      About Me

      1. We are a new school that draws on a long and established history of educational excellence. The pioneering work of Frances Mary Buss, 160 years ago, in North London, paved the way for an exciting and inclusive movement in the education of young women. NLCS UK has gone on to build on this innovative approach to education and prides itself on its clear vision of academic excellence and passion for subject knowledge and integrity, as well as its holistic approach to all aspects of an exceptional education. Here at NLCS Jeju, we are building on these foundations to create an optimal environment for our community. If you were to ask current parents why they chose NLCS Jeju, they would tell you that the students here are cheerful, balanced, at ease with themselves and each other - yet excited and enthused by the challenges before them. They might add that we succeed in combining academic excellence with a wealth of co-curricular opportunities, all underpinned by a deep commitment to the individual needs and enthusiasms of each pupil. Whilst we enjoy excellent facilities in a prime location, it is our people that make our school a special place. Our staff embodies a wide range of experience and a wealth of enthusiasm. Our parents are tremendously supportive and contribute a huge amount of time and energy to supporting our activities and events. Our students throughout the School are a real delight to teach and have a genuine appetite for learning. If our ethos appeals to you and your son/daughter, then please contact us to find out more. Whilst we hope that our website provides valuable information, there is no substitute for visiting us only then will you truly feel what makes our school a special place to work and to learn. We are a school that prides itself on the ambitious education we deliver. In part, this is possible due to the inspiration we draw from our mother school, NLCS UK, and the important bond that has developed between the two institutions. We are fortunate that our relationship is genuine and close. We have benefited greatly from NLCS UK carrying out regular inspections and monitoring visits of our school, as well as interviewing and training all our new staff at NLCS UK. As the school has grown and developed, we have inevitably carved out our own identity and we are proud of how this is emulated in our aims which, whilst rooted in the pioneering work of NLCS UK, have been adjusted to fit our sense of what makes for a world-class, holistic, international education in Korea. The aims of our Junior School are to provide an ambitious educational program for all our students and to enable each one to develop academic confidence and independence in his or her learning. Our Junior School is a friendly and warm place for boys and girls aged 3 to 11 (Nursery – Year 6). The class sizes remain small to ensure quality interaction between students and teachers. Within this supportive community, the students absorb themselves in the fun and adventure of learning. Currently, we have 315 students, of which over 20% are international students from China, Japan, the UK, and New Zealand. Our highest priority is to maintain a team of outstanding teachers who will inspire and encourage each student. Students in the Junior School follow a curriculum based on that of NLCS UK. This is an academically ambitious program of learning where our teachers create an environment in which children can actively discover new skills, knowledge, and understanding. We aim to develop internationally-minded young people with an understanding of their responsibility to each other and the wider community. To promote positive attitudes and raise self-esteem, we hold weekly Celebration Assemblies for the whole school. In addition, every child in the Junior School, from Years 3-6 belongs to a House, just as they do in the Senior School. As part of a House team, students learn to work with one another, supporting and leading different ages, as well as engaging with the fun of the school-wide House competition. The Senior School provides a rigorous academic education taught by highly qualified, knowledgeable, and inspiring teachers through lively, active lessons. Students are challenged to think for themselves and to develop their minds independently. In the Senior School, we pride ourselves on working closely with families and students to ensure that all children have high academic aspirations and achieve the success needed to ensure they can enter the foremost universities worldwide. The curriculum at NLCS Jeju is based largely on that of NLCS London. In Key Stage 3 (years 7 to 9) departments write their programs of study that aim to provide students with the knowledge base and skills to take the subjects further but also to develop a love of learning for that subject. In Key Stage 4 (years 10 to 11), students work towards their IGCSE course, and in Key Stage 5 (years 12 to 13) students follow the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma. North London Collegiate School Jeju was founded in 2011 as a Boarding and Day school. We are located on the amazing island of Jeju, in South Korea, but our proud heritage is from the United Kingdom, wherein 1850 education pioneer Frances Mary Buss established the North London Collegiate School. NLCS Jeju has become, in a short period, a reference for excellent international education in Asia, providing an aspirational academic education taught by highly qualified, knowledgeable, and inspiring teachers through interactive, thought-provoking lessons. The strategic geographical location of this island makes NLCS Jeju a suitable school for students from Korea, China, Japan, Russia, and the rest of Asia. Ours was the first international school to be opened as part of the Global Education City on Jeju Island, which is becoming the center of English education in Korea and the educational hub of Asia. We exist to give our students an exceptional platform for life after school. We are immensely proud to say that our students obtain places at the most prestigious universities around the world, and we are confident you will too. View full school

      3. King's College London Mathematics School is run in partnership with King's College London University, to provide high-quality mathematics education in the heart of London. The school was inspired by the Kolmogorov Physics and Mathematics School in Moscow, established in 1965. Our curriculum combines mathematics with physics and computing to give students the key understanding and skills they will need to go on to study mathematical courses at universities. Our extended curriculum, which culminates in an extended individual research project, provides students with a broad understanding of the world around them as well as research, writing and presentation skills. Our lessons take students beyond the content required for examinations, and in doing so we cannot only achieve excellence in public examinations but also inspire students and prepare them effectively for university study and successful careers. Students take A levels in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, and Physics at the end of their second year, and an AS Level in either Computer Science or Economics at the end of the first year. Also, they have the option to complete an EPQ (Extended Project Qualification), equivalent to an AS in scope. The curriculum is broad and well balanced and includes personal development, weekly problem-solving sessions with Ph.D. students, an afternoon of extension and challenge each week, the option to attend a diverse range of clubs and societies, and a weekly opportunity for sport and exercise. King’s Maths School is for students with a particular aptitude and enthusiasm for mathematics and aims to widen participation in mathematical degrees and careers at the very best universities and institutions. We provide an education that: Is both engaging and challenging Inspires curiosity and motivates an interest in further study Equips students with a coherent understanding as well as a procedural fluency Empowers students by developing their thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills Provides students with a welcoming community in which they can feel at home and develop outstanding collaborative skills Enables students to make informed decisions about their futures and effectively supports them to realize their ambitions Enables the progress of every student. At King’s Maths School, you will learn to think rigorously and precisely, but also creatively, to solve problems. You will learn to construct arguments and to justify them confidently. Mathematicians are the world’s greatest problem solvers, and you will join their ranks. Mathematical developments have underpinned the technological and information revolutions that have transformed the modern world, and yet the subject is far more than simply a valuable tool for scientists, engineers, and financial analysts: it is a beautiful, powerful, enriching, and immensely stimulating subject. Our vision is to make the world a better place. We will continue to focus on world-leading education, research, and service and will have an increasingly proactive role to play in a more interconnected, complex world. We will continue to expand the huge contribution King’s makes to London and through that a national contribution within the UK, and beyond that to an international community that serves the world. Formative assessments are ongoing assessments, reviews, and observations in the classroom. The results of formative assessments are used to adjust and confirm instruction is being understood by the student. Summative assessments are used to evaluate the success of the course that has been taught, this can be achieved termly with a final review in the last term. The summative assessment aims to make a judgment on the student's competency and the student's ability to master specific components and raise issues if any. View full school

      6. East London Science School, a dynamic new secondary school in Bromley-by-Bow. We are about to embark on our fifth year as we approach our first set of GCSE grades in August 2018. This year is about turning dreams into reality. However, even now we still hold to the ideals that we started with. To give every child the best possible education we can offer. We are an exciting, friendly, and ambitious school for both our pupils and parents. We have offered 125 places to pupils starting in September 2017 with a waiting list for places. We work very closely on our admissions with Newham. However, we are not restricted to taking pupils from Newham. Our pupils come to us from across East London including Tower Hamlets. What attracts pupils to the East London Science School is a commitment to deliver a high-quality academic education to all pupils regardless of background or ability. All pupils are given the same demanding curriculum from Year 7 onwards. The focus on science means all pupils receive physics, chemistry, and biology lessons from specialist teachers. Whether it's mathematics, English, languages, the arts, or humanities, pupils receive the same rigorous subject specialist education. We aim to give all our pupils a solid foundation of knowledge which they can draw upon for the rest of their lives. Over the past three years, we have seen our pupils put on two Shakespeare productions, take part in a growing number of sports fixtures and inter-school debating competitions. This alongside their impressive academic performance is already proof enough that they are well on their way to success. Our unique enrichment program has taken pupils on well over 500 trips in the last academic year. With visits to venues as diverse as the Greenwich Observatory and Kings College computer science laboratory. During our Enrichment Fortnight pupils visited the University of Cambridge and the University of Oxford. We visited places as far afield as IWM Duxford and Box Hill in Surrey. Our pupils enjoyed residential trips to China, Belgium, New York, and Devon with more planned for next year. We want to open the eyes of every pupil to a whole world of possibilities. We want our pupils’ ambitions to know no limits. We take every opportunity to allow our pupils to hear from leading figures in science and participate in exciting events. Whether it's attending the Royal Society Summer Exhibition or attending New Scientist Live, we want our pupils to find out what it’s like to be involved in science and engineering beyond education. We live in one of the greatest cities in the world. We make sure our pupils have the opportunity to experience everything that London has to offer and more besides. Our enrichment curriculum gives lower school pupils an afternoon out in London every week. Whether they are learning portrait sketching in the Wallace Collection or visiting the Great Equatorial Telescope at Greenwich, it is this first-hand access to such prized venues that sets their imaginations alight. All our girls and boys will receive an excellent academic education which will rival the best on offer in public schools. We aim to give our pupils the confidence to strive for success in everything they do. We will give our pupils a unique space in which their imaginations are set free and given the chance to flourish. All children deserve the best education possible. Education is about more than achieving good grades. We aim to show pupils that ideas have the power to shape the world we live in. We want to instill a love of learning that lasts a lifetime. Good teaching is the best way to open a child’s mind. We expect all our teachers to engage our pupils by intellectually challenging them and bringing knowledge of everything from the sciences, arts, and languages to life. Pupils should be encouraged to nurture their talents and develop new skills. We will foster our pupils’ talents in the arts, sports, and debate to create a space for all our pupils to thrive. Our technical education will give pupils the knowledge and skills necessary for careers in high-tech industries. 8. Since 1885 the Prep has been at the forefront of preparatory schooling in England. Generations of boys (and Nursery-aged girls) have benefited from a school that has embraced change, kept pace with pedagogy and technology, and looked to inspire excellence in its pupils. On 1st September 2011, the school’s name was changed to Dulwich Prep London, launching a new and exciting era in its growth and development. Dulwich Prep London is essentially a boys’ school with about 850 pupils between the ages of 3 and 13. In the Early Years Department, girls are also welcomed. Dulwich Prep London inspires excellence and our greatest success is measured by the character of our boys. Our values sow the seeds of possibility in the mind, heart, and spirit of each boy and create the right culture and the right conditions to allow these possibilities to flourish and become real. For our boys, their time at school is about more than preparation for exams, it is preparation for life. We believe that an education rooted in teaching character is what sets our boys apart. Through Justice, Gratitude, Self-Discipline, Love, Honesty, Humility, Courage, and Service we want to teach our boys how to be kind and offer help where it is needed to play fair and tell the truth no matter who is listening to join in and play their part whilst letting others be heard to appreciate the world around them and how valuable their contribution is and always to have a go. Our school’s priority is the well-being and happiness of the boys. Each boy’s sense of belonging is paramount to his success and the continuing success of the school. Our boys are challenged in their pursuit of excellence and we support each boy as he finds what he is good at. We want our boys to leave us having experienced the very best in pastoral care, teaching, and learning, having enjoyed the most dynamic and demanding academic and co-curricular programs, and having made friends for life. These are the key building blocks for the school, but it is our values that act as the cement which bonds everyone and everything together. Our values create Dulwich Prep London’s special atmosphere. At Dulwich Prep London we recognize that learning is an exciting journey upon which every student embarks and understand that each student’s ‘learning journey is unique. We believe that learning can be seen much like a muscle. The learning muscle can be fuelled, trained, and subsequently strengthened by a plethora of different opportunities and experiences, each tailored to the individual. Through an innovative and challenging curriculum, Dulwich Prep London seeks to foster a growth mindset in all of its students. Many educators want children to ‘reach their potential. At Dulwich Prep London we believe that there is no limit to a child’s potential. Through recognition of endeavor, appropriate challenge, and the development of a learning toolkit we hope to enable every child to find success in the future, most likely in professions or scenarios that we cannot begin to imagine. At Dulwich Prep we seek to promote independence in learning and aim to develop learners who move into senior schools with confidence in their strategies for learning and thus welcome academic challenge. The developmental process is gradual and inextricably linked to maturity, however, support structures and scaffolds are put in place for each student from the very beginning of their learning journey. The curriculum in the Lower School offers a seamless transition from Pre-Prep Years 1 and 2. Many of the subjects continue to be delivered by class teachers, however, the number of specialist subject lessons increases. This helps the boys to become more independent and experience a variety of teachers and teaching styles whilst also enabling the reinforcement of a growth mindset in each boy. Whilst subject knowledge remains an extremely important facet of the curriculum, the focus on skills and the continued incorporation of support for the development of characteristics of effective learning also has great emphasis. A wider range of academic subjects is taught in sets, which help respond to the needs of each individual and provide appropriate challenges for every ability level. Utilizing the foundations laid in previous sections by class teachers, form tutors help provide pastoral support to the boys but also help guide their tutees through the academic rigors of each day. Subjects formerly taught within a topic-based approach become discrete lessons in this section of the school. Specialist Geography, History, RS, Art, and DT teachers help each boy progress through thought-provoking schemes of work which help develop subject knowledge but also, and importantly, new skills relevant to each subject area. The Upper School curriculum prepares boys for exam success whilst continuing to foster a love for learning. Boys are taught to think and reflect on their learning and Costa’s Habits of Mind continue to provide a framework of learning which helps them face and overcome the academic challenge. We recognize that the boys, at this stage in their education, are of ‘secondary’ age and require a curriculum and support network which is relevant, inspiring, and challenging. Beyond the academic subjects, boys enter a creative rotation through Years 7 and 8 where they explore Art, Design and Technology, Music Technology, Cooking, Robotics, and Computing. A careful balance between the academic preparation for exams and the broadening of an individual’s horizons is sought and managed. An appropriate work-life balance is encouraged to ensure boys are learning efficiently and effectively, but most importantly, with passion and drive. Students at the City of London Academy, Shoreditch Park are taught in an environment that promotes academic, creative, sporting, linguistic, and personal achievement: this is ‘The City Experience’. Applications for places at the academy will be made following Hackney Learning Trust’s coordinated admission arrangements. All children applying to the academy, including children with EHCPs and looked after children, will be required to take the GL Assessment, CATS3 Level C test. Children who do not sit the test will be considered after those who sit the test. Applicants will be placed in one of four bands, based on their performance in the test. Approximately the same number of children will be admitted in each of the four bands so that each band represents 25% of the applicants. Children with EHCPs and looked after children are placed in a band. If they are unable to take the test, their band allocation will be based on their primary school teacher assessments. The academy will consider all applicants for places. Where fewer than 188 applications are received, the academy will offer places to all those who have applied. The core purpose of the academy is to help students learn. We do this by developing comprehensive, detailed teaching and learning strategies that foster excellent academic progress. The City of London Academy Shoreditch Park ensures all our students have the essential skills to achieve in later life and opportunities to excel in every subject. The academy operates an extended day for all students the libraries are open before and after school and our staff offers a range of extra-curricular activities including an Additional Studies program of enrichment classes, two evenings a week. The PE department also runs sports clubs all year round alongside training sessions for the academy’s competitive squads before and after school. Students with special educational needs (SEN), those who are more able in a particular subject, and the majority of students who fit into neither of these categories all need support and challenge. We do not compromise on students achieving exceptional levels of academic progress. We are rigorous in our teaching whilst ensuring that we engage students’ interests and inspire them to achieve the highest academic standards. Behaviour is exceptional, classrooms are focussed and students are required to complete their classwork, and the regular homework we set them, to the best of their ability. It is our role to set the strategic direction for the academy, working with the Chief Executive Officer, Principal, and Senior Leadership Team in helping to create a culture of high expectations, aspirations, and scholastic excellence. Our brand new academy opened in September 2017. We are currently based in a purpose-built, modular building, where we will be for the first three years and are due to move to our permanent, brand new building in Shoreditch Park in September 2020. In nature, ethos, and approach the school is modeled on The City Academy, Hackney, an 'Outstanding' academy that is renowned for achieving world-class standards for its students. The City Academy, Hackney made more academic progress than in any other school in Hackney and was in the top seven secondary schools in the country for progress in 2014, 2015, and 2016. We intend to quickly establish the City of London Academy Shoreditch Park as a center of excellence for secondary education in the South of the borough as The City Academy, Hackney is in the East. We support children to be caring, respectful, courteous, democratic, and responsible so that they make a positive contribution to British society and the global community. We endeavor to ensure all children make the optimum progress to achieve their full potential and as such, there is a strong commitment to reducing barriers to learning for all pupils. We set aspirational pupil targets and through the careful tracking of pupil assessment data. View full school
      14. The City of London Freemen’s School was set up to look after the orphaned children of Freemen of the City. The school was founded in Brixton in 1854 to educate boys and girls - we have always been co-educational, it is an essential part of our character. Not only committing right from the start to a charitable, co-ed, broad education, we have also continuously admitted boarders alongside our day pupils. In 1926 the City Corporation moved us out to Ashtead Park, which we do consider to be a stroke of genius! We really do enjoy the best of locations - a leafy Surrey Hills site, but wholeheartedly connected to the square mile and only a short train journey into Waterloo or Victoria. Since then, our site has expanded to accommodate swelling numbers and to support our children’s development in excellent facilities. You can be sure that the interests of the children will always come first here. Both teaching and learning across all age ranges will always be at the heart of any ongoing and future decisions which we and our team will make, taking Freemen’s forward. Boarding students are now housed in a custom-built boarding house and our new music school is replete with modern technology and an acoustically exceptional recital hall. We are in the midst of an ambitious development of the school’s provision: our ultra-modern, award-winning, swimming pool is spectacular our sixth form is being reformed- within and without the fabric of the buildings, with our dynamic Free Minds program. It is an exciting time to join Freemen’s. We want children at Freemen’s to learn, to lead, and to make a difference. We will do this by: Nurturing a community of learners – adults and children – who are ambitious about what they might achieve in and out of the classroom Providing relevant opportunities for pupils to expand their horizons intellectually and socially athletically and creatively emotionally and spiritually Establishing an environment at Freemen’s where everyone involved in the community is respected, trusted, and supported Encouraging responsibility and capability honesty and reliability pride and passion Promoting determination and innovation flexibility and adaptability kindness and consideration Fostering in our pupils the confidence, curiosity, independence, and wisdom to succeed in the next stages of their lives. Each of our existing secondary academies provides learning experiences that reflect the characteristics for which the City is known around the world: High expectations, aspirations, excellence, and a belief that all can succeed Contributing creativity, innovation, and enterprise alongside tradition and heritage Developing people who are confident, resilient, compassionate, and democratic Our overarching ethos for the City of London Academy Highgate Hill will be: To develop the potential and character of all students in all global spheres academic, social, cultural, and spiritual To nurture students who are creative, curious, and compassionate into adults who can make a positive and significant contribution to our world To recognize the importance of fostering understanding and respect for other cultures and faiths To promote the importance of developing positive relationships with others, resolving conflict through reconciliation and forgiveness To promote equal opportunities for all The city of London believes that every student is entitled to high-quality academic, creative, sporting, linguistic, and personal development opportunities. Like all City Academies, the new school will draw on the City of London’s unique and exceptional range and quality of resources. Education both influences and reflects the values of our society and the kind of society we want to be. It is therefore important to recognize a set of common aims, values, and purposes that underpin the school curriculum and the work of schools. Learning at COLAHH is an exciting process of explanation, discovery, and achievement. We encourage and guide our students to take responsibility for their work, to become independent learners who ask questions, solve problems and communicate their ideas with confidence and clarity. Our lessons are interactive and practical with an emphasis on teamwork, participation, and enjoyment at every opportunity. We offer a wide and varied curriculum at each Key Stage, backed up by superb facilities throughout the college including our purpose-built design and technology center. All students will follow a two-year program and begin GCSEs in all subjects in year 9. All students will follow the national curriculum unless the academy (in consultation with students and parents) feels they would benefit from not doing so. In line with our sister academy, we aim to raise standards and aspirations through leading by example. In our other Hackney school, The City Academy, Hackney 90% of students reach national standards and above in English and maths at Key Stage 3, the progress we are expecting of our students will be well above the national average. All students will study GCSEs in English, maths, and science, and there will be a wide selection of options across the remaining subjects. The vast majority of students will follow the English Baccalaureate in Key Stage 4. Our GCSE options subjects will include many of those taught throughout Key Stage 3 such as art, music, and technology as well as additional choices including computing, economics, and vocational subjects. In time, the academy will grow to include a vibrant academic Sixth Form. Our Sixth Form will aim to develop young learners into independent, studious, and professional young adults, by insisting on the same core values that characterize the work of the academy as a whole. They raise funds for special events and extra activities the children have requested, help when extra adults are needed on excursions or in school. The Parents’ Council has meetings approximately every 6-8 weeks and is represented at the Board meetings. They are governed by guidelines decided by the Board. The Norwegian School in London follows the Norwegian National Curriculum, “Kunnskapsløftet” and this is the basis for our year plans and theme plans. The five basic skills speaking, reading, writing, Maths, and ICT, form the core of the curriculum and are integrated into the competence aims. The curriculum focuses on pupil development in basic skills. These basic skills form the core of assessment in all subjects and are the main focus during the bi-annual development conversations between the teacher, the pupil, and the parents. The teachers have a strong focus on differentiation in lessons and use varied methods of assessment for learning. We also emphasize British values democracy, rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance for those who have different faiths and beliefs. The Norwegian School provides an academic, creative, positive, and secure environment in which students are encouraged to develop a thirst for learning, a broad outlook, and a zest for life. Respect, cooperation, and trust are central to our school ethos. The school has its special needs coordinator (SENCO) who coordinates all special needs education at school. Fylkesmannen I Oslo of Akershus and PPT Utland have responsibility for the operation of an educational psychology service for students at private Norwegian schools abroad. Students at the Norwegian School in London should not be exposed to offensive words or actions such as bullying, discrimination, violence, racism, or exclusion at school or on the way to school. Furthermore, the school is aware of its duty to protect pupils from radicalization, extremism, and female genital mutilation. At the Norwegian School in London, all pupils and parents experience being taken seriously if they go to school with a concern that a student is exposed to offensive words or actions. The Head Teacher has overall responsibility for the school to follow up on matters relating to the psychosocial environment. 19. The Norwegian Kindergarten in London is an educational opportunity for children from two and a half years old to school age. This applies either for starting English school at five years old or starting at The Norwegian School at six years old. We aim to be the natural choice for Norwegian families who move to London. We emphasize both the Norwegian and English language and culture. Each class in the Kindergarten will have at least one English-speaking and one Scandinavian-speaking member of staff. This helps the children to learn English from the start. We also aim to give the older children activities which prepare them for starting school. In addition, we can give necessary language training before starting school. Our children´s social and language skills reach a high level of development over the year. A place must be taken up no later than four weeks after the place is available. Payment is required for the entire period from the day that the place has been allocated. The Kindergarten shall meet the children with trust and respect, and acknowledge the intrinsic value of childhood. They shall contribute to well-being and joy in play and learning, and shall be a challenging and safe place for community life and friendship. The Kindergarten shall promote democracy and equality and counteract all forms of discrimination. Kindergarten has fewer children per adult than the English statutory regulations demand. This means that we can be run with a Norwegian approach. The children play outside every day, and unless exceptional conditions prevent this. There is also an outing once a week where we use playgrounds and parks nearby. The organization of the Kindergarten will vary from year to year depending on how many children join. Regardless of the way it is organized in any year, each class will always have a pre-school teacher or a person with similar qualifications who is responsible for the educational plans. The Kindergarten is run in the same building as the Norwegian School, which is very convenient for families with children both in the School and in the Kindergarten. Equally, the transition to school is easy as the children already know the building, as well as children and staff members at the School. The Norwegian Kindergarten in London is a registered English charity. The Board of Governors is the supreme body representing the owners. The Board is responsible for running The Norwegian Kindergarten in London by English and UK law. The Board is responsible for the overall financial situation at any time and to plan, implement and report financial plans, annual budget, and accounts to UK authorities. The Board is the employer for all positions. The Board shall ensure that The Norwegian Kindergarten in London continues to develop as an attractive educational opportunity and will make long-term plans for the future of the kindergarten. The keeping children safe in education statutory guidance (September 2016) states that safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone´s responsibility. Everyone who comes into contact with children and their families and carers has a role to play in safeguarding children. To fulfill this responsibility effectively, all professionals should make sure their approach is child-centered. This means that they should consider, at all times, what is in the best interest of the child. We aim to form excellent relationships with families so that we understand our children as individuals and can identify any type of concern that may arise. We work closely with parents in making decisions to enhance their child’s development and happiness. The Norwegian Kindergarten will endeavor to create an atmosphere that encourages good and positive behavior, we believe that children flourish best when they know how they are expected to behave and gain respect through interaction with caring adults who show them respect and value their personalities. Children need to have set boundaries of behavior for their own and others' safety. Within the Kindergarten, we aim to set these boundaries in a way that helps the child to develop a sense of the significance of their behavior, both on their environment and those around them. This policy will identify to staff a whole Kindergarten approach to the management of children`s behavior, including development strategies to be used in response to negative behavior and to involve parents and carers where needed. We expect all members of our setting – children, parents, and staff to keep to guidelines, requiring these to be applied consistently. We also work in partnership with children`s parents and carers who are regularly informed about their child`s behavior. View full school
      20. We offer a truly child-centered learning experience for our pupils and we are proud of the outstanding outcomes that we create at every stage of our children’s development. We provide an ‘education for the future environment that encourages a love of learning and high standards, whilst instilling a strong moral foundation in every child. Children’s best interests lie at the heart of everything we do, and each child’s inner potential is unique and precious. We create the necessary space and structures to support the growth of balanced, outstandingly educated, creative individuals. A London Acorn School education is best received when a child’s home and school life are compatible. We believe this can be achieved through sharing a set of values that encompasses all aspects of their life. We encourage parents to be mindful of the need to maintain consistency. Refer to this School Handbook, the details of your family agreement, and your child’s class teacher for guidance on how to make the very most of a London Acorn School education with your child. Throughout the year, there are festival days and events where children, parents, and staff come together. Parents attend many of these occasions, where they fully enjoy what it means to be part of this community school. Although it is possible to teach young children academic subjects, we wait until the children are nearly seven to start this. We feel the extra time in Kindergarten is well spent, and are keen to protect children’s right to an unhurried childhood. We have a proven track record that our children soon learn the same skills as their peers who start formal lessons at four and a half. The London Acorn Kindergarten can offer your child from 3 to 7 years old a secure, unhurried, and beautiful setting where we believe that play is the serious work of childhood. In kindergarten the emphasis is towards learning through play, enabling your child to develop the skills for lifelong learning. The celebration of festivals throughout the year guides the child from one season to the next, whilst allowing the children time to wonder, be in awe, and have gratitude for the earth, others, and themselves. This requires a creative and mutually supportive partnership between parents and teachers. The Lower School starts with children aged 6 or turning 7 during the academic year, and proceeds to Middle School until the child reaches the age of 14. The curriculum for these younger students is designed to help them form an understanding of the world and their relation to it through lessons and activities that encourage the development of their inner senses, such as intuition and imagination, along with important skills such as literacy, numeracy, arts and crafts. These early years are when the children are actively discovering the world around them through their senses and growing faculties. Lesson subjects are therefore shaped to support this aspect of pupils’ growth and incorporate an abundance of physical and practical activities, which support this stage of development. The subjects took expand in range as the children get older and enter a second developmental stage with the emergence of feeling as a perceptive medium within the individual. The curriculum content, therefore, changes accordingly, to include more creative subjects and to provide an outlet and a platform for self-expression and exploration. The school offers a broad range of academic studies. Students study traditional subjects such as Maths, Humanities, English, French, and Science. One key strength of the academic curriculum, both in the Lower, Middle, and Upper schools, is the ‘main lesson’. These thematic lesson blocks allow pupils to explore a subject for four weeks at a time. The pupils produce beautifully illustrated books, written in their own words. They are proud of these academically and artistically. This intensive approach leads to lasting knowledge and encourages ongoing engagement with the subject. At our school, we recognize that the most fundamental requirement for all children is that they feel safe and secure, physically, emotionally, and socially. Students need to feel safe to thrive and learn. They need to feel secure to want to participate. We take very seriously our responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all the pupils in our care. Please read our Safeguarding Policy and Anti-Bullying Policy which set out the policies and procedures we have in place. We will take appropriate action if we have concerns about a child’s physical, emotional or social well-being, and please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any concerns. View full school

      24. As a Church of England School, we seek to provide a Christian education for the children of the parish of St. Peter’s London Docks and for those who elect to come to our school. Children are presented with the teachings of the Christian faith as the revelation of God’s truth and are encouraged to grow in that faith, respecting the beliefs and cultures of others. Education is seen as being concerned with excellence in learning and for the spiritual and social growth of children, developing the individual potential of each child to the fullest. Every day at St Peter’s Primary School, the staff & governors work to make sure that St Peter’s children: Have respect for themselves and others. Are enthusiastic, enquiring learners. Know what it feels like to have done their best and achieve. Understand the value of prayer and its place in their lives. Understand the importance of goodness, honesty, and hard work. Have a clear set of values understanding their rights and responsibilities. Have the skills and opportunity to work collaboratively. Have shared friendship & learned how to get along well with other people. Have happy memories of their time with us. Have aspirations to embrace every opportunity to further their education, knowledge, skills, and interests, throughout their lives. At St Peter’s lots of learning takes place in cross-curricular lessons based on a theme. Each term every class studies a different theme, some are science-based, some are historical and others have a geographical bias. Our literacy work is often based around ‘Dramatic Improvement in Writing’ themes which feedback into our creative curriculum topic. For example, our year one child read ‘Whatever Next!’ and write about baby Bear’s adventures as part of their ‘To Infinity and Beyond!’ space theme. Literacy learning focuses on children rehearsing their ideas orally through drama and speaking and listening activities to fully engage children in the writing process and develop their technical and creative writing skills. At St Peter’s we view ‘learning beyond the classroom’ as an essential part of our children’s learning and development. We realize the importance of our children making links between what they have learned in school and their local community and beyond. As such, we actively build opportunities for regular trips and visits to museums, galleries, theatres, and places of interest. We think carefully about providing our children with ‘tasters’ for a wide range of culturally enriching experiences which include: our year 6 children annually attending ballet/opera at the Royal Opera house, our KS2 children visiting a West End production each year, and taking children to eat together at a restaurant. At St Peter’s we are a ‘Sing Up’ school as we value the shared experience that collective singing brings to our children and developing their sense of community. We seek out opportunities for our children, and our school choir, to perform to an audience as well as work in partnership with other local schools through projects such as ‘Tower Voices.’ Our Music coordinator teaches music sessions linked to classes’ creative curriculum themes. In addition, our lower Key stage two classes learn to play the guitar, whilst our upper key stage two classes develop their percussion skills through learning to play the Glockenspiel. The instrumental tuition is provided by high-quality professionals from the Tower Hamlets Arts and Music Education Service (THAMES). This includes opportunities for pupils to learn saxophone, keyboards, violins, and guitars after school. As a school with ‘Advanced Healthy Schools’ status, we focus on children’s personal, health, social and emotional development. Our PSHE lessons are focused on key aspects of developing a “whole child”, British values, and our school values. Every class takes part in regular circle time sessions and our values also feature regularly in whole school assemblies. The staff is proud that inclusion is at the heart of all our practice. We believe that an inclusive school is a successful, happy school. We aim to provide an environment that is a safe, respectful, and fun place for every pupil to learn. By staff ‘living’ the school's vision and values we ensure that all pupils are included in all aspects of learning and school life. Our values also inform how we work with parents and each other as a staff team. View full school
