  2. Kobe Institute of Computing (KIC), Graduate School of Information Technology, is just a short walk from Sannomiya Station in the center of Kobe's beautiful city. KIC introduces a program to produce 'work-ready' professional IT personnel who will be prepared for professional roles in the IT industry regardless of their previous field of education or previous work experience. The program curriculum is progressively structured in a way that proceeds from foundations to application & practice. Is it for yourself in order to make your living? That is fine, but we believe you could achieve much more than that. KIC's motto is "Social Innovation by ICT and yourself," which means you develop ideas for solving issues in your society utilizing ICT and take leadership in implementing these solutions for your community, for your country, for society as a whole. We believe technology should be used for social good, not for evil. In order to achieve this, every KIC student learns "Tankyu Practice," our original method to find issues, come up with solution ideas, and improve the ideas through verification processes. Students from 64 countries have learned this method and found it very useful. By learning Tankyu Practice, you are more likely to succeed in your projects. KIC has more international students than local Japanese students, which is unique as a Japanese university. Highly motivated and talented students from various countries learn from each other and our experienced faculty members. We foster highly motivated individuals who can work in various fields, including engineers developing software, building information & communication networks, creating embedded software, and constructing and designing various information systems. KIC graduates can develop management as IT architects and project managers and contribute to international cooperation & social development through information communication technology (ICT). Our Two Targets for Student's Training: Professionals who can provide technical solutions to social issues by designing and maintaining new systems using their ICT skills. Highly insightful experts who can demonstrate leadership in problem-solving practice, with the cooperation of ICT technicians. Students develop their skills through 'ICT' based subjects and 'Social Development and Innovator System' subjects. Students can combine the knowledge and skills through these subjects and apply them to the TANKYU Practice and Specific Themed Research, which lies at the university's heart. For each of the Specific Theme Research issues, students are required to build and verify a hypothesis for providing new value using ICT technology. The students will also perform a thorough investigation and discuss the results and implications. On top of this, students will confirm the uniqueness of their solution by investigating similar solutions and verifying the possibility of realization by investigating income/expense balance through cost simulation. The student's findings are completed as an action plan and written up as a master's thesis. Our faculty consists of experienced corporate pioneers from companies such as SONY and Panasonic to develop skilled professionals. They cooperate with various researchers and education experts to instill practical capabilities through group work and simulated projects. For challenges in the real world, various factors complicate progress, and for such problems, you need to have the power to discover their essence. In the curriculum of KIC, you will develop this power through "TANKYU Practice" exercises and "Specific Theme Research." By taking ICT and social development-related lectures and solving actual issues besides government-sponsored students from developing countries, it is possible to learn about international cooperation, social development, and social innovation. KIC is actively developing academic agreements and cooperation with various institutions both in Japan and overseas, to create a rich educational environment that promotes developing advanced ICT human resources, which can be successful internationally.
  3. Stepney Green Maths, Computing & Science College is a boys’ comprehensive school and one of the top schools in the Borough. We are heavily over-subscribed with long waiting lists. The majority of families are from Bangladesh and therefore most of the students are members of the Muslim faith. We have a small but increasing number of students from other communities. The school is located in the East End of London, close to Canary Wharf and docklands, in an area of social and economic disadvantage but also exciting new opportunities. It is close to residential riverside developments and no more than a mile from the City of London. At Stepney Green Maths, Computing & Science College our vision is to ensure that all our students have the opportunity to gain the qualifications and skills required for them to take their rightful place in a global community. To us, every child matters and we work together with our families to realize our students’ dreams and aspirations. At Stepney Green there is a real drive for academic excellence, coupled with an approach to develop the whole person, making learning enjoyable and exciting. In 2011, Ofsted judged the school as “Outstanding”, and these included teaching and learning, leadership and management, and parents/community links. DCSF has identified the school as a ‘High Performing Specialist School’ and the borough has reclassified the school as Outstanding. We have also gained a second specialism, which is in Science. Our sporting accomplishments are outstanding, our parents are extremely supportive and our staffs are committed to improving their practice. The Governing Body is fully supportive and keen to see Stepney Green realize its potential as a center of excellence for learning and achievement. The school benefits from a variety of funding including Excellence in Cities, National Grid for Learning, Behaviour Improvement Plan, and is part of the Building Schools for the Future program. Stepney Green Maths, Computing & Science College is a vibrant and exciting place to teach, with staff who are extremely supportive of each other. We are very pleased with the improvements we have made but we are also determined to make further progress in the future. We are committed to the idea of continuous school improvement, providing all staff (particularly those new to the school) with excellent training and support, and building a learning community for all. The mission of Stepney Green Maths, Computing and Science College is to develop, motivate, and inspire our pupils, enabling them to succeed in life. Our vision is for all individuals at Stepney Green Maths & Computing College to be successful learners, who enjoy learning, make progress and achieve. Together we aspire to become creative, confident people who can live safe, healthy, and fulfilling lives, thus ensuring we are all responsible citizens who make a positive contribution to society. We are committed to providing an appropriate and high-quality education for all our students. We believe that all children and young people - including those identified with special educational needs and disabilities - have a common entitlement to be fully included in aspects of school life and must have access to a broad and balanced academic and social curriculum. Part of our mission is to ensure all our students make good academic progress, and “become creative, confident people who can live safe, healthy and fulfilling lives”. To this end, our objective is to ensure a wide range of extended school provisions to meet the needs of our school and the wider community. We work with the gradually expanding “Stepney Partnership” to bring together children, families, and staff across the partnership schools of primary and secondary to share fun activities, new experiences, understanding of each other, and expertise. All our students are included on our school trips and we often target different groups to ensure all have the chance to experience new adventures and a different way of learning. We make adjustments to accommodate those with additional needs and ensure all feel welcome and comfortable joining in. Rigorous assessments are made to ensure student's needs are met, safety is of the highest standard, any risk factors are minimal, and thorough evaluations help to inform future planning.
