  5. The Antwerp Maritime Academy is participating in the Erasmus + program. The Erasmus + program aims to support actions in the fields of Education, Training, Youth, and Sport for the period 2014-2020. The program gives students and staff opportunities to spend a period abroad to increase their skills and employability. The Academy participates in international projects where its know-how can be used to develop maritime education and training. In this respect, contacts have been made with the port authorities in Dubai and education authorities in Suriname. However, the most visible involvement so far was in Cambodia. The Academy was a Leading Partner in two projects to establish maritime education and training by setting up a Maritime Navigation Department as a part of the future Cambodia Maritime Academy. In 2003 the first project was successfully concluded. It examined the use of distance learning and, more particularly, e-learning. The project was sponsored by the European Commission, under its Asia IT&C program. More information on this project can be found here: E-tools for Off-Shore Training of Maritime Personnel. The Antwerp Maritime Academy is the only college in Belgium to provide training in Nautical Sciences and Marine Engineering. In the Nautical Sciences department, deck officers are trained. Deck officers are responsible for the navigation of the ship, the voyage itinerary, maritime communication, cargo handling, etc. This training prepares the student for a career at sea, which can ultimately lead to Captain's level (Master). In the Marine Engineering department, engineering officers are trained. The marine engineer is responsible for the preventive maintenance and repair of all thermal, electric, pneumatic, and hydraulic installations aboard the ship and safety equipment. This training prepares the student for a career at sea, which can ultimately lead to the Chief Engineer level. The Antwerp Maritime Academy combines tradition with modern technology. In keeping with tradition, the students wear a uniform. At the beginning of each academic year, a ceremony is organized during which the class of first-year students is named after a distinguished member of the maritime community. The Academy is housed in a magnificent building, situated north of the Royers Lock within the Port of Antwerp. The building, which dates from the period between the First and Second World Wars, is listed. The architects succeeded in harmoniously combining functionality and aesthetics. Over the years, necessary renovations have been carried out without altering the unique character of the building. Inside, however, the Academy is fully equipped with state-of-the-art didactic equipment. Training highly qualified personnel for the maritime industry requires a specific teaching format, specialized instructional methods, and specially adapted equipment. The Antwerp Maritime Academy is proud of its well-equipped laboratories and workshops and its modern simulators for ship navigation (and radar), cargo handling, propulsion, and telecommunications. The library contains many recent publications as well as videos, DVDs, and CDs. Students have access to computers and the Internet. Simulators allow students to acquire nautical and technical skills on campus, but training at sea still forms an essential and compulsory part of nautical education. The joint training session for all first-year students acts as an initiation into life at sea. Since the academic year 2007-2008, the joint training session has been carried out aboard the Dar Mlodziezy, the Polish three-mast tall sailing ship. The students learn various aspects of seamanship, and particular attention is paid to safety training. Students are required to apply the watchkeeping schedules used aboard merchant marine vessels. Performing as a group and learning to respect each other is of the utmost importance, especially aboard a sailing ship. To guarantee the safety of ship and crew, high demands are made on discipline from both crewmembers and students. Respect for the forces of nature and operating in vessel, crew, and cargo form essential parts of the training. The training schedule is based on the guidelines set out by the IMO (International Maritime Organisation) in the Cadet Training Record Book. In the years following, students can take part in onboard training (on a non-compulsory basis) on commercial vessels (merchant marine vessels, dredging ships, etc.). These training sessions are arranged and carried out on an individual basis during the holiday periods. View full university
  6. Constanta Maritime University is a higher education and research institution, an academic community formed by teaching staff, auxiliary teaching staff, students, technical and administrative staff. Constanta Maritime University bases its activity on the university autonomy, seen as a specific means of self-leadership, according to the Romanian Constitution's legal framework and by the Education Law no. 84/1995, reissued in 1999, by other laws as well as by its regulations. CMU shares the provisions of The Lima Declaration on Academic Freedom and Autonomy of Institution of Higher Education (1988), The Magna Charta of European Universities (Bologna, 1988), and adheres to the Bologna Declaration (1999). The University's executive leadership is ensured by the Rector, assisted by three vice-rectors, a general administration manager, and the secretariat general. The supreme decision forum is the University Senate, formed by 28 members (teaching staff and representatives of the students), which meets periodic sessions and permanent commissions. The Administrative Council of the University ensures the operative administration of the institution. The decisions of the Administrative Council are enforceable for the departments, faculties, research institutes, and services. The University has been audited by the European Maritime Safety Agency – EMSA. The auditing aimed at checking the quality of the University's activities on various levels of interest (managerial level, assessment means, courses, feedback from the maritime industry, and so on). At the same time, it aimed at checking the compliance of these activities with the STC W'95 international standards (Standards for Training Certification and Watchkeeping for Seagoing Personnel Code) elaborated by IMO (International Maritime Organization). The continuous transformation of the Romanian society and the European Community requires new abilities to adapt to the labor market's needs. It is, therefore, necessary to combine the academic knowledge with clearly stated and identified professional competencies. In this context, the mission of Constanta Maritime University is to: Train future professionals for transport-related activities and develop research activities in related scientific domains by acknowledging competition as the main progress factor and quality management as the primary means for developing the educational and research process. 2. Promote education and research by the requirements of a knowledge-based society through education, continuous learning, and integration in the circuit of universal values. 3. Bring a contribution to the local, regional, and national development through academics' involvement at a social, economic, and cultural level. Our means to achieve the above are: – Strategic and efficient management of human and material resources – Permanent development, both vertically and horizontally – Commitment to the quality principle in each activity. Internationalization is an essential vector in enhancing the quality of higher education. By its very nature, Constanta Maritime University has a robust international feature. The maritime field is a strictly regulated one. Along with the regulations imposed by the Ministry of National Education through the Romanian Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ARACIS), the University must adopt and implement the international standards set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the Romanian Naval Authority. These create the global maritime industry's regulatory framework in terms of navigation safety and protection of the marine environment. Given the above, the teaching curricula comply with the academic norms, the provisions of STCW 78/95 Code, the Manila Convention's amendments, and the IMO Model Course 7.03 and 7.04. CMU is an active member of two major international networks, with high potential for students and teachers mobility and joint research programs: The International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU) and the Black Sea Association of Maritime Institutions (BSAMI). The University is committed to maintain and strengthen cooperation with these network partners. CMU is an active member of the International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU), which comprises 57 worldwide institutions. IAMU is the most authorized voice to promote a quality higher education and the standardization of the teaching curricula and the graduates' certification procedure at the international level. During 2012-2013 Constanta Maritime University has ensured this prestigious association's presidency through its Vice-Rector for International Relations and Institutional Development, Prof. Cornel Panait, Ph.D. In October 2013, CMU hosted the 14th Annual General Assembly of IAMU, whose theme was "New Technological Alternatives for Enhancing Economic Efficiency." The event gathered more than 100 participants from over 40 institutions. CMU has established the Black Sea Association of Maritime Institutions (BSAMI) along with five other higher education institutions from the Black Sea basin: Istanbul Technical University Maritime Faculty, Nikola Y. Vaptsarov Naval Academy, Admiral Ushakov Maritime State University, Batumi State Maritime Academy, and Odesa National Maritime Academy. BSAMI strives to be an innovating and proactive actor in the Black Sea region and ensure the proper training and competencies necessary for human resources to face the international labor market's competitiveness. One of CMU's constant endeavors is to ensure onboard training to as many students as possible. To this purpose, Constanta Maritime University has joined the Global On-Board Training Center (BTC), which aims to identify and use all cooperation opportunities to ensure seagoing traineeship to its cadets. For the last 60 years, the JBLFMU, formerly the Iloilo Maritime Academy, has been one of Filipino seafarers' significant significantders, proudly taking an indubitable share in the Philippines' claim as the world's manning capital for seafarers. Through its unrelenting quest for excellence, the university has been granted full autonomy and the university status by the Commission on Higher Education. Accordingly, the institution became a dynamo in establishing the much-needed impetus and inspiration to forge through more innovative programs to meet the global market's requirements. Keeping pace with the ship manning requirements is what makes JBLFMU dynamic, proactive, and innovative. It is our pleasure to invite you to browse through our history and know more about our services and our incessant quest for quality education delivery. Feel free to communicate with us through our website and learn more about JBLFMU The seafaring profession is firmly founded on the fact that most of the world's trade is through the vast oceans of the world. Men and ships work together to improve the world economy. However, men cannot become seamen without being trained and educated by a credible maritime training institution. With this, John B Lacson Foundation Maritime University is confident of telling everyone that the school is honing excellent ship officers who can be trusted both in the practical and theoretical aspects of the maritime industry. We are not limiting ourselves, however, to this goal. However, we are also trying our best to produce a responsible and qualified workforce for other fields related to the maritime profession. JBLFMU System shall equip the students with the conceptual and technical knowledge, interpersonal skills, and competence required for their profession's practice by providing them with a discipline-oriented and competency-based curricula to develop flexibility and the right attitude as professionals committed to the service to the service of God and Country.JBLFMU shall also embark on alternative learning programs such as ETEEAP, Distance Education/ Open Learning, and Skills Training thus, giving cognizance to the expertise of professionals who have proven they are worth in the exercise of their respective profession.JBLFMU shall also embark on alternative learning programs such as ETEEAP, Distance Education/ Open Learning, and Skills Training thus, giving cognizance to the expertise of professionals who have proven they are worth in the exercise of their respective profession. The John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University (JBLFMU), with its commitment to developing a culture of excellence in maritime education and training, responds to the need for the time by acknowledging the practical and operational advancement of Online Distance Learning (ODL) mode of delivery. The features of online distance learning, which overcomes distance, time, and space, make education and training available to clients at all times, allowing them to learn new skills, gain further instruction to enhance skills and knowledge, and become marketable. It is built on sound education practice principles, which encourages collaboration between students and faculty, among students themselves, and even the exchange of professional skills among faculty. The system emphasizes the development of skills and knowledge building rather than just merely skills and knowledge acquisition. As a learning system, the JBLFMU ODL looks intently at aspects of students' needs, design of self-study materials, student support, cost-effectiveness, and quality of materials and delivery system. Consequently, ODL enhances traditional residential or face-to-face teaching. The school's expansion and the school's growth made it difficult for one person to oversee and manage the different campuses. On September 18, 1993, during one of the regular monthly meetings, Dr. Mary Lou Arcelo recommended to the Board of Trustees the creation and establishment of the different units. She would like to retire from operations, and she tendered her irrevocable resignation as president. The board of trustees accepted her resignation with the assurance that she will remain a consultant. This gave birth to the creation of the John B. Lacson Foundation System. Under its umbrella is the John B Lacson Colleges Foundation (JBLCF) Arevalo, which became the home of the deck cadets JBLFC Molo offered the marine engineering program, customs administration, tourism, computer engineering, and cruise ship management JBLCF Bacolod offered programs in nautical studies, marine engineering, customs administration, and hotel and restaurant management and the Puerto del Mar which became the seat for aquatic sports and SOLAS courses. The autonomy given to the different campuses under separate boards brought new personalities in the Board of Trustees, many of whom were from the industry. The first administrators were Engr. Ralph L. Pador for JBLCF Arevalo, 3/M Estanislao Diaresco Jr for JBLCF Bacolod, and Dr. Wilfredo P. Ramos for JBLCF Molo. One shared vision, mission, and objectives unify the units. All units are mandated to attain the same degree of compliance with the school's criterion of excellence. View full university

  15. 2 December 1809 is considered the date of the University foundation. The very day when the Department of Waterway Communications and State Agency of Roads were merged into the Agency of Hinterland and Waterway Transportation following the Manifesto of Alexander I. As a result of this merge, the Corps of Engineers for Hinterland and Waterway Transportation was founded. The University changed its name several times throughout its long 200 years history; several merges with various higher education institutions also took place. The latest merge was in 2012 with the Admiral Makarov State Maritime Academy. The Academy, which had taken its roots in the Seafaring classes of the River Yacht Club of Saint-Petersburg that, in its turn, was founded in 1876. The honor of being named after the famed Russian admiral S.O. Makarov was granted on 24 March 1949. Nowadays, Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping is considered the oldest and the largest center of the shipping industry personnel education and training in the Russian Federation, providing education and training for maritime and inland water operators of the shipping industry. Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping incorporates 4 Institutes, 76 Research Chairs, College of Admiral Makarov SUMIS, and ten branches, allocated in various regions. The Head educational institution of Admiral Makarov SUMIS is located in Saint-Petersburg and comprises seven campuses. Annually at the University simultaneously study over 13,000 students, of which 9 000 are the Head University students. Also, 20 000 students are being trained through the Professional Development Programs. It is necessary to note the achievements of the University in a wide range of scientific areas, including the development of the ship intelligent control systems, researches in the field of high voltage marine equipment, exploration of the Northern Sea Route, modeling of ports and approaches to them, and many other ones. The University implements a broad range of international activities. Presently the University has more than 20 international cooperation agreements in action. The academic and professorial staff of the University take their active part in the activity of international organizations: the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the Institute of Marine Engineers (IMAREST), the International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU), Sail Training International (STI) and others. The Graduation Degree of Admiral Makarov SUMIS is valid and accepted all over the world. Our graduates are demanded and welcomed for employment by the leading shipping companies worldwide. Such a demand for the graduates of Admiral Makarov SUMIS is, to some extent, because in addition to the state educational standard of the Russian Federation, the University meets the requirements of international maritime conventions (for instance, STCW, etc.). In addition to all the essential Russian accreditations, Admiral Makarov SUMIS is accredited by many foreign and international organizations. Thus, Russian and foreign shipping companies are aware that the education, the Graduation Degree, and the certificates by Admiral Makarov SUMIS are in full compliance with the international standards. Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping was launched as the result of the merging of two famous universities – Saint-Petersburg State University of Water Communications (the oldest transport university in Russia, routing its history from 1809 when the Institute of Engineers for Water and Land Communications was established in Saint-Petersburg) and Admiral Makarov State Maritime Academy. Currently, the University is a vertically integrated center of industry research and education. Students' and cadets' training is provided for bachelor and master education level and education and training for operational, technical, and informational professions. There are also departments for economic and humanity education within the existing twelve aggregated groups of professions. Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping has a top rating position among technical universities of Russia and foreign technical universities. 23. 2 December 1809 is considered the date of the University foundation. 24.
