  1. The Technical University of Košice is a public college covering a wide range of educational needs not just for the East Slovak region but also in many fields; it is the only science, research, and education center in Slovakia but also in the Central European area. The Technical University of Košice was founded in 1952, but its roots must be sought deeper in the past. As early as 1657, the Universitas Cassoviensis was established in Košice. However, technical education in Slovakia was only elevated to a higher - education levels in 1762, when the Austro-Hungarian monarch Maria Theresa established the Mining Academy in Banská Štiavnica. This provided education and promoted research activity in scientific disciplines ranging from ore mining to production and processing of metal materials. The actual birth of the Košice Technical College came on 8th July 1952, when the Czechoslovak Government-issued Directive No.30/1952 Statutes are setting up three faculties, namely the Faculties of Heavy Engineering, Mining and Metallurgy. These were joined in 1969 by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and in 1978 by the Faculty of Civil Engineering. The critical event of the College's renaming into the Technical University of Košice occurred on 13th February 1991. In 1992 the Faculty of Professional Studies was set up in Prešov, which was transformed in 1996 into today's Faculty of Manufacturing Technologies. The Technical University of Košice will be: A leading university of technology on a national basis and A respected university of technology on the international scale, Having a substantial degree of autonomy, Sufficiently diversified financial resources, Available for a wide range of applicants, Developing scientific knowledge based on its original findings, Providing excellent education on all three levels of tertiary education, as well as Lifelong education, Meeting the expected needs of industries, region, and society by its research, Substantially involved in providing services to the general public. TUKE will provide its environment with a scientific and technological knowledge basis, innovation, and workforce to form a healthy and sustainable future and high quality of life. This will be achieved at TUKE by innovative research and excellent education in all scientific branches of respective University Faculties. The number of students currently attending nine TUKE faculties is 10 643. There are 8 728 full-time students (5 293 Bachelor students, 3 435 Master students, and 672 Postgraduate students). More than 700 professors, associate and assistant professors work here, and the same research and administrative staff. TUKE caters to a wide range of educational needs not only in the East-Slovak region but throughout Slovakia and Central Europe, as in many specializations, it is the only center of education and research in this area. 2. Technical University of Moldova (TUM) is the only higher technical educational institution accredited by the State in the Moldova Republic. Since its establishment in 1964 until now, it has trained about 78 387 engineers and economists. At TUM, the studies are organized within nine faculties: "Energetics and Electrical Engineering" "Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, and Transport" "Computers, Informatics and Microelectronics" "Engineering and Management in Electronics and Telecommunications" "Technology and Management in Food Industry" "Light industry" "Cadastre, Geodesy and Construction" "Urbanism and Architecture" "Economic Engineering and Business." Within the 'Faculty of Engineering and Management in Machine Building, «there activates the Technical College. The University offers courses in 60 specialties and specializations for the I cycle, 43 specialties for masters, and 45 specialties for a doctorate, covering the national economy's needs in preparing engineers. At TUM, studies are organized under the European System of Transferable Academic Credits (ESTC). The ESTC facilitates the mobility of students and young professionals in the European area with recognition of diplomas. To cope with the market economy's demands, it has been modified the concept of training engineers by completing the list of subjects relating to engineering specialty itself with a series of economic-managerial disciplines. For this purpose, several international languages are studied (English, French, or German). The disciplines of economic and managerial nature will help the engineer in the future to initiate a proper business. Of those over 60 thousand businessmen working in Chisinau, about 75 percent are graduates from TUM. At TUM, activate branches of particular groups to teach all the subjects in one of the modern languages. At the "Faculty of Computers, Informatics, and Microelectronics," they have the Francophone Branch "Informatics" and the Anglophone Branch "Computer Sciences and Electronics." At the "Faculty of Engineering and Management in the Food Industry,» it activates the Francophone Branch "Food Technologies." Students from these branches do linguistic and specialized internships in the USA, France, Canada, Germany, etc. Many of them write their license theses and the best students follow the master or doctorate courses in those countries. The TUM students do their internships at companies of the country (private and State), with which the University has contracts based on mutual interest. Every year, hundreds of students from TUM do their internships in other countries. TUM maintains Scientific and Didactic links: Romania, Russia, Ukraine, France, Italy, Germany, USA, Canada, England, Czech Republic, Turkey, Belgium, Slovakia, etc. To scientific researchers at TUM is given special attention, they being an essential component of education. Students actively participate in the research process, which leads to raising their level of professional training. As a rule, the University wins first place in the exhibitions "Infoinvent" held annually in Moldova and international exhibitions. In the last years, TUM has won over 30 gold medals, silver and bronze medals, and many honorable mentions. TUM cooperates with more than 75 universities and scientific centers from different countries. Here are held international scientific conferences and symposiums. TUM is a member of the Black Sea Region Universities Network, including 11 countries of the Regional Economic Cooperation. Thus, TUM fits into a university area, which will become part of Europe's unique university area. University life includes other aspects as well – sports, amateur artistic activities, etc. Sport plays a significant role in the University. Factors contributing to sports development are improving from year to year: built modern stadiums and gyms specialists in the field train students. TUM participates in all the 18 sports of the republican students where they win first places. At TUM, there are artistic groups of music and folk dance. University Fanfare is in the second place, being preceded by the Presidential Fanfare of Moldova. We can conclude that, in the 4-5 years of studies at TUM, the studious youth is formed civic and professionally at the highest requirements. TUM graduates successfully work in various branches of the national economy, contributing significantly to the formation of the Republic of Moldova's new intellectuality and completing our young State's leading structures. The Technical University of Moldova is recognized on the national scientific research stage, with remarkable results and internationally. The six research centers TUM successfully put the University's research strategy into practice in numerous research grants and programs won through competition. The research results are embodied in scientific papers, monographs, and patents, all bringing prestige to the University. Students are involved in the research and development of year and license projects by presenting results at national and international conferences. The Technical University of Moldova proposes raising the value of the national engineering education through the quality of education as a determinant of the competitiveness of local human potential development of scientific and technical research as an indispensable component in professional engineering training encouraging mobility of students and teachers promoting access and integration of graduates in the local labor market, etc. Higher Education of the Republic of Moldova is in an era of great transformation required by implementing the principles of the Bologna Process, which resulted in restructuring the entire national university education. The great challenge of the new concept that launches to the academic education is competitiveness at national, European, and global levels. To meet the imperatives of the time, the Technical University of Moldova has structured the educational process in two cycles, giving young people a wide variety of courses in the technical field in the I cycle – license and cycle II – Master. Cycle III – Ph.D. – is in pre-deployment condition. View full university

  13. Soon after the end of the German occupation of Greece, the issue of establishing a University on Crete was brought up and reached its peak during the 1960s. However, although public demand for establishing a university on Crete was unanimous, there was also an intense rivalry between the two major cities on the island. One would become the seat of that University. Finally, the solution to the problem was given in 1977 by the then Prime Minister Konstantinos Karamanlis. They made a balanced decision approving both the establishment of a University with faculties in Heraklion and Rethymnon and establishing a Technical University in Chania. The Technical University of Crete was established by Law 545/77 on the "Establishment of a Technological Institution under the title Technical University of Crete and other provisions." On July 17th, 1977, the first Executive Committee of the Institution convened under the presidency of Professor Perikles Theoharis and in the presence of the then Minister of National Education G. Rallis, consisting of the Mayor of the City of Chania and the President of the Western Crete Section of the Technical Chamber of Greece, representing the local element which had shown great interest in the establishment of the University. The main task of this first Executive Committee in 1977 was to find land for the erection of permanent university facilities by commencing the expropriation procedure of 350 hectares of land. It is worth mentioning, at this point, the immense support of the local community on this matter. Simultaneously, the Executive Committee also dealt with the organization and recruitment of the university services but mostly with the legal framework for its operation. As a result of the Executive Committee's dedicated work, a significant number of decrees were issued, the most important of which is the Presidential Decree 1140/80 on the "Establishment of Higher Education Schools, Departments, and Research Institutes as well as posts of Professors at the Technical University of Crete," which provided for the establishment of three Schools: a) Technical Sciences, b) Applied Sciences and c) Architecture and Spatial Planning. Each School would comprise four Departments. Apart from its work on the legal framework of the Institution, the first Executive Committee was responsible for the acquisition of three historic buildings (Old Prisons, Old City Hall, or Arsenal and the Venetian Loggia), the drawing up of studies for their restoration as well as the drawing up of studies for the Initial University Facilities. The Committee proceeded in purchasing computers, books, and 479 magazine titles for the Central University Library and setting up electoral bodies for judging the candidatures for the calls for tender regarding Educational & Research Personnel positions. After 1981, a new Executive Committee was set up under the presidency of Professor Thales Argyropoulos (1982-1988) from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and later, under the presidency of Professor Theodore Lianos (1988-1989), who was a faculty member of the Higher School of Economic and Commercial Studies (ASOEE). The new Executive Committee completed or revised the former administration's decisions concerning fundamental issues such as housing and educational programming. As far as the housing problem was concerned, it gave priority to the development of the University inside the city by renovating the Old Venetian Prisons and Barracks, acquiring and renovating the former French School, acquiring the Military Division complex of buildings by the Ministry of National Defence, securing the use of the Hatzidakis camp in Halepa and putting forward studies for the erection of buildings on it. Simultaneously, the erection of university facilities in Akrotiri was put forward while the expropriated land for this purpose had been cut down by 60 hectares compared to the initial surface. The foundation ceremony of the university facilities in Akrotiri took place in December 1988. As far as the educational programming was concerned, significant changes took place, based, of course, on the new legal framework that had started to form in the meanwhile but had reversed the programming of the Executive Committee of 1977. The capstone of the philosophy of the Executive Committee of 1981, concerning the educational programming, was the issuing of the Presidential Decree52/83 on "the structure of the Technical University of Crete into Departments and Sectors, the procedure of electing permanent faculty members and prerequisites on the independent function of the Technical University of Crete with elected governing bodies." Instead of three Schools and 12 Departments that were provided for in the P.D. 1140/80, the new P.D. 52/83 provided for the establishment of 6 Academic Departments: Production Engineering and Management, Mineral Resources Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Sciences Department. In 1984, the first faculty members were appointed. During the academic year 1984-85, the Production Engineering and Management Department started running its educational program and admitted its first 120 students together with the Sciences Department. The Mineral Resources Engineering Department followed in 1987-88 and the Electronics and Computer Engineering Department in 1990-91. Later on, and after the University had become independent, the Chemical Engineering Department became an Environmental Engineering Department and admitted its first students in 1997. Finally, in 2004 the Architectural Engineering Department was established and welcomed its first students. In September 1989, the new Executive Committee, presided by the Professor of the National Technical University of Athens Mr. Ioannis Tegopoulos together with the Professors of the Technical University of Crete Mr. Antonis Foskolos and Mr. Joachim Gryspolakis as vice-presidents, decided to change the spatial planning orientation of the expansion of the University. They abandoned the idea of further expanding the University within the city of Chania and rapidly promoted the development of the facilities of the University in Akrotiri. The University assigned facilities such as the Hatzidakis camp and the Venetian Loggia to Chania's Municipality for other uses. The buildings that were kept to be used by the University itself include the Venetian Complex of the Old Prisons and Barracks, which now house the Rectorate offices and the offices of administrative and financial services. In contrast, the former French School facilities in Halepa now accommodate the Department of Architectural Engineering. In this way, the University maintains its necessary cohesion with Chania and its social fabric. Most importantly, this policy enabled the housing of the rest of the academic departments of the University within the campus in Akrotiri, which offered the possibility for the erection of suitable lecture halls, laboratories, and infrastructure that modern requirements dictate for a Technical University. In 1993, all the necessary legal requirements were met, and thus, all the Departments of the University became independent and had been operating since then with elected governing bodies. As soon as these requirements were met, the procedure for the election of a Rectorate was initiated, thus establishing the independent operation of the Technical University of Crete. Professor Yannis Phillis became the first Rector of the Technical University of Crete, assisted in his functions by the Vice-Rectors Professors Ioannis Siskos and Theodore Markopoulos. They took on their office on 8.12.1993. Since then, the Technical University of Crete has been making continuous and significant progress. The faculty staff's high quality, the scientific partners, and the administrative and technical personnel guarantee future growth. The campus is undoubtedly one of Greece's best, with modern lecture halls and research facilities, library, student hall of residences, restaurant, and recreational areas. View full university
  14. The National Technical University of Athens is structured according to the continental European system for training engineers, emphasizing solid background. After the acquisition of 300 credit units to a Diploma, the duration of courses leading, of Master's level, is five years. The valuable work of NTUA and its international reputation is due to its well-organized educational and research system, the quality of its staff and students, and the adequacy of its technical infrastructure. NTUA graduates were pivotal to Greece's pre-war development and post-war reconstruction. The graduate engineers who staffed public and private technical services and companies remained by general consent, equal to their European counterparts. Many have been elected to distinguished teaching and research positions in well-known universities all over the world. Under Article 16 of the Greek Constitution and consequent laws, and following its tradition and structure, the primary institutional component of the NTUA's mission, effected through the integrated complex of studies and research, provides advanced higher education of outstanding quality in science and technology. The apparent need for any significant institute of higher education to operate and offer education and research opportunities within a well organized and completely unambiguous internal system of principles, aims, procedures, rights, and obligations, led, between the years 1997 and 2000, to the in-depth internal and external evaluation of the NTUA's structure and activities and consequently to the drawing up, discussion with all NTUA's members and approval by the Senate and the Ministry of Education, (Government Gazette 1098/B/05.09.2000), of the NTUA Statute. This code of operation and development, considered as one of the best European University Statutes, defines that the primary strategy of NTUA in the new millennium is not only to maintain its position as an outstanding and internationally recognized public university of science and technology but also to strengthen that position as regarding all its basic operations. All other strategies, aims and actions must be compatible with this important strategic choice. Founded in 1837, almost along with the modern Greek state, NTUA is the oldest Technical University in Greece. The school quickly introduced reforms to make it better able to respond to the domestic needs of reconstruction and industrial development. Studies reached the three years, enriched with new disciplines, and the administration was taken over by the Committee for the Encouragement of National Industry. It was named "Metsovion" to honor the donors and benefactors Nikolaos Stournaris, Eleni Tositsa, Michail Tositsas, and Georgios Averof from Metsovo, a small town in the region of Epirus. After the introduction of a four-year degree course for civil and mechanical engineering, in 1887, the NTUA was able to announce that it "educates high-level engineers for the public service, industry, and construction" as competent as "graduates from the well–known engineering schools of Western Europe". The last major reform of the organization and administration of NTUA took place in 1917. The "Ethnicon M emotion Politechnion" acquired five high-level engineering schools: Civil, Mechanical & Electrical, Architecture, Chemical, and Surveying. Many subsequent changes since 1917 have led to its current form: a prestigious University of Science and Technology, with eight Engineering Schools and a ninth School of Applied Mathematical and Physical Sciences. The recent struggles against the military dictatorship of 1967-74 escalated with the student gathering at the NTUA Patission Campus on February the 14th, 1973, followed by an unprecedented brutal attack by the police inside the campus and the arrest of several students. These few days saw the growth of an impressive popular uprising centered at NTUA. The people of Greece and the country's youth all rallied in support of the students, united around the ideals: Freedom, Democracy, Independence, Education, and Social Progress. The toll of the Polytechnic uprising was tragic. Several demonstrators were killed, many more were arrested by the military police and were tortured for months in military prisons. The Junta fell a few months later, and Polytechnic is being commemorated every year on November the 17th by the students, high school pupils, the NTUA Senate, the democratic authorities, political parties, the Greek Parliament, and the people of Greece. The Polytechnic Uprising is an outstanding event in recent Greek history. NTUA honored the Uprising victims with a monument within its courtyard, opposite the gate which the tanks of the dictatorship demolished that night. The monument was placed alongside the column commemorating the National Resistance. The two memorials emphasize the continued struggle of the Greek people and the country's youth over the years. 15. On the seventeenth of January 2005, a Royal Decree was issued to establish Tafila Technical University as a public university that currently contributes to higher education in Jordan. Since then, the university has sought to realize the objectives for which it was established. On top of these objectives are the reinforcement of spiritual and moral values, national pride, Arab Islamic identity, and the development of students' talents, emphasizing the qualities of leadership and citizenship. The ways to realize these objectives include offering higher education opportunities, disseminating knowledge about the constructive role of Arab-Islamic civilization in the progress of human civilizations, and meeting the communal need for specialists in science and technology arts. Having a qualified generation would help our country encounter contemporary and future challenges in various fields of life. The university also encourages scientific research, sets findings into practice, and uses modern technologies for the overall development of Jordan. Tafila Technical University has seven colleges: Engineering, Science, Business, Education, Arts, Student Affairs, and scientific research and graduate studies. The number of university students at the beginning of 2016 has reached approximately six thousand students spread over different programs: Bachelor program, two-year intermediate diploma program, higher diploma program, and master program. The number of faculty members has recently reached (237), whereas the administrative staff amounted to (631). The university has taken quick, confident steps towards the consolidation and assimilation of e-learning, online registration, and information technology among students and faculty members. Also, computer courses are regularly held for staff members to develop their computer skills the Computer Center has an integrated infrastructure, several computer laboratories, and technical competencies in the fields of computer and information technologies. The university has forged strategic partnerships with such international organizations as Microsoft, Cisco, and the Center for International Computer Driving License. Today, both students and employees realize that all academic departments' lectures start on the first day of the semester. As I demonstrate an equal interest in scientific research and scholarships, all faculty members should immediately submit their research proposals. Another merit of TTU is the small number of its enrolled students. The total number of enrolled students is similar to many reputed American universities such as Harvard and Princeton. This makes it feasible to communicate with students, provide them with educational and recreational activities, supervise their extracurricular activities, train them in the fields of their specializations, and enhance communication between students and their professors. Being the university president, I encourage students and their teachers to engage in constant conversations and dialogues. An additional merit of TTU is that students whose grade point average (GPA) in the General Secondary Certificate is below the minimum average for admission in other public universities can apply for diploma programs. If students get the minimum GPA for admission in Shamel or the comprehensive exam, they can transfer to bachelor programs. To offer study programs and disciplines of applied technology according to international academic standards. To support applied scientific research under the standards of advanced research and employ it to realize economic and social development in Jordan. To attract outstanding academic faculty, raise their capabilities, and continue their work for the university. To have a campus with the potential to polish students' personalities, develop their skills, and cultivate their creativity and innovative spirit. To enhance cooperation between the university and the local community. To develop a TTU campus and provide public services and the necessary infrastructure. To support quality assurance, which contributes to the development of the university. To efficiently manage financial resources. TTU seeks to be a leading university with a prestigious international scientific reputation that can domesticate and assimilate technical development and employ applied scientific methods to meet the community's current and future needs.
