The functions of Kemi-Tornio University of Applied Sciences and Rovaniemi University of Applied Sciences merged on 1 January 2014 to form Lapland University of Applied Sciences. The University of Applied Sciences has four fields of expertise: Social Services, Health, and Sports, with administrative headquarters in Rovaniemi Business and culture, with administrative headquarters in Tornio Travel and tourism, with administrative headquarters in Rovaniemi Industry and natural resources, with administrative headquarters in Kemi Each field of expertise includes several educational and research areas where we carry out our mission to provide vocationally oriented university education and conduct research, development, and innovation work that mainly serves Lapland. The Lapland UAS quality policy lays a foundation for exemplary quality work. Everyone is responsible for the quality of his/her actions and makes sure to follow the standard rules and guidelines. The quality policy is based on the following principles, The management and supervisors of the university of applied sciences are committed to quality work and developing the operations. Our operations are based on taking into account the needs of our students and key interest groups and establishing partnerships worth their trust. We monitor the realization of the strategic objectives of our operations. We regularly evaluate our operations. As part of the evaluation, we specify the development targets based on which we develop our operations. Our personnel is highly qualified and competent. Our partnerships support the development of competence and learning. Our operations are led by good governance and are adequately documented. We deal with the feedback we receive responsibly. The feedback lays a foundation for learning and developing the operations. We regularly take part in external evaluations. We inform our various interest groups regularly about the results of our operations. The owners of Lapland UAS ltd are the town of Rovaniemi, the town of Kemi, Tornio, and the Kemi-Tornionlaakso Municipal Education and Training Consortium Lappia, the Rovaniemi Municipal Federation of Education and the University of Lapland. The new organization's home in Rovaniemi and the town of Kemi chairs the board. The Lapland UAS quality system supports the achievement of the principles of the quality policy by clarifying and developing the general procedures and processes of the university of applied sciences and monitoring the results essential to its operations. The quality system is based on the Common Assessment Framework (CAF) model. The CAF model enables the understanding of the cause-and-effect relationships between strategies, processes, and results. Using the PDCA (plan-do-check-act) cycle, on the other hand, illustrates the continuous improvement at all levels of the organization and in all processes. The operations of Lapland UAS are based on an enhancement-oriented evaluation that helps identify the strengths, ethical practices, and development targets in the operations. The security policy of the Lapland University of Applied Sciences outlines the general goals safeguarding security, operating principles, and responsibilities in the security operations. The Lapland University of Applied Sciences is a nationally recognized expert in the Arctic and Nordic security conditions. National and international security partnerships are built by networking. The Lapland University of Applied Sciences develops and maintains security, which has been selected as one of the university's strategic focal points. Customer-oriented operations are used to respond to the different security needs and promote everyday security in our operations and operating environment. The focus points of the security work are ensuring the smooth functioning of the studying and working environment, including creating a positive security culture through proactive security thinking and risk identification and management. The starting point is to anticipate accidents and dangerous situations and to prevent them as efficiently as possible. The anticipation and positive communications also strengthen the security experienced by the students, personnel, and visitors. The security work of the Lapland University of Applied Sciences that abides by the responsibility principles promotes the well-being of the students and personnel, the quality and effectiveness of the teaching, research and development activities, and the university's competitiveness of applied sciences. Initially established in 1979 to provide higher education opportunities for those living in the far reaches of northern Finland, the University has now become an important educational institution for the entire country. The University of Lapland has turned out every fourth lawyer, every third university-educated expert in art and design, close to ten percent of the social scientists, and many talented educational professionals here in Finland.
