The University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB) was founded in 1952 following the amalgamation of the best departments in related fields of five eminent universities due to a nationwide reorganization of the higher education system. Over half a century of remarkable growth has developed into one of the most influential key national universities sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Education. USTB is renowned for its study of metallurgy and materials science. Its primary focus is on engineering while maintaining a balanced program of science, management, humanities, economics, and law. As metallurgy and materials science are the two disciplines for which it is most renowned, USTB is also known as "the cradle of iron and steel engineers". USTB is now working hard to become one of the top-ranking research universities in China and an internationally renowned higher education institute with its distinguishing features. To become one of the top research-oriented universities in China and an internationally renowned university. To develop and train our students with integrity,practical ability, and innovation in engineering and other disciplines to best serve the industry and society. USTB has maintained close collaboration with local communities, extending its social responsibility, and developing further excellence opportunities. Moreover, the university has strengthened its co-operation with worldwide enterprises in research, academic, and educational fields. Accordingly, it is consistently approaching its strategic target of contributing more to society and establishing a worldwide reputation". USTB has so far entered into a partnership with nearly 70 foreign universities and institutes from different countries and districts and invited more than 500 world-renowned academics such as Professor Akihisa INOUE, President of Tohoku University, as its honorary professors.
  2. Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT) is a high-level university that aims to develop chemical talent at the cutting-edge of science and technology. The university was established in 1958 and formerly known as the Beijing Institute of Chemical Technology. As a national key university directly affiliated to the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, and as one of the Project 211 universities and 985 Project Innovation Platforms, BUCT has responsibilities for basic and applied scientific research original, high-tech development and the training of high-level, innovative talent. The university is a multi-level training system for undergraduates, graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and students from foreign countries. Since its establishment, BUCT has trained more than 100,000 people for China. BUCT has a total of 14 colleges with 15,249 full-time undergraduate students, 6,303 full-time graduate students (including 804 Ph.D. students), and 460 international students. The university also has 4,096 continuing education students, including those in higher vocational education, the correspondence university, and the night university. Scientific research at BUCT has developed rapidly. This has enhanced the university's capability to undertake major projects and solve significant problems for China's economic and social development. Funding for science and technology continues to reach record highs. BUCT's per capita research funding is at the top level among Chinese universities. Since 2001, twenty-six scientific research projects of BUCT have won the National Technology Award. BUCT has three innovative research groups of the National Natural Science Foundation and six innovation teams of the Cheung Kong Scholar Program from the Ministry of Education. BUCT thus ranks at the forefront of Chinese colleges and universities. In 2016, BUCT received nearly 727 million yuan RMB in funding for research in science and technology, won 7 science and technology awards at the provincial and ministerial levels, and obtained 335 patents. BUCT pays close attention to the employment of its students and graduates. Helping students find suitable employment is one of the four essential tasks of BUCT, and the university puts much effort into this responsibility. In 2015, undergraduates' employment rate was 98.48%, and the overall employment rate of postgraduates was 96.83%. The 21st Century will be full of opportunities and challenges.   3. Beijing Foreign Studies University, or BFSU, is a prestigious university in China under the Chinese Ministry of Education's direct leadership. It is one of China's top universities listed under Project 985 and Project 211, comprising top universities in China. At present, BFSU is one of China's oldest language universities,teaching the most significant number of languages and offering education at different levels. Located in the Haidian District of Beijing,BFSU is divided into two campuses – the West Campus and the East Campus. In 1941, BFSU started as the Russian Language Team in the Third Branch of Chinese People's Anti-Japanese Military and Political College. It was later renamed Yan'an Foreign Languages School under the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China's direct leadership. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the school was put under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs leadership. It was renamed as Beijing Foreign Languages Institute in 1954 and merged with Beijing Russian Institute in 1959. Since 1980, the Institute was put under the direct leadership of the Ministry of Education. In 1994, it took on its current name Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU). Today, BFSU teaches 83 foreign languages and offers education programs at different levels, including doctoral programs in foreign languages and literature, Chinese language and literature, journalism and communication, political science, law, management science, engineering, etc. In more than 70 years, over 90 000 people have graduated from BFSU. BFSU now serves as an essential education base for qualified professionals with language competence who, after graduation, work as diplomats, translators/interpreters, business people, journalists, lawyers, bankers, etc. For example, among BFSU alumni who work or have worked in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we have over 400 ambassadors and over 1 000 counselors. BFSU is thus known as the "Cradle of Diplomats."
  4. Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) is a public university with a traditional focus on science and technology but developing into other areas such as management and humanities. The Institute emphasizes ethics in scholarship, discovering the truth, and contributing to humanity through profound academic accomplishments. BIT is dedicated to: Developing lofty ideals and sound scholarship, a healthy body, and a quiet heart Evolving a pragmatic and humble spirit and creating a culture of excellence Improving research capabilities and achieving distinction in defense technology BIT was founded in 1940 in Yan'an, Shaanxi Province, and was relocated to Beijing in 1949. The following year, the main campus and the Departments of Maths, Physics, and Chemistry of the Institut Franco-Chinois were merged with BIT. BIT has always formulated its strategies in light of national strategic needs and global developments in science and technology and education and its strengths and missions. These strategies include consolidating its strengths in mechanical and vehicle engineering and automation, leveraging its advantages and distinctive programs in IT-related disciplines, and developing new aerospace engineering strengths. Engineering, materials science, chemistry, physics, and mathematics are the five disciplines in BIT ranked among the top 1% in Essential Science Indicators (ESI) global ranking. Over the years, BIT is devoted to improving its research capabilities. High-level achievements have been made in navigation control, injury prevention and safety, mechanical and vehicle engineering, materials science, and information systems and warfare. It has developed a clear edge in intelligent and bionic robotics, adaptive space optics, green energy, modern communications, and industrial process control. By taking a global approach to education, BIT is increasingly established as an internationally reputable and influential institution. It has currently established inter-university collaboration with more than 200 renowned universities in 58 countries and regions on six continents. It was the lead founder of the Sino-Spanish University Consortium and the Sino-Russian-Belarussian University Consortium and the co-founder of two Confucius Institutes: Confucius Institute of the University of Lagos in Nigeria and Confucius Institute of the University of Saskatchewan in Canada. BIT is building an international university and has created a global network for exchange and cooperation. BIT has entered into student-exchange agreements with more than 60 internationally renowned universities, including Germany's Institute Technische Universität München (Technical University of Munich) and the United States' University of California Berkeley. Of its 19 specialized colleges, 15 have established double-degree programs with eight world-class universities, such as the National University of Australia. The colleges regularly organize different international exchanges, such as summer schools, overseas training, and graduation design projects. The predecessor of the Beijing Institute of Technology is the Academy of Natural Sciences, the first university of science and engineering established by the Communist Party of China in Yan'an. At the beginning of 1940, the Academy of Natural Sciences was born during Counter-Japanese War. It was finally settled in Beijing after undergoing trials and hardships throughout North China.

In 1931 and 1952, Peking Women’s Normal University and Fu Jen Catholic University merged to create Beijing Normal University. For over a century, Beijing Normal University has from the beginning shared a fate as regards the Chinese people’s struggle to gain independence, freedom, democracy, and prosperity, and the university has played a significant role in patriotic movements that have included the May 4th Movement (1919) and the December 9th Movement (1935). Over the years, the school has been home to a large group of renowned intellectuals and scholars, who have promoted culture and stimulated education, to name a few: Li Dazhao, Lu Xun, Liang Qichao, Qian Xuantong, Wu Chengshi, Li Jinxi, Chen Yuan, Fan Wenlan, Hou Wailua, Bai Shouyi, Zhong Jingwen, Qi Gong, Hu Xiansu, Wang Kunren, and Zhou Tingri. The school entered into the first “211 Project” Construction Program during the Ninth Five-Year Plan. On the occasion of the 2002 Centennial Celebration, the Ministry of Education and Beijing Municipality said they attached great importance to collaboration in the development of Beijing Normal University. The Ninth Congress of the Communist Party of China in Beijing listed Beijing Normal University as among the institutions it was supporting to become world-class universities. Over the Tenth Five-Year Plan period, the university was listed on the nation’s “985 Project” Construction program. The main campus (North Taipingzhuang Campus) of Beijing Normal University covers 172.64 acres that serve as an important place for the university to carry out educational activities. The school has 22,000 full-time students, including 8,900 undergraduates, 11,300 graduates and 1,800 long-term international students. The campus has one education faculty, 22 schools and colleges, two departments, and 36 research institutes (centers). The library boasts over 4.1 million volumes and some 17,300 GB of digital resources, with 1,400 GB of e-books. Beijing Normal University promotes broad international cooperation and exchange, having signed cooperative agreements with nearly three hundred universities and research institutes from more than thirty nations and regions and exchanging students through cooperative programs with over fifty universities from places that include the United States, the UK, Japan, South Korea, and Canada. Moreover, BNU has co-established 7 Confucius Institutes, with the University of Manchester (UK), San Francisco State University (US), the University of Oklahoma (US), Dawson University (Canada), Sherbrooke University (Canada), Aalborg University, Denmark, University of Macerata, (Italy) and the College of William and Mary (US). Long-term and short-term international students from over 94 countries and regions study at BNU, with 1,800 autumn-registered long-term international students, of whom 76% are pursuing academic degrees.

As one of the three origins of Jiaotong University, the history of BJTU can be dated back to 1896. BJTU grew out of Beijing Railway Management Institute, China's first higher educational institution, committed to fostering railway management talents and initiating modern China's education in railway management and telecommunication. In 1950, the school was named Northern Jiaotong University, and the president was the famous bridge expert Mao Yisheng. In 1952, the Northern Jiaotong University was revoked. Therefore, the Beijing and Tang campus became independent, and the school was renamed Beijing Railway Institute. On September 10th, 2016, BJTU has held a solemn and straightforward celebration under the theme "Jiao Tong, Chinese Dream." In the celebration meeting, the congratulatory letter of Liu Yandong was readout. Wang Anshunm, mayor of Beijing, and Du Zhanyuan, deputy minister of the Ministry of Education, attended the meeting and delivered speeches. Moreover, ministers of the Ministry of Transport of Russia and Mongolia also sent their congratulatory letters. Five presidents of five Jiaotong Universities jointly issued the Beijing Declaration of Jiaotong University, which marked a new chapter for Jiaotong University in the new future. Representatives from China Railway Association, the Chinese Association for Science and Technology, the Chinese Society of Higher Education, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the State Secrecy Bureau, the State Railway Bureau, the Beijing Municipal Committee and the relevant districts and counties, school directors and co-building units, more than 20 Chinese Academy of Sciences, 6 Chinese Embassy officials, 31 overseas universities, 6 Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan universities and 22 mainland universities, as well as alumni, teachers, and students attended the celebration meeting. Simultaneously, BJTU also held more than ten significant activities, such as the 2016 Global University Presidents Summit, China Transportation Senior Forum, and celebration party. Disciplines BJTU is ranked well in the third round of the national academic assessment. System science was the first, transportation engineering information ranked the third, and communication engineering was the 8th. So far, System science ranked the first nationwide in three consecutive rounds of assessment. After three centuries of development, the school formed an advantage of information, management, and other disciplines for science and technology's traffic characteristics. The university has a complete curriculum system of industry, management, economy, literature, law, and philosophy. BJTU has 14 schools, including the school of electronic and information engineering, school of computer and information technology, school of economics and management, school of civil engineering, school of mechanical, electronic and control engineering, school of electrical, school of science, school of software engineering, school of marxism, school of architecture and design, law school, school of national security, graduate school and school of distance and continuing education. Beijing Jiaotong University Haibin campus was co-founded with enterprises in Huanghua, Hebei province.   9. Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT) is a high-level university that aims to develop chemical talent at the cutting-edge of science and technology. The university was established in 1958 and formerly known as the Beijing Institute of Chemical Technology. As a national key university directly affiliated to the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, and as one of the Project 211 universities and 985 Project Innovation Platforms, BUCT has responsibilities for basic and applied scientific research original, high-tech development and the training of high-level, innovative talent.   13. Beijing Foreign Studies University, or BFSU, is a prestigious university in China under the Chinese Ministry of Education's direct leadership. It is one of China's top universities listed under Project 985 and Project 211, comprising top universities in China. At present, BFSU is one of China's oldest language universities,teaching the most significant number of languages and offering education at different levels. Located in the Haidian District of Beijing,BFSU is divided into two campuses – the West Campus and the East Campus. In 1941, BFSU started as the Russian Language Team in the Third Branch of Chinese People's Anti-Japanese Military and Political College. It was later renamed Yan'an Foreign Languages School under the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China's direct leadership. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the school was put under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs leadership. It was renamed as Beijing Foreign Languages Institute in 1954 and merged with Beijing Russian Institute in 1959. Since 1980, the Institute was put under the direct leadership of the Ministry of Education. In 1994, it took on its current name Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU). Today, BFSU teaches 83 foreign languages and offers education programs at different levels, including doctoral programs in foreign languages and literature, Chinese language and literature, journalism and communication, political science, law, management science, engineering, etc. In more than 70 years, over 90 000 people have graduated from BFSU.
