About Me

  1. The Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies is an institution of research and higher education dedicated to studying world affairs, with a particular emphasis on the cross-cutting fields of international relations and development issues. Through our core activities, we aim to promote international cooperation and contribute to the progress of developing societies. More broadly, we endeavor to develop creative thinking on our time's significant challenges, foster global responsibility, and advance respect for diversity. We are a cosmopolitan community located in the heart of Geneva, an international city, and a center of global governance. By intensely engaging with international organizations, NGOs, governments, and multinational companies, we participate in global discussions and prepare future policy-makers to lead tomorrow's world. The Graduate Institute is an institution of further education that offers study programs, executive education, and expertise in international relations and development studies. It seeks to offer an independent and rigorous analysis of major contemporary global issues as part of efforts to promote international cooperation and make an academic contribution to less-developed societies' progress. The Institute offers students from all over the world an opportunity to undertake advanced bilingual (English-French) disciplinary and interdisciplinary (Masters and PhDs) studies intended to give them the high-level skills necessary to make an essential contribution towards peace and development. The Institute combines teaching and academic research with expertise and executive education to respond flexibly to public and private international actors' needs. Thanks to its position in Geneva, it can benefit from the many international governmental and non-governmental organizations in Geneva and the city's diplomatic missions. It offers the international community and the Swiss diplomatic community a forum for meetings and a forward-looking reflection platform. The Institute is the focal point for the Swiss Network of International Studies. This network includes the University of Geneva and other Swiss academic partners, intended to strengthen international studies in Switzerland and encourage, following in the tradition of its predecessor, the RUIG, cooperation between academic institutions and international organizations. The Institute also maintains and develops partnerships and participates in international exchange networks. The Institute is governed independently according to a clearly defined set of responsibilities for all its entities and a management system based on efficiency and flexibility principles. The Institute encourages widespread participation in its activities. The Institute offers public service and is supported by financial contributions from the Swiss Confederation and the Canton of Geneva. As part of efforts to fulfill the objectives it has set for itself, the Institute seeks to diversify its sources of funding to increase the number of scholarships it can offer and create employment opportunities. We are well-placed to meet this challenge thanks to several comparative advantages: Our cosmopolitanism, which allows students from over a hundred countries to experience global diversity and build lifelong connections A small community, which facilitates close and productive interaction between teachers and students A remarkable wealth of expertise, which includes both accomplished specialists and junior researchers (Ph.D. candidates make up nearly half of the student body) and is reinforced by our commitment to interdisciplinary cooperation Our strong ties to International Geneva, with its range of actors (diplomatic missions as well as international and non-governmental organizations) and focus areas which are crucial to the future of our world (humanitarian action and human rights, trade, peacebuilding, the environment, migration, health, and more), providing numerous opportunities for cooperation An international network of academic partners, notably in the principal emerging countries, offers our students valuable study and research exchanges. A commitment to excellence, upon which our reputation is based and which guarantees the value of our diplomas Our Institute has earned a worldwide reputation for preparing students for international careers. We are committed to strengthening this reputation by building upon tradition and encouraging innovation, but above all, by ensuring our graduates' professional success, whether they choose to pursue careers in the public sector, the private sector, or the non-profit sector. Whichever path they follow, they will benefit from an education that combines intellectual rigor with a practical focus to allow them to make a beneficial impact on our world. View full university
  2. The USPEE becomes a higher education institution, which has financial independence and freedom in promoting its policy, which seeks to revitalize the elitist training process in the Republic of Moldova and integrate domestic higher education into the European Higher Education space. USPS offers its students the opportunity to combine different forms of academic, formative, and research activities. The activities are invited to participate in professors from the country and abroad. The USPEE administration organizes conferences and lectures of well-known professors from Central and South-Eastern Europe, Western Europe, CIS, and the USA. This direction of international collaborations, practices, and novel research techniques represents a priority aspect of USPS's educational programs. The present book aims to present succinctly and arguably, the academic and research excellence of USPEE "C. Stere. " The 20th anniversary of our university is, at the same time, a reflection, evaluation, and projection. Although we are a relatively young institution, at the full age, we have already succeeded in fully justifying our existence through academic stateliness, educational and institutional security. We encourage free-thinking, active civic engagement, creativity, enthusiasm, and openness to communication and collaboration. At the end of the studies, our students have the intellectual gifts and the spiritual strength necessary for personal fulfillment and the community's progress. The USPEE leadership "C. Stere" wants to build up, consolidate the depth, and ensure the health of higher education roots within the USPS. We believe that only in this way can we develop together a sustainable, thriving university. Therefore, USPEE "C. 4. IHS's approach is based on the cross-fertilization of our main three activities: education, advisory services, and applied research. By being involved in different core activities simultaneously, IHS urban specialists can create strong links between theory and practice. IHS staff members spend a substantial amount of time working in the field, and they possess relevant expertise within the context of different countries they have worked in. This way, they provide support, training, and relevant services for course participants and clients. Inputs drawn from the advisory and research activities are also reflected in the classroom, where course participants benefit from the lecturers' rich knowledge and professional background. The Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies (IHS) is an education, advisory, and research institute of Erasmus University Rotterdam. For 60 years, it has been our mission to develop human and institutional capacities, reduce poverty, and improve cities' quality of life. Looking at cities from different perspectives, we educate urban professionals with diverse backgrounds, consult national and local governments from the Global South, and engage in cutting-edge urban research. Bringing practical experience from real-life projects back to the classroom, we inspire collaboration and co-creation of urban knowledge. Together with our partners, we work at the forefront of urban development to improve people living in cities. IHS is about making cities work. IHS' approach to the problems faced in reducing poverty and improving the quality of life in cities is based on the cross-fertilization of three activities: education, advisory services, and applied research. IHS strongly believes in linking theory and practice: staff members spend a substantial amount of time working in the field, possessing relevant expertise within the context of different countries they have worked in, and thus providing support, training, and services that are relevant for course participants and clients. Our alumni network includes over 9000 active urban experts worldwide, ranging from architects, social scientists, economists to public administration workers, civil servants, and government officials. 7. In 1885-1886 HEI was founded in Lille by the Industrial Leaders of Northern France to meet their engineering needs. HEI has since extended its activities to the training of polyvalent engineers, open-minded to the world, humanistic in managerial approach with the added plus of an international and intercultural profile. Since 2009, the HEI preparatory classes (more than 700 students) have been held in the Irène-Devos building at 31 ter rue Colbert, a new residence overlooking the city, 800 m from the historic building. The 5000 m² building, which was refurbished in 2009, offers a pleasant and useful working environment featuring the latest ICT equipment. The practical workrooms and some departments are still at 13 rue de Toul, in the historic building, to keep the essential spirit of school alive through the integrated preparatory class. HEI has access to new areas in a building in rue Roland: redesigned, it is home to the HEI researcher laboratories. Grouping them under the same roof in this research building encourages the crossover of their expertise and their work. Some 130 years later, the school continues to pursue this mission through three core activities: the training of engineers and executives, industrial applied research and development, and extension services to the business world, including technology transfer. Since the creation of the school, these dimensions have defined the identity of HEI. We coach each student, personally, in the design and realization of their personal and professional project, enhancing learning outcomes in line with the needs, expectations, and requirements of the global economic world. HEI, in the service of the private business and industrial sectors, revealing individual talents and insight, fostering innovation, developing competency, and creating competitive advantage. Our graduates are renowned as HEI engineers throughout all specialization areas due to HEI's reputation with the leading companies in France and worldwide. HEI engineers can efficiently resolve complex problems and are at ease in carrying out complex tasks in an efficacious systematic manner, within budget. They are also well versed in teamwork, organization and structure, leadership, and project management, with clear, precise communication skills. Each of our future engineers is accompanied throughout their personally developed training program. All students are advised on a one-to-one basis, allowing them to complete the engineering program, both in polyvalence and practical specialization. All students, faculty members, and post-doctoral staff contribute to an active international research program. HEI engineers possess strong practical experience. All courses are highly industrial business world-oriented. Students must spend three separate periods during their studies in industry and undertake an industrial study/research project within a company or university research laboratory. All students also undertake an international experience during their studies within this framework or the context of an exchange program. View full university
  8. Since 1947, the EHESS (École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales, School of Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences) has pioneered innovative methods and ideas that have made landmark contributions the evolution of the humanities and the social sciences. An interdisciplinary approach, global outlook, and critical spirit are cornerstones of the EHESS philosophy. They have informed some of the most well-known French scholars, such as Fernand Braudel, Pierre Bourdieu, Jacques Derrida, Claude Lévi-Strauss, Françoise Héritier, and Thomas Piketty. The École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (School of Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences) is a graduate-only research institution with a unique standing in the world of research and higher education in France. It hosts scholars from all over the world committed to studying contemporary societies seen within broad cultural and historical contexts. It trains students up to the Ph.D. level in all social and human sciences (history, anthropology, sociology, economics, geography, linguistics, psychology, demography, cognitive science, political science, philosophy, and mathematics). With its high percentage of international students and faculty, EHESS has created a unique global academic network. With over 1,000 round-table seminars a year, in which faculty and guest scholars present and discuss their current research with students, EHESS occupies a central position in French intellectual life. EHESS was founded in 1984 as a 'grand établissement' alongside the College de France, the Institut d’études politiques de Paris, and the Conservatoire national des arts métiers. The School's unique status was recognized in 1985 by ministerial decree, which clearly defined its mission and organization: it is structured around research training for Master's and Ph.D. students, as well as students of its own EHESS Diploma and candidates for the Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches (Accreditation as a Research Supervisor). EHESS maintains close links with several French universities and research institutions operating within its disciplinary fields. It is a member of Paris Sciences & Lettres (PSL) University, which comprises 26 prestigious self-governing academic and research institutions. It will join the Campus Condorcet, a new urban campus for Humanities and Social Sciences, in 2019. As an institution dedicated to developing all forms of scientific knowledge concerning human interactions and relationships, EHESS has long been considered an "innovation hub" for the Social Sciences. For nearly 70 years, the School has been a significant player in the renewal and reinvention of theories, methodologies, and practice in history, anthropology, and sociology. The School has also promoted and supported inter-disciplinary collaboration between cognitive sciences and philosophy, poetry and mathematics, and is the home of a new institutionally accredited school of thought in economics, the success of which is internationally recognized. EHESS has its origins in the Economics and Social Sciences department of the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes (EPHE), created in 1947 under Lucien Febvre. Over the following three decades, this department was highly influential in carving out a place for Social Sciences as an epistemological domain in its own right. It is a space for inter-disciplinary exchanges focusing on a joint research object: human societies. As Director of the Economics and Social Sciences department of EPHE since 1972, Jacques Le Goff worked to create an independent institution: the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS). The School was established by decree on January 25, 1975. In the early 1970s, it was housed at 54 Boulevard Raspail in Paris, in the same building as the Maison des Sciences de l'Homme, founded by Fernand Braudel. From the very beginning, it was the seat of several influential research centers that provided an intellectual home for some of the greatest historians, sociologists, anthropologists, and philosophers of the time, including Pierre Bourdieu, Jacques Derrida, François Furet, Françoise Héritier, Claude Lévi-Strauss, and Jean-Pierre Vernant. The EHESS attracts students from all over the world, who come to benefit from a complementary approach that combines an in-depth analysis of the past with research that is explicitly directed at understanding today's world. Students and researchers come together in seminars, which have been the traditional locus of training for research through research since the foundation of the School. Ever since its official launch as an independent institution in 1975, the EHESS's mission has promoted debate between researchers on concepts, disciplines, and cultural areas. To celebrate its foundation as an independent institution, many scientific and artistic events were organized throughout 2015, which celebrated the diversity and richness of current research and the innovative potential of future work in the Social Sciences. From the outset, EHESS was designed as an international institution. This is evidenced by the high proportion of foreign researchers (22%) and students (approximately 50% of Ph.D. and Master's students) within the School. This international outreach is a hallmark of the School. It has enabled EHESS to develop a strong and extensive network of academic exchange programs with leading universities worldwide. Many of its researchers have achieved worldwide recognition for their work, and contacts are maintained and fostered thanks to their regular trips abroad. In 2017, EHESS signed 61 cooperation agreements with international partners. Researchers head all these agreements. The international mission of EHESS has three primary objectives: disseminating the scientific work of the School through major international institutions, facilitating exchanges between academics from different scientific backgrounds, and monitoring and bringing to public attention the most innovative developments in present-day research. In the sphere of social and human sciences, which have become increasingly international in recent years, it is essential to build research networks and develop projects with scholars from other countries. This concept lies at the heart of the School's philosophy. It has led to the development of several new research centers focused on "cultural areas," in which 42% of Master's students and 50% of Ph.D. students come from overseas. EHESS has a long-standing history of promoting and supporting international exchanges through short-term invitations ("Petites Invitations"), enabling faculty members to invite colleagues from abroad to participate in their seminar series co-supervision of Ph.D. students (309 co-supervised Ph.D. theses per year on average over the last five years) the active support and promotion of international mobility for researchers and graduate students the development of international training and research projects funding for international post-doctoral positions. Each year EHESS hosts between 150 and 200 visiting professors from every corner of the globe. These professors are affiliated with one of the School's research centers, where they participate in various scientific activities. EHESS has continued to nurture its contacts with former international alumni who have become recognized academics in their countries of origin and have built strong links with other eminent scholars. We are committed to the idea that individual relationships are the primary source of intellectual exchange and seek to support and promote ongoing dialogue between permanent staff, visiting professors, and former international researchers and students. The geographic locations of EHESS alumni can be seen on this map. View full university

The Università Degli Studi Internazionali di Roma (University of International Studies of Rome) - UNINT is a private university established in Rome in 1996 under the name "Libera Università Degli Studi San Pio V." The Faculty of Political Science was the University's first official department, followed by the Faculties of Interpreting and Translation and Economics. From the very beginning, the founders of UNINT have created a leading university with a global vision by including Italian and foreign staff members from different cultural, professional, and academic spheres. With this diversity, UNINT's faculty can share a wide range of knowledge regarding various professional fields and provide a strong international vocation. Increasing attention to market demands and the study of business processes led the University to change its name to the "Libera Università Degli Studi Per l'Innovazione e le Organizzazioni" in 2010. In March 2013, the University adopted its current name of the "University of International Studies of Rome - UNINT" to better emphasize the global vocation of its educational offering. This led to the expansion of language teaching (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Portuguese and Brazilian, Russian, Spanish) to the inclusion of language study in all graduate courses as an indispensable element of the educational program and the creation of numerous educational and internship opportunities abroad. Since 2011, FORMAT has administered the University through the appointment of a majority of the Board of Directors, with the principles of quality of education, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness of the University's management underpinning its actions. Other essential components include a functional research activity to enhance educational paths and an efficient and open learning environment for intercultural exchange. The UNINT educational model is based on three pillars: internationality, which is the ability to understand and address the challenges of an ever-changing world, a close connection with the labor market, which is achieved through innovative education programs and which is designed to respond to the demands of the global community and new professions and the quality of university life, which features personalized attention focused on meeting student needs and a close relationship with the academic staff. In particular, UNINT, and all of its programs, are characterized by a highly distinctive language learning offering. Students choose eight different languages - Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Portuguese and Brazilian, Russian, and Spanish. Furthermore, the number of courses taught in English is constantly growing. To ensure regular support for the international vocation that is an integral part of the University's mission, UNINT also continuously engages in offering exchange programs with foreign universities and partnerships with companies and public and private institutions. Currently, the University has over 800 internship and traineeship agreements across Italy and abroad, and over 80 cooperation and exchange agreements with European and non-European universities. UNINT also carries out higher-education activities through a wide range of masters and postgraduate courses on translation, healthcare, and journalism. 13. The S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) was officially inaugurated on 1 January 2007. Before this, it was known as the Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies (IDSS), established ten years earlier, on 30 July 1996, by Dr. Tony Tan Keng Yam, then Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence. Dr. Tony Tan later became the elected seventh President of the Republic of Singapore. Like its predecessor, RSIS was established as an autonomous entity within Nanyang Technological University (NTU). RSIS's mission is to be a leading research and graduate teaching institution in the Asia Pacific's strategic and international affairs. RSIS offers a challenging graduate education in international affairs, taught by an international faculty of leading thinkers and practitioners. The Master of Science degree programs in Strategic Studies, International Relations, Asian Studies, and International Political Economy are distinguished by their focus on the Asia Pacific, international affairs professional practice, and academic depth cultivation. Thus far, students from 66 countries have completed one of these programs. In 2010, a Double Masters Programme with Warwick University was also launched, with students required to spend the first year at Warwick and the second year at RSIS. A select Doctor of Philosophy program caters to advanced students supervised by senior faculty members with matching interests. International students have to apply for a Student's Pass from the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority to pursue full-time studies in Singapore. The Student's Pass is only issued to full-time students and not to part-time students. International students who wish to pursue programs on a part-time basis should obtain employment in Singapore before applying for admission to the University and should ensure that they are permitted to work and reside in Singapore throughout their study by the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority. Passport holders of specific countries, including China and India, must have a valid visa before entering Singapore. The University will assist successful international applicants in their applications for the Student Pass. This partnership covers the entire continuum of officer education, from the SAF Warrant Officer School (SAFWOS), Officer Cadet School (OCS), the SAF Advanced Schools (SAS), to the Goh Keng Swee Command and Staff College (GKS CSC), housed within SAFTI Military Institute (SAFTI MI), the Home of the Officer Corps. Spanning accredited (post-graduate and undergraduate) and two educational frameworks broadly cover non-accredited modules and courses, the SAF's leaders' education. Under the SAF-NTU Strategic Partnership, which supports the SAF's Continuing Education Programme in partnership with the SAF-NTU Academy (SNA), MSP conducts accredited Master's and undergraduate courses in two SAF programs. For the first, MSP delivers two Master's modules at the GKS CSC, designed to educate the senior SAF officer with the necessary skills to understand the dynamic and complex nature of international relations and the study of war, providing CSC students an opportunity to complete a Master's degree in RSIS. The latter accredited Undergraduate Professional Military Education and Training (UGPMET) Course is designed to give the SAF's young officers an essential foundational knowledge in military studies and regional geopolitics necessary for their careers. The second framework, known as the Military Studies and Geopolitics (MSGP), is a series of courses focused on providing relevant and incisive learning in regional geopolitics, strategic studies, and the study of war, conducted at OCS, SAS, and SAFWOS. These courses are designed to help prepare the SAF officers for their profession at arms at various careers. The Asia Pacific Programme for Senior Military Officers (APPSMO) and the GKS CSC Seminar, both held annually, are two other critical programs focused on Executive Education, conceptualized and organized by MSP on behalf of RSIS. These are critical networking and educational seminars and conferences, bringing academics, military professionals, and other stakeholders together to engage in areas of mutual interests. Other than the SAF courses, MSP conducts lectures at the Unit Commander Course at the Civil Defence Academy as well. This program aims to give SCDF officers a historical and comparative perspective of Singapore's Civil Defence and the emerging threats to Singapore's security. Besides, RSIS also conducts a Regional Security Module for the Home Team Academy, culminating in a RSIS Certificate in Regional Security. This module intends to enhance senior officers' understanding of the regional and global dimensions of threats to Singapore's security. RSIS staff regularly speak at external conferences organized by prolific organizations and collaborate with other think tanks in their research and networking engagements. They are recognized through the various appointments and research grants on top of being awarded prizes. RSIS is a leading research think tank in Asia. It is among 82 nominated as one of the leading think tanks globally in the 2016 Global Go To Think Tank Rankings done by the University of Pennsylvania. RSIS also runs post-graduate programs that have attracted students from more than 50 countries around the world. RSIS' achievements in research have been possible only because of donations from supporters such as the Singapore Totalisator Board, Ngee Ann Kongsi, Lee Foundation, Temasek Foundation, Ford Foundation, Sasakawa Peace Foundation, and from philanthropists such as Mr. Lee Seng Tee. Without their generosity, we would not have come so far in such a short time. View full university

On November 12, 2007, the University was granted the certificate of registration with the Ministry of Justice - Russian Federation and Inter-governmental Accreditation by the International Parliament of Safety and Peace (Italy). Further, in 2007 Inter-governmental Higher Academic Council (IHAC) was opened. On June 11, IUFS was recognized by the California University FCE. The International University of Fundamental Studies (the IUFS) was founded in St. Petersburg in the Russian Federation in the year 1998. The IUFS is a Scientific Research University continually operating its activities as a Complex Public Scientific Research Institution, which is the first in the World. The IUFS is multi-functional in its goals and objectives. Also, in the IUFS, the Intergovernmental Higher Academic Council (the IHAC) is incorporated. Graduates can submit their dissertations in different fields of study and different spheres of Scientific-Research activities and thereby earn the International Postgraduate Degree Qualifications. The International University of Fundamental Studies (the IUFS) is a university that tackles global importance problems, and the scientists representing the IUFS do possess well respected international prestige. The IUFS also prepares International Scientific and Management Personnel, including various activities within the IUFS, having substance of theoretical, practical, and international importance. As a university, the IUFS is universal indeed: it covers almost all sciences and spheres of scientific importance activities. The IUFS is a unique university of an exceptional kind and level. It does not offer education in its traditional meaning. However, the IUFS offers an education that prepares already approved specialists to further high professional activity, proficiency, and scientific research, which are of great significance and importance. Specialists from different countries are tested by the Intergovernmental Higher Academic Council (the IHAC) under the purview of the IUFS, which confers International Scientific Degrees of Bachelor, Master, Doctor, and Grand-Doctor. In this connection, the value of the International Scientific Degree, conferred by the IHAC, according to international standards, is followed by: "Bachelor, Master, Doctor, Grand-Doctor of Philosophy in certain field of science and scientifically significant activity". Our University is unique and new in its character and predestination, the highest educational institution in the World. Based on the needs of the time, material, and spiritual development of humanity, of all and sundry, IUFS, on a principally new philosophical and methodological basis, carries out a multi-level educational process. The goal, the subject, and the result of education in IUFS are a cooperation of different principles, aimed at realizing such a fundamental principle of education as studying and education. Disposing of a highly-qualified faculty, IUFS forms among its pupil's intellect and behavioral cooperation paradigm, which they learn by themselves and turn into other people's heritage. Such "cooperation paradigm" inherently resists the "violence paradigm," which has already brought and can bring a lot of grief and sufferings again to all people of our uneasy planet. In its geopolitical position, Russia and Petersburg especially suit for implementing real and essential cooperation between the West and the East, the North and the South nations. And IUFS, as of right, is a center of such cooperation. According to the new education methodology, created based on Oxford Educational Network, everybody who wants to get new knowledge and practical skills exist International University of Fundamental Studies. The Bachelor's degree programs at UAMS are based on a unique combination of classical, full-time study and the victorious German "cooperative education" model – "Subsidised Management Degrees." Our degree courses' content was developed in cooperation with companies, both household names and innovative medium-sized companies, to ensure that the labor market's needs are fully met. Due to a unique financing model, made possible by support from our partner companies and the state of Baden-Wurttemberg, there is a win-win situation for all parties. 21. Founded in 2006, the University of Applied Labour Studies UALS (Hochschule der Bundesagentur für Arbeit - HdBA) is publicly recognized and accredited by the German Council of Science Humanities (Wissenschaftsrat). Each year, around 500 students at the two university sites in Mannheim and Schwerin are qualified in dual bachelor programs to become guidance experts for education, career, employment, and labor market management. The three-year degree program is comprised of nine four-month trimesters rather than semesters. What is unique about the HBA: The course is a work-and-study program (dual studies) in which theoretical education alternates with experimental phases. The students spend five trimesters at the university in Mannheim or Schwerin. They do four internships in an Employment Agency, Jobcentre, company, chamber, or abroad during that time. Thus, the practical part is given much more weight than in many other universities, allowing the students to gain experiences in real working life early on. Guidance and labor market experts trained by the UALS have to possess specific professional, methodical, social, and personal skills. This is why the curriculum includes a well-balanced combination of subjects from economic, social, educational, and legal sciences complemented by expertise in labor market policy, labor market-related services, and guidance – precisely the kind of skills needed by professionals for the Federal Employment Agency. Besides teaching, the professors also spend time doing applied research and development in guidance, placement, and integration and organize further scientific training courses for the BA's staff. Although the UALS is supported and financed solely by the Federal Employment Agency, it acts independently in all academic aspects. As a result, all skills taught here can also be applied outside of the BA, e.g., in the field of public management or HR service providers. Not only does the UALS have an excellent student-faculty ratio, but it also gives students of the bachelor courses a financial advantage over their fellow students at other universities, one that is especially important for young people at the beginning of their careers: They receive attractive remuneration already during their studies which allows them to concentrate on their courses fully. Once graduated, they can launch their career. The master's program is designed for the Federal Employment Agency employees who want to obtain further scientific qualification while continuing to work. Being close to the labor market is what many young people have when they start to study. The students want to feel that they chose a seminal subject that opens up a variety of perspectives and allows them to start a job immediately after graduating. The courses should have as much practical relevance as possible, be challenged intellectually, varied, with intensive support from teachers and the right studying conditions. The University of Applied Labour Studies (UALS) is capable of meeting all these expectations. It offers a highly practice-oriented, interdisciplinary, and professionally attractive course of studies and guarantees excellent job prospects. Nowhere else are students as close to the labor market as here: The UALS is the Federal Employment Agency's (BA) pool for recruiting young talents. Synonymous with competent career guidance, placement, and employment promotion, the BA is also one of Germany's most prominent employers with some 90,000 employees, a fact that is frequently overlooked. To qualify skilled personnel for assuming the varied tasks involved in implementing the general labor market policies, the University of Applied Labour Studies (UALS) needs a course offer that combines specific economic, social, and legal sciences. What is more, the University of Applied Labour Studies (UALS) offers a unique curriculum with its focus on guidance sciences. Although the training at the UALS is primarily geared to the BA's unique requirements, the students are also qualified for tasks outside of the BA that overlap with the BA's range of services, e.g., in the field of public management or HR service providers. 22. He Hochschule für Jüdische Studien Heidelberg (HfJS) was founded in 1979. The Central Council of the Jews supports it in Germany (Zentralrat der Juden in Deutschland), financed through the local and federal government, and is a fully recognized and accredited institution of higher learning. Nowhere else in Europe can Jewish studies be pursued with incomparable breadth and depth. This allows the HfJS to impart to its students, both Jewish and non-Jewish, the richness and diversity of Jewish religion, history, and culture within an academic context. With ten professors and as many Assistants, the HfJS is today the leading center for Jewish studies in Europe. Due to the recognition that the HfJS has attained, it has become a primary source of information for politicians, the media, churches, and other educational institutions and, since 2007, a member of the College Rectors' Conference (Hochschulrektorenkonferenz). The HfJS views itself as a part of a community wherein it can catalyze understanding and dialogue. Its task is not merely the advancement of academic research and knowledge but also to serve as a bridge between the Jewish community in Germany and society. In its public lecture series "Heidelberger Hochschulreden," such noteworthy luminaries have spoken as Chancellor Angela Merkel, Marcel Reich-Ranicki Joschka Fischer. The HfJS has also involved a wide array of academics, students, and others interested in Jewish religion and culture through its various publications: "Truman," the academic journal of the HfJS, and its book series "Schriften der Hochschule für Jüdische Studien". An electronic newsletter is also published regularly that offers news and information about the HfJS. "…and thou shalt meditate therein day and night" (Joshua, 1:8): Originally, this excerpt has been thought to refer to the "Book of the Torah." But in the 19th century, the "Wissenschaft des Judentums" applied this phrase to the whole of Jewish religion and culture. Nevertheless, the movement's institutions of Jewish higher education in Breslau and Berlin remained isolated from the scientific landscape, having been ultimately dismantled during the National Socialist Regime. Later founded by the Central Council for Jews in Germany in 1979, the Hochschule für Jüdische Studien Heidelberg chose this phrase from Joshua as its guiding principle to be followed following its various meanings. In doing so, the HfJS fosters the legacy of the "Wissenschaft des Judentums" by further developing its approaches into an active part of the surrounding scholarly terrain. The Hochschule für Jüdische Studien Heidelberg is a dynamic scholarly discussion that incorporates all facets of Jewish religion, history, cultures, and societies. While the proximity to the historical heritage of Ashkenaz provides the decisive impetus for both academic and religious work at the HfJS, its interest invariably extends beyond to all areas of geography and chronology as to consider Jewish cultures at large: in the past and present within a self-reliant Judaism within the Diaspora and likewise within the land of Israel. The Hochschule für Jüdische Studien Heidelberg opens its doors to all students and scholars—regardless of their respective origins and creeds. It also undertakes a dual track, which is demonstrated by the mere layout of the HfJS itself: The scientific Albert Einstein Library is situated, albeit with seminar rooms between them, in juxtaposition to the corresponding house of learning, the Beth Midrash. Here within the same institution, the learning of foundational religious texts of Judaism with the campus Rabbi meets the study and scientific discourse among members and academic staff. Equipped with a kosher cafeteria, the HfJS caters to its members' needs for nourishment and a relaxing social atmosphere. The interplay between internal and external perspectives allows the Hochschule für Jüdische Studien Heidelberg to hone its view on religion, history, culture, and society. After all, the teachers and graduates will refine our knowledge of Jewish history and theology. As a center of excellence unique in its field to Europe, the HfJS distinctly enables diverse resources and prospects both within and outside Europe's Jewish communities. The HfJS provides intense language training at all levels (in Biblical, Rabbinical, and Modern Hebrew, and Hebrew-scripted languages, such as Yiddish and Judeo-Arabic). It offers degrees in accredited B.A. and M.A. programs taught in German and an international M.A. partnership program in "Jewish Civilizations" taught in English together with Paideia—The European Institute for Jewish Studies in Sweden. Finally, the HfJS also provides a Ph.D. in Jewish Studies (Dr. Phil.) in cooperation with the University of Heidelberg. In Jewish studies, the B.A. offers to students of the HfJS a course of study that is focused on the humanities and cultural studies. It is not connected to any particular denomination or confession and requires no previous Hebrew knowledge, nor does it presuppose a familiarity with the Jewish religion, history, or culture. The general studies portion can count as 75%, 50%, or 25% of the study's full course. Students who chose this path focus on the sources of Judaism: that is, the sacred texts of Judaism and their interpretation throughout history the history of the Jewish people Jewish philosophy, art, and literature as well as other thematically associated fields. In this way, the inquiry object is time and again viewed through several academic disciplines' perspectives. After completing the B.A. with a portion of at least 50%, the course of study can be continued to acquire the degree of M.A. in Jewish Studies. In the course of the student's M.A. studies, the knowledge gained during the B.A. will be expanded and deepened. The comprehensive course offerings at the HfJS makes it possible for students who aspire to the M.A. in Jewish studies to specialize in an area of study according to their choosing. The M.A. degree qualifies graduates for Ph.D. study. View full university

  25. The College was developed to provide college-level training in Bible and theology for those who had little or no opportunity to receive such training by conventional means (resident, full-time). As a commuter college, this training is accomplished uniquely through our key distinctions: The biblical – curriculum is primarily focused on a biblical world view, based on scriptural truth, focusing on ministry preparation and life transformation. Diverse – students study and experience the education process with fellow students from various ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Accessible – courses are available during the day, evening, and Saturdays, and through alternative schedules to provide the CBS commuter college students an opportunity to "fit" their studies into their life schedules. Affordable – the cost of attendance is intentionally lower than other accredited private institutions, and financial aid is available to assist students in meeting their studies' financial requirements. The College of Biblical Studies-Houston provides biblically based education for the Body of Christ, with a primary focus on African-American and other ethnic minority groups, and equips its students with a biblical worldview for Christian service to the Church and the world. By 2020, the College of Biblical Studies-Houston will become the premier Bible college in Texas focused on transforming a diverse student body to serve Christ and impact families, churches, and communities to God's glory. The purpose of the Office of Institutional Effectiveness is to support the College in accomplishing its mission, goals, and objectives by collecting, analyzing, distributing, and presenting data and information for use in decision-making, policy formulation, budgeting, and planning. The Office is responsible for reporting data to internal and external entities, responding to diverse requests for information within the college community, and encouraging assessment throughout the College for continuous improvement, efficiency, and effectiveness. At CBS, we are committed to running our race with diligence and excellence by providing top-rated biblically-based education that transforms and equips our students for more excellent service to the Houston area, the Church, and the world. The CBS community wants its students to have hearts that are as soft as clay and minds that are as sharp as razors. For the Christian, everything that is done is done for the glory of God. He gives everything, including education, meaning, and purpose. There are more than 42,000 volumes and over 150 hard copy journals, periodicals, and newspapers available for use to support CBS's academic programs, meet its educational objectives, and aid in additional research. Also, CBS has extensive access to many databases with thousands of full-text journals, magazines, and downloadable e-books. The library has a computer lab with over 35 computer terminals outfitted with Microsoft Office, and there are 5 study rooms with A/V equipment in each room (6-10 people capacity). Also, the library and main building have Wi-Fi connectivity available to students. The library is for CBS students, faculty, and staff. Students should follow the instructions of the library staff and posted procedures for usage. Financial aid is any form of assistance that comes from some organized body that assists a student with attending College costs. These forms consist of federal, state, institutional, and private funds used to assist students in funding their education. Scholarships and grants are "free money "that you do not pay back; however, loans are considered self-help and you are required to pay them back when a student becomes enrolled less than half-time or graduates. When you seek aid, we will consider you for all forms of aid available. We are dedicated to our student's success through the services and organizations that are offered. We desire that you find a place of comfort within CBS that will help you to further your relationships with God and one another. The College of Biblical Studies–Houston (CBS), formerly Houston Bible Institute (HBI), began as a burden in the heart of the late Rev. Ernest L. Mays, the founder of HBI. He sensed that large segments of the local Christian community were functioning without trained leaders. This was especially true within the inner-city minority groups. Out of this concern, Houston Bible & Vocational Institute was incorporated in 1976. Mr. William Thomas, Jr. and Rev. Joe Wall assisted in developing a multi-racial, interdenominational board, which began working to make the school a reality. Within a short time, a decision was made to focus on biblical and theological training because they felt that there were already adequate vocational training resources in the area. In the fall of 1979, the first classes of Houston Bible Institute were offered. Rev. Rodney L. Cooper was the school's first Executive Director. From its inception, the school used the facilities of KHCB-FM, a Houston-based Christian radio network, for its classrooms, and leased administrative space nearby. In 1983, Rev. Rod Cooper resigned to pursue a Ph. D. The board promoted Rev. Jack Arrington, then Vice President, to President. President Arrington continued the difficult task of building the foundation and establishing credibility in the minority community.
