About Me

  1. With a history of excellence and a focus on the future, the United States Air Force Academy instills cadets with pride and integrity while preparing them to serve their country and succeed in 21st-century careers. As a public university and a military service academy, we lead the way into an increasingly complex future, driving advancement and innovation in air, space, and cyberspace, among countless other fields. Whether you come to Colorado Springs for the world-class education, military training, Division I athletics, or character-building challenge and adventure, one thing is sure, the Academy experience—more than 60 years in the making—is unlike any other. The United States Air Force Academy does not just graduate cadets. It produces the Nation’s best leaders of character. From the application process to the first day of Basic Cadet Training, the Academy seeks out and trains cadets to adhere to qualities of moral excellence to final exams. At the United States Air Force Academy, our rigorous academic program balances Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) with the arts and humanities. Our robust core curriculum places cadets at these disciplines' intersection, generating opportunities to cultivate and apply creative and complex problem-solving abilities. This challenging yet rewarding academic program continues to garner national recognition. We offer 27 majors and four minors, unique research opportunities, and a variety of post-graduate scholarships. Our faculty and staff are dedicated to developing cadets as officers and scholars, stoking intellectual curiosity, and committing lifelong learning. This academic program is woven into the Academy's broader fabric and its programs in character and leadership development, athletics, and airmanship. Academy graduates are well-equipped with the knowledge, skills, and responsibilities necessary to serve the Air Force and the Nation as character leaders. Here at the Air Force Academy, we are committed to meeting the highest ideals of a broad, liberal education while also providing our cadets with the best possible preparation for a lifetime of service to the Nation. Achieving this balance is one of the most unique and critical contributions of the Air Force Academy to the officer corps. No other commissioning source can create the collaborative blending of rigorous academics, military training, character and leadership development, and competitive athletics than what defines the four-year experience cadets have at the Air Force Academy. Nowhere is the Academy’s commitment more evident than in the Core Curriculum, which all cadets are required to complete. As part of the Core, all cadets, regardless of academic major, complete 29 Dean of Faculty courses across a variety of academic disciplines while also engaging in military training programs, participating in seminars and symposia offered by our Center for Character and Leadership Development, and completing required Physical Education courses offered by our Director of Athletics. Importantly, these diverse programs are purposefully integrated to create a one-of-a-kind four-year experience that prepares our cadets to serve as commissioned officers in the greatest Air Force in the world. There are two libraries in the United States Air Force Academy Library (DFLIB) system that support faculty and staff, cadets, and other patrons of the Academy—McDermott Library and the Base Library. There are many cutting-edge learning centers, historical relics, and outdoor retreats to explore at the United States Air Force Academy. Each contributes to the unique experiences had by our visitors, cadets, faculty, and more. Visit our renowned, all-faiths Cadet Chapel, with its towering spires reaching 150 feet in the air, or sneak a peek at Polaris Hall, home to our new Center for Character and Leadership Development. Head over to Falcon Stadium to catch a game or attend a STEM outreach event at one of our 19 research centers. Whether you are here as a visitor, cadet, or staff member, one thing is sure, the Academy experience—decades in the making—is unlike any other. Research is a staple of our educational program, with increasingly diverse interdisciplinary programs encompassing more than 20 research centers and institutes. The research significantly enhances the cadet learning experience by providing rich, independent learning opportunities and fostering the critical thinking skills necessary to succeed as leaders in the Air Force and beyond. The United States Air Force Academy is the No. 1 funded undergraduate research institution in the country, according to a survey conducted by the National Science Foundation. Also, Forbes recently named the Academy the No. 5 Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) school. Our research program is fueled by partnerships, with 19 centers and two institutes, cadets, faculty, and industry all working together to benefit tomorrow’s, Air Force. As aviation advanced after the Wright Brothers’ first flight, the Nation’s military aviation service followed a constantly growing lineage from 1907 to 1947. Officials discussed establishing an aeronautical academy for decades, and when the Air Force became a separate service in 1947 under the National Security Act, plans for an Air Force Academy officially got underway.
  2. The U.S. Coast Guard Academy is proud to educate leaders of a multi-mission, maritime military force. Commissioned officers in the Coast Guard lead teams of men and women and are continually called on to serve their community, country, and fellow citizens. While the United States Coast Guard is notable as the oldest life-saving service in the world, its roles include more than just maritime safety and security. The Coast Guard is also called upon for critical service in protecting natural resources, maritime mobility (management of maritime traffic, commerce, and navigation), and national defense. At our beautiful campus on the Thames River in New London, Connecticut, the Academy, which is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, provides a four-year Bachelor of Science degree program with a full scholarship. Each year, approximately 200 ensigns (or junior officers) are commissioned during graduation exercises in May. Following graduation, newly commissioned ensigns report for duty aboard cutters and at sector offices in ports nationwide. Graduates of the Academy are obligated to serve five years in the U.S. Coast Guard, though many choose to stay and make a rewarding, life-long career of their maritime military service.

At USU, one credit hour is defined as 15 hours of direct faculty instruction and a minimum of 30 hours of out-of-class student work for the eight-week session. USU’s definition of a credit hour is consistent with the federal regulation (CFRs 600.2 and 600.4), which defines the credit hour as “the amount of work represented intended learning outcomes and verified by evidence of student achievement that is an institutionally established equivalency that reasonably approximates not less than: One hour of classroom or direct faculty instruction and a minimum of two hours of out-of-class student work each week for approximately fifteen weeks for one semester or trimester hour of credit, or ten to twelve weeks for a one-quarter hour of credit, or the equivalent amount of work over a different amount of time. At least an equivalent amount of work as required in paragraph (1) of this definition for other academic activities as established by the institution, including laboratory work, internships, practica, studio work, and other academic work leading to the award of credit hours.” One hour of direct faculty instruction is equal to 50 minutes of classroom time. In courses in which direct instruction does not apply, a credit hour may be measured by an equivalent amount of work, as demonstrated by student achievement. For nursing laboratory and clinical courses, one credit is awarded for 48 hours of supervised laboratory or clinical instruction. Student Services works with every student to orient them to the University and understand policy and procedures. 4. Work in the $400 billion sports industry is an exciting and appealing career choice for today's students. Whether you need a degree, continuing education, or a course or two, the United States Sports Academy has a wealth of sports courses in which you can enroll. With rolling registration, you can begin at your convenience. That is just one reason 96% of Academy graduates say they would recommend us to friends and colleagues. The United States Sports Academy awards the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees. Especially in the master's programs, learning in the field complements study in courses. Internships (in your local area, unless you choose otherwise) help build the professional networks that lead to satisfying employment. Alumni of the United States Sports Academy make up another network, one of sports' most extensive. Many reports indicate that the number of graduates who get to work in a career studied is approximately 20%. But more than 2/3 of Academy alumni work in the sports industry. They are managers, teachers, administrators, entrepreneurs, coaches, healthcare providers, and researchers—and they are all about sports at the professional, Olympic, collegiate, interscholastic, and recreational levels. The United States Sports Academy was the first and is the only one in the United States. It was established in 1972 to turn around a new scientific finding that linked poor preparation of coaches to the injuries incurred by the athletes they supervised. Today, coaches everywhere can prepare thoroughly for their work. Through sports-focused instruction, support of research, and teamwork with professional groups like the National Federation of State High School Associations, the Academy showed how to meet sports professionals' educational needs. The Academy's first decades have also coincided with the general awakening to the role of exercise in health and the value of individual commitment to healthy living. This has meant expanding employment opportunities for our graduates. The United States Sports Academy is America's Sports University, with graduates worldwide. And we are ready to come to you. The United States Sports Academy, known worldwide as America's Sports University ®, features the world's most extensive sports education program. The role of the Academy is to prepare men and women for careers in the profession of sports. The Academy was founded in 1972 with the mission to upgrade the profession of sport within the United States, was in a state of disarray at the time. It was clear that the best means of addressing this situation was through education. So the initial impetus for the creation of the Academy came from the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA). These professional sports administrators and coaches whose backgrounds also included working in an educational environment played an instrumental role in developing the Academy's curriculum. Thus the Academy almost half a century ago became the first and only free-standing, accredited school of sport in America, a distinction that continues to this day. The curriculum and degree offerings of the Academy include the Bachelor of Sports Science (B.S.S.) in four disciplines, Master of Sports Science (M.S.S.) in five disciplines, and Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Sports Management. The Academy also offers a wide array of continuing education and certificate programs. The Academy's reach has been enormous, having delivered sport education programs in more than 65 countries worldwide. Our innovative experiential mentorship program gives students an edge in the job market, and our alumni benefit from our vast network of professional contacts throughout the world of sport. Likewise, today's institution is technologically driven, with all of our courses being delivered through online delivery. 5. The United States Merchant Marine Academy is a federal service academy that educates and graduates leaders of exemplary character who are inspired to serve the national security, marine transportation, and economic needs of the United States as licensed Merchant Marine Officers commissioned officers in the Armed Forces. With 95 percent of the world's products transported over water, these leaders are vital to our merchant fleet's effective operation for both commercial and military transport during war and peace. Academy graduates abide by the motto "Acta Non-Verba" - deeds not words, and are leaders that exemplify the concept of service above self. Known for its rigorous academic program, USMMA requires more credit hours for a baccalaureate degree than any other Federal service academy. This challenging coursework is augmented by the Academy's Sea year experience, allowing midshipmen to acquire hands-on, real-world experiences aboard working commercial vessels sailing to ports worldwide. For this reason, Academy graduates are highly sought after as officers in the military and the merchant marine. This merchant fleet of efficient and productive commercial ships owned by U.S. companies and registered and operated under the American flag forms an essential part of our domestic and international transportation system. U.S. Merchant Marine graduates play a vital role in this industry, vital to America's economy and continued prosperity. In a time of war or national emergency, the U.S. Merchant Marine becomes vital to national security as a "fourth arm of defense." Our merchant ships bear the brunt of delivering military troops, supplies, and equipment overseas to our forces and allies operating as an auxiliary unit to the Navy. The stark lessons of the twenty-first-century conflicts again prove that a healthy merchant marine is an essential part of American security and sea power. The nation's economic and security needs met by the U.S. Merchant Marine are compelling. Today, the United States imports approximately 85 percent of some 77 strategic commodities critical to America's industry and defense. Although we, as a nation, account for only six percent of the world population, we purchase nearly a third of the world's raw materials output. Ninety-nine percent of these materials are transported by merchant's vessels. But the most crucial element in a productive merchant fleet and strong transportation industry is people - men and women who can lead with integrity, honor, intelligence, dedication, and competence. The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy ensures that such people are available to the nation as shipboard officers and as leaders in the transportation field who will meet the present and future challenges. Our mission is "To educate and graduate leaders of exemplary character who are inspired to serve the national security, marine transportation, and economic needs of the United States as licensed Merchant Marine Officers and commissioned officers in the Armed Forces." A United States Merchant Marine Academy education is one of the great adventures of a lifetime. For half a century, young individuals like you have come to Kings Point to acquire the knowledge, experience, discipline, and skills that strong leadership demands. Graduates of the United States Merchant Marine Academy serve their country by pursuing highly successful careers in the maritime industry and the armed services. After fulfilling their obligation, many continue their studies in graduate or professional schools. Many become outstanding government and business leaders. The direction you take after you graduate will be up to you. However, two things are certain: You'll have choices, and you will be prepared to make the most of them. While getting here may not be easy, it will be one of the most rewarding experiences of your lifetime. Whether you're learning about us for the first time, deciding whether to attend, looking for additional information, or mentally preparing yourself for the challenges and rewards of a Kings Point education, we've done our best to bring together the information you need for the journey. Welcome, and good luck. It is the Financial Aid Office's goal to ensure that all students who are accepted to the Academy can attend, regardless of financial need. Midshipmen attending the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) receive their full tuition, room and board, uniforms, and books at no cost from the Federal Government. The Academy's four-year program centers on a regimental system that instills its students - called midshipmen (a term used for both men and women) - with the traits of leadership, discipline, and dedication required for a career that typically may include service at sea, maritime employment ashore, and serving as a commissioned officer in a reserve component of the U.S. Armed Forces. The Academy's Regiment of Midshipmen numbers approximately 950 young men and women who represent every state of the Union as well as U.S. Trust Territories and Possessions. The student body's size contributes to a real sense of camaraderie among the members of the Regiment and permits the Academy to maintain an excellent student-teacher ratio. A sound college education is a foundation for every profession in our society, and the mariner's profession is no exception. The Middle States Commission accredits the academic curriculum at the Academy on Higher Education. It provides each midshipman with the broad college education required for a bachelor of science degree, specialized training for licensing as a marine merchant officer, and the military knowledge for commissioning in a reserve component of the Armed Forces. Few colleges can offer such a full range of credentials at graduation.
  6. The United States Military Academy has been educating, training, and inspiring leaders of character for our United States Army and the nation for more than 200 years. West Point provides a 47-month leader-development program steeped in academic rigor, military discipline, and physical challenges, all built upon a moral-ethical foundation. The academy is an internationally recognized institution for academic, military, and physical excellence, and we are proud that today's cadets will become tomorrow's military, public and private-sector leaders. West Point's purpose is to produce leaders of character who are prepared to provide selfless service to our Army and the nation. West Point provides a broad-based and balanced curriculum to ensure graduates acquire knowledge, skills, and attributes necessary for them to effectively address the complex and uncertain challenges they will face in their personal and professional lives. When students enter the United States Military Academy at West Point, they are beginning a profession. Career development starts on the first day everything cadets experience is focused on developing them as leaders of character who will serve as officers in America's Army upon graduation when they are commissioned as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army. As they begin their military careers, they become leaders of Soldiers, and each new promotion brings additional responsibility and increased opportunity. West Point is about choosing a direction in life that puts service to the nation first and allows each graduate to be a standard-bearer for their generation and future generations. The cadets who graduate as commissioned officers and serve the nation are our lasting legacy and make West Point great. West Point strives to admit the best and brightest each year to ensure that the classrooms are places of intellectual rigor and stimulation, places where knowledge passes not just from instructor to cadet, but from cadet to cadet. West Point's Academic Program is a foundation for developing critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills. It includes a substantive set of fully integrated core courses that provide an appropriate balance between technical topics and the humanities. Cadets choose their areas of depth from more than 40 academic majors that span a broad spectrum of academic disciplines. The academic curriculum culminates with an integrative experience that is often an interdisciplinary and team-based project. Through the Senior Capstone Experience, students draw upon and apply knowledge in their chosen majors and knowledge gained throughout their studies. Often these projects provide real answers to real-world problems, result in presentations at academic conferences, and bring national recognition. Upon graduation, all cadets receive a Bachelor of Science degree and are fully prepared to meet the intellectual requirements of a leader in today's Army. The Physical Program at West Point includes both physical education classes and competitive athletics. It contributes to mental and physical fitness and allows the cadet to achieve the highest levels of physical development through a program that emphasizes a lifelong pursuit of personal fitness. The physical education curriculum spans all four years, and physical education class grades are incorporated into the cadet grade point average, highlighting the importance of physical fitness in the Army. Every cadet must participate in competitive sports throughout the academic year, whether in varsity intercollegiate athletics, intercollegiate clubs, or company athletics. The program challenges cadets every day but is widely regarded as both rewarding and enjoyable. While academic courses are the building blocks of most typical universities, career development at West Point is geared toward the cadet's goal of being an officer in the United States Army, so military discipline and training are paramount to their officer development. Cadets are immersed in a military environment where they are organized in companies and serve in leadership positions within the Corps of Cadets. The heart of military training takes place during the summer. The necessary Soldier skills of rifle marksmanship, land navigation, and close combat are, but the underpinnings of each cadet's initial training the first summer by graduation every cadet has participated in small-unit leadership training attended military schools such as Airborne and Air Assault served as senior leadership to junior cadets' summer training and interned as an office in active-duty units across the globe. Each summer of training builds the previous leadership skills so that each cadet is prepared to lead Soldiers and serve our nation by graduation. No matter what primary course of study they choose, cadets graduate with the knowledge, confidence, and ability to succeed in their careers. Our mission is "To educate, train, and inspire the Corps of Cadets so that each graduate is a commissioned leader of character committed to the values of Duty, Honor, Country and prepared for a career of professional excellence and service to the Nation as an officer in the United States Army." Being accepted for admission to the United States Military Academy (USMA) at West Point is an exceptional honor reserved for our nation's most promising students. 7. As the undergraduate college of our country's naval service, the Naval Academy prepares young men and women to become professional officers of competence, character, and compassion in the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. Naval Academy students are midshipmen on active duty in the U.S. Navy. They attend the AcademyAcademy for four years, graduating with a bachelor of science degrees and commissions as ensigns in the Navy or second lieutenants in the Marine Corps. Naval Academy graduates serve at least five years in the Navy or Marine Corps. "To develop Midshipmen morally, mentally and physically and to imbue them with the highest ideals of duty, honor, and loyalty in order to graduate leaders who are dedicated to a career of naval service and have the potential for future development in mind and character to assume the highest responsibilities of command, citizenship, and government." It would be impossible to predict what four years at the Naval Academy would be like for you, but we can describe our philosophy, curriculum, and daily life. Only after you have experienced the exhausting rigors of Plebe Summer, and after you have faced the responsibility of leading other midshipmen. After you have thrown your hat into the air at graduation, will you know what the Naval Academy experience is all about. Make no mistake: the four years at Annapolis are challenging, tightly structured, and designed to push you well beyond your perceived limits. The Navy pays 100% of the tuition, room, and board, medical and dental care costs of Naval Academy midshipmen. This means ALL students who attend the Naval Academy do so on a full scholarship in return for five years of active duty service upon graduation. Additionally, you also enjoy regular active-duty benefits, including access to military commissaries and exchanges, commercial transportation and lodging discounts, and the ability to fly space-available in military aircraft around the world. Midshipmen pay is $1,087.80 monthly, from which laundry, barber, cobbler, activities fees, yearbook, and other service charges are deducted. Actual cash pay is $100 per month in your first year, which increases each year after that. The Midshipmen Stipend Budget Book will approximate what sorts of expenses to expect each month. The Naval Academy's combined academic, military and physical development programs demand much effort, requiring you to spend more time on campus than the typical civilian college student. However, midshipmen enjoy Christmas and summer vacations (leave) plus shorter periods off (liberty). Free time to be away from the AcademyAcademy is based in large part on assigned military responsibilities, performance in academic and military endeavors, and class seniority. All midshipmen generally are granted leave during these periods: Thanksgiving leaves. End-of-semester leave. Mid-term leave during the spring semester. A short liberty period at the end of the spring semester and before Commissioning Week. Three weeks of summer vacation. During semesters of the academic year, off-campus privileges fall into two categories: town liberty and weekend liberty. Weekend liberty permits you to take an overnight away from the AcademyAcademy during the weekend, returning before the Sunday evening meal. You are not eligible for weekend liberty if you are assigned a military duty/watch (rotated responsibilities) or have serious difficulty in academics, conduct, or military performance. Town liberty curfews differ according to seniority. Generally, town and weekend liberty is authorized for midshipmen as follows: Plebes have town liberty on Saturdays (noon to midnight) and yard liberty within the Naval Academy complex on Sundays. Town liberty is granted for upper-class midshipmen following class weekends. A limited number of overnight weekends are granted to upper-class midshipmen based upon class. Restrictions apply to your use of motor vehicles as a midshipman. This is necessary because parking space is minimal at the AcademyAcademy and in Annapolis. Also, you have limited time off in the first years to make use of a private vehicle. These are the current rules: Third Class midshipmen and plebes are not permitted to operate motor vehicles except when authorized leave, such as during Christmas vacation. Second Class midshipmen may have a car but must maintain and operate it beyond Academy grounds. First Class midshipmen may drive a car in Annapolis and on the Naval Academy. No midshipman is allowed to maintain or operate a motorcycle. As a future naval officer, you are expected not to abuse alcohol and to shun illegal drugs entirely. Plebes, regardless of age, are not allowed to consume alcoholic beverages. As an upper-class midshipman, you may drink if you are the minimum legal age for drinking (21 in Maryland). If you choose to drink alcohol, the Naval Academy will provide social occasions where responsible use of alcohol is permitted, such as at an official reception. The use of illegal drugs is strictly forbidden and results in expulsion from the AcademyAcademy. As a midshipman, you are subject to random drug testing through urinalysis, consistent with Navy-wide policies and procedures. Almost everything you need as a midshipman is available on the Academy grounds. There is a bookstore, uniform and tailor shop, cobbler shop, snack bar, barber/beauty shop, post office, and recreation rooms. We also provide the following services: The entire brigade eats at one time in a 55,000-square-foot dining area or wardroom, King Hall. Companies sit together, and food is served family-style during the week. Other meals are served buffet style. King Hall offers a wide variety of healthy choices to ensure midshipmen have the proper sustenance for their high metabolisms. All of the food for the 12,000 meals served daily is prepared by our food service staff in the kitchens adjacent to King Hall. Modern facilities for medical treatment are conveniently located at the Naval Academy. Besides routine medical treatment, orthopedics/sports medicine, podiatry, physical therapy, preventive medicine, and optometry services are available—specialists in gynecology, dermatology, neurology, cardiology, and urology schedule visits to the AcademyAcademy. Consultation and treatment, including inpatient care, in all primary medical and surgical specialties, are available at several military treatment facilities, such as Bethesda and Walter Reed Medical Hospitals. Most emergency conditions are handled at nearby Anne Arundel Medical Center, a fully accredited civilian facility in Annapolis. Comprehensive oral health care is provided by the Dental Clinic conveniently located in Bancroft Hall. The professional staff provides a full range of dental hygiene and general dentistry treatment. The specialties of Oral Surgery, Orthodontics (limited), Endodontics, Periodontics, and Prosthodontics are also available. If required, emergency dental treatment is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week by an on-call USNA Dental Clinic Dentist. A wide variety of training, educational and clinical services are provided to promote and enhance the adjustment, well-being, and professional development of midshipmen, including confidential individual and group counseling. The Office of Legal Counsel is available to assist midshipmen with personal and military legal questions. Regular seminars offer information on savings, loans, insurance programs, investment opportunities, and tax returns. Individual financial counseling is available from a Navy Supply Corps officer who serves as midshipmen financial advisor. When the founders of the United States Naval Academy were looking for a suitable location, it was reported that then-Secretary of the Navy George Bancroft decided to move the naval school to "the healthy and secluded" location of Annapolis in order to rescue midshipmen from "the temptations and distractions that necessarily connect with a large and populous city." The Philadelphia Naval Asylum School was its predecessor. Four of the original seven faculty members came from Philadelphia. Other small naval schools in New York City, Norfolk, Va., and Boston, Mass. also existed in the early days of the United States. The United States Navy was born during the American Revolution when the need for a naval force to match the Royal Navy became clear. However, during the period immediately following the Revolution, the Continental Navy was demobilized in 1785 by an economy-minded Congress. The dormancy of American seapower lasted a decade barely. In 1794, President George Washington persuaded Congress to authorize a new naval force to combat the growing menace of piracy on the high seas. The first vessels of the new U.S. Navy were launched in 1797, among them were the United States, the Constellation, and the Constitution. In 1825, President John Quincy Adams urged Congress to establish a Naval Academy "for the formation of scientific and accomplished officers." His proposal, however, was not acted upon until 20 years later.

  11. The University is actively seeking new contacts and coordinating efforts with local industries to advise enterprise management and technological development. The Innovation and Incubation Center and Office of Industrial Liaison are responsible for providing analytical services and training programs to strengthen the local industries' capabilities. Their primary focus is on assisting small and medium-sized companies in starting and managing their businesses, and at the same time, conducting research and development. Under special agreements made between the University and these companies, these companies can temporarily locate a campus division to enhance the accessibility of information on research, management, and training. The University hopes to cooperate substantially with overseas universities and research centers in every way for the mutual benefits to be derived from improving Academic Research. The University is currently undertaking two methods to improve academic research. Firstly, cooperate with those universities that are already in a mutual relationship with our University through such ways as professor-to-professor or faculty-to-faculty cooperation on Academic Research. Secondly, establish global learning systems based on the utilization of the abundance of teaching and research resources. The University is striving to establish an international campus to increase international academic exchange and cooperation. The strategies employed to improve research and industrial liaison include simplifying the organizational system, eliminating internal obstacles to communication, increasing professors' and students' interest and enthusiasm for learning, and creating an unlimited environment for research. It is hoped that the University will live to its name's connotations through intelligent research and cooperation with local industries and government institutions. Throughout the years of our research and development, National United University has encouraged academics in their enthusiasm to explore and incorporate any possible fruits of their R&D into other research areas. The University has expected that, through this mutually beneficial incorporation of ideas, it can integrate and unite all of our resources and significantly advance our research and development capacities. Initially, the College was mainly set up for industry-related technologies. As the resources and number of students grew, Business and Commerce courses were added into the curriculum, and the College was renamed United College of Technology and Commerce in 1992. On July 1st, 1995, the Board of Directors of the initial private College donated the school to the Minister of Education, and the College officially became a public institution with a new name - the National United College of Technology and Commerce. Later, on July 1st, 1999, the College was officially reorganized into an Institute of Technology. To lead the development of higher education, the Institute continued to serve the public with a strong foundation in science, technology, and business administration and planning for future expansion. UIBS offers flexible business and management studies at the Undergraduate/Bachelor/BBA, Graduate/Master/MBA, and Postgraduate/Doctor/DBA level. Our undergraduate, undergraduate and postgraduate programs, each with different program requirements, are based on and are fully compatible with the established European and American educational systems. The European guidelines for higher education are outlined in the Bologna agreements. Some programs require or allow students to choose a major and minor, a primary and secondary specialization during undergraduate studies. Once a minimum number of credits has been earned, a request for graduation can be submitted. Our flexible study programs are based on the American higher education model, allowing students to choose their courses based on program requirements, previous studies, current interests, and future ambitions. Our truly global community of students, faculty, and staff comprises 85+ different nationalities worldwide, with students showing great appreciation for cultural diversity and entrepreneurial initiative. Students can choose between multiple starting dates in the fall, winter, spring, and summer of each academic year. Our modular course design and program structure allow for optimal further education planning. Academically qualified and professionally experienced professors link theory and practice by bringing contemporary case studies into the classroom, preparing students to become the global leaders of the future. Students can transfer between campuses every quarter with guaranteed program compatibility. Our quarter-based academic calendar allows for a continuous study abroad experience across Europe and Asia. Small class sizes with up to 30 students allow professors to use interactive teaching methods, increasing group interaction, improving group dynamics, and building long-lasting connections among students. Through close student-lecturer contact and classes in relatively small groups, UIBS provides a professional academic atmosphere to meet students' individual needs in a truly international environment. Permanent interaction is ensured so that students obtain a firm grasp of the course materials offered. In small groups (up to approximately 24 students), students discuss issues, share ideas, test theories, and benefit from our rigorous academic standards. Faculty members are drawn from around the world, are highly qualified in their field(s) of expertise, and combine a solid academic background and ample professional experience as business leaders, industrialists, entrepreneurs, and consultants. To prevent the business theory from remaining abstract and inapplicable, most courses are based on the case method and provide students with a practical, hands-on problem-solving approach to contemporary business and management issues. Students are taught pragmatically using simulation techniques, up-to-date case studies, and the required theoretical background. They also learn to think strategically when making decisions, empathize with their peers, inspire teamwork and team building, and contribute to a project's success. Thinking creatively and independently by questioning, rather than blindly accepting subject material, is strongly encouraged. Students are regularly assessed through an ideal mix of individual and team projects, presentations, papers, mid-terms, and final exams throughout the academic year so that their progress can be closely monitored. This highly practical skills and knowledge-based approach to learning involves the continuous monitoring and adaptation of courses to the demands of the global marketplace with the assistance of an Academic Council composed of prominent personalities from the business community. While studying at UIBS, you will: Expand your horizons. Discover business. Develop and improve your leadership and communication skills. Have international networking opportunities. From around the world, our students are part of a vibrant and truly international community, showing great appreciation for cultural diversity and developing a lasting understanding of different views, beliefs, and values. Student activities are organized regularly through the student and alumni network, Entrepreneurs United. Students are encouraged to participate in events and to make the most out of their study experience. Our professional programs are intended for working professionals and are available in various formats, either for-credit or not-for-credit. Not all programs are offered at all campuses. UIS aspires to help in the process of building the character of her students by giving them strong moral values. An edifice on a strong foundation stands tall and strong when everything around it crumbles and decays. Therefore we strive to lay strong foundations in the lives of our students who will in turn enrich their communities and society at large. The school Motto is ‘Knowledge is Divine’. We believe that however much knowledge we acquire, human knowledge is always incomplete and imperfect. Only God is omniscient. We do believe that knowledge without application is of no use. 17. Japan with its culture, convenience, public health system, and public safety is often regarded as one of the top places to raise a family, however high costs of living usually stand in the way of that. Particularly, the high costs of education often preclude families from sending their children to international schools. Many foreign families, especially long-term residents, struggle to find a viable school option for their children because the only two options available to them are Japanese schools or mainstream international schools. Japanese schools, while being very affordable, are not always a viable option for foreign families who prefer to give their children an education that expands beyond the boundaries of Japan. Historically, most international schools available in Japan have largely catered to the ex-pat community supported by companies that offered generous school allowances. However, the notion of a "privileged ex-pat life" as we know it has changed significantly in the past five years. An increasing number of foreign families now pay for their children’s education without the assistance of their employer. UST strongly believes that access to a good education should be a right, not a privilege. Families in Japan should have viable options of schools and educational systems available to choose from, without having it become a financial burden. This choice becomes especially important for international families that are raising their children in Japan, away from their countries, their extended families, and support systems. At UST, we truly understand the challenges of raising a family under these conditions. We have gone through the very same experiences first hand and that is how the idea of uniting families and educators to build a school that serves this very community was born. At UST, we feel the purpose of education is not only to ingrain basic skills required for participation in modern society but also an avenue to allow a child to develop in a multitude of facets. Education can encourage students to become positively contributing members within an ever-expanding global environment. A need for increasing ingenuity and creative problem-solving skills has never been more prevalent in the world market more than now. We believe it is important to start the development of these skills as early as possible to provide the greatest chance of success in later life. As part of UST’s Experiential Learning approach, we like to take learning out of the classroom and expose our students to a progression of age-appropriate experiences to help them take ownership of their learning, develop confidence in their physical abilities and build confidence in themselves in their relationships with others. Outdoor education offers opportunities for children to enjoy the first-hand experience outdoors, whether in urban green spaces in Tokyo or Japan's countryside. Some examples UST outdoor education program include building teamwork and interacting with the nature of an overnight ski trip or camping trip learning science through gardening or going insect and bird watching researching a social studies project on a field trip doing art sketches in the park or having a math class while using fallen leaves or acorns as manipulatives learning about social responsibility and environmental preservation by going on neighborhood clean-ups learning about compassion and making a difference by preparing rice balls for homeless people … the possibilities of active learning outside of the classroom are endless. Creativity is often utilized in the arts, where the notion of a “right” answer can be disputed with justification. The arts tend to promote the higher cognitive domains: analysis, synthesis, and evaluation. The visual, performing, and writing arts help students to develop their ideas through active thinking and problem-solving. Each step in these areas requires a student to analyze not only what he or she is doing currently, but the previous steps taken as well as future steps. UST applies these steps in the thinking process so that they can be applied to subjects outside of the arts. At UST children are encouraged to cooperate, collaborate and brainstorm, work in groups to come up with the best solution, as well as to support each other. One of the most important features of collaboration is that it not only creates more holistic results than individual work, but it also creates knowledge for a greater number of people. Collaboration in an international school setting becomes even more powerful as it brings culturally diverse perspectives into learning. Finally, we feel that a school should provide a safe place for children to take chances. That means a child should not be afraid of failure but should look for the opportunities in it. Oftentimes, students are afraid to take chances for fear of being wrong and this inhibits their learning as well as their self-development. Students need to learn when they do not accomplish a task how to reevaluate concepts that they might have had and build on them. When learning occurs in any form, there is no real failure at UST. UST provides a safe environment for social and academic growth on an individual level!
  18. Established in 1982, UWC Adriatic brings together over 180 students from more than 80 countries for the final two years of their high school education. Life at our residential school can be demanding and truly transformational. Living in rooms of 2, 3, or 4 students in one of our 7 residences scattered throughout the village, co-curricular life is at the heart of the UWC Adriatic experience, with a particular emphasis on service to others. Eighty percent of our students are non-native English speakers yet all study towards the full International Baccalaureate diploma in English. All students also study Italian. With all our teachers living in the village as well and acting as personal and residence tutors, we are a very tight-knit community. UWC aims to use education as a force to unite people. United World Colleges is a unique organization. It is the only global educational NGO that brings students together from all over the world, selected from within their own countries on merit and regardless of their ability to pay. These students come together at one of 17 United World Colleges that aims to foster international understanding, peace, and sustainability. UWC Adriatic brings highly motivated young students from all parts of the world so they can live and learn together. Our objective is to help students become active, involved, and educated citizens whose attitudes towards understanding and community service will be a powerful catalyst for change. Through the students, as representatives of their countries, we hope to influence their wider communities to become more understanding, compassionate, and peaceful. In short, we aim to create a better world through education. UWC Adriatic welcomes young people at the threshold of adult independence and guides them on the way to being compassionate and conscientious individuals with the energy and understanding to work for positive change. Experiences gained within a diverse multicultural community in an Italian region at the crossroads of cultural, political, historical, and geographical transitions are used to stimulate personal reflection and growth. The UWC educational model provides a common framework within which all UWC schools and colleges operate. It does not set down a curriculum but focuses on what is unique about UWC’s approach to education. Diversity is at the center of the experience of every student in every college: at UWC diversity extends to differences in socioeconomic background, culture, race, and religion as well as nationality. That means our students benefit from learning in a diverse environment that helps to broaden the mind and sense of self, and where students gain a globally recognized pre-university qualification that will prepare them to take leading roles in an increasingly complex world.
  19. Dedicated to cross-cultural education with a global perspective, the United International Business Schools organization (UIBS) is an independent and accredited private higher education institution with campuses in Europe and Asia. Refer to the program schedule for further details. All for-credit programs require participants to meet the admission requirements of the appropriate level. Our students and alumni have been offered jobs and internships by the following well-known and reputable companies and organizations, among many others. The non-exhaustive overview below is based on information obtained from our Academic Coordinators, our Careers Department, and via the alumni network across various social media and does not constitute an official endorsement, recommendation, recognition, approval, or acceptance of any sort by these companies and organizations. All trademarks are the property of their respective owners. Jobs and internships received from employers are announced to the students through the online portal by the school's Careers Department. 21. NJUCA is dedicated to educating our grades 6-12 students in fundamental biblical principles accompanying a solid academic foundation. We offer a variety of programs and activities to equip young men and women as future leaders. United Christian Academy opened its doors in September 2003 with 27 students and four full-time staff members. During that first year, the students and the staff prayed for the future of the school and a new building. God abruptly answered their prayers when the US Postal Service "is" delivered a piece of mail. Since that miraculous start, New Jersey United Christian Academy has been offering a strong academic program, establishing Biblical Christian values, and training students to become leaders. In our second decade, NJUCA continues to actively inspire students to live vivid Christian lives while bringing together local and international communities of Believers with a unique focus on teen Christian leadership. Please join us in praying that the Lord continues to use this ministry, a Christian school with an emphasis on teen leadership development, faithfully practicing Christian values and emphasizing academic excellence to reach a worldwide audience for His glory. NJUCA has adopted the following as defining its doctrinal basis: We believe that there is one sovereign God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (1 Timothy 1:17) We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God for faith and practice. (2 Timothy 3:16) We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father and His return in power and glory. (Hebrews 1:1-3) We believe and profess that salvation is a gift of God's grace received through personal faith in Jesus Christ. (Ephesians 2:8) We believe in the Holy Spirit's present indwelling ministry, whose intercessory and sanctifying work continually renews the Christian and enables him to live a godly life in conformity with the Scripture. (John 14:15-17) We believe in believers' spiritual unity in our Lord Jesus Christ, as evidenced in the local body of Christ that is the church. (Hebrews 10: 22-25) We envision a school that works with the home and the church to raise teens who Recognize and utilize their God-given gifts Our strong Christian leaders impacting their school, communities, and culture Pursue the career to which God has called them, standing out among society as a testimony to God's perfect plan Defend the faith and spread the astonishing news of Jesus Christ to their generation To provide a reliable academic program rooted in Biblical truth, emphasizing developing Christian leadership among students. 22. 23. View full university

For nursing laboratory and clinical courses, one credit is awarded for 48 hours of supervised laboratory or clinical instruction. 25.
