About Me

  1. With a history of excellence and a focus on the future, the United States Air Force Academy instills cadets with pride and integrity while preparing them to serve their country and succeed in 21st-century careers. As a public university and a military service academy, we lead the way into an increasingly complex future, driving advancement and innovation in air, space, and cyberspace, among countless other fields. Whether you come to Colorado Springs for the world-class education, military training, Division I athletics, or character-building challenge and adventure, one thing is sure, the Academy experience—more than 60 years in the making—is unlike any other. The United States Air Force Academy does not just graduate cadets. It produces the Nation’s best leaders of character. From the application process to the first day of Basic Cadet Training, the Academy seeks out and trains cadets to adhere to qualities of moral excellence to final exams. At the United States Air Force Academy, our rigorous academic program balances Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) with the arts and humanities. Our robust core curriculum places cadets at these disciplines' intersection, generating opportunities to cultivate and apply creative and complex problem-solving abilities. This challenging yet rewarding academic program continues to garner national recognition. We offer 27 majors and four minors, unique research opportunities, and a variety of post-graduate scholarships. Our faculty and staff are dedicated to developing cadets as officers and scholars, stoking intellectual curiosity, and committing lifelong learning. This academic program is woven into the Academy's broader fabric and its programs in character and leadership development, athletics, and airmanship. Academy graduates are well-equipped with the knowledge, skills, and responsibilities necessary to serve the Air Force and the Nation as character leaders. Here at the Air Force Academy, we are committed to meeting the highest ideals of a broad, liberal education while also providing our cadets with the best possible preparation for a lifetime of service to the Nation. Achieving this balance is one of the most unique and critical contributions of the Air Force Academy to the officer corps. No other commissioning source can create the collaborative blending of rigorous academics, military training, character and leadership development, and competitive athletics than what defines the four-year experience cadets have at the Air Force Academy. Nowhere is the Academy’s commitment more evident than in the Core Curriculum, which all cadets are required to complete. As part of the Core, all cadets, regardless of academic major, complete 29 Dean of Faculty courses across a variety of academic disciplines while also engaging in military training programs, participating in seminars and symposia offered by our Center for Character and Leadership Development, and completing required Physical Education courses offered by our Director of Athletics. Importantly, these diverse programs are purposefully integrated to create a one-of-a-kind four-year experience that prepares our cadets to serve as commissioned officers in the greatest Air Force in the world. There are two libraries in the United States Air Force Academy Library (DFLIB) system that support faculty and staff, cadets, and other patrons of the Academy—McDermott Library and the Base Library. There are many cutting-edge learning centers, historical relics, and outdoor retreats to explore at the United States Air Force Academy. Each contributes to the unique experiences had by our visitors, cadets, faculty, and more. Visit our renowned, all-faiths Cadet Chapel, with its towering spires reaching 150 feet in the air, or sneak a peek at Polaris Hall, home to our new Center for Character and Leadership Development. Head over to Falcon Stadium to catch a game or attend a STEM outreach event at one of our 19 research centers. Whether you are here as a visitor, cadet, or staff member, one thing is sure, the Academy experience—decades in the making—is unlike any other. Research is a staple of our educational program, with increasingly diverse interdisciplinary programs encompassing more than 20 research centers and institutes. The research significantly enhances the cadet learning experience by providing rich, independent learning opportunities and fostering the critical thinking skills necessary to succeed as leaders in the Air Force and beyond. The United States Air Force Academy is the No. 1 funded undergraduate research institution in the country, according to a survey conducted by the National Science Foundation. Also, Forbes recently named the Academy the No. 5 Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) school. Our research program is fueled by partnerships, with 19 centers and two institutes, cadets, faculty, and industry all working together to benefit tomorrow’s, Air Force. As aviation advanced after the Wright Brothers’ first flight, the Nation’s military aviation service followed a constantly growing lineage from 1907 to 1947. Officials discussed establishing an aeronautical academy for decades, and when the Air Force became a separate service in 1947 under the National Security Act, plans for an Air Force Academy officially got underway.

  8. A Don Bosco institution is a dynamic and co-educational school serving the needs of students since 2002. One enjoys a friendly, caring, and safe environment where everyone is made welcome. The school was founded by the Salesians of Don Bosco, dedicated to the education of youth. The Salesian’s daily presence in school life enriches the overall development of each student. We consider each child to be a special member of our school community, each of them has something to offer whether it be a friendly smile, sporting abilities, or academic abilities. We value each child for their individual qualities. Every child is proud to proclaim. We now know that we are vulnerable. We now know that the threats of terror are no longer half a world away. We now know things change and not always for the better. We now know that evil exists. So the question is, how can we live triumphantly in a terror-stricken world? And amid all the chaos, we must find a way to stand and to carry on. All of us have problems. But one way or another we learn to overcome the darkness and get along with life. The darkness surrounding us now seems so much more. Men blowing themselves up in a concert hall or going on a rampage shooting people down irrespective of their color, race, or religion. That is darkness of a different dimension. We do not live on a playground. We live on a battlefield. We are soldiers in a great cosmic war between good and evil. The question asked is what shall we do? How will we go on? How do we live triumphantly in this new reality that has come among us? We need to rebuild our faith in God. And hope for the best. Because hope is to the soul what oxygen is to the body-absolutely essential for survival. People of hope, those who believe in God’s tomorrow, can live better today. Those who expect joy to come out of sadness, strength to come from weakness, new life to arise out of the ashes of the old, are the people who discover God to be a present help in times of trouble. ‘We are born for greater things’ and hence our role in this world must go far beyond us simply taking care of ourselves. We cannot live by hate we need to fill our lives with love. Loving people are healthier people, happier people, and more helpful people than those who allow themselves to sink into the deep pits of rage, revenge, and hate.
  9. We believe that all individuals can improve and learn. All people develop at different rates and have expertise in a wide range of subject areas with unique learning styles. Our program focuses professional attention on each student and challenges them to achieve their maximum potential. The whole child is our focus and learning and academic achievement form a significant part of the development of a loving, compassionate, healthy, and thoughtful world citizen. Assessment of this learning takes a variety of forms. Formative assessment through daily learning work, class participation and discussion, classroom learning activities, and peer interactions occupy a significant part of creating a child’s learning profile. Summative assessment is made in the form of tests, quizzes, projects, presentations, and exams. It helps in determining specific content knowledge, concept mastery, and ability to apply knowledge. Throughout the curriculum, we focus on the ability to communicate understandings, apply knowledge to novel situations, and solve problems. All children develop at their pace-a a pace we accelerate for all students when they are ready. We don’t believe single sittings of examinations should judge the future of children. Our rigorous approach to learning ensures that we view children and learning as works in progress rather than “snapshots” of a singular endeavor. We are unique in this adventure of learning. This school is committed to continuous improvement. We hire only the most qualified of teachers and seek students and families to join our community who are committed to the development of the whole child. Our school to a large extent accomplishes this with a larger perspective of education. Our philosophy is of reducing pressure and retaining a student’s hopes and self-esteem, without which education loses its purpose. At our school, students are not competing with each other but with themselves by constantly raising their expectations and successfully achieving those targets. This makes them not only highly “individual driven” but also sensitive to other’s failures, a very important factor that shapes them into fine human beings. Our school nurtures the tangible and intangible strengths of each student, carefully preparing them to face the challenges of a competitive world. We trigger their curiosity and encourage them to step into unfamiliar grounds without fear. This gives a student an edge over their peers, as they are taught not to fear failure and that failure is an important step towards achievement. We make learning an enjoyable experience that can never be forgotten but provides points of reference in one’s future. The mission of Learners Own Academy is to develop each child to his or her fullest potential, spiritually, intellectually, and physically, that each may grow in grace, enjoy freedom through knowledge, and lead a healthy, productive and meaningful life. To integrate academic excellence, community spirit, and healthy lifestyle to create an environment that inspires a child to learn to his/her ability. To make Learners Own Academy a community of people which includes the students, parents, faculty, and staff, who have a great love for God, love for neighbor, and a love for learning. To express warmth, empathy and concern, and respect for life. To lead children to knowledge and experience the love for learning. Active participation in class and activities of the school. Our multipurpose indoor sports complex is almost ready with a football ground, two basketball grounds, eight badminton courts, two Tennis courts, two volleyball courts, three-lane tracks, and plenty of swings in the play area for our Tiny Tots. The formal inaugural ceremony of the sports complex will take place in November.
  10. Welcome to Gulf British Academy, a co-educational primary school with ages ranging from Pre-KG to Year 6. 13. The American Academy for Girls is part of the Al-Jeel Al-Jadeed Educational Institute founded in 1964. The institute began with one school, the Al-Jeel Al-Jadeed School in Hawally, and was later joined by the Nasser School in Salmiya in 1969. These two schools were joined in 1993 by The English Academy in Jabriya, the first school in Kuwait to take the title ‘Academy’. Following the founding of these three schools, the board then turned its attention to a very different and very exciting project, the proposal being to establish a school based on the American educational system, to help the young women of Kuwait achieve their true educational potential. This was the birth of the American Academy for Girls, a truly proud moment. AAG was awarded dual accreditation by the European Council of International Schools (ECIS) and the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA) in the year 2001. It was a major accomplishment for a school so young to be awarded dual accreditation only six short years after its inception. The Al-Jeel Al-Jadeed Educational Institute continues to be a pioneering spirit in educational initiatives in Kuwait, a reputation the board is extremely proud to have and maintain. The American Academy for Girls is a private, single-gender school, which provides an American-style education crafted to meet Kuwait educational requirements and encourages students in their pursuit of academic excellence. AAG’s high-quality and integrated early childhood program provides a safe and nurturing environment while promoting the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development of young children. It is designed to foster our young students a lifelong love of learning. We strongly believe that all children should be allowed to experience the very best possible start to their education. Through various developmentally appropriate activities, we will help to ensure that your daughter enjoys her learning environment and continues to flourish during her school years in the future and beyond. The Early Childhood Education Department consists of three divisions: Pre-KG, KG1, and KG2. English Language Arts, Math, Health Education, Social Studies, Science, Arabic, and Islamic Religion are all the subjects taught in the department. The Common Core States Standards (CCSS) are used for English and Math. The American Educators Reach Out (AERO) standards are used for Science and Social Studies. Specialty teachers instruct the students in Library, Physical Education (PE), Art, and Music.

At TEA we enjoy the luxury of spacious classrooms allowing teachers to provide for your children’s needs in a safe and secure learning environment. We aim to deliver a curriculum that is respected throughout the world whilst providing students with numerous opportunities to gain experiences and responsibilities that will prepare them for life beyond school. We teach the National Curriculum of England and Wales, adapted as appropriate to our student's needs and experience. In the primary department, National Curriculum Literacy and Numeracy strategies are adopted and levels are used to support our assessment policies through all Key Stages. Furthermore, Year 10 and 11 students study for examinations in IGCSE and GCSE and on completion may enter the sixth form to study AS and A Levels respectively. TEA aims to provide a learning experience that will enable us to help students reach their potential academically, socially, and physically. In modern society change is perhaps one of the few certainties there is and, with this in mind, we aim to prepare our students for a life in a rapidly changing and increasingly competitive society. Young people at TEA are encouraged to become leaders within their community. The school stresses the importance of integrity, respect for others, and the right of every child to a learning environment absent of hindrance and disturbance. Students are encouraged to become independent learners while an emphasis is placed on the importance of local traditions and values the vision adopted at TEA is a globally connected one with a great deal of local relevance. The Vision of The English Academy is to be considered an outstanding school by SY 2018/19. This will be gauged through both the BSO accreditation standards and other generally accepted international education benchmarks. The Mission of The English Academy is to provide a learning experience that will encourage students to be successful learners, confident individuals, and responsible citizens with a global perspective. Successful students who enjoy learning. They will develop an understanding of their potential and a desire to achieve it. The curriculum will encourage them to become independent thinkers and decision-makers who are creative and critical. Confident students who can live a safe, healthy, fulfilling life and develop high self-esteem while respecting others. Responsible students who make a positive contribution to society. They will be encouraged to have respect and consideration for other people and the environment in which they live. Global students who value and appreciate their culture, religion, and language while taking full advantage of a diverse international education. The English Academy was opened in September 1993. Final approval was not received until April of that year, and much hard work was required to have the building ready for the 18th of September. An Arabic Private School that had not been used for three years was rented and work began. In the space of three short, hot months repairs were carried out, walls painted, wiring replaced, plumbing repaired, windows mended, furniture bought, staff recruited, books ordered, flowers planted and the English Academy was born awaiting only the arrival of the pupils.
  15. The American Creativity Academy is a private school that delivers a standards-based American curriculum within an environment in which Islamic values are respected and practiced. The school is dedicated to preparing students for university success. The American Creativity Academy (ACA) was founded in 1997 by a group of visionaries who wanted to establish a school in Kuwait which offered a unique blend of an American curriculum while respecting and practicing local values. We are fully accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. We were authorized to offer the IBDP in 2008. ACA is a growing and mixed physical entity. ACA operates on two separate campuses minutes apart by car in the suburb of Hawalli. Our student population is 100 % English Language Learners (ELL). The majority of our students have been born in Kuwait. Most of our students are Arab nationals and Arabic is their first spoken language. The students are expected to master both English and Arabic languages simultaneously. Our students are dedicated to the success and work hard towards achieving excellence. We are a college preparatory school and one hundred percent of our graduates are college-bound and attend universities around the world. The curriculum is American standards-based from KG to grade 12. We offer an Enrichment Program in grades 2 to 8 and an Honors Program in grades 9 and 10. Students entering grade 11 may choose to participate in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program or continue with the regular standards-based American education. Our school community consists of over 3,500 students and 350 staff members. Our students have achieved excellent results in sports, Ministry of Education competitions, interscholastic conferences, community activities, and overall academic success. We are a college preparatory school and have had 100% of our graduates attend universities around the world. The school year runs from September to June and has a minimum instructional period of 172 days divided into two semesters. A curriculum that is “standards-based” indicates specific criteria that define what students are expected to learn and be able to perform, and usually includes both content standards and performance standards. At ACA, the curriculum is always reviewed and revised. Each academic year, one subject area is subject to intense evaluation. Groups of specialized teachers and administrators work on updating the current curriculum in the selected subject, as well as the associated resources. By the end of the school year, there will be an updated curriculum for the particular subject. The other subjects are also under general review, to assess the need for development. By the end of each academic year, the curriculum can be modified using the information gathered. In September 2012, ACA purchased the Atlas software, which is used as a curriculum mapping tool. The software facilitates curriculum management to allow teachers more time in the classroom. Using this software allows the teachers to keep continuity in the students’ records for future reference. ACA has achieved full implementation of Atlas across all core and non-core subjects. The curriculum at ACA is alive, developing, and in continuous change. There is no time where we will have a perfect curriculum. By initiating reviews, the school will not wait for an external change to make modifications to the curriculum, on the contrary, the school updates the curriculum by looking at the changes around the world and technology.

The school’s academic results over several years. The school’s mission and philosophy and their compatibility with your child’s personality and family expectations. Administration and management’s reputation and achievements to ensure that your children are in good hands capable of caring for and educating them. The emphasis on Arabic language instruction, as proficiency in Arabic, will be a great advantage in your children’s lives and future careers. The emphasis on English language instruction and students’ English proficiencies since English is your child’s gateway to the world through technology, communication, and business. The level of investment the school provides in technology and its integration into education. The effectiveness of the offered academic programs in developing life-long learners. The emphasis on building students' character to ensure that they are ready for a complex and competitive life ahead. Amman Academy is authorized by the International Baccalaureate to implement the Primary Years Programme (PYP). The program is up to Grade 5 in two languages (Arabic and English). The PYP prepares students to become active, caring, lifelong learners who demonstrate respect for themselves and others and have the capacity to participate actively in the world around them. It focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer within the classroom and beyond. Our Kindergarten program at AA provides a safe and nurturing learning environment for our children. We are dedicated to the development of every child’s physical, social, intellectual, and cultural growth. We believe that student learning is best done when it is authentic and relevant to the real world. Within a stimulating, developmentally appropriate environment, we foster creativity and encourage children to become problem solvers. Children work together and make connections between what takes place in the classroom and their own lives. Through theme-based learning, our children are provided with activities to explore, experiment, and discover. Children are given opportunities to view the world from different perspectives and to adapt to change. To achieve the aim, Amman Academy works in parallel with the IB Learner Profile. This entails the attributes that PYP students need to have to interact effectively within their society. We want learners to acquire and apply a set of transdisciplinary skills that are valuable not only within the classroom environment but in life outside the academic arena as well. Amman Academy has been an authorized MYP school since 2013. Therefore, we are currently implementing the Middle Years Programme (MYP) in grades 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10. Amman Academy works in parallel with the IB Learner Profile, which entails the attributes that MYP students need to have to interact effectively within their society. Our aim is for learners to acquire and apply a set of skills that are valuable within the classroom environment and in real-life situations outside the academic arena as well. Amman Academy has been an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School since 2006 when we were authorized to begin teaching the IB Diploma Programme. Founded in 1968, the International Baccalaureate Organization is a non-profit educational foundation that centers on developing programs that help students thrive in the classroom and connect their knowledge to the world around them.

Students are motivated to excel academically with the ABEKA curriculum. Every teacher at Zion is passionate, dedicated, and enthusiastic about each student in their classroom. Our teachers here at Zion share a common goal to teach, model, and encourage each student to excel academically, to think both independently and critically, and to discover and refine their gifts to be able to positively affect the world around them. Through cultivating a desire to learn, we hope to build such characteristics as Integrity, Courage, Determination, Excellence, Accountability, Discipline, and Loyalty. Zion desires to keep each class smaller, to allow its teachers to get to know each student on an individual basis. This gives the teacher further insight and guidance into how to appropriately help each student. Zion Christian Academy utilizes the ABEKA BOOK curriculum. Along with the ABEKA curriculum, we incorporate ACSI ( Association of Christian Schools International ) materials, as well as approved text from Harcourt-Brace, Wright Group/McGraw-Hill, and other leading book publishers to keep our students informed with the current United States Educational ( Department of Education ) Standards. All subjects in all grades are taught by acceptable U.S. Department of Education expectations and standards. As Zion strives for excellence, some of our students may be enrolled in more advanced courses associated with ZCA and our secondary students will be challenged to take more demanding classes in our Direct Distance Learning Programs. Here at Zion, we look forward to serving you and your children. With our multicultural, caring environment we know that Zion is the best school for your child. 23. Kindergarteners are eager to explore, investigate and discover the world around them and a Princeton education can make a difference in how much they learn and grow. Our program introduces your child to a formal education while embracing the idea that every child is smart in his or her way. We strive to create a small, safe and secure environment that will provide your child with a real sense of belonging. Our Curriculum is aligned with the U.S. Department of Education's Common-Core Standards and exceeds the guidelines set forth by the US National Associations for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Our "8-SMART" Teaching method is based on the extensive research and theories of child development expert Dr. Howard Gardner, professor of education at Harvard University. Our private kindergarten program introduces your child to a formal education while embracing the idea that every child is smart in his or her way. We focus on meeting each child's developmental and educational needs. Children are guided and encouraged by our elite, experienced teachers, and advance through our program at their own pace. Because children learn best when they are actively involved, each classroom includes rich learning materials for exploring. Self-directed investigations and play build problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Our teachers supplement these experiences with small group activities that encourage socialization. We give children the foundations that prepare them for an International Elementary School setting and set them on a path of life-long learning and success. Whether enrolled full- or part-time, your child will benefit from Princeton Academy's exclusive kindergarten program. If you are a working parent and would like to use Princeton Academy's FREE Extended Childcare Service, we ask that you register your child as a member at the time of entrance to the school, or as soon as possible, thereafter. Space is very limited, and some restrictions do apply. NOTE: Non-Members are charged per hour at the regular rate. Princeton Academy's Little Miracles Program is a unique 3-hour weekday program for high-level Kindergarten and Elementary school-age students. This program covers a wide range of learning areas such as Language Arts, Dramatic play, Mathematics, Art, and Crafts. This Program is open to all students who have completed an International Preschool Program and are at a level equivalent to (or higher than) our Kinder-kids Program. The program is also open to non-PAIS students who are of an advanced English level. Native English-speaking children and Returnees from abroad are also welcome to join this course as a supplement to the child's current schooling. The Little Miracles program is a combination of study and plays activities. Like our Saturday School program, these activities allow children to learn and use correct grammatical English while they play. Your child will naturally improve his or her conversational skills by interacting with kids of all ages and all English levels. There are also foreign children from nearby International Schools who participate in our classes, from time to time, thus making our program more diverse than ever. During the lessons, we use workbooks to improve the academic level, and we have fun with hands-on activities such as arts and crafts, science experiments, games, and much, much, more. Our curriculum gives children the tools they need to grow and develop into the leaders of tomorrow. Along with a strong emphasis on mathematics and literacy skills, our program gives children a framework they can use throughout school - they learn to love learning!
  24. At KIU Academy, we believe that a western-style education that develops reasoning skills in conjunction with language skills is essential for those intending to survive and thrive in an international environment. However, the goal of developing effective communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills that transcend cultural differences poses a great challenge for the individual. Over the years, KIU Academy has helped many of its graduates obtain and polish these important skills. At the same time, we also believe that it is crucial that our graduates also learn to be independent thinkers and self-directed learners. As a result, many of our graduates have been accepted into a wide variety of colleges and universities around the world. Our curriculum is college-preparatory, but we believe that, besides helping students enter college, it is our responsibility to prepare them with the knowledge and skills necessary for life beyond academia. KIUA offers a practical bilingual education to both Japanese students and foreign students. We believe that we can best prepare students for life by educating them from a biblical perspective. With Biblical principles as their foundation, students will be ready to form their own set of values and make wise decisions. Enrollment age-grades 1-12. There is no discrimination due to religious preference. This number fluctuates year to year, but counting the returnee students with the foreigners brings the Japanese to foreign student average to about 50-50. The boys to girls ratio is also around 50-50. The boys to girls ratio is also around 50-50. Each student has a different language learning ability. At KIUA, students are exposed to an English daily, so, therefore, it is quite natural for students to learn English. However, the fluency they attain varies from student to student. A high percentage of KIUA graduates go to the United States for university. Students who desire to go to Japanese universities often take the Japanese equivalent of the GED exam. (Technically, KIUA students don't need to take this exam, but many universities, due to their lack of understanding, request this type of high school completion certification.) A majority of KIUA students live in Kyoto. However, others come from Osaka, Nara, Hyogo, and Shiga. Elementary school students are encouraged to ride the KIUA school bus from Shin Tanabe station.KIUA, despite being a small school, has 3 fields. Additionally, there is a small playground with play equipment behind the A building for lower elementary school students. KIUA rents local sports fields and a gym for sports such as softball, basketball, and other sports. We do not provide lunch. Students are asked to bring their lunches or they can get lunch through a catering service by requesting a lunch at the school office.KIUA, despite being a small school, has 3 fields. Canadian Academy

Founded in 1913, Canadian Academy is a private, co-educational day and boarding international school that provides an inspirational learning experience. We are an IBO World School offering all three of the Primary Years, Middle Years, and Diploma programs. Canadian Academy blends the local Japanese culture with elements from around the world - our students come from over 40 different countries. Canadian Academy's dormitory students range from 9th to 12th grade and come from North America, Europe, and Asia. Our campus is located in Kobe, Japan on Rokko Island. Canadian Academy is approved by the Japanese Ministry of Education, accredited by the US-based Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the Council of International Schools (CIS), and certified to award both the US high school and International Baccalaureate diplomas. Canadian Academy offers an advanced college preparatory education based on International Baccalaureate programs taught in English. In high school, students can take either the full Diploma Programme or certificates in individual Diploma courses. CA is authorized for both the Middle Years Programme (MYP), taught from grades 6 to 10, and the Primary Years Programme (PYP), taught from age three to grade 5. CA and the IB provide the transferable education that international students require. Canadian Academy's nine-acre campus is a purpose-built facility, opened in 1990 on Rokko Island in Kobe. CA's facilities include not only fully-equipped classrooms, science laboratories, multi-purpose rooms, a fitness center, and specialty teaching areas designed with the modern educational needs of the students in mind, but also two gymnasiums, and two theaters. CA is the center of students' daily lives. The school itself is ideally located in the residential area of Rokko Island, a modern urban center, which also boasts a hospital, parks, shops, restaurants, and other schools. The Early Learning and Activities Center (ELAC), opened in January 2008 enabling CA to more fully meet the growing academic and extracurricular needs of its international and multiage student body. ELAC contains specially designed classrooms on the first floor for our two- through five-year-old programs, as well as the P&G Black Box theater and a second gymnasium on the second floor. These facilities provide flexibility for the scheduling of a multitude of athletic and artistic events. The Herbert Norman Library and Media Center circles the school's central atrium and is a spacious facility located in the center of the school. Offering ample room and resources for research, independent study, and personal reading to students in grades 1-12, it is a hub of activity at the Canadian Academy. It houses more than 42,000 volumes in its collections, containing print, digital and audiovisual materials, accessible remotely through a fully automated catalog system. The library subscribes to numerous magazines, professional journals, daily newspapers, and several online databases. The early childhood library in the ELAC building services students in the Building Blocks program and kindergarten classes. It has a comfortable space for storytime and numerous picture books to check out. Technology is represented by a school-wide network of iPads & computers located in Technology Centers, mobile mini-labs, the library, and in every classroom. Canadian Academy also operates a one-to-one laptop program for all students from Grades 3 to 12. Specialist staff assists teachers to integrate computers into the curriculum. Our athletic facilities include two full-size gymnasiums, a fitness center with an aerobic zone, soccer fields (one artificially turfed), two tennis courts, and elementary school playgrounds. Canadian Academy boasts two beautiful theaters, the main building Theater and the P&G Black Box theater in ELAC. The P&G Black Box theater can be configured in any number of ways to accommodate smaller productions as well as unique types of events. Both theaters are equipped with professional-level sound and lighting control booths. The main theater seats almost 400 people and can serve as an exam site for 100 students. It is used for student performances in music (band, choir, and orchestra) and theater. It is also used for student assemblies and our High School graduation ceremonies. Visiting professional groups use either of these venues for community performances. Our modern cafeteria, with seating for 300 students, serves lunch to our school community. Breakfast and dinner are also available in the cafeteria for residents of the Gloucester House dormitory. Gloucester House, one of only a few international dormitories in Asia, consists of two separate living units (houses) and a recreation center. It provides a living option for students from outside the Kobe area. Each unit contains a kitchen, lounge, six student bedrooms, and three bathrooms. Besides modern accommodations for the students, each 12-student unit includes a dorm parent apartment so that a family relationship can grow among students and their resident advisors, who are also teachers at CA. Although self-reliance is expected, students share in communal tasks and follow rules that are designed to promote respect for each person's welfare and property. Canadian Academy is pleased to offer bus services for our families. This service supplements services offered by several housing communities as well as public transportation. Routes have been designed with attention to where families reside with consideration to bus maneuverability and traffic congestion. Service is available on a first-come, first-served service basis to students in KA through Grade 12!
