Higher education in Lithuania is divided into the first study cycle (Bachelor's), second study cycle (Master's), and third study cycle (Doctoral) studies. Bachelor's studies in four years lead to a Bachelor of Science degree (B.Sc.) and Master's studies in two or one and a half years lead to a Master of Science degree (M.Sc.). The possession of a Bachelor's degree or other higher education qualifications is a prerequisite of entry to a Master's degree program. The Doctor of Science degree (D.Sc.), which equates with a Ph.D. or with a somewhat higher degree elsewhere, takes a further four years to acquire and is only awarded to those whose research provides a significant and original contribution in the selected field. Degree study program – the totality of study subjects that are mandatory to be completed and assessed. Studies at the University are executed under Bachelor, Master or Ph.D. degree study programs. After fulfilling all the study program requirements, the student is awarded a diploma of an equivalent qualification degree (Bachelor, Master, or Ph.D.). The basic unit of study planning is the study module. It consists of an independent study subject, which is taught for one semester. The study module can consist of various lectures; lab works, practice, seminars, student's independent work, scientific research work, designing, or other works. The study module can be mandatory, alternative (optional from the list), general, minor, and optional. Studies of each module are completed by evaluating students' knowledge and skills – a mark evaluates examination or student's independent work (project). By the intensity of studies, there are full-time and part-time studies. Full-time studies are the main form of studies while organizing all study cycles under degree and non-degree study programs. The ordinary scope of full-time studies is 60 credits, but no less than 45 credits. Part-time studies provide a possibility to study at a slower pace. Scope of one year of part-time studies cannot exceed 45 credits, and the total duration of part-time studies cannot be one and a half times longer than full-time studies, applying the rate of 60 credits. Graduation from studies of various forms provides equivalent education. The Kaunas University of Technology has 149 study programs, of which 60 are Bachelor's, 71 are Master's, 17 are Doctoral, and 1 – non-degree student programs. Sixty-one of them are taught in English. Kaunas University of Applied Engineering Sciences is well-known in Lithuania's education market as an educational institution with the traditions of engineering specialist training and with significant experience in training specialists - practicians. Its beginning goes back to 1920 when the first Kaunas Higher Technical School was founded. It was the first educational institution training engineering specialists in independent Lithuania. The growing number of international students is increasing. Kaunas technical college has a new student - Yunus Sepetçi, from Karabuk University (Turkey). Karabuk University is an international partner for several years already, and each year one or two students arrive for studies. Yunus will study in SP "Automobile Technical Maintenance." Muammar Erkenci from Recep Tayyip ErdoğanUniversity (Turkey) has successfully passed the Autumn semester examination and will continue his Electronic engineering studies in the Spring semester. We wish them good luck and lots of good impressions during their Erasmus + mobility period. Kaunas technical college develops international activities, strengthens relations with foreign partners, and looks for new cooperation methods. This year a "Material processing engineering" fourth-year student Rolandas Šertvytis became an exceptional graduate. His graduation thesis supervisor is a lecturer from Riga technical university and Riga technical college, associated with professor Viktor Gutakovskis. Kaunas Forestry and Environmental Engineering University of Applied Sciences (KFEEUAS) is established close to Kaunas city (central Lithuania) and provides higher non-university education (i.e., grants Professional Bachelor's degree), offering several study programs in the fields of biomedical and technological sciences. The University prepares engineers of Forestry (silviculture, forest management, etc.), Natural (forest) Tourism, Landscape Design, Hydrotechnical Engineering, Horticulture (Gardening), Cadastral Surveys and Real Estate Valuation, and Land Management. The University also provides vocational training and various professional courses for forest workers (e.g., forest machinery operators, chainsaw operators, etc.) and other specializations. The University dates back to 1927 when the first country's Forest School was founded in Alytus city. In 1939, the school was moved to Vilnius, and in 1963 – to Girionys (Kaunas region). In the Soviet period, the school was reorganized into Forestry Technicum, while after Lithuania regained its independence, it became Higher Forestry School. In 2002, the school acquired a new status – it became Kaunas Forestry and Environmental Engineering University of Applied Sciences (KFEEUAS), and its activities have intensified. In addition to forestry education, several new study programs have been launched: Landscape Design (2002), Land Management (2003), Hydrotechnical Engineering (2003), Recreation (2006), Cadastral Surveys and Real Estate Valuation (2007) and Horticulture (Gardening) (2016). The number of students since 2002 has been augmented almost four times, and now the University hosts about 1,000 students. In 2003, to develop advisory services, and Information Centre has been established at the KFEEUAS. The Information Centre organizes in-service courses for foresters, private forest owners, and farmers, raises public awareness, and disseminates news from sectors of forestry and environmental engineering. The University participates in ERASMUS, NORDNATUR, and other international exchange programs. It has made bilateral student and lecturer exchange agreements with higher education schools of forest management, landscape architecture, and environmental engineering from Scandinavia, United Kingdom, Belgium, Germany, Poland, Russia, Ukraine, Estonia, Latvia, Spain, Hungary, Turkey, and other countries. Every year about 5-7% of the University students study abroad; the exchange program also offers studies at the KFEEUAS in English and Russian languages. Since 2004, the University participates in international research and education projects. Our partners are forest research institutions from Ireland, Iceland, Estonia, Latvia, Poland, Norway, Finland, Sweden, Germany, and other countries. Since 2007, the University successfully implements projects funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania, promoting collaboration between Lithuania and East European countries. KFEEUAS organizes national and international workshops and conferences, where various up-to-date issues in forestry and environmental engineering are discussed. The University publishes Information Bulletin "Forest. Wood. Technologies. Standardization ". Since 2005, the University is carrying out projects financed by Leonardo da Vinci, EU structural and other funds. As a result of these activities, the University's intellectual potential and material training basis have enriched significantly. Implementation of the projects has led to the adoption of new training methodologies and a modern training basis to prepare forestry, landscape design, horticulture, and hydro-technical engineering specialists in compliance with EU standards. New laboratories (modern harvesting machinery, landscape architecture, floristry, environmental studies, forest surveying) have been established, and the old ones have been renovated. The University campus is situated in a beautiful area (Girionys settlement) surrounded by parks and forest stands, close to the Kaunas Sea. We closely collaborate with our neighbors – Dubrava Experimental-Educational State Forest Enterprise that shares its basis for teaching purposes. Kauno Kolegija/ University of Applied Sciences is a state-owned institution providing higher education in technologies, social sciences, biomedicine, humanities, and arts. It is one of the most prominent institutions of higher education not only in Lithuania but in the whole Baltic Region. Kauno Kolegija actively contributes to implementing the state regional development policy -study programs are realized not only in Kaunas but also in Kedainiai, Druskininkai, and Taurage. Altogether, it offers over 40 study programs. More than 8000 students are currently studying, and approximately 600 teachers are currently working here. The success of Kauno kolegija is based on the partnership among students, teachers, and employers in the process of training specialists who acquire higher education and practical skills within a shorter period, usually of three years. Close cooperation between Kauno kolegija and employers positively influences student employment in enterprises and other institutions. International cooperation is one of the Kauno kolegija priority areas. Participation in international networks and programs ensures active implementation of the Bologna Process provisions in academic and other activities. International cooperation aims to improve the quality of studies, applied research, and ensure Kauno kolegija graduates' compliance with the international labor market's continuously changing needs. The Kauno kolegija community cooperates with other education and research institutions, organizations, and associated business structures. This cooperation is carried according to the aims of the study process, the international labor market's needs, and the regional development strategy. Kauno kolegija / University of Applied Sciences was established on 1 September 2000 after the binary higher education system consisting of two types of higher education provided by colleges and universities was introduced in Lithuania. In 2005 a group of experts appointed by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Lithuania assessed the institution's achievements and progress following the evaluation procedure established by the law and gave excellent evaluation scores. After the accreditation, Kauno kolegija / University of Applied Sciences was granted the right to award a Professional Bachelor's Diploma and Diploma Supplement, complying with European Higher Education requirements. Today Kauno kolegija / University of Applied Sciences is one of the largest colleges in Lithuania, with about 7122 students and about 1000 employees (data of October 2014). Over 1800 students graduate from the university every year. The institution delivers the first cycle studies in technology, biomedicine, humanities, social sciences, and art. There is a wide range of study programs – a total of 56. All the degree programs are designed to equip the learners with profound theoretical knowledge and provide the full training of practical skills. Approximately 30 to 50 percent of the total study time at Kauno kolegija / University of Applied Sciences is spent developing students' practical skills. Students' age at Kauno kolegija / University of Applied Sciences year ranged from 18 to 60 years. The average student age is 22,4 years (data of October 2013). The tuition of almost two-thirds of the future professionals is covered by the state, while the remaining students pay tuition fees. The learners are optimistic about the modernization of studies: 75 percent of survey participants noted that the university's studies had met or even exceeded their expectations. The university has four faculties in Kaunas city and three regional departments in Kėdainiai, Tauragė, and Druskininkai. More than 70 labs and workshops are there.
