations. Together with other major comprehensive universities, K-State shares responsibilities for developing human potential, expanding knowledge, enriching cultural expression, and extending its expertise to individuals, business, education, and government. These responsibilities are addressed through an array of undergraduate and graduate degree programs, research and creative activities, and outreach and public service programs. Its land-grant mandate, based on federal and state legislation, establishes a focus on its instructional, research, and extension activities, which is unique among the Regents' institutions. Through quality teaching, the university is committed to providing all students with opportunities to develop the knowledge, understanding, and skills characteristic of an educated person. It is also pledged to prepare students for successful employment or advanced studies through various disciplinary and professional degree programs. To meet these intentions, the institution dedicates itself to providing academic and extracurricular learning experiences that promote and value both excellence and cultural diversity. K-State prepares its students to be informed, productive, and responsible citizens who actively advance cultural, educational, economic, scientific, and socio-political undertakings. Research and other creative endeavors comprise an essential component of K-State's mission. All faculty members contribute to the discovery and dissemination of new knowledge, applications, and products. These efforts, supported by public and private resources, are conducted in an atmosphere of open inquiry and academic freedom. Essential to this mission's pursuit is the university's commitment to broad-based programs in graduate education at both the master's and doctoral levels. Faculty, staff, and administrators share their expertise through service to the university and disciplinary organizations via outreach, engagement, and extension-related activities. Their work supports numerous projects related to the goals, missions, or aspirations of the departments, colleges of the university, and the members of the professional community. Through outreach and engagement initiatives, partnerships are established with various stakeholders to translate knowledge and basic research into applications that address public needs. These service activities are integrally related to the land-grant mission. The extension is governed by Kansas statutes that empower elected county councils and district governing boards with authority and responsibility to assess needs and conduct a local educational program in cooperation with Kansas State University and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). A network of local extension professionals and volunteers link Kansas State University faculty, the National Cooperative Extension System, to the USDA, which produces high-quality educational programs. If the proof is in the numbers, our case is clear. K-Staters are known for aiming high and then looking even higher from first-year students to tenured professors to entire departments. K-State is consistently ranked in the top 10 for many prominent Princeton Review rankings. We boast some of the highest numbers of national scholars in a public university, and our experts are called on to solve problems worldwide. How do you know if you are Wildcat material? It is easy. Wildcats are family. We are welcoming and inclusive. We believe in the greater good. We are the first to volunteer for demanding tasks. We love a challenge. We think before we act, and our actions are rooted in integrity and compassion. Being a Wildcat means taking chances to solve complex global challenges while still taking the time to do the simple things that make a big difference, like smiling at a stranger. No matter who or where you are, there is a place for you at K-State. We want to give you the tools you need to have an unforgettable college experience, land your dream job, and help change the world for the better. That is the Wildcat Way. It does not matter if you ask a long-time professor, recent graduate, passionate alum, or a fresh-eyed freshman. Pick a member of the K-State community at random and ask him or her what it means to be a Wildcat, and you will most likely get a one-word answer: Family. K-Staters consider themselves family, and that belief shines through contributions as diverse as our members. Researchers invent solutions to problems that could save a life halfway across the world, and students band together on a Saturday morning for community service. Thousands of Wildcat fans pack our stadiums shouting in unison, and our leadership guides us in ways befitting the obligations of a land-grant university. These obligations could be considered our family values, and the many ways we achieve them are the Wildcat Way. We invite you to come along for the ride because there is always room for one more in the K-State family.
  15. The Metropolitan State University of Denver has transformed the lives of more than 90,000 people in Denver and Colorado through affordable degree programs, innovative public-private partnerships, and a commitment to diversity. That is why MSU Denver now stands not only as a preeminent public urban university but also as a bastion of the American dream. At the Metropolitan State University of Denver, we believe that every student should have an opportunity to better their life. And we know that higher education is the critical factor in upward economic and social mobility. That is why we offer the highest-quality education at the lowest tuition rate in Colorado. Our students come from every background and experience. We have veterans looking to re-establish themselves in the workforce, first-generation college students trying to do a little better than their parents, and plenty of people who want to change directions in their careers. They may have taken a zig-zagging path to get to college, but they find their way here and leave as Roadrunners. We graduate Fulbright scholars, award-winning novelists, noted academics, pioneering scientists, and many others at the top of their fields. And that is further proof of why we need to give every student a fair shot, why we do not define ourselves by whom we exclude, but by whom we include. Because every student has the potential to be something or someone more generous, to move up the social and economic ladder, in short, to achieve the American dream, we hope you will join us as we work to become the model urban University for opportunity, diversity, excellence, and transformation. In the early days of the University, students dubbed themselves “Roadrunners” because they sprinted across downtown Denver’s busy streets to get to classes. In 1974, students named the Roadrunner the University’s mascot. But over the years, the MSU Denver Roadrunner has come to signify more, including the fighting spirit shared by every graduate of the University. MSU Denver’s commitment to the metropolitan Denver community is evidenced by our off-campus exhibition space, public-private partnerships, and a wide array of workforce-ready internships. These opportunities build academic and professional qualifications while offering industries trained workers with up-to-the-minute skills. The Center for Visual Art (CVA), located in the Art District on Santa Fe, is the off-campus exhibition space of Metropolitan State University of Denver. In addition to showing significant contemporary art worldwide, the award-winning CVA is a division of the MSU Denver Department of Art, which is dedicated to providing an unparalleled urban learning environment and a strong sense of community within the local art scene. The Hotel and Hospitality Learning Center (HLC) is a distinct combination of a higher education classroom building, a teaching laboratory, a commercial hotel — SpringHill Suites by Marriott — and a conference space. Students from MSU Denver, along with full-time professionals with Sage Hospitality serving as mentors, work together to provide a truly unique learning environment and a successful revenue-generating venture for the University. The Detroit Institute of Music Education (DIME) and MSU Denver through DIME Denver offers accredited bachelor’s degrees in commercial music performance, commercial songwriting, and music industry studies. This exclusive educational partnership is grounded in both music and liberal arts studies, allowing aspiring musicians to pursue music careers while simultaneously working towards their bachelor degrees. MSU Denver is a full member of the National Association of Music (NASM). Aerospace and Engineering Sciences brings together civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering technology, computer information systems, and computer sciences in a new $60 million facility opened in June 2017. It includes Colorado’s only Advanced Manufacturing Sciences Institute. Funding came from the state Capital Development Fund, University construction dollars, and private donations. The new building will house York Space Systems, Hartwig, Inc., and EyesSat LLC, all of which will collaborate with faculty and students. Quality academics play the most significant role in your college education. However, you can learn so much more from the entire college experience – especially one that’s infused by a proper urban learning environment where connections and influence go way beyond the edge of campus. It is essential to file your FAFSA early as we may request additional information from you and your parents to complete your financial aid file.MSU will award funds to students who have applied for aid, complete their files, and meet all eligibility requirements. The amount of financial aid you are offered could depend, in part, on the date, you completed your financial aid file. Early applicants have a better chance of being offered more types of financial aid, depending on need. All admitted MSU Denver students would receive an acknowledgment email once we have received their FAFSA each year. Be sure to check your MSU Student Hub for essential updates. MSU Denver cares about the safety and security of our community. In partnership with the Auraria Higher Education Center (AHEC), we take strides to protect and inform our community about pertinent matters related to crime prevention and safety on campus and near the campus. The information provided on this site is intended to educate students, faculty, staff, and visitors about our University and campus safety and security measures.

  17. Ferris State University is a mid-sized four-year public university known for its quality of instruction and extensive selection of academic programs, ranging from the associate to doctoral degrees, offered through eight degree-granting colleges: Arts and Sciences, Business, Education and Human Services, Engineering Technology, Health Professions, Kendall College of Art and Design, Michigan College of Optometry, and Pharmacy. The university's main campus is located in scenic Big Rapids, Michigan. The university strives to align its practices and resources to support its core values of collaboration, diversity, ethical community, excellence, learning, and opportunity. Ferris' mission is to prepare students for successful careers, responsible citizenship, and lifelong learning. Through its many partnerships and career-oriented, broad-based education, Ferris serves our rapidly changing global economy and society. Ferris equips students to contribute to a changing world by offering a challenging, adaptive curriculum that consists of a unique blend of technical and professional programs based in traditional academic areas and driven by industry demand. Its many and varied program offerings include several degrees that are unique in Michigan or the United States. Students at Ferris have unparalleled access to faculty due to their low student-faculty ratio and small class sizes, which promote more engaging instruction, one-on-one career advice, and professional connections. Courses at Ferris State are taught by credentialed, dedicated instructors who have real-world experience in their fields and provide relevant, adaptive coursework emphasizing hands-on learning. Ferris is committed to ensuring that students gain real-world skills outside of the classroom. The university works with numerous external partners, including alumni, industry, and professional leaders, for program direction and networking advantages. It also requires program-related internships in most of its degree programs. As a result, most students enrolled in Bachelor's or more advanced degree programs participate in internships that support their personal and professional growth. Ferris serves students from many different backgrounds and regions and provides access to educational opportunities through a traditional, residential college experience on the university's main campus in Big Rapids or its statewide locations, online learning, and partnerships with community colleges and career technical centers. More than any institution in the state, Ferris State has connected with Michigan community colleges, creating partnerships on multiple campuses and expanding its online offerings to allow students to complete coursework at their local community colleges toward a Ferris degree. More students choose to transfer to Ferris than any other university in Michigan. Ferris offers a unique transfer process that allows students to build on their education with little or no credit loss. Some Ferris majors are offered at no other university in Michigan or the United States. More than 180 undergraduate and graduate majors include 2-year degrees that "ladder" into 4-year, Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degrees, eight master's degrees, and Doctorates of Education, Optometry and Pharmacy. Here at Ferris State University, classes are taught by professors - not graduate assistants. The great majority of those classes are taught in small groups, not big lecture halls. You're unique. We think your education should be, too. Ferris students are an essential part of the university workforce. There are over 2000 student employees on campus working in several diverse areas. Our goal is to help students find employment to learn transitional job skills to help them when they graduate. Working while attending Ferris also helps students earn income to assist them with their educational expenses. Having a part-time job is a great way to help limit your student loans. Effective as of the fall of 2017, Ferris State University has implemented a revised General Education program. All students declaring an academic major in fall 2017 or later must fulfill the revised General Education requirements. Students declaring a major before fall 2017 remain under the aegis of the old General Education requirements. In many respects, General Education at Ferris will seem very familiar to you. However, there are new requirements for Collaboration and Problem solving for all Bachelor's degree programs. These courses exist in each program at Ferris and will not add any additional cost or time to the degree. New student learning outcomes (FLOs) have been defined for all eight Core Competencies, and a comprehensive assessment plan has been created to evaluate student proficiency in these critical skills. The West Michigan English Language Institute (WMELI) provides English language instruction to non-native speakers to successfully develop essential English language skills to pursue their academic and career goals successfully. In many ways, Cal State Northridge began like many other Valley institutions: Trees were cleared, and foundations poured at sites that were once orange, lemon, or avocado groves. Hand-lettered signs gave directions to temporary buildings connected by plank pathways. However, before that humble start, there was a great deal of political maneuvering to ensure that a four-year college would even be located in the Valley. In 1952, state officials had initially been identified Baldwin Hills as the site of a satellite campus for Los Angeles State College (now Cal State Los Angeles). In reaction to the decision, Valley leaders organized to overturn the legislation successfully and to ensure later that a four-year college would be situated in the San Fernando Valley. On December 21, 1954, advocates for a Valley four-year college hosted 23 legislators for dinner at the Brown Derby on Wilshire Boulevard. Armed with demographic projections, they pitched the Valley as the only logical place for the next state college. The pitch worked. In 1955, state Assemblyman Judge Julian Beck sent the legislation for approval to purchase land in the north San Fernando Valley for a new satellite campus to Los Angeles State College.

  20. California State University, Dominguez Hills, was founded in 1960; however, the campus sits on land with a long and rich history. The university's 346 acres were once a section of the first private land grant in Southern California—the Rancho San Pedro. Juan José Dominguez (1736-1809), a Spanish soldier, received the original grant of 75,000 acres in 1784 from King Carlos III of Spain. While much of the acreage has been sold and developed, portions remain in possession of Dominguez descendants. The site chosen for the university was known as the Dominguez Hills, named after the family. CSU Dominguez Hills offers a wide selection of great degrees that reflect today's in-demand fields. Our degree programs offer a well-rounded curriculum that combines rigorous academics with a practical education. California State University, Dominguez Hills, commits to connect with the communities we serve and to build partnerships in the surrounding South Bay region of Southern California. Being a valued member of the community is one of the university's highest priorities. We work to develop and enhance CSU Dominguez Hills' relations with a wide range of constituent groups – residents, businesses, civic organizations, governmental agencies, and local legislators – promoting mutual understanding, coordinating the campus's response to local public policy issues, and helping members of the community access the university's many resources. To successfully meet our mission and effectively serve our students and our community, CSU Dominguez Hills must find additional mechanisms to provide the high-quality physical learning environment necessary to educate our students and ensure CSUDH graduates have the knowledge and skills necessary to compete and succeed in their chosen fields. Academic buildings are critical to providing the foundational programs identified in the 1963 statewide master plan for higher education, including the sciences, business administration, education, and liberal arts. However, at CSU Dominguez Hills, such buildings are more than 40 years old. Since 2009, CSU Dominguez Hills has received no new state-funded buildings. Also, none of the temporary buildings from the 1960s have been replaced, and over the last 25 years, only two new state-funded buildings, Welch Hall and the Library addition, have been added to the campus. Foundational programs essential to high-quality academic instruction primarily reside in buildings constructed between 1963 and 1977 or in temporary buildings purchased by the campus. In order to best position the university to leverage our unique land assets and generate additional revenue that can assist in financing and renovating academic buildings and support other academic instructional needs, the university recently partnered with AEG (operator of sports and entertainment venues around the world, including the StubHub Center on land leased from the university) and the City of Carson to engage the Urban Land Institute (ULI). ULI is comprised of accomplished developers, real estate specialists, economic development consultants, architects, academics, and other land-use professionals to assess and provide expert, independent, timely, and unbiased input on university land development plans and opportunities via an approach referred to as a Technical Advisory Panel (TAP). Joining the CSUDH Greek community will allow you to meet many outstanding student leaders and become involved on campus and throughout the Los Angeles and South Bay communities. Membership in a fraternity or sorority helps foster friendships and creates many valuable networks to help you succeed in college. Greeks pride themselves on participating in experiences that highlight outstanding academics, culture, and social development, leadership, and service for and with others. The Greek community is one of the largest student-run organizations on campus. We invite you to experience one of our 17 organizations as you begin to explore options for involvement and leadership on campus. Each fraternity and sorority brings something unique to Greek Life. Whether it is philanthropy activities, campus leadership, or social programs, there are always opportunities for involvement.

John Bidwell donated his eight-acre cherry orchard to secure the northern branch of the State Normal School for Chico in 1887. The corner boundaries of his cherry orchard are marked today by planting cherry trees, each with a plaque that commemorates this gift. Construction began at Chico State Normal School, and the campus opened in 1889 with 90 students and five faculty members. The first class of teachers graduated in June 1891. Chico State Normal School became Chico State Teachers College in 1921. The college soon added a junior college curriculum and awarded a certificate after two years. In 1924 it began granting baccalaureate degrees. Two years after a fire destroyed the Normal Building in 1927, a new administration building was constructed on the site, later renamed Kendall Hall. The California legislature converted its colleges to state colleges in 1935, and Chico State Teachers College became Chico State College. During this period, chimes were installed in the Trinity tower, the first biological laboratory was established at Eagle Lake, and the University Farm was dedicated to the memory of Paul L. Byrne. Chico State also granted its first bachelor of science and master's degrees. California State University. In 1972, the college became California State University, Chico. Academic departments and programs, previously grouped by schools, were reorganized into colleges, and, in 1982, the campus was dedicated as an arboretum. The campus proper is 119 acres. The University also manages 800 acres of farmland, 240 acres of rangeland, and 2,330 acres of ecological reserves.CSU, Chico has come a long way since its founding in 1887. The frontiers of knowledge and teaching tools have expanded beyond the imagination of the Normal school's first students. Nevertheless, as the 125th-anniversary events remind us, CSU, Chico is a place of enduring traditions and growth and transformation. The numbers in the sidewalks at the entrance to Kendall Hall cover time capsules prepared by each class year. This tradition was discontinued in 1969 but rekindled in 2000 with the Associated Students and the Alumni Association's help. Ever since each year, alumni from past decades are invited to campus during Founders Week to witness the opening of their classes' time capsule and reminisce about their days on campus.

We value all community members' intrinsic worth—we expect everyone to participate in and contribute to our collegial environment. Ball State's tradition of innovation and entrepreneurship is rooted in the late 19th century when Muncie business leaders envisioned a local college to boost its development. Among the visionaries were Frank C. Ball and his brothers, young New York industrialists who moved to Muncie, looking to expand their glass container business. A small, private teacher training school opened in 1899. After the community's efforts to sustain the college failed, the Ball brothers purchased the defunct institution's land and buildings and donated them to the State of Indiana. This gift became the Indiana State Normal School Eastern Division, which opened in 1918 to meet Indiana's need for more and better teachers. In recognition of the Ball family's generosity, the Indiana General Assembly changed the school's name to Ball Teachers College in 1922 and then Ball State Teachers College in 1929. The winged statue Beneficence stands on the campus as a tribute to the family. This and other landmarks from Ball State's early years are featured in our historical walking tour of the Old Quadrangle. Today, Ball State's entrepreneurial spirit continues to shine through numerous expansions and additions of degree offerings, technological resources, immersive learning opportunities, community outreach projects, and state-of-the-art facilities. These investments prepare bright students to take advantage of current and emerging job opportunities, meet society's most pressing needs, and serve the communities in which they will live and work.
  23. The students, faculty, and staff at Boise State University are known for their grit and ambition. While we may be most famous for our iconic Blue Turf, we have built a metropolitan doctoral research university in the Northwest, with our faculty and student researchers working to answer some of the most intriguing questions facing us today. Students stand with us in the lab, in the field, as part of the learning and discovery process. You see, Boise State’s faculty and staff are guided by one simple but powerful conviction: our students are the future leaders, thinkers, and innovators of the American West, and that future begins in the classrooms of our campus, situated in the heart of BOISE, IDAHO, across the river from downtown, at the intersection of the region’s centers of government, technology, business, and the arts. On-campus, we prime students to jump into Boise’s rapidly growing professional and cultural scene, not only by their proximity to our state’s capital and bustling downtown core but also by the SUPERIOR EDUCATION they receive Boise State. Recently we have significantly revamped our undergraduate experience to make students more career-ready. When you seek the opportunities of a big city and the excitement of the great outdoors, when you push the boundaries of academics and crave the thrill of athletics when you combine information and imagination with dreams of changing the world, and when you can float down the river and finish in four, you do not just go to Boise State. You begin an adventure. Start your new adventure at Boise State University. From world-renowned faculty to cutting edge research. From individualized attention from advisors and mentors to a vibrant community. Boise State thrives on innovation and excellence. Accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities and discipline-specific accreditations, Boise State offers more than 120 undergraduate programs and 82 graduate programs. Boise is a hub for entrepreneurs and innovators. With low unemployment and one of the highest growth rates, Boise State graduates find many internships and practical training opportunities during their studies. Boise State has been recognized as one of the top three universities in the country for Outdoor Adventure and flies fishing — you can hook a trout in the shadow of Bronco Stadium. A walk or ride down the Greenbelt takes you past swimming holes, a whitewater park for kayakers and surfers, and the ballpark where future Colorado Rockies take their first professional swings as BOISE HAWKS. If you head the other direction, you will see hundreds of floaters and tubers on hot summer days, cyclists, stand-up paddle-boarders, and rock climbers who take to the cliffs above the Boise River. Into food? Boise hosts two FARMERS’ MARKETS Downtown, and a growing menu of local and national restaurant options from food trucks and steak houses to unique international cuisine. We are supportive of local business and commerce while growing a healthy mix of economic development and industry. Boise is the home of the four-day TREE FORT MUSIC FEST and groups like the IDAHO DANCE THEATRE, one of the local arts groups that join acclaimed international traveling performers using the MORRISON CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS, right here on our campus. Families enjoy Boise’s schools, low costs, and low crime rates — and many find comfortable homes among our diverse religious communities. Moreover, our many cultures love to share: from the Jewish Deli Days to the Greek and Russian food festivals to the massive gathering of Basques from around the world held every five years in Boise. The city loves to come together for special events. Boise’s local companies make microchips and memory sensors, solar-powered streetlights, and wireless hotspots. They make some of the world’s most renowned trout fly reels and most reliable and durable whitewater rafts. We are the home of the Pacific Northwest’s largest aircraft services company and one of the country’s leading manufacturers of diesel-electric light and massive rail engines. Moreover, many of these companies are powered by Boise State innovations and employees. More than 600 Bronco alumni work at MICRON TECHNOLOGY, for example. Boise State graduates make up the entire international foods division at the J.R. SIMPLOT CO. Our computer science students are in such demand that by the time they finish their third year, about 90 percent of them have locked down local internships – many with job offers to wait for them when they graduate. That entire department is moving into the heart of downtown (which is just a few blocks away from campus) because tech and civic leaders find the program and its students such a valuable part of this industry. Boise State alumni, students, faculty, and staff are driving forces behind Boise’s visual arts scene, the famous outdoor IDAHO SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL, and the edgy BOISE CONTEMPORARY THEATRE. Moreover, the relationship between the arts community and campus is poised to take another leap soon with creating a new Fine Arts Building along Boise State’s main entrance, just across the bridge from the BOISE ART MUSEUM and the rest of the city’s cultural district.

With over $800 million in annual research expenditures, Penn State ranks among the top 20 U.S. research universities and is one of only two institutions in the nation accorded land grant, sea-grant, sun grant space-grant status. As Pennsylvania's only land-grant University, Penn State has broad teaching, research, and public service mission. But that mission was not so grandly conceived in 1855, when the Commonwealth chartered it as one of the nation's first colleges of agricultural science, to apply scientific principles to farming. Centre County became the new college site in response to 200 acres from gentleman farmer and ironmaster James Irvin of Bellefonte. Founding President Evan Pugh drew on the scientific education he had received in Europe to plan a curriculum that combined theoretical studies with practical applications. Pugh and similar visionaries in other states championed Congressional passage of the Morrill Land-Grant Act in 1862. The act enabled states to sell federal land, invest the proceeds, and use the income to support colleges "where the leading object shall be, without excluding scientific and classical studies ... to teach agriculture and the mechanic arts [engineering] ... in order to promote the liberal and practical education of the industrial classes in all the pursuits and professions of life." The state legislature designated Penn State, the land-grant institution of Pennsylvania.
