  1. Athens Academy is a beautiful community of teachers, students, parents, mentors, alumni, coaches, and friends dedicated to educating young people. Our mission statement guides us, "Athens Academy seeks excellence with honor in the educational and personal experience of each student." These fifteen words make it clear where we focus our energy. Our primary objective is to engage our students in meaningful work to be better prepared for college and life. What sets an Athens Academy education apart from all others? Athens Academy is built on four pillars: academics, arts, athletics, and service and leadership. These four pillars and our mission of "excellence with honor in each student's educational and personal experience" are at the core of everything we do, every day. We offer our students a highly talented and dedicated faculty and an innovative curriculum integrated media and technology programs an emphasis on integrity and honor, beginning in the earliest grades a global approach to learning, to prepare them for success in a rapidly-changing world opportunity for service and leadership beginning as early as Preschool and a wide variety of options for creative self-expression through the arts, technology, athletics, and more. For over 50 years, Athens Academy has been the leader in education in Northeast Georgia. With a focus on EACH child, our faculty prepare our students for that next step in their journey to college and life beyond. Whether you have a Preschooler learning his letters, a Lower Schooler developing her writing skills, a Middle Schooler solving algebraic problems, or an Upper Schooler exploring genetics, Spartan students are guided by expert teachers who help make learning creative and impactful. As an independent, college preparatory school, Athens Academy is committed to excellence with honor for and from every student, from the youngest Preschooler up through twelfth grade. Our curriculum is designed as a set of building blocks, with each grade building upon the previous year to set every child up for success. Experiential learning, creativity, and exploration are essential parts of the school day, critical thinking, and problem-solving. Faculty work hard to differentiate learning and meet every child's needs, with help from the Learning Resource Center. As one of Athens Academy's Four Pillars of Learning, visual and performing arts are vital for every student's education. Essential in nurturing creativity, critical thinking, and curiosity, the arts deepen students' understanding and foster an appreciation for other cultures. We strive to cultivate an understanding and love of the arts by providing a positive environment in which the student and teacher can appreciate and explore the creative process together. Athens Academy embraces the belief that all students have the potential to express themselves creatively. The department's goal is to foster and nurture each student as an artist or a performer and give each student the tools to be successful.

The office is also responsible for maintaining and reporting crime statistics for the university as mandated by the Campus Awareness and Campus Security Act of 1990. In December of 1822, a group of citizens from Athens, Alabama, had a vision for an institute of higher learning to serve the educational needs of the women in the community. After five acres of land was purchased and a single building was built, Athens Female Academy was born. The storied history that would eventually lead to the creation of Athens State University began. In 1842, ownership of the school was transferred to the Tennessee Conference of the Methodist Church. With the switch, Athens Female Academy became Athens Female Institute. This name remained throughout the Civil War conflict and through the birth of the North Alabama Conference of the Methodist Church in 1870 when the institution came under the jurisdiction of that body. Following this transfer to the newly formed conference, the name was again changed to Athens Female College in 1889. As the only institution in Alabama offering upper-division educational services, Athens State University continues to enjoy the essential and unique position it has always occupied within the community. With a firm history upon which to build its foundation, Athens State's colorful past has supplied the institution with the tools necessary to continue serving Alabama far into the future. The strategic planning process at Athens State University provides direction, objectives, goals, benchmarks, and actions that ensure the university's advancement both internally and externally. In compliance with the Board of Trustee's Strategic Direction Policy and the Strategic Planning operating policy established by the President, the Strategic Planning Committee seeks broad-based input in the development and implementation of strategic goals and plans. The university's vision, mission, and goals statements ultimately serve as the foundation for strategic planning. The primary mission of Institutional Research and Assessment Services (IRAS) is to assist and support institutional planning, management, policy formulation, and decision-making, through the systematic collection, analysis, evaluation, and dissemination of valid and reliable information.

    University of Athens

The idea of establishing a University in Greece emerged alongside the Greek War of Independence, also known as the Greek Revolution. The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, officially founded on April 14th, 1837, is the first University of Greece and the Balkan peninsula, and the Eastern Mediterranean region. The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), which recently celebrated 180 years since its foundation, is the oldest University in Greece and the first Higher Education Institution in the Balkan and Eastern Mediterranean areas. NKUA has eight (8) Schools offering a range of study areas defined by great variety and scope. Students can currently choose among 33 bachelor's and 183 master's programs and pursue doctoral studies. Thirty-nine thousand seven hundred eighty-nine undergraduates, 14,158 postgraduate students (at master level) and 8,753 Ph.D. candidates, as well as 5,727 registered international students, are pursuing their studies at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, supported by 1,643 professors, 402 other teaching and technical staff, as well as by 1.057 (administrative) staff members. Education and research facilities are located in an area of 700.000 sq.m. We aim at our graduates' personal and professional success. We endeavor to make them highly employable and gain influence and respect in their interactions with academics, researchers, and the community in general. One of our most important tasks is to train specialists to work in organizations and institutions operating in the economy, business, healthcare, the social sphere, etc. That's why the curriculum of our Departments is updated continuously, and significant educational and applied research activity takes place at the 76 University Clinics and the 210 laboratories distributed in almost all Departments of the University of Athens. Since NKUA is a research university, all faculty and researchers are engaged in pushing the boundaries of knowledge in their wide-ranging fields of endeavor. We encourage our students to participate and excel in Olympiads and international competitions in scientific fields of their interest. They are also invited to actively participate — in and beyond classrooms, laboratories, libraries, and museums. We believe that universities are about knowledge, innovation, as well as the pursuit of excellence. More than 60,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students have selected to study in one of our 33 Departments distributed to eight Schools. 143 Master programs are offered covering a variety of scientific fields and arts. Four of these postgraduate programs are offered in cooperation with major research institutes like the Biomedical Sciences Research Center "Alexander Fleming", the National Center for Scientific Research (NCSR) "Demokritos", the Greek Atomic Energy Commission, etc. A total number of 210 University Laboratories are distributed in all relevant Schools serving educational and fundamental and applied research purposes. Clinical research and education are also carried out at the 76 clinics of the School of Health Science. They operate in Athens hospitals (Attikon, Evangelismos, Hippokrateion, Laikon, etc.) or at the premises of the related Academic Departments. The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens is the largest state institution of higher learning in Greece and among Europe's largest universities. Like all other Greek universities, it is a self-governed legal entity of public law, and all major policy issues are determined by the Ministry of National Education and Religion. Retaining its academic autonomy, it fully respects the constitutionally secured right to everyone for free education. This is possible because the state funds it. Moreover, It is progressively succeeding to benefit from its property and legacies and the funding of research projects with national and international partners. All funds are invested in the management and operation of educational, research, and cultural programs, student and staff services, and grants. With a student body of about 125000 undergraduate and postgraduate students, over 2000 academic staff members, and approximately 1300 administrative and secretarial staff and specialized personnel, the University of Athens aims at excellence in both teaching and research in a significantly varied range of disciplines. The Faculties and their respective Departments, functioning within the eight larger academic units entitled Schools, as well as several independent Faculties, offer a wide range of undergraduate courses, leading to a Diploma equivalent to a Bachelor of Arts or Sciences degree (Ptychio in Greek), after a minimum of four years of studies. Moreover, intra- and inter-Departmental programs offer an expanding range of taught and research-based postgraduate degrees. Facilities for academic work and research are growing fast. However, because of the low ratio between academic staff and students in many Departments, presently, the possibilities for individualized attention to students and project work are limited, particularly in the humanities and social sciences. The Ministry of Education determines the number of Greek and international students admitted as full-time students each year. However, Faculties and their academic staff decide on the number of European students on mobility programs each semester. International students are welcome at the University of Athens and, in recent years, the number of non-Greek nationals studying in the various Faculties has increased. Some of them are enrolled as full-time students in undergraduate or postgraduate programs. In contrast, others are exchange students, studying at the University of Athens for one or two semesters and participating more or less actively in its academic life and the rich cultural life inside and outside the University. Indeed, many foreign and Greek students feel it is a privilege for them to live in the historic and cosmopolitan city of Athens and be studying in a university that has maintained its tradition and prestige for 180 years.
  4. The Harokopio University of Athens is a public university dedicated to promoting research and learning in a small, well-focused set of intellectual areas. The University, situated in the center of Athens and close to the Unesco World Heritage Centre of the Acropolis, originates from an educational institution that was first established in 1929 and gained the status of University in 1990. It takes its name from the national benefactor Panagis Harokopos. The University's excellent campus facilities house four academic departments, the central administration, the library, the IT center, and student advisory services. The Harokopio University of Athens is located close to many important cultural sites of interest, such as the Acropolis Museum, Thissio, Panathenaic Stadium (Kallimarmaron), Keramikos, and the Benaki Museum. The main premises of the University are located at 70 Eleftheriou Venizelou Avenue Kallithea. The main building complex is located within a tree-lined urban property of twenty acres and includes: The main building, which was renovated and restored during 1993-1994. Today, it includes classrooms, the main auditorium, laboratories, and all the University's administrative departments. The construction of this building was materialized during 1915-1920, while in 1959, a new wing was added. From 1929 to 1990, this building housed the old "Harokopios Higher Education School." In 2000, the University's infrastructure was completed by constructing a new modern building, including the Library and Information Centre, the ceremony hall, fully equipped laboratories, classrooms, and professors' offices, mainly of the Department of Geography. Additionally, the needs of the University are covered by one more building, located a short distance from the main premises. It is located at 89 Harokopou Street and houses laboratories, classrooms, and professors' offices. In 2011 a new building was completed in Tavros's area for the newly established Department of Informatics and Telematics and the University's Refractory. The activities of Harokopio University Student Affairs' department relate to the following issues: Ensure handling procedures related to the feeding of students Ensure handling procedures related to the granting of student housing benefit Ensure the collection, publication, and distribution of class notes Ensure the collection of approved applications from the Departments for granting student loans, which are transmitted by the Ministry of Education Issuing and administering health booklet Monitoring the implementation of Senate decisions, Acad. Departments and Rectorate regarding excursions, loans, financial aid, and scholarships.
  5. The National Technical University of Athens is structured according to the continental European system for training engineers, emphasizing solid background. After the acquisition of 300 credit units to a Diploma, the duration of courses leading, of Master's level, is five years. The valuable work of NTUA and its international reputation is due to its well-organized educational and research system, the quality of its staff and students, and the adequacy of its technical infrastructure. NTUA graduates were pivotal to Greece's pre-war development and post-war reconstruction. The graduate engineers who staffed public and private technical services and companies remained by general consent, equal to their European counterparts. Many have been elected to distinguished teaching and research positions in well-known universities all over the world. Under Article 16 of the Greek Constitution and consequent laws, and following its tradition and structure, the primary institutional component of the NTUA's mission, effected through the integrated complex of studies and research, provides advanced higher education of outstanding quality in science and technology. The apparent need for any significant institute of higher education to operate and offer education and research opportunities within a well organized and completely unambiguous internal system of principles, aims, procedures, rights, and obligations, led, between the years 1997 and 2000, to the in-depth internal and external evaluation of the NTUA's structure and activities and consequently to the drawing up, discussion with all NTUA's members and approval by the Senate and the Ministry of Education, (Government Gazette 1098/B/05.09.2000), of the NTUA Statute. This code of operation and development, considered as one of the best European University Statutes, defines that the primary strategy of NTUA in the new millennium is not only to maintain its position as an outstanding and internationally recognized public university of science and technology but also to strengthen that position as regarding all its basic operations. All other strategies, aims and actions must be compatible with this important strategic choice. Founded in 1837, almost along with the modern Greek state, NTUA is the oldest Technical University in Greece. The school quickly introduced reforms to make it better able to respond to the domestic needs of reconstruction and industrial development. Studies reached the three years, enriched with new disciplines, and the administration was taken over by the Committee for the Encouragement of National Industry. It was named "Metsovion" to honor the donors and benefactors Nikolaos Stournaris, Eleni Tositsa, Michail Tositsas, and Georgios Averof from Metsovo, a small town in the region of Epirus. After the introduction of a four-year degree course for civil and mechanical engineering, in 1887, the NTUA was able to announce that it "educates high-level engineers for the public service, industry, and construction" as competent as "graduates from the well–known engineering schools of Western Europe". The last major reform of the organization and administration of NTUA took place in 1917. The "Ethnicon M emotion Politechnion" acquired five high-level engineering schools: Civil, Mechanical & Electrical, Architecture, Chemical, and Surveying. Many subsequent changes since 1917 have led to its current form: a prestigious University of Science and Technology, with eight Engineering Schools and a ninth School of Applied Mathematical and Physical Sciences. The recent struggles against the military dictatorship of 1967-74 escalated with the student gathering at the NTUA Patission Campus on February the 14th, 1973, followed by an unprecedented brutal attack by the police inside the campus and the arrest of several students. These few days saw the growth of an impressive popular uprising centered at NTUA. The people of Greece and the country's youth all rallied in support of the students, united around the ideals: Freedom, Democracy, Independence, Education, and Social Progress. The toll of the Polytechnic uprising was tragic. Several demonstrators were killed, many more were arrested by the military police and were tortured for months in military prisons. The Junta fell a few months later, and Polytechnic is being commemorated every year on November the 17th by the students, high school pupils, the NTUA Senate, the democratic authorities, political parties, the Greek Parliament, and the people of Greece. The Polytechnic Uprising is an outstanding event in recent Greek history. NTUA honored the Uprising victims with a monument within its courtyard, opposite the gate which the tanks of the dictatorship demolished that night. The monument was placed alongside the column commemorating the National Resistance. The two memorials emphasize the continued struggle of the Greek people and the country's youth over the years.
  6. Welcome to the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. You may become acquainted with the oldest institution of higher learning in Greece and find out about studies, research, and each School and Faculty's various academic activities. You may also be informed about our rich cultural Program and the activities that occur daily throughout the academic year. You will find different types of useful information regarding the infrastructure and the services offered by the NKUA. The official language of the University of Athens is Greek, which is the official language of the country and one of the 23 languages of the European Union. The instruction and the examinations in all undergraduate programs courses are realized in Greek, while the writing books, the educational material, and the primary texts, which are distributed to the students, are in Greek. The students who enter the University as foreigners may attend courses in the Greek language for free to obtain the language competence their studies at the University require. This possibility is offered to the students currently studying in Athens for one or two semesters through the Erasmus+ Program. The language in which access to knowledge is achieved and the working language of the Postgraduate Programs that leads to obtaining a postgraduate specialty degree or to acquire a doctoral degree (D.D) is Greek, except if the internal regulation of the Postgraduate Program makes provision for the use of (an) another language (s) - as it usually happens in the "foreign languages" departments. The writing up of the doctoral dissertation for the Postgraduate Program or the dissertation for the doctoral degree may be realized in Greek or another language, according to the internal regulations of the Program. The bibliography that is suggested and is currently used in the Postgraduate is in Greek and other languages. For this reason, the knowledge of foreign languages by the prospective incoming students of the Postgraduate Program of the University of Athens is either obligatory or optional but desired. The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) is a learner-focused and research-oriented public University covering a broad spectrum of scientific fields. Its vision is to promote excellence in education and innovation in research, scholarly and other creative endeavors, and be actively involved with local, national, and global communities. The mission of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens is to advance knowledge and educate students in sciences and arts that will best serve the nation and the community in the twenty-first century. In all academic units, our researchers and faculty strive for innovation. In each member of the NKUA community, we seek to develop a passion for excellence and the ability to think critically and contribute to research and innovation. All academic community members are free from discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct in their learning environment and work setting. Everyone has the same access to facilities, rights, and obligations by the University policies and Greek and international laws. The historical profile of the University and its people determine its goals and priorities. We aspire to generate and share knowledge, ensuring significant contributions to public policy-making. We focus on the internationalization of our University and its openness towards our stakeholders. Our faculty is committed to excellence through the delivery of modern undergraduate and postgraduate education. They are also committed to implementing the highest standards in research, judged by professionals and their organization's comparators, across our range of subjects, thus ensuring that research and innovation are integral to academic excellence.
  7. Athens's technological education institution is the first in size among the technological educational institutions and the third among all the institutions of higher education in Greece. It comprises five faculties hosting thirty-six departments. T.E.I of Athens employs about 600 people as permanent educational staff,1700 people as educational on short term contract staff. During the last years, the permanently increasing number of students made us extend individual departments' administrative and educational activities and secretariats to some neighboring regions. T.E.I of Athens has a leading role in all the efforts for the technological educational institution's upgrade, and it has contributed decisively in their institutional development and social approval. Its main and continuous objective is the improvement of the provided education. This goal is being achieved by renewing the study curricula and the modernization of material and technical infrastructure to correspond to the multiple needs of the current job market. The existence and itinerary of the T.E.I of Athens have always been unbreakably tied up with the course of the modern Greek society, which submits the conditions to which our institution tries to correspond directly to keep pace with the developments and not just follow them. We have tried to make it quite detailed and exceptionally functional to provide all the essential information without being tiring. It also gives immediate answers to all vital questions of the scientific community members or any other citizens. We all hope that this publication will contribute to an upgraded image of T.E.I of Athens within the Greek society, which has always been the final recipient and critic of our work.

13. 14. 15. View full school
