      1. If you're new to TDChristian High School, we think it's a very special place. Just ask our nearly 5000 graduates. If one word comes up over and over again, it's community. Our relatively small size, strong student-teacher relationships, intentional community building, and student opportunities for connecting, performing and learning means that you're never just a number at TDChristian. Our mission is to be an intentional and God-honouring learning community. Our vision is to be a community of learners who serve God and others through authentic and relevant Christ-centred education. TDChristian High School’s focus statement: Learning for Service in the Light of God's Word. Learning at TDChristian takes place by enfolding, engaging, and empowering students. Why? As God’s image-bearers, students matter. To live a life of service, students need to know themselves and be known. When students are accepted and accepting, and their talents, passions, and gifts are recognized, they become important members of the school community. Such enfolding provides a firm foundation for learning. How? From the initial family interview until graduation, we work diligently with students in uncovering and developing their God-given talents for service. We welcome them into multi-grade “family” homerooms in which they contribute, celebrate, and grow. During the first week of Grade 9, students are brought into the TDChristian community while learning and serving on a two-day trip. During their time at TDChristian, students learn through rich experiences in diverse areas: academics, video, art, drama, music, athletics, and STEM space. Throughout the school year, we challenge our students to cultivate their passions and develop their abilities while sharing their learning, especially through presentations. Why? Learning at TDChristian is for today, with an eye to tomorrow. A love of learning is fostered by piquing students’ interests and taking into account their gifts. Creating room for students to have voice and choice in their learning produces determination, allows for healthy risk-taking, and brings about a rigorous depth of understanding. Additionally, engaged students develop grit, perseverance, and a strong work ethic. Learning is stimulated and nurtured in our inviting and up-to-date physical and virtual learning spaces. However, it flourishes through the student-teacher relationship which we emphasize and foster. Our teachers are engaged in, passionate about, and dedicated to their craft. In each learning opportunity, they assist students in sharing their findings in significant and relevant ways. Projects that emphasize skills such as creativity, collaboration, initiative, adaptability, information analysis, entrepreneurship, and effective oral and written communication are essential to learning at TDChristian. Students are pushed to become wisely discerning, to think and learn about how to conduct themselves and how to serve effectively in an ever-changing world. Why? For learning to be relevant and service-driven, TDChristian’s walls must be permeable. We desire to connect our students authentically to life outside the institution by partnering with groups and organizations to grow the kingdom of God. We want our students to work actively with others, from getting their hands dirty to giving leadership willingly, so that they are a blessing to their communities and they are blessed in the process. Students are empowered when they contribute to our vibrant community through student leadership opportunities and assemblies. Service trips, Focus Days, Project Days, and Internships immerse students in learning outside the building – integrating learning with life is paramount. Daily, we stretch students creatively, intellectually, and practically to impact all of God's creation including in athletics, the arts, drama, and robotics. Courses in Communications Technology and Entrepreneurship along with interdisciplinary blocks of learning in French & History, the environment, social justice, and engineering complement a full range of courses. We aim to link students to outside organizations or places in which they can serve with their hearts and minds. It's about providing learning opportunities. TDChristian offers a wide range of courses to appeal to students with different interests, abilities, talents, and goals. In other words, we work with students and families so that students get into and are successful in diverse university or college programs. Our desire is for students to find programs that fit with their hopes, dreams, and aspirations, including strong math and science options, English and humanities, the social sciences, arts, and technology. In short, we work diligently to help students at high school learners so that they can continue their post-secondary education in programs that match their aptitude and interest. Besides offering the courses required for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma, students take additional courses (such as Bible and Perspectives) to qualify for the TDChristian diploma. We also offer students the opportunity to explore diverse optional courses to truly discover their talents and skills. View full school
      2. TFS holds a special place in history as the pioneer of French immersion education in Canada. Today, as a French and multilingual international school, we are in a unique position to empower our students to become accomplished individuals, as well as responsible citizens who consciously choose to make a positive difference in the world. That is precisely the sentiment expressed in our motto: Individuals who reflect, citizens who act. Our school has long been renowned for its excellent academics. In addition, our identity is deepened by ascribing to specific values – integrity, discernment, respect, and engagement – that is lived by staff and nurtured in students every day. Ultimately, a TFS education is based on three major pillars: academic ambition, all-around development, and an international perspective. In the first place, we want our students to exude academic ambition, to have a knowledge-seeking spirit that embraces the importance of continuous effort, and to see the challenge as an opportunity for learning. We encourage them to adopt a growth mindset, where they never say, “I can’t do that,” but rather, “I can’t do that yet.” We also want our students to benefit from an all-around development as individuals and citizens. We facilitate their acquisition of skills for life, such as self-confidence, team spirit, creativity, initiative, and entrepreneurship. We nurture a sense of citizenship through our mentorship program, assemblies, and societies. In addition, they have many opportunities to explore and develop a range of passions in areas such as athletics and the arts through a broad variety of clubs and other co-curricular activities. This explains why our graduates are well-rounded, emotionally intelligent young men and women, who can balance their rights as individuals with their responsibilities as citizens. Finally, as a school that was founded to promote multilingualism as one of its core principles, we are particularly conscious that fluency in other languages gives TFS students a gateway to other cultures and different ways of understanding the world. Our families and staff are linguistically and culturally diverse, and this diversity strengthens us as a community. Our pupils have many opportunities to experience the power of language and gain intercultural competencies through a range of trips and exchanges abroad. Our international perspective is further reinforced by teaching the curricula of France and Ontario through the framework established by the IB programs. It is this layering of language, personal interaction, experiential journeys, and varied academic programs that gives TFS students an international outlook and inspires in them a purposeful will to contribute to the progress of humanity. These are the ideals and beliefs that permeate our community, as we walk together in the same direction and share the conviction that we provide the best possible education for our children. The TFS community develops multilingual critical thinkers who celebrate difference, transcend borders, and strive for the betterment of humankind. Our students are empowered to make an impact on the world. TFS is renowned for its academics. The rigor of our curriculum — in which we teach the curricula of France and Ontario through the framework established by the IB programs — is unparalleled. Our graduates leave TFS with an education that is rich in challenge, diversity, and opportunity, and they study in universities and pursue the programs of their choice. While this focus on student achievement has always been central to who we are, our goal as a school is to develop academically ambitious students. What is academic ambition? In some ways, it can be summed up through our motto: Individuals who reflect, citizens who act. Our motto emphasizes the responsibility of individuals to engage in reflection and lifelong learning so that they can develop the discernment needed to become active citizens who can make a positive impact in the world. More specifically, our understanding of effective learning is based on the concept of academic ambition, which views learning as an ongoing journey of wonder and fascination, and the learner as an ethical and intellectually curious traveler in search of meaning. Learning based on the spirit of academic ambition is characterized by several attitudes and practices. For instance, our students pursue knowledge and understanding through deep inquiry. They develop critical thinking to better understand the complexity of the world and make wise choices. It is common for our students to question respectfully the status quo as a result of their deep understanding of causes and consequences in the local and global contexts. They communicate effectively in a variety of contexts, collaborating closely with others in the construction of meaning. Our students embrace academic challenges through a model of trial and error and they tackle challenges with integrity, resilience, and self-belief. They reflect constantly on learning so that steps for growth can be established, reviewed, and updated. Ultimately, they continually strive for excellence and use their acquired knowledge, skills, and dispositions to contribute to the betterment of humankind. TFS is defined as being “Une école exigeante” in the sense that we believe that our attitudes and practices as educators should model, enable and nurture academic ambition. At TFS, our students become bilingual in French and English, and they can choose third language classes starting in Grade 6. We often describe our program as “beyond French immersion” as our students learn French as a first language, following the curriculum from France and, at all times in the day, actively practicing their French with francophones from around the world. We understand that languages do not exist in a vacuum and are deeply connected to culture, which is why our education introduces our students to the diverse cultures tied to different Francophone countries. They gain an ability to see the world from multiple perspectives, think broadly, and relate more deeply. TFS believes in coeducation because life is coeducational. Many of our graduating students have been studying together since Grade 1 or before. Their experiences teach them how to communicate and collaborate, and to accept and truly respect one another’s differences. Our community is diverse. Collectively, our families speak more than 60 languages. Our teachers hail from all parts of Canada, and many parts of the francophone world: la Francophonie. And while TFS is non-denominational, we welcome families of all faiths. A profound sense of ethical citizenship, guided by the four values of integrity, discernment, respect, and engagement, imbues our teaching and learning. We encourage our students to acquire a global outlook based on mastering several languages, developing intercultural skills, and taking a keen interest in local, national, and international affairs. We nurture this sense of citizenship not just because this is good in itself, but also because it is the best way to ensure that they have a positive impact in the world through their chosen professional careers or personal passions. 3. It is with great pleasure that I share with you the success of our bilingual school at the Toronto French Montessori over the last 15 years. Thanks to our vibrant and active community, we achieved our goals and for this, I congratulate you all. The past 15 years have been years of growth and change for the school. We have much to look forward to as we continue to grow to meet the needs of our students in the future. The challenge before us is to maintain the spirit of faith and hope and further develop the sense of family, all of which are integral parts of this school. Looking at our school today, I am reminded that the progress achieved is due in part to the pioneering spirit of those eleven families who believed and had trust in what could be done. In July 2000, we had nothing to offer their children except a bilingual French Montessori education. We had not yet hired any staff and we did not have any real capital. Yet, these 11 families had faith and vision. It is through their faith and vision that we achieved our goals. In 2011, we had our first grade 8 graduating class. Our duty and commitment at Toronto French Montessori School are to provide the best possible education to our students and ease their entry to their high schools. Furthermore, we provide guidance and answers to their expectations at the next level of their life experience. Our qualified teachers are deeply committed to their student's academic development, dedicating their time to provide an enriched and rewarding learning experience both in French, English, and Spanish as a second language. TFMS accepts students from 18 months to 5 years of age. We offer half-day and full-day programs for both the pre-casa and casa classes at our Stouffville Campus. TFMS has authentic Montessori classrooms under the direction of fully qualified Montessori teachers. Students in the elementary level benefit from a bilingual education, where both English and French are taught are dominant languages. Our students are very advanced in both the French language as well as the English Language. TFMS offers a Montessori Elementary and Junior High Program directed by teaching staff trained in the Montessori philosophy. Montessori schools follow a method of teaching based on the educational philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori. Conceptualized more than 100 years ago, it emphasizes and develops the potential of each child through the utilization of special teaching materials, a prepared environment, and teachers with a solid understanding of the philosophy who have been trained in the use of Montessori materials. Montessori recognizes that children possess an innate curiosity and desire to learn Montessori materials awaken this desire and channel the child's natural curiosity into an enjoyable learning experience. These didactic materials promote independence and are, for the most part, self-correcting, thus allowing children to progress at their own individual pace. As a result, children who grasp concepts quickly are not held back, and those who require more time do not become frustrated. The purpose of the material is to isolate a single concept and lead the child through a series of steps. A properly prepared Montessori classroom is replete with equipment encompassing subjects from math and language to geography, botany, and technology. To provide a nurturing Montessori community where the child's full potential is met in an integrated, interdisciplinary environment and where education is a valued preparation for life. Montessori was also a great advocate for world peace, having lived through several worldwide conflicts during the 20th century. She strongly believed that the road to peace would be paved by our children. She felt that if a child's needs were met and they were expected to give and receive respect in a community such as their classroom or school, that respect would be carried forward with them into adulthood. Peace through education is a fundamental part of Montessori's philosophy. TFMS strongly believes that every student will excel and achieve his/her maximum potential when they are provided an atmosphere of kindness, guidance, and nurturing. In turn, students will acquire a love of lifelong learning which will help them to discover the wealth of possibilities in their future. View full school

      5. Each Waldorf school shares a unique approach. It is our experience that the majority of our graduates are accepted into a university or other post-secondary program of their choice. Learn about our successful curricula below. Education from a deeper perspective™ is the core approach of Toronto Waldorf School. Its depth and complexity are reflected by the following foundations. At TWS we plan every learning activity attending to its impact on mind, body, and spirit. We understand each one affects the others and all engage in the learning process. Our lessons integrate listening, doing, thinking, and speaking to deepen the learning for every student. Our teachers bring our curriculum to life, connecting numerous academic disciplines with hands-on experience to engage your child’s mind and heart in profound ways. Integration of subjects and methodologies and relevance to the real world are fundamental to our approach to building academic excellence. It is our experience that nearly 100% of TWS graduates get into a university or other post-secondary program of their choice. At TWS, we recognize and build upon the physiological, emotional, and intellectual changes as the students develop. Our specially-trained teachers present material when the class is ready and able and work with it, whether it’s the fundamentals of reading or arithmetic, the structure of an essay, or grappling with atomic theory. Teaching approaches and learning tools vary widely, matched to students’ needs and capacities at every age and stage of development. At TWS we foster a climate where students are accepted and valued by their teachers and peers for their unique talents and potential. Since every child learns differently, our teachers tailor lessons to meet a variety of learning styles and provide individual support to meet each child’s needs. All children are given concrete feedback and progress is monitored against their unfolding capacities, rather than against other students. This allows students to develop skills and capacities with confidence. Every week our faculties meet to discuss individual students and create opportunities to enhance student learning. At TWS, children are supported to develop a sense of wonder and appreciation for the richness of the world on our unique 20-acre campus. In our Farming and Gardening program, students care for the environment and its inhabitants as they collect compost, tend our organic farm, and nurture seedlings in our greenhouse. Through the grades, our field trips have strong connections to natural settings, including camping and canoeing trips in the wilderness. A deeper understanding of the importance of sustainability and our connection to our global and local communities is a cornerstone of our education. More than the simple acquisition of information, Waldorf education is a journey of discovery. Our unique curriculum, designed to bring the right subject at the right developmental moment, is complemented by teachers who create opportunities for students to experience deeply what they are learning. Our students encounter subject matter experientially, through the story, movement, drawing, painting, writing, speaking, inventing, acting, sculpting, etc. they live the subject. This approach gives the student a profound experience of the subject matter that, for many, lasts a lifetime. The experiences extend beyond the classroom and school a Grade 12 class studying international issues helped plan and implement a community service trip to Cuba. The students participated in a community-building project and provided medical supplies to local doctors. Turning ideas into action is a hallmark of our educational approach, and imparts both a wealth of experience and knowledge to our students that they take with them into their personal and professional lives. We would encourage all parents to stay informed and involved in their child’s education.

We would encourage all parents to stay informed and involved in their child’s education. Parental engagement and involvement can bring both sides of a student’s life – home and school – together for marked improvements in attitude and achievement.
      14. Our school is known for its curriculum, culture, and high academic standards. Every day we engage, excite, and challenge our students intellectually, physically, and creatively. Founded in 1995, LFT is the only Toronto school, from PK to Grade 12, to combine the intellectually stimulating education of France's French curriculum with the inclusive Canadian perspective and values. Our students are fully immersed in the best aspects of our two complementary cultures. We have a co-ed enrolment of 500 students, and a genuinely international student body, with nearly half of our students speaking French at home. Many of our students speak an additional language, including Mandarin, Hindi, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, and Arabic… The school's intimate size allows us to create a close-knit, integrated, and respectful non-denominational community. LFT is one of 488 schools in 130 countries outside of France that is part of the AEFE Network (Agency For French Teaching Abroad) – an unparalleled global academic network. Most of our teachers, and the school's Headmaster, hail from France's education system, and many have taught internationally, producing an enriched and expansive educational environment. With bilingual education, LFT students study in some of the most competitive universities in Canada, the United States, and Europe. Equipped both intellectually and socially, they excel and thrive in the modern world. Our approach at LFT is to give students an authentic French Lycée education augmented by key Canadian content. The school curriculum is laid out by the French Ministry of National Education and is then enhanced with Canadian cultural classes and experiences. This dual approach creates responsible citizens equipped for the world of tomorrow. LFT is the only school in Toronto to offer a rigorous French education from Pre-K to Grade 12 paired with a Canadian perspective and artistic, cultural, athletic, and extracurricular activities. By following the French Education system, LFT sets the highest academic standards as we prep our students for the French Baccalauréat, which places particular attention on language, literature, math, science, history, and geography. Since 2000, the year in which the first graduating class took the Baccalauréat examinations, our students' results have been excellent, averaging 75% passing the exam with distinction. At LFT, we are proud to say that we have a 100% pass rate – that speaks volumes for our curriculum, students, and staff. This blend of French and Canadian foster a multi-cultural community that prides itself on social responsibility. With the help of the French government and the local French Consulate, the LFT was founded. In the first year, the school had 56 students and was located near the University of Toronto. During the following years, the LFT opened classes as these students grew, and then starting in the fall of 1997, additional classes were added. The first Grade 12 graduating class was in June 2000 with 23 graduates. In September 2002, the first kindergarten class was opened. Then in September 2008, the school moved to its present location on Dufferin Street. The LFT is part of the AEFE network and one of 522 French establishments abroad. Our aim remains the same to provide children with a high standard of education based on the French curriculum. The LFT curriculum stems from the French Ministry of Education and is enhanced with Canadian classes and activities. 16. What is education about? Our answer is: It is about the whole child. It is about building a great mind, but it is also about shaping a kind heart. The fast-changing world of the 21st century will ask for the independent and critical thinker, for the culturally aware individual, and the empathetic and respectful leader. GIST’s program combines academic excellence with high-quality character education. Allow me to explore this a little further. Our Kindergarten is based on play. Children explore and discover. However, we also offer a fully bilingual environment, phonetics programs in English and German, and an innovative pre-school concept called “Eingangsstufe” (Entry Level Program). Our native-speaking experts for early childhood education create a joyful place where learning and growing up happens in a supportive way. The GIST follows a state-of-the-art school curriculum, which combines the accelerated and competency-based German curriculum and the highly respected Ontario Curriculum to a superior blend. The GIST offers an outstanding multi-lingual education in German, English, and French. Our students are confident language-users who write poems in French and participate in Canadian writing contests. Modern, state-of-the-art education has to go beyond academic excellence. We are convinced that a balanced and challenging character education program sets children up for lasting success. Results of third party inspections and standardized tests, both Canadian and German, provide strong evidence of the school’s overall quality. We proudly hold the Seal of Excellence, awarded by the Federal President of Germany. We provide high-quality internationally-relevant education based on a synthesis of content & competency-driven instruction for students who aspire to be multi-lingual global citizens. A GIST education offers a well-blended school curriculum, which links the progressive and competency-focused German curriculum with the highly respected and content-based Ontario curriculum. The result is a fascinating educational offer that is both challenging and future-orientated. Our program, “CHARAKTER,” educates the whole student and speaks to the heart, mind, and soul. A GIST education offers excellent trilingual education in German, English, and French. In today’s and tomorrow’s world, intercultural competency and proficiency in more than one language are the pathways to success. A GIST education brings modern character education to the classroom and school community. Kindergarten is a German word! It reflects the German understanding of early childhood education: “Kindergarten” is different from “School.” Our Kindergarten is open for all children between the ages of three to six. It is not necessary to speak English or German. Kindergarten places the child into complete focus. Each child’s development is promoted by an educational program that is both child-centered and play-based. Children learn all the time! An educational program must ensure that learning is a positive encounter. Kindergarten is not about worksheets and school desks. It is about experiencing, exploring, and discovering, it is about smelling and feeling, it is about being active, and it is about getting your hands dirty. Children are passionate about what they are doing; our program helps them discover and foster their strengths. Our CHARACTER Program and the close connection to our Primary School ensure that every child can make full use of their potential. The very core of a school’s educational offer lies within its curriculum. At the GIST, we work with a unique school curriculum because it makes the best use of Germany’s and Canada’s great curricular foundations. We teach the German language based on a German curriculum. This curriculum comes with tailored teaching and learning supplies. Our language support program called “support and challenge” helps all students to acquire strong German language skills. We teach English based on the Ontario Curriculum because our students deserve to excel in English. It ensures that no student falls behind their respective peers in Ontario. Students who are new to studying English benefit from our language support program delivered by our E.S.L. experts (English as a Second Language). Mathematics is taught according to German curricular standards. This means that children learn times tables, explore the world of probability, operate with data, and expand their ability to arrive at solutions with formulas and calculations. Beginning in Grade 3, we teach French based on a German curriculum. It is comparable with Ontario’s core French curriculum. However, it is competency-based and accelerated. A curriculum featuring the best of Germany and Canada – competency oriented and content enriched. Students are provided with the opportunity to develop into well-rounded students who can interact proficiently with others on a local, national, and international stage in more than one language. Students learn to think critically, debate, exercise independence, and initiative while taking responsibility for themselves and their studies through discovery, projects, and problem-solving. In turn, they enjoy academically challenging programs. Within our small classes and due to the individualized and differentiated learning atmosphere, students can excel beyond their peers. When transitioning to a Canadian school or a German school (in Germany or another German School Abroad), our students have had nothing but seamless and successful experiences.

Based on the philosophy of whole child values, our students grow academically and socially from in-class studies and hands-on experiences. View full school
      19. View full school
