About Me

  1. Oxley Christian College is a Christian school founded by Life Ministry Centre as a church'schurch's ministry expression. It opened in Warranwood in 1979 with 89 students in Prep to Year 8. The College was relocated to the current site in Chirnside Park in 1983. The founding Pastor of Life Ministry Centre (LMC), H.K. Oxley (OBE), stated in 1983, "We aim to produce a sound, academically trained person with a Christian foundation specifically regarding standards, behavior, and absolutes, in short, a balanced, stable, mature and useful citizen of our community. The Senior Pastor of Life Ministry Centre is Pastor Graham Nelson. When the College was founded in 1979, it was with two key objectives: to achieve the highest academic standards and to do so within a non-denominational, distinctively Christian environment. Still deeply committed to its founding principles, Oxley is widely recognized both for the excellence of its teaching and for the outstanding academic performance of its Year 12 students, of whom the majority gain entry each year into the university programs of their choice. At the heart of the Oxley, experiences are Christian perspectives and values (refer to the School Aims and Statement of Faith below), underpinning all aspects of the College program. Every member of the highly qualified teaching staff is committed to the Christian ethos. Each student is encouraged to develop a deep and enduring personal faith, accompanied by respect for oneself as a unique creation of God and by respect and compassion for others. The College also seeks to identify and nurture the individual student'sstudent's talents, which are valued, cherished, and encouraged as unique, God-given gifts. The College attracts students from diverse cultures and backgrounds – including several students from overseas. The College community welcomes all students and families who embrace the school'sschool's ethos and objectives. The College values and promotes the principles and practices of Australian democracy, including a commitment to an elected government, the rule of law, and equal rights for all before the law. We are also committed to and enjoy the freedom of religion, speech, and association. Our College community practices and actively promotes the values of openness and tolerance. Set in 70 acres of beautifully maintained grounds, Oxley educates up to 1000 students from Early Years to Year 12 on one spacious campus. Contemporary, light-filled buildings overlook the top grade sports oval and the well known Oxley Stadium. All Junior and Senior classrooms are well equipped and air-conditioned. Outstanding specialist facilities include the Senior Science Complex, Performing Arts Centre, Visual Arts and Design Centre, Library Resource Centre, Food Studies Complex, Education Support Centre, and Junior, Senior, and VCE Information Technology Laboratories. There is a Chapel, Theatre, and Assembly Hall. The Oxley Stadium accommodates five competition-sized basketball courts suitable for all indoor sports, a fitness center, and a sports cafe. There are extensive ovals, playing fields, outdoor courts, and play equipment.

  16. Royal Canadian College provides secondary and English as a Second Language instruction to students, including international students and immigrants to Canada, in order that they will be able to fit more easily into Canadian society, find employment, advance to higher levels of education. Our CollegeCollegeCollege attracts students from all over the world, including Belgium, Brazil, Brunei, Canada, Colombia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Poland, Taiwan, Singapore, and the USA. This exposes students at Royal Canadian College to the enriching experience of learning about different cultures in one place. Royal Canadian College (RCC) was founded in January 1989 and registered as a non-profit society under British Columbia Society Act. As a society, Royal Canadian College is governed by a Board of Directors. The CollegeCollegeCollege functioned primarily as an English as a Second Language (ESL) institution at its original campus at Inverness Street in Vancouver. Students in the ESL program attended intensive conversation, grammar, reading, writing, vocabulary, and pronunciation classes. They were also offered classes in computer literacy. RCC registered with the British Columbia Ministry of Advanced Education and subsequently the Private Post-Secondary Education Commission of British Columbia (PPSEC) to offer the ESL program to post-secondary students. A second campus was opened in September 1990 at 2236 West 12th Avenue in Vancouver. RCC started offering a high school academic program (Grades 8-12), soon after being certified by the British Columbia Ministry of Education'sEducation'sEducation's Independent Schools Office. The second campus occupied initially half of the building at 2236 West 12th Avenue but expanded to occupy the entire building by May 1991. The school then closed the original campus at Inverness Street and consolidated all programs at the new campus. Our excellent high school program (Grades 8 to 12) adopts the curriculum set out by the Ministry of Education of British Columbia. With our commitment to offering additional hours of instruction (especially for English courses) and a strong emphasis on academic subjects, our Ministry of Education authorized program is specially designed to prepare students for studies at the post-secondary level properly. To obtain the British Columbia government issued a Dogwood Diploma, students must fulfill the graduation requirements laid out by the Ministry of Education. This includes completing courses in core subject areas, such as English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. In compliance with the Independent School Act, Royal Canadian College maintains valid bonds on a continued basis to afford students protection on their fee deposits. All instructors at Royal Canadian College are licensed by the Teacher Regulation Branch of the Ministry of Education of British Columbia. The English as a Second Language program is an academically oriented secondary school preparation program designed for students whose native language is not English. Subjects taught in our English as a Second Language program include Academic Preparation Reading and Writing, Grammar, Vocabulary and Pronunciation, Conversation, Reading, and Writing. English as a Second Language program is offered on a year-round basis. We are committed to providing students, including international students and immigrants to Canada, with an environment conducive to learning. Experienced British Columbia teaches all classes certified teachers. Our post-secondary initiative leaped forward in January 2000 when our CollegeCollegeCollege signed an articulation agreement with Idaho in Moscow, Idaho, USA. The University of Idaho agreed to recognize first and second-year university transfer credits offered at Royal Canadian College. Our University Transfer program was officially launched in September 2000. We began to offer university preparation and university transfer courses in Arts and Social Sciences, Science (including Computer Science), and Business. Students obtaining transfers to the University of Idaho would eventually obtain a University of Idaho baccalaureate degree in their specialization area. In early 2002, the Royal Canadian College Society purchased a property at 8610 Ash Street in Vancouver. After extensive renovations to the building located within the property, in May 2002, RCC closed the old campus on West 12th Avenue and moved to its current campus at 8610 Ash Street. Today, Royal Canadian College is a dynamic and innovative institution certified by the BC Ministry of Education. RCC'sRCC'sRCC's longstanding goal is to offer high-quality programs that will adequately prepare students for future challenges. The availability of land in the RCC campus allowed the CollegeCollegeCollege to make plans for expansion to improve the physical assets of the CollegeCollegeCollege and allow for further growth in programming. In 2009, RCC obtained a building permit to construct a two-story 5,389 sq. ft. building on the existing campus grounds. The new building was completed in September 2012 and featured additional classrooms, a multi-purpose hall, a specific area, and recreational space. Extensive renovations to the campus grounds have resulted in additional car and bicycle parking spaces and a brand new outdoor multi-use sports court designed for basketball, volleyball, and other related sports. In the past two years, the original building on campus has also gone through extensive renovations, including new flooring, windows, paint, and central air-conditioning, and heating systems. With the completion of our capital project and upgrades to our original building, our plan in the foreseeable future is to work on program development and increasing student enrolment. The long-range objective of RCC is to strive to continue to be a vibrant and relevant institution that will stand the test of time. View full school
  17. Founded in 1905, Rosthern Junior College (RJC) has a strong reputation for delivering well-rounded academic experiences to students for over 100 years. RJC is accredited by the Saskatchewan Ministry of Education and a member of the Saskatchewan Association of Historical High Schools, holding a high education standard. As a high school that teaches from the Anabaptist-Christian perspective, RJC places value on faith, service, leadership, and community in its students' education. We are a Grades 10-12 high school located in Rosthern, Saskatchewan on Treaty Six Territory. Our school is student-centered, community-focused, and rooted in the Anabaptist Christian faith tradition. We welcome students of all cultures and backgrounds, and it is our mission to make a difference in the world by preparing leaders in faith, service, and peacemaking. Our campus living options give learning opportunities in the community, and our innovative educational programs teach to the whole person. A variety of arts and athletic offerings also give students the chance to develop skills outside of the classroom. While RJC has students from many different backgrounds and faith traditions, the school is formally supported by Mennonite Church Saskatchewan & Mennonite Church Alberta. In partnership with home and church, Rosthern Junior College seeks to nurture the development of each student's identity and potential in preparation for a life of faith, service, and peacemaking. As a Christian educational community within the Anabaptist Mennonite tradition, Rosthern Junior College understands that children's education is a shared responsibility of the school, the home, and the church. We strive to integrate sound academic learning, growth in character and faith, peacemaking, and service to God and all creation. This educational endeavor is upheld and undergirded by our Christian values. We are convinced that learning, at best, occurs when academics are bound together with faith and positive relationships and where the focus is the development of the whole person. View full school
  18. Nestled among the pines on a pristine 50-acre historic lakefront property in traditional Anishinaabeg territory, Rosseau Lake College offers a boarding and day school experience that is like no other in Canada. Through a highly innovative, interdisciplinary, and culturally responsive program, we do more than educate students. We empower them. Each RLC student builds a strong personal brand through academic knowledge, relevant workplace experiences, and self-awareness cultivated in our school's natural setting. This personal brand becomes the core of their success here and guides them in acquiring the skills and credentials that will set them apart in their post-secondary studies and professional lives. At Rosseau Lake College, we believe in people. Our core values of Competence, Confidence, and Character highlight the personal focus that encourages our students to bring out their best selves. Experiential educator Kurt Hahn once said that "there is more in us than we know. If we can be made to see it, perhaps, for the rest of our lives, we will be unwilling to settle for less." At RLC, we take pride in showing students the potential that already lies within them and pushing them to realize that potential. Coming to "know thyself" is not easy, but this knowledge allows students to harness their greatest strengths, in line with our motto "Scientia auget vires" (Knowledge increases strength). Could you not take my word for it? Come and see us, meet our incredible team, immerse yourself in nature, and discover why Rosseau Lake College is the best small independent school in Canada. Average class sizes at Rosseau Lake College range from 15—25 students. Our students are known, counseled, and cared for. Our campus consists of four boarding residences and is home to our boarding students and the majority of the teaching staff. We take great pleasure in finding our students' strengths, building their confidence, and nourishing their potential through a personalized learning environment that will prepare them for university, other post-secondary opportunities, and the challenges of the future. Rosseau Lake College's mission is to graduate students with a strong personal brand through a rich culture of discovery. With an engaging and personalized learning system, students will build their brands through knowledge acquisition, workplace experience, and extensive exposure to Rosseau Lake College's natural and pristine setting. Their brand will set them apart in their further education and employment endeavors, and they will continue to return to the school throughout their lives. It was not until 1967 that Rosseau Lake College came into being. The founding Chair of the Board, Roger Morris, hired Mr. R. H. Perry to be its first headmaster. The first session began with 27 students (all boys at this point) and ten more enrolled throughout the year. Students were taught in the main house lounge, the library, and the old laundry room! Grades 8 to 11 were offered in the first year. In the school's second year, 65 boys were enrolled, and the healthy pioneer spirit that exists today at RLC was born. Although many of the original Eaton dwellings have fallen victim to age, antiquated wiring, or overheated chimneys, the site remains unique among independent schools globally. Lady Eaton's gardens still grace the campus, the waters still sparkle, and the winds still whisper through the pines. One of the old canons from Fort Kawandag sits outside the log cabin Lady Eaton used as a sewing room and retreat from the main house. At Rosseau Lake College, culture is at the core of all we do, including academics. Each morning we gather as an entire community in a circle: we sing, give gratitude, look to the day ahead and generally look after each other. This supportive circle then extends to the classroom, and it is within the close-knit community that students best learn and thrive. We understand the incredible value of our small class sizes, but this is only one part of genuinely engaging students in their capacity to think, respond, innovate, create, and reflect. Our Personalized Learning Community is a strategic response to the challenge of motivating students in their learning. Our educators use assessment tools and practices to understand individual student learning styles better. This ensures that teaching approaches and learning environments directly respond to the particular strengths, challenges, and interests of the students. As a result, the learner is truly at the forefront of the learning process. Teachers always collaborate as professionals to create a holistic learning community focused on building relevant skills and competencies for students' benefit now and in the future. Rosseau Lake College believes in providing a world-class, hands-on education focusing on the environment, 21st Century skills, and entrepreneurship. We love to maintain the perhaps unlikely balance of connecting learning to the outdoors and our thriving Outdoor Education Program while also applying cutting-edge technology in a meaningful way. With a core curriculum based on the Ontario Ministry of Education descriptions, Rosseau Lake College believes strongly in understanding each student's learning preferences to foster engagement in the learning journey. Using authentic, real-world problems in the learning process, an RLC education is meaningful and relevant, allowing for a higher degree of engagement and success. In their 12th Grade year, RLC students are asked to stand before their entire community and provide a Personal Brand statement. In doing so, the students capture a sense of whom they are as a person and a learner, reflecting on individual strengths and challenges and the many RLC experiences that have helped shape a sense of self. There is no doubt that our students' intellectual breadth, highly developed personal skills, and high level of self-actualization ensure a competitive advantage when applying to post-secondary programs. 19. In our Lower School, you will discover inquiry-based learning in all classrooms from Kindergarten to Grade 8. Students engage with 'big ideas' and pursue essential and enduring questions – "what is an economy, and how does it impact the human experience?" You will see students Skype interviewing an anthropologist from Kansas. You will hear the excitement of innovation in the robotics lab. You will meet young adults who confidently pursue their passions – academic inquiry, athletic endeavor, or artistic expression in our Upper School. You will see focused, disciplined students leading a Socratic seminar in a literature class, singing a solo in Chapel, or persevering through a two-kilometer time trial in our indoor rowing tank. Cultivating the full potential in each student requires a caring, committed, and world-class faculty. The task also requires intimate relationships that are built day by day, year after year. At Ridley, you will find a community of adults who are excited to build those relationships. As a boarding school, Ridley provides students with a 24/7 experience to cultivate those lifelong bonds with peers and adults alike in the classroom, in the House, on the ice, or in the theater. The reality is that one cannot be sure what children and young adults can do until we challenge them to be their best. At Ridley, students are surrounded by peers who share their sense of purpose, believe in the value of hard work, and build the courage to pursue their dreams. Add to this the experience and care of a community of adults dedicated to nurturing their potential, and you have the Ridley formula. Ridley students are empowered to embrace their individuality, develop who they are, strive for who they will be, and define the lives they will lead. They develop the intellectual, physical, emotional, and social skills needed to succeed. They are inspired to acquire the knowledge, explore the truths, and nurture the values that will allow them to lead flourishing lives. As an IB World School, Ridley is the only independent boarding school in Canada. One of only three in North America is authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) continuum program. Prior study in the IB framework is not a pre-requisite for a Ridley education. New students can enter the program at any level. Our learner-centered approach to education enables all students to adapt quickly and thrive within the program. Ridley also maintains an "open access" policy for any student wishing to undertake the IB Diploma Programme level study as either a selection of courses or a full Diploma Programme. This unique framework has been developed independently of government and national systems. It incorporates best practices identified through educational research and by the IB's global community of schools. These ten attributes are part of a learner profile the IB believes can help individuals and groups become responsible members of local, national, and global communities. Devoted, passionate, and generous are only a few ways to describe our Board Members. The Ridley College Board of Governors is comprised of 16 volunteer members who serve five-year renewable terms. Governors and additional Standing Committee Members generously give their time and talents to serve our school and are committed to the successful governance of Ridley College. Ridley College has spent the past four years working closely with the Board of Governors and Leadership Team to develop a strategic vision that will address its students' future needs and the campus. Founded in 1842 as a Quaker school and established in our current Newmarket location in 1909, Pickering College's mission is to instill in each individual the ability and responsibility to make the world more excellent and more beautiful than they discovered it. Our vision is to develop innovative, courageous, and compassionate global citizens who take action, right to Quaker values. As part of our Quaker values, we celebrate diversity in all aspects of the school. This is reflected both in our Global Leadership Program and our commitment to a co-educational environment. Our unique approach includes educating and developing the 'whole child' by focusing on academic excellence, co-curricular distinction, character, and leadership development. We pride ourselves on providing an individualized approach to learning. This is an exceptional place with a vision that embraces each student as an emotional, physical, and spiritual being. Pickering offers a personalized and progressive learning environment with a faculty dedicated to preparing students for future challenges. Our school mission is to give each student the vision, courage, and skills to make their community more extraordinary, better, and more beautiful than discovered. We firmly believe each person has a capacity for goodness and has the responsibility to attain that goodness. By creating a vibrant, exciting, and challenging learning environment built on trust and respect, we encourage every student to reach beyond what they thought possible. Our mission is to instill in each individual the ability and responsibility to make the world greater, better, and more beautiful than discovered. Our vision is to develop innovative, courageous, and compassionate global citizens who take action, right to Quaker values. Our Values Community is gathering interconnected individuals whose collective actions create a sense of belonging and encourage participation, who accept and take care of one another. Compassion is being sensitive to others' thoughts and feelings and understanding and considering conflicting issues and ideas. It is to show concern and caring for all others in the community, no matter their differences, in a way that creates harmony and peace. Integrity is the courage to act honestly and truthfully in all actions. Respect is valuing yourself and others and the environment in which we exist, based on the principles of simplicity and equality, so that you treat others as you wish to be treated. Responsibility is being accountable for one's actions and behaviors by demonstrating sound judgment and fulfilling obligations. A Pickering College education provides our students with an exceptional learning environment that prepares them for future success. We develop and instill in our students the attributes, values, knowledge, self-confidence, and courage to succeed in post-secondary studies and beyond. Our students develop strong academic skills, but they develop social consciousness and leadership skills to contribute to the world in a meaningful way. Experiential learning opportunities deepen understanding and develop leadership capacity from a global perspective. Our learning community is enriched by bringing together students who represent diverse cultures and perspectives to study and live at our school. Our students work to develop into ethical, responsible, and active citizens who can make a difference in the local and global community. The Global Leadership Program focuses on developing leadership skills and potential in each student from a global perspective, ensuring that our students understand and address complex global issues through the carefully planned curriculum, co-curricular opportunities, community service, authentic experiential learning opportunities, educational partnerships, and cross-disciplinary independent projects. By working with others locally and globally through transformational partnerships, travel, exchanges, community service opportunities, and technological communication, our students experience and appreciate what it means to be an active and responsible global citizen. The Global Leadership Program equips our students to pursue their passions, post-secondary studies, and careers to be influential leaders in a globally competitive and rapidly changing, interconnected world. Pickering College offers all students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12 challenging and meaningful learning opportunities through its Co-curricular Program. If students are to be successful in leading a balanced and purposeful life, they must explore and develop their skills and talents beyond the classroom. This unique program encourages students to participate in various activities, including competitive athletics, recreational sports, fitness, diverse clubs, community outreach opportunities, and art, music, and drama. Our newly expanded Outdoor Education Program (JK-12) engages students in activities that enrich their curricular understanding and present a multitude of benefits from exploring and enjoying our natural heritage to inspire them to be more active stewards of the environment. Through our convenient access to the Blue & Silver farm and a series of progressively more challenging off-campus trips and excursions, our program encourages intellectual, emotional, and social development, leadership as well as age-appropriate risk-taking within a safe learning environment. The Junior School Global Leadership Program – The Foundation Years – focuses on inquiry, creativity, and collaboration. In each grade, students undertake an age-appropriate inquiry, and the school's faculty tie classroom lessons to outdoor education whenever possible. Pickering College offers a dynamic, nurturing, and positive learning environment where a child's curiosity is stimulated, leadership skills are cultivated, and fun-filled interactive learning is meaningful and focused. A low teacher-student ratio and small class sizes (approximately 14-20 students per class) provide an ideal learning environment. As children move through Junior Kindergarten to Grade 5, the emphasis is on building a foundation for lifelong learning and community service. Expectations for academic achievement are set high, balanced with a rich curriculum of competitive and recreational athletics, music and drama, visual arts, and exciting excursions. We believe that each young person should become actively aware of the larger world. Students learn to be good stewards of the earth and its resources. They will respect and value the diverse ways people look, speak, think, and act. They will develop the interpersonal and social skills necessary to learn, work, and play with others harmoniously and confidently. They will learn to recognize, articulate, and make responsible, ethical decisions concerning their health and wellness. They will assume responsibility for their actions and look out for others. Through leadership opportunities, global education, and community service, our students understand local, national, and global civic responsibilities and demonstrate active citizenship through participation in endeavors that serve and benefit those larger communities. Our educators value interdisciplinary studies and make decisions that reflect the students' needs, interests, and special abilities. Our team-oriented approach to teaching and learning creates exciting experiences for all students. Our educators have the professional commitment and passion for making a positive difference in the life of every young adolescent they teach. Pickering College's Senior School program prepares students for the university while also encouraging them to make a difference in the world as ethical, compassionate, and values-based decision-makers. Using the latest technology, including tablet PCs and web-based learning tools, the academic curriculum focuses on excellence and innovation while ensuring students have a solid understanding of core subjects. Students also have countless opportunities to participate in developing leadership skills, community service, sports, and the arts. With a focus on individualized attention, each Senior School student is assigned a faculty advisor, creating a four-year mentoring relationship that inspires students for years to come. The Advisor Program at Pickering College directly contributes to the school's mission to be a leader in education, inspiring individuals to become enlightened citizens who meet high standards for lifelong growth and learning. 22. NJC was founded in 1956 by a visionary British educator named Leonard Wilde. He imagined the possibility of bringing students from Canada and abroad together in an international context that would help inform their world view. The founder of Neuchâtel Junior College, Leonard Wilde, was a British man who had led a peripatetic existence on several continents after graduating from Oxford University, and who had become a professor of English at Neuchâtel’s École Supérieure de Commerce in 1949. He soon realized that Neuchâtel was ideal for young people to acquire French while studying for entry into university in their homeland and to do some traveling. Having already taught in the United States, he decided that he would recruit his students from there. With the support of his supervisor M. Jean Grize, Director of the École Supérieure de Commerce, and enthusiasm of the idea, Dr. Wilde took a leave of absence in 1951-52 to tour the United States, visiting schools and educational authorities. One characteristic of all good students is an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. Our unique school, perched on the shores of Lake Neuchâtel in the beautiful Swiss town of the same name, is ideally suited to students of this kind. Students come to us eager to learn more about the world around them, drawn to change, the sense that the world has more to offer them if they could step outside the boundaries of their local experiences. Neuchâtel Junior College exists for these types of students at this pivotal time in their lives, and here, they learn about themselves as much as they learn about the world. In 1956, NJC’s visionary Founder, Leonard Wilde, knew that “To be a leader today, one must travel the world.” This enduring idea is just as – if not more – relevant today. As much as our students have likely traveled to places with their families before, they have not gone on an extended, independent journey in most cases. The Neuchâtel experience offers a view of the world beyond childhood borders, and our trips are integrated with the curriculum to make the learning experience richer and fuller. The fact that students have chosen this journey to NJC sets them apart from both geographically and personally from where they began, thereby transforming them well beyond the potential of any single school trip experienced before. Over many months, our students explore Western European civilization centers, which helped shape our own culture, giving them knowledge of the past with which to consider the future. They visit unfamiliar and exotic places to gain an insight into the similarities and differences of other cultures in this increasingly global community. Inspired by NJC’s program, our students also learn that they can positively impact each place they visit. This may be through participation in a service rip, involvement in a Model UN activity, or helping to make our school community a better place through personal character, talent, ideas, and leadership. They experience all of this while immersed in their studies, surrounded by inspiring teachers and classmates, and living with a local Swiss, French-speaking family. This formula, unique in the world for over 60 years, consistently opens minds, broadens perspectives, and inspires graduates to make their place in the world more meaningful and purposeful.
