      About Me

      1. In 1989, a group of lecturers who had a new vision of design created a school to fulfill the needs of the growing industry and improve the existing educational system. Today, with nearly five thousand graduate students, ESAD is a reference in the field of arts and design, both in Portugal and around the world. Since its foundation, ESAD has bet on teaching quality, arguing that schools, in addition to awarding academic degrees, must be formative institutions in the full sense of the term. And also communicating platforms between civil society, industry, and the market. The school’s program includes graduation degrees in Design and Art, Masters in Design, various Post Graduate courses, an open training program, numerous workshops, and summer laboratories. Scholarships are also awarded annually to applicants of graduate degrees and Masters in Design. ESAD encourages students to understand the role of design and the arts and to intervene in national and international contexts. It seeks to develop skills in creativity, innovation, criticism, and technology. Educating, valuing, and innovating are the three fundamental guidelines to ESAD. Its 30 years of existence have been intense, marked by the wide range of awards and distinctions earned by the school across the years, both by students and lecturers at national and international events. Additionally, hundreds of seminars, conferences, workshops, exhibitions, and meetings have extended the training in an active and critical environment within the domain of design. The school has a strong relationship with the outside world. Establish partnerships with institutions, companies, and local authorities. A focus on innovation, memory, and heritage, targeted research, creative industries, and labor market integration. ESAD IDEA is the research center of ESAD, which came to frame and consolidate this work. The internationalization of the school goes back to its foundation. It passes through the ERASMUS exchange, for the mobility of students, teachers, and technical personnel, for the dissemination of academic projects, and the accomplishment of events and design publications. Currently, ESAD has bilateral partnerships and contracts with about 150 higher education institutions from five continents. The daily life of the school is intense, diverse, and productive. Classrooms, workshops, and studios are open to cross-cutting or specific activities and interdisciplinary or specialized tasks. It is intended that students can experiment, test, and produce in an assisted manner by teachers and technicians. ESAD produces and disseminates knowledge. The most relevant projects, as well as the subjects of reflection and academic research, are continuously published in bibliographic editions, available in the online storefront. Each year, ESAD participates in national and international competitions. In the areas of communication design, interiors, fashion, product or in digital and multimedia arts and jewelry, students have become accustomed to receiving prestigious awards in competitions from companies such as AcrobActic, Art and Fashion Bilbao, Bienal Ibero-Americana de Design, Bloom/Portugal Fashion, Bombay Sapphire, Caixa Geral de Depósitos, Cevisama, Clat5/ Apdes, Clube Português de Artes e Ideias, Electrolux Design, etc. View full university
      2. The University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn (UWM) was founded on 1 September 1999. The establishment resulted from merging three institutions of higher education in Olsztyn, i.e. the Academy of Agriculture and Technology, the Higher School of Pedagogy, and Warmian Theological Institute. At first, in 1999, there were 12 faculties, 32 branches of study, and 24.500 students at UWM. The University also had a right to grant doctoral degrees in 13 scientific disciplines, and postdoctoral degrees in 6 branches. According to the University’s Act of Establishment, the position of the first Rector of UWM was taken by Prof. Ryszard Górecki, Ph.D. The University has been settled in Kortowo – an academic campus that used to belong to the Academy of A&T. UWM has undergone an intense transformation since its beginnings. Achieving such progress would not be possible without the funds of the European Union. The educational and scientific bases of the University have been significantly reinforced, for example by purchasing high-tech laboratory equipment. Over the years, UWM's offer was extended to new branches of study, and consequently, new faculties were established. Currently, there are 17 faculties at UWM, 11 of which have full academic rights, namely the right to grant post-doctoral degrees (in 13 disciplines). Furthermore, the doctoral degree can be granted at 16 faculties, within 24 disciplines. In the Academic Year 2014/15, 27.000 students are educated at 17 faculties, and 65 branches of study, within either full-time or part-time studies. Additionally, there are also 600 doctoral candidates and 1500 post-graduate students. View full university

      4. Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art and Design in Wroclaw is a state university. It educates students on full-time studies and part-time studies in seven directions in four faculties. The School of Fine Arts in Wrocław exists as an academic center for over two hundred years. Because of the stormy nature of European history, the history of the School itself can be divided into many different periods. However, the clearest are the two periods: from its beginning at the end of 18 the century to the break of World War II, and from the end of the war to the present day. But even that division (into German and Polish school) is not very clear, because close connections between this school and Polish artists and culture existed from the very beginning. After the war that factor had a strong influence on both the program and the directions of education in the new Academy rebuilt here. The first Rector of the school established by the Prussian king Friedrich Wilhelm II in 1791, was Carl O. Bach. He was appointed by Polish prince, general Ogiński. All succeeding Rectors and great professors contributed to the school's European standing and tradition. Among them were: Hans Poelzig, August Eddell, sculptor Teodor van Gosen, architect Max Berg, Fryderyk Pautsh (later also a professor of Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow), Otto Mueller (from "Die Brücke" group), Oscar Moll (a student of Matisse) and finally the Academy's graduate, outstanding Polish artist-Jan Cybis. The time of Nazism and World War II became a tragic break in the school's existence (Oscar Moll was the last Rector back then). In 1945, almost immediately after the end of the war, the rebuilding of the Academy began. Eugeniusz Geppert, a great painter, and teacher from Cracow become the first Polish Rector. The following artists (together with many others) were among the forerunners of the school: Stanisław Dawski (graphic artist), Leon Dołżycki and Emil Kucha (painters), Julia Kotarbińska (ceramic artist), Borys Michałowski (sculptor), and Władysław Wincze (interior designer). Teaching directions and courses which started at that time corresponded to the needs of the Lower Silesia. Thus the emphasis was put on ceramic and artistic glass. The graphics, painting, and sculpture departments were open a little later, based on the experiences of Cracow, Warsaw, and Lviv Academies. Finally, close to the tradition of "Bauhaus" and "Ład", the departments of interior design and design of industrial forms were created. The same departments form the present structure of the Academy. The right choice of the directions of education, together with a great number of artistic and didactic achievements gathered through the years, have built the Academy's position as an art center not only in Poland but also in the European community. Every year more and more students and faculty members take part in international exchange, and the number of artistic awards brought by them from abroad grows constantly. Thanks to the efforts of the authorities and the school teachers the scope of training students in various departments is continuously expanded. Until recently the direction of Conservation and restoration of works of art in the specialization of conservation and restoration of ceramics and glass, the direction of Art Media Arts Mediation or direction was created. In 2001 the renovated wing of the Academy at. Modrzewski, and in 2012 a new building called the Centre for Applied Arts and Innovation Centre, which serves as a teaching workshop, was opened. The building is equipped with the latest technology and workshop equipment in 9 laboratories and 42 classrooms. View full university

        Özyeğin University

Hüsnü M. Özyeğin Foundation began its efforts to found Özyeğin University in the autumn of 2005. The foundation of Özyeğin University entailed a comprehensive study that involved more than 500 persons, including businessmen, faculty members, as well as university and high school students, in addition to a study entitled "Developing Sectors and Professions in Turkey and the World." Taking the results of these studies as a baseline, the university's core values and vision are discussed and identified in collaboration with all stakeholders in line with the design efforts carried out by ARAMA. Participating in Management Consultancy. As such, Özyeğin University started to shape its vision through a series of workshops held with more than 300 participants, including business people, faculty members, university students, and new graduates.
      13. The main goal of the Muthesius University in Kiel is to promote art, design, and spatial strategies via research and development projects as a focal point for work and intellectual debates. As the only art university in the State of Schleswig-Holstein, the Muthesius is a place to develop culturally relevant biographies and its project studies and a place of careful experimentation and realization. To a certain extent, the Master's program profile represents study courses and development possibilities for students unique in the Federal Republic of Germany. At the center of Muthesius University's focus is art and design, the creative and productive. Around this center, there revolves the fundamental relationship between theory and practice. This reciprocal relationship is a permanent process, a circular movement around the center held by art and design. It needs free space to move. Thus, the first condition for art and design at our university is freedom! To study at the Muthesius is the desire to use this freedom to mature into an equally creative and productive personality. In this way, we can provide our students with personal biographies", promises President Dr. Arne Zerbst. Around 580 study places are currently spread across the study courses in Fine Arts, Fine Arts for Secondary School Teachers, Spatial Strategies, Communication Design, and Industrial Design. Training and education at the Muthesius are project-oriented. Students are encouraged early to gain experience with real clients. The Project Office, the Publication Office, and the Centre for Media are interdisciplinary departments that help students complete their projects successfully. By participating in the excellence clusters, Muthesius University is one of the internationally visible and competitive research institutes contributing to Germany's sustainability. Numerous cooperation partners at local, national, and international levels appreciate Muthesius University's interdisciplinary structure and the personal atmosphere of the class sizes of a maximum of 20 students – an excellent basis for discourse leading to innovation. Studying at Muthesius University is divided into modules. Each module deals with a superordinate theme in different forms. Many cover two terms. Students learn the fundamentals, which are taught in practical courses, introductory workshop courses, and so-called basic courses. These are followed by lectures, practical courses, projects, and seminars. The professors present overviews of the themes in lectures. Seminars, practical courses, and projects increase the understanding of the content of the themes. The students work on themes independently and present them to the group.
      14. A unique combination of artistic, design, and theoretical subjects, makes studying at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design enormously varied and exciting for professional careers in the future. With communication design, product design, media art, exhibition design, and scenography, as well as art research, media theory, and media philosophy, the university present itself as an art school of a particular type that has increasingly developed since the early 1990s in Europe, the United States, and Japan. Common to all courses is the inter-disciplinary project work practiced from the beginning, allowing for an ideal combination of theory and praxis that reflects the university's teaching concept. The cooperation with neighboring ZKM | Center for Art and Media underlines the interdisciplinary focus of the school. Internationally renowned professors and artists ensure excellent teaching while maintaining its international profile. Well-equipped studios and workshops guarantee a highly innovative environment for the nurture of experimentation. A prominent feature of the university is the building itself. The school is housed in a former industrial building together with ZKM. The atriums, light bridges, and adjoining rooms offer unique spaces for events and exhibitions. At present, the university offers its circa 400 students excellent studying conditions and still offers Diplom or Magister degrees – one of the few in Germany to do so still. With these internationally recognized certificates and a wide range of project-based courses, graduates are prepared to an optimum standard after their academic studies for their professional requirements. On January 28, 2008, the German Council of Science and Humanities awarded Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design for its excellent educational concept after a comprehensive evaluation. The council especially highlighted its ability to innovate, its flexibility, and its students, colleagues, and teachers' social competence. It also praised the exceptional range of courses on offer with which the school was able to establish itself as a leading education and research center. The modern organizational structure of the school and the numerous cooperations with international educational institutions – particularly with neighboring ZKM | Center for Art and Media – were also acknowledged. The university takes this excellent evaluation above all as an obligation for the future. It had become evident by the eighties in Europe that economics, politics, and art would no longer be built on traditional industries, ideological rhetoric, and aesthetics. The legendary eight-volume report on the German government commission for the expansion of technical communications (KtK) was published in 1974 – three years earlier, the Japan Computer Development Institute had coined the term information society for political strategy and stated this as their "national goal" for the year 2000. The Paris exhibition "Electra," conceived by Prague-born Frank Popper and "Les Immatériaux" realized by the French philosopher Jean-François Lyotard was late but unmistakable a re-thinking for the drivers and operators as well as the poets and thinkers in post-modern society. New working and production methods required new thought cultures. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) founded its artistic research platform in 1967, the Center for Advanced Visual Studies (CAVS), founded by the Hungarian artist Györgi Kepes. Since February 2016, together with the council of the state university of arts and design, we have taken on the challenge to open up a perspective for students that will cater to the educational needs of new generations of students and creators, and that will keep surprising for the decades to come. We are working on a new program that integrates the diverse perspectives of design, art, and theory with a foundation year for all and a stunning post-graduate conclusion at the end of the studies.
      15. We teach communication as an ongoing challenge of combining today and tomorrow. Visionary projects enable future-focused thinking, action, and design. We observe the changes in perceptions and the acceleration of communication processes against a background of socio-economic and technological opportunities. We'reWe is designing the media use of tomorrow, today. More input, more practice, more opportunities, more hours, more breadth and subjects, more skills. We teach using professional technology and software at current agency standards. We teach lighting techniques, photography, film and AV media, video, and cutting techniques in recording studios. In our model-making studio, we develop form studies digitally and as real proportion studies for packaging and space design. We combine strategic knowledge of marketing communication with design-based communication design opportunities using all communicative channels and disciplines. We hone students' perceptions of social, economic, and cultural contexts and go far beyond the traditional syllabus. We discover, respect, and encourage the potential of each student. We impart specialist, social, and creative skills through ongoing feedback processes and individual support. One of our main aims is to support critical self-reflection. The course is aimed at the current demands of professional practice in assignment-related communication. The basis for this is a scientifically-orientated qualification. We look at the continually growing demands on graduates in the professional world. We promote creativity and the drive to experiment to keep up with the rapid shift in communication conditions. Our teachers are highly trained professors and lecturers from agencies, publishing houses, science, research, and creative industries, working in close collaboration. Practice and projects are combined in teaching. This concept of study reflects our understanding of teaching. The academic board at the design Akademie berlin announced, during its session on 24 July 2013, the following rules for "ensuring food scientific practice" following the recommendations of the German Research Foundation (DFG). In Berlin alone, around 2,500 companies are up for succession every year. The joint research project "Innovative learning and communication concepts for company succession" (LUKU) from the Institute for Entrepreneurship, Mid-tier and Family companies (EMF), the Berlin University of Economics and Law (HWR), and the Marketing Communication department at the design Akademie berlin intends to increase awareness of the topic of company succession among the public and with companies affected. This project, led by Prof. Dr. Birgit Felden, is funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) and the Berlin Senate Administration for Economy, Technology, and Research (SenWTF). Within the framework of this project, researchers from the EMF Institute at the Berlin University for Economy and Law (HWR) and students from the design Akademie berlin and SRH University for Communication and Design will provide collaboration to design and develop innovative and challenging media on the topic of company succession and will publish this via several channels. The term "media" is a broad concept here (wikis, web presences, films, short spots, print motifs, campaign strategies, claims, and many more) and should enrich the topic of company succession, which has often been communicated less innovatively, using creative design employing all currently available techniques. Many Berlin partners have been involved in this project. These include the Berlin Initiative for Company Succession (comprising the Berlin chambers HWK and IHK, the Berliner Bank, Berliner Sparkasse, and Berliner Volksbank) and several regional KMUs from different industries. The Master'sMaster course opens up new prospects for graduates and professionals from all marketing communication and communication management industries. Graduates work as product or brand managers, marketing leaders, consultants, conceptions, or planners. The Master'sMaster's program prepares designers for developing strategic approaches for finding solutions to complex problems. You will take on leading roles in strategy, design, and brands of the creative and innovation industries on the job market. The Master Program Strategic Design is located at the interface between innovation management, brand strategy, and creative processes management. In the course of study, strategic thinking skills are trained around branding, innovation, and design processes. Designers are thus enabled to use design not as a mere decoration or for surfaces but as a strategic resource for processes and companies. Students are trained in methods and theories of corporate and brand management, design thinking, social design, transformation design, system thinking, critical thinking, and strategic participation. They learn user-centered research, focused synthesis, and systematic development of ideas. They dealt with creativity techniques, business models, sustainability, as well as intercultural communication. Soft skills such as presentation strength and your leadership style are specifically promoted through specially designed teaching units. The imparting of scientific work methods creates the prerequisite for the preparation of a Master'sMaster's Thesis in the fourth semester of study. The lecturers of the design Akademie berlin provide scientific-theoretical input, supplemented by practical project work and workshops. By sharing and collaborating with students from other disciplines and cultures, you will acquire the ability to move into interdisciplinary design and design teams. Innovation is the common thread that runs through ways of thinking, working methods, and topics. In the study, it is about understanding technological and social innovations and being able to think about them holistically and strategically shape them for the future. One strength of the program is its practical relevance. In the Master program Strategic Design, all teachers are experts in their subject area and teach in companies or agencies. They effectively apply what they have learned in project-oriented studies, often even directly developing new business fields of existing companies and institutions. Visits to Berlin-based companies and institutions that implement branding, strategic design, and social innovations in their business processes are also integral parts of the curriculum. With this practical relevance, you can already get valuable impressions during your studies, make contacts, and get an excellent connection to the professional world of strategic design.

It is renowned internationally and can boast well-equipped studios and workshops for almost all technical and craft processes. The standard course duration in the Art faculty is ten semesters. The course of study leads to a ‘Diplom’ degree in fine art. The Design faculty offers bachelor’s and master’s courses. Bachelor’s courses at Burg Giebichenstein take eight semesters and lead to a B.A. degree. A follow-on master’s course takes two semesters, while a master’s program in a different design discipline generally takes four semesters. In all courses, intensive training in fundamental skills and elements from design/art studies are always part of the curriculum alongside the study of the respective major discipline. The master’s courses at Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design are directed at graduates of bachelor’s or ‘Diplom’ courses with an artistic/design emphasis. All applicants have to take a course-specific entrance test. Interested graduates of other disciplines who have relevant qualifications may also be admitted to a master’s course after taking this test. Most courses also require proof of relevant practical placements or comparable practical experience along with this test. The objective of every master’s course is the preparation of an individual master’s thesis. Upon successful completion of this thesis, students receive the title of Master of Art. The duration of the course is flexible and depends on the number of semesters of the degree previously completed: the duration can range from a two-semester course (if applicants have a four-year bachelor’s degree in the same subject with 240 ECTS credits or a comparable ‘Diplom’ degree) to a four-semester course (if applicants have a three-year B.A. degree or ‘Diplom’ degree in the same subject, or for graduates of other artistic/design disciplines or other areas).

      18. Industrial design is a strategic problem-solving process applicable to products, systems, services, and experiences, which results in innovation, business success, and a better quality of life.” (Definition of the World Design Organisation, 2015) Design is a creative activity to be practiced within a professional and well-structured framework. The qualities acquired throughout training courses must meet the requirements and expectations of likely employers: well-behavior, organizational skills, resourcefulness, and practical skills. Those qualities must serve the talent and creativity of young professionals. For ten years now, it has proactively followed an outward-looking international development policy: academic exchange programs participation in the international association Cumulus the opening of the China Studio in Shanghai and the India Studio in Delhi several international MDes programs organized in English a preparatory class for the master’s year dedicated to French-speaking international students L’École de design Nantes Atlantique is an active member of various academic networks and professional organizations: Conférence des Grandes Écoles (top-tier French higher education institutions), COMUE (Higher Education and Research Clusters) of the Universities of Nantes, Angers and Le Mans... For many years, its students have been awarded prizes in prestigious competitions. The successful careers pursued by our graduates are acceptable proof of the quality of our teaching methods. 25% of our young graduates in 2016 are pursuing international careers. They have headed for eight destinations: the United States, China, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Canada, Singapore. This openness to the international market can be explained by several factors: the opportunity to study MDes Transcultural Design in China or India, the obligation for students in their MDes program first year to follow a semester or an internship abroad in a foreign company or agency. We also notice that 29% of graduates are still abroad one year after graduating, 26% are employed in the West of France, 40% in Île de France, and 34% in the other regions of France.

      23. Quality management is the foundation of Laurea's operations and a tool for continuous improvement. As different monitoring and development measures, it is linked to all Laurea UAS and, therefore, a part of the organization's management, strategic work, and internal performance management. Quality management aims to maintain Laurea's quality culture and develop it further. All members of the Laurea community and the key stakeholders participate in the development of quality. The basis for the quality management system in Laurea UAS is the cycle of continuous improvement: Plan – Do – Check – Act. The following philosophy realizes the cycle of continuous improvement in Laurea: Plan refers to operational planning. Do refer to the description of processes and acting by them. The check refers to operational monitoring and evaluation using set indicators. Act refers to the implementation and documentation of development measures selected based on monitoring, evaluation, and feedback data and monitoring the effectiveness of these measures. The aims of Laurea's quality management system include To produce information that supports management and the achievement of Laurea's strategic goals and strategic intent, To systematically produce operational data that supports quality improvement To standardize quality management procedures and methods and to improve their efficiency To enhance the quality culture of Laurea UAS and the participation of Laurea community members in quality work To support the spreading of acceptable practices nationally and internationally. A higher education institution's quality policy refers to the quality system's goals and fundamental principles and the delegation of responsibilities for quality management. The goal of the quality policy in Laurea UAS is to support Laurea's values, strategic intent, and strategic goals. The quality policy promotes continuous improvement of the operations in line with the strategy. A process of integration occurs between the quality system of Laurea UAS and the management system, where the Operating and Financial Plans (OFPs), in which the strategy is translated into practical terms, form a link between the two systems. From the beginning of 2015, key goals and development targets have been recorded in the Operating and Financial Plans (OFPs) at the institution's level as a whole and its profit centers. Laurea has engaged in ongoing and goal-oriented development work. A Strategy Implementation Plan, which steers Laurea's operations and quality work, was drafted for the first time in 2005. A uniform quality management system was created for Laurea UAS in 2006–2007. The international evaluation was launched in 2008, and the importance of international evaluation to operational development has increased since that time as internationalization targets were introduced for education, research, and development. As evidence of Laurea's quality culture, the Laurea quality guarantee system passed the FINHEEC audit in 2010. The quality management process in Laurea UAS is based on the PDCA cycle and the principle of continuous improvement. The purpose of quality work is to support the achievement of Laurea's strategic intent in 2020. "Laurea aims to be an international developer of well-being and competitiveness of the Helsinki Metropolitan area in 2020." The agreement informs operational planning concluded between Laurea UAS and the Ministry of Education and Culture for 2013-2016. Similar agreements are concluded at four-yearly intervals. They contain the targets set for Laurea's operations, including degree numbers and indicator targets. An agreement on how to target achievement will be monitored and how the operations will be developed. The Laurea level targets are translated as goals for individual profit centers recorded in each profit center's Operating and Financial Plan. The operations of Laurea UAS are described using operating models and process descriptions. The purpose of the process is to standardize Laurea's operating methods and clarify the organization's delegation of work and responsibilities. The process descriptions can, for example, be utilized as familiarisation material. Precise definitions of the process stages, a delegation of work, tasks, and responsibilities also support development work. Functions and services are also being harmonized and developed to meet the needs of the organisation's activities. Key documents, including the Rules of Procedure, the Degree Regulations, the Project Manual, and the LBD Manual, provide practical operations guidelines and support uniform practices. Laurea UAS are evaluated utilizing internal and external evaluations and information collected through the feedback system. The evaluation focuses on targets of strategic importance. Target achievement is monitored using indicators defined in the Operating and Financial Plans. The indicators to be monitored are based on the performance agreement with the Ministry of Education and Culture, the Laurea2020 strategy, and the funding model. The monitoring, evaluation, and development data in the quality management system are described in the Laurea QPR portal. The operations are evaluated at the Laurea level, part of the FUAS co-operation, and at the national level.
