  1. The University of Liverpool has, since 1881, worked for the advancement of learning and ennoblement of life. This remains our mission today and will focus on all our efforts in the coming years as we strive to achieve our ambitions and aspirations, tackle the grand challenges of the age, and make our Vision a reality. We have laid down this direct challenge of where we want to be in 10 years' time, and now we must be just as clear on how we will get there. We start from a position of strength. As a connected, global University with multiple physical and virtual campuses – Liverpool, London, Suzhou, Singapore, and online – our worldwide influence and impact is unrivaled in higher education. Over the next decade, we will build on our internationally recognized strengths in research and scholarship and increase collaborative and inter-disciplinary working. We will continue to develop a high-quality environment in which to educate well-rounded, enquiring global citizens who connect and engage – through their learning, research, civic engagement, and inter-cultural understanding – with the world's most pressing problems. We will integrate teaching and research to ensure that we derive the maximum benefit from our rich environment of intellectual inquiry and challenge. The University values diversity. We are an inclusive institution committed to providing an opportunity for those with the capacity to benefit as individuals and as members of a wider community dedicated to a sustainable and just society. We will be guided by strong ethical principles and ensure that our values are embedded in our plans and actions. We will commit to a culture of continuous improvement and collaborative working, ensuring that we encourage and value staff and students' contributions to decision-making and foster good governance through a culture of openness and transparency. We respect differences and look for consistency and sharing of acceptable practices to ensure that fairness and equality of opportunity inform our organizational structures and processes. We will be confident and ambitious as we face future challenges, nurturing all our staff, and supporting their personal and professional development in an environment of constant change. We will acknowledge and reward contributions to achieving the highest possible standards in every aspect of our work. Our educational offer and world-leading research will be recognized regionally, nationally, and internationally as distinctively collaborative. We place the utmost value on partnership working. We will continue to shape a robust network of education and industry alliances, forging productive relationships worldwide, building capacity, and advancing knowledge. Our Vision is to be a connected, global University at the forefront of knowledge leadership, recognized by being in the top 100 worldwide. Your Strategy places our global activities at the center of our distinctive Vision for the future. With campuses in Liverpool, London, Suzhou, and Singapore, and as Europe's largest provider of wholly online postgraduate degrees, we have an excellent starting point. We will transform our University by building on our existing strengths and those aspects of our University that are genuinely unique. We aim to be world-leading in specific research areas and globally recognized in our research and impact activities. We will raise the profile nationally and internationally of our established knowledge leadership in Advanced Materials, Infectious Disease, and Personalised Health. We will clarify the synergy between teaching and research and the benefits to our students of studying a research-connected curriculum. By embedding internationalization in our teaching and extracurricular activities and creating exceptional connections to allow our students to study and work abroad, we will allow them to be global citizens. We will adapt and respond quickly to future challenges and opportunities presented by an ever more competitive external environment. Leadership empowered decision-making and collegiality will be at the heart of our organization, driving a culture of innovation as we seek to develop sector-leading services consistently across our multiple physical and virtual campuses. All of this can be achieved by delivering on the specific aims of our three supporting strategies. We will put ethics and integrity at the heart of our decision-making. We will work in partnership with our students to ensure their interests and aspirations to inform our activities. We will deploy our resources creatively and with care to maximize our positive impact locally, nationally, and internationally. We will develop a staff framework that sets out the employment offer and expectations for all our employees. We will work in partnership with our collaborators to ensure their interests and aspirations inform our activities. View full university

Liverpool Progressive School helps children towards a better future by providing the highest quality of education where inclusion, enrichment, and progression enable achievement for all children by focusing on their specific and complex needs. The curriculum is planned to promote individual and group learning opportunities via a full range of experiences and activities that are appropriate to each student’s age, entitlement, needs, abilities, and choice. Particular emphasis is placed on the National Curriculum, communication, and self-directed behavior strategies for a lifelong learning program. Wherever possible we aim to provide access and inclusion opportunities to mainstream education and other community-based leisure and social activities geared towards the promotion of independent living. Most students enter Liverpool Progressive School with a Statement of Special Educational Needs or Education, Health and Care Plan providing the basis for their Individual Education Plan and Individual Learning Plan. This is a tool by which the school establishes what and how targets are to be achieved. In addition to educational targets, other development parameters are set, monitored, and reviewed regularly. Liverpool Progressive School strives to promote the spiritual, moral, cultural, social, emotional, and physical development of all students in school and society. Through themed weeks a selected theme is threaded throughout the curriculum to promote and develop this entitlement. Our overarching aim at Liverpool Progressive School is to provide the highest quality education where inclusion, enrichment, and progression enable personal achievement for all students in preparation for the responsibilities, experiences, and opportunities of adult life (with appropriate levels of support). The Asian Award Scheme offers accredited programs of study that complement other curriculum areas, allowing opportunities to practice acquired skills and knowledge through practical and functional activities. New Horizons is an activity-based Asian program offered to KS3 (11-14) students providing structure, flexibility, and providing recognition for small steps of achievement. The contexts are set within and beyond school and support the delivery of Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship, and Careers educational targets. This program is appropriate for learners working between levels P1 – P8 in Key Stage 3. Transition Challenge is an Asian program suitable for Key Stage 4 (14-16) students. It provides a framework of activities developing and accrediting personal and independent living skills through areas relating to National Curriculum Key Stage 4 programs of study. This scheme is complemented by activities geared towards skills development necessary for adult living, as recommended by the Dearing Review. Towards Independence is an Asian program that has been developed for the adult learner (16-19). It offers formal recognition for small steps of achievement and modules can be accessed separately and accumulated to build up a profile. Personal Projects offer a way of combining classroom-based learning objectives in functional contexts. They are planned with students from 14+ years and include elements of Transition Action Plans, LA advice, ILP targets, hobbies, interests, work experience, spiritual and cultural events, and community access. 12. In 1823 a small institution was founded to revolutionize education in Liverpool and provide opportunities for the working people of the city. The Liverpool Mechanics Institute was founded by people of power and influence who recognized the transformative effects of education and the impact that learning and aspiration could have on individuals, communities, and society. It was the first such institution to be founded in England. This small, pioneering movement was followed by the establishment of the Liverpool Institute and School of Art and the Liverpool Nautical College, and in 1900 Irene Mabel Marsh opened the IM Marsh campus. Together, these organizations laid the foundations for Liverpool John Moores University, an institution that has grown and flourished and continues to provide opportunities for all. Today, with a vibrant community of 25,000 students from over 100 countries worldwide, 2,500 staff, and 250-degree courses, Liverpool John Moores University is one of the largest, most dynamic and forward-thinking universities in the UK. As a modern civic university, we are integral to the life of the city. However, we are also global in our approach, forging international partnerships to facilitate world-leading research and collaboration to tackle some of the massive global issues facing the modern world that have an everyday impact. As an institution, we are unashamedly ambitious – for our students, our staff, and the broader global community. Under the leadership of our Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive, Professor Nigel Weatherill, we are undergoing a renaissance as the strength of our teaching and research continues to exceed even our high expectations. We were one of the highest climbers nationally in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, which assesses the UK's quality of research. We are on an upward trajectory in the first UK league tables. Our student satisfaction scores increase year on year. All of this helps build on our solid reputation for providing students with the highest quality teaching and a learning experience informed by relevant, credible, and world-leading research. We acknowledge and celebrate our successes and achievements, but we never rest on our laurels. Continuing to improve and enhance the experience and opportunities offered to our students is the driving force for the whole University – our pioneering work in improving graduate prospects, our innovative approach to cultural partnerships, and our evolving student-focused campus are setting benchmarks for the essence of university life in the 21st century. We have an open and enthusiastic academic community operating in world-class facilities. Diversity is a valued endeavor that is supported, and achievement is celebrated. We will continue to provide our students with an exceptional experience and encourage our staff to push the boundaries of their professional and academic disciplines so that we can thrive in a world of endless possibilities and potential. We are an ambitious and forward-thinking institution that challenges convention and believes passionately in the concept of ‘One University’ – a community working together to achieve common student-centered objectives within a clear strategy. To be recognized as a modern civic university delivering solutions to the challenges of the 21st century. We believe in the power of education to drive transformation across social, cultural, and economic boundaries. We are innovative and progressive with an entrepreneurial spirit. We think creatively about new ways to do things. We strive for the highest standards in everything we do. We believe that by working together in partnership, we can achieve excellent and lasting results. We believe in leading the way, challenging convention, and breaking new ground. View full university
  13. The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts opened in 1996 to forge a new approach to performing arts training. It was co-founded by our Lead Patron Sir Paul McCartney and Mark Featherstone-Witty (LIPA's Principal) and is housed in his old school, which underwent a multi-million-pound renovation to transform it into a state-of-the-art performing arts higher education institution. Today LIPA is an acknowledged part of the UK's higher education provision for the performing arts, recognized and ranked alongside institutions a lot older. LIPA provides learning for the primary skills needed for putting on a show (performers and those who make performance possible), uniquely blending specialists, and generic skills. LIPA offers degree courses in Acting, Community Drama, Dance, Music Theatre and Entertainment Management, Music, Sound Technology, Theatre and Performance Design, and Theatre and Performance Technology. We also run full-time one-year Foundation Certificates in Performing Arts (Acting) Performing Arts (Dance) Performing Arts (Singing) and Popular Music and Sound Technology. We offer first-class facilities and invest around £500,000 each year to update or improve our learning environment. We have high-end performance and rehearsal spaces, with the technical kit which rivals what you'll find in the professional world. As you explore our courses, you can find out more about the facilities used by students in each course. Our teaching staff has worked with leading names across the performing and creative arts industries. We also employ part-time Visiting Professionals who are working where you want to be where you leave. You'll find our teaching staff profiles on each of the course pages, where you can find out more about their achievements and how they could support your development. On top of this, we welcome notable industry figures each year to deliver one-off masterclasses. For all courses where industry professional accreditation can be achieved, we've met the standard, so you are guaranteed training that meets industry requirements. Liverpool is a vibrant city with a world-famous reputation for culture. There are countless opportunities to get involved in the cultural scene here. This means you can put your learning into practice and gain invaluable experience outside of the Institute. This essential skill is at the heart of our teaching. Collectively, our courses provide training in all of the skills required to put on a show. We are one of the few training institutions in the world to offer to make possible performance courses alongside all aspects of performance, enabling our students to gain diverse experience during training. Some 76% of those working in the creative and performing arts are self-employed, so it's likely you'll fall into this category. That's why business and entrepreneurship skills are built into all of our courses. This includes encouraging you to develop a career plan and learn practical self-management skills. Mark had been fired up by Alan Parker's 1980 film 'FAME' about the New York High School for the Performing Arts. Mark then approached a variety of well-known people in the creative and performing arts to refine his ideas. This journey leads to The BRIT School in London and then LIPA. The creation of both described in Mark's first book 'Optimistic, Even Then.' "Late one night, I made a sentimental visit to my old school, the Liverpool Institute, built-in 1825. I found the place in a dilapidated state but was still intrigued by being in a place where so many of my early years had been spent. I took a film cameraman around and reminisced about the teachers, the pupils (one of them George Harrison), and some of the events that once took place in this lovely building. Making this film inspired me to start talking to people about ideas to save the building". George Martin, a supporter of Mark's approach to performing arts education and instrumental in the development of The BRIT School, was contacted by Paul and introduced Mark to Paul. The two men brought different but symbiotic aspirations to the project: Paul wanting the building restored, Mark wanting to pioneer a new approach to performing arts education. It took seven painful years of planning, fundraising, and building to get the project off the ground. It was not easy, but then, as Paul reminded Mark from time to time, "If it were easy, everyone would be doing it." The next coincidence was Liverpool City Council, which was wondering how the city might build upon its reputation as a music city. Pete Misspelled Word Misspelled Word Misspelled Word Fulwell, then managing the Liverpool band The Christians, was commissioned to report on how this could be done. Pete looked at Mark to input the training element of the 'Music City' report. The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts officially opened its doors to students in January 1996. During his speech at the inauguration event, Paul wished his parents could have been alive to witness the event, while Mark hoped that, one day, students would experience the feelings he was experiencing then. 14. Liverpool Hope University pursues a path of excellence in scholarship and collegial life without reservation or hesitation. The University's distinctive philosophy is to 'educate in the round' – mind, body, and spirit – in the quest for Truth, Beauty, and Goodness. We are proud of our rich heritage, but we continue to look to the future as we invest in the University. In recent years we have celebrated the opening of the EDEN (Education and Enterprise) building at Hope Park, and the Creative Campus goes from strength to strength. The beautiful Renaissance-style garden is blossoming and has now won several design awards. This year, building work is underway to see even more changes on campus. The new Health Sciences Building at Hope Park opened in January 2016 and includes state-of-the-art labs, a 25m running track, and double-height robotics and engineering room for drone testing. This building is also a recently built Our Place student social zone, the refurbishment to our library, and a new cafe and lounge at the Creative Campus. All of these changes serve to enhance the idea of Collegium and community at Liverpool Hope – something that has been at the heart of the University since its beginnings back in 1844. Almost 170 years ago, our first founding colleges, The Church of England's Warrington Training College (1844) and the Sisters of Notre Dame's Our Lady's Training College (1856), were established to provide teacher education for women. A century later, Christ's College was built opposite S. Katharine is where Hope Park is today, admitting its first students in 1964. By 1980, the colleges had joined to form an ecumenical federation – the Liverpool Institute of Higher Education (LIHE). The late Archbishop Derek Worlock and Bishop David Sheppard wrote of this as "a sign of hope" (Better Together). LIHE later became a single, unified College and was given the new name of Liverpool Hope to represent the college's mission. Liverpool Hope University was born in July 2005, when the Privy Council bestowed the right to use the University title. The Privy Council granted research Degree Awarding Powers in 2009. With a history extending 168 years, Liverpool Hope has developed a strong tradition of scholarship and research in critical disciplines. As the only ecumenical university foundation in Europe, the University's work has been shaped by Christian principles but embraces all faiths and none. The excellent academic record of our students is supported by pastoral care. As one of Britain's smaller universities, Liverpool Hope values the individual - in the words of Cardinal Newman, knowing her children one by one. Care, concern, and support for students are always a priority. Liverpool Hope has two main teaching campuses. Hope Park is situated in a leafy suburb of Liverpool and is a mini educational village. The Creative Campus in Liverpool city center is the home to our creative and performing arts subjects. Both campuses have seen significant investment over the last five years, so traditional architecture sits beside contemporary buildings and facilities. The University places great emphasis on bringing together of research excellence and top-quality teaching. This is facilitated by a community of academics and scholars who are of the highest caliber. This research-informed teaching enables our students to develop into rounded and employable graduates who can confidently take their place as global citizens in the 21st century. At Liverpool Hope University, we offer a wide range of undergraduate degrees, both as single and combined honors. Such a variety means you can choose a suitable degree for you and the career you want to pursue. Our excellent academic record and supportive environment are complemented by the beautiful settings of our campuses, making Liverpool Hope an extraordinary place to study. We place a great emphasis on bringing together research excellence and top quality teaching. Our research-led teaching aims to ensure that you develop into a rounded and employable graduate to take your place in society and make a difference in whatever career path you choose. We offer two types of degrees: Single Honours and Combined Honours. All of our degrees, including UCAS codes and entry requirements, can be found in the Undergraduate Courses section of our website. If you choose to study a Single Honours degree, you choose to study one primary subject area. Single Honours degrees are the right choice if you have a particular subject area you want to study in more depth. If you choose to study a Combined Honours degree, you are choosing to study two subject areas equally. Combined Honours degrees are the right choice if you are interested in more than one subject area. At Liverpool Hope University, our degrees follow an integrated curriculum. This means that instead of setting modules and module options in your second and third years, the curriculum is set across all three years, with a small element of choice. It means less of a fragmented study of each subject area, each year developing your knowledge of the subject as a whole, providing you with a more rounded knowledge base in your chosen degree.
