St. Declan's School was founded in 1958 by the Irish Jesuits for children who, for personal or emotional reasons, achieve below their potential in their local schools. We strive to create a supportive environment for the boys and girls in our care. St. Declan's caters to children who, for one reason or another, are achieving below their potential at school. Boys and girls of primary school age, who have run into personal or educational difficulties in another school, can be referred to St. Declan's. If children have the sort of problems that can be helped by a year or a few years in St. Declan's, they can transfer here until they are ready to return to mainstream school…

On July 25th, 1887 the General Council of the Holy Ghost Fathers meeting in Paris gave its approval for the establishment of a Secondary School in Rathmines. Jules Botrel – the Provincial Superior – was able to write with evident relief. Larkhill was originally built in 1841. It was later rented and then bought by Mr. James Walker, a Quaker. Fr. Botrel bought it for £2,000. Adapting it for the f…

Our school is named after John Scottus Eriugena, the Platonist philosopher, theologian, and poet of Ireland’s Golden Age. Our values are inspired by a common thread, or perennial philosophy, found in the great traditions of East and West. We see spirituality as the true essence of every human being and we welcome those of all faiths and those of none. Our motto (borrowed from the renaissance Florentine philosopher Marsilio Ficino) expresses the importance we attribute to being fully present and connected in every moment. At John Scottus, we empha…
