  4. Saint-Joseph University (USJ) is a private Lebanese university that was established in 1875. The Lebanese state officially recognizes the University and its degrees by the private higher education provisions that govern higher education in Lebanon. The University was accredited by AERES (Agence d'évaluation de la recherche et de l'enseignement supérieur – a French academic research evaluation agency) in 2009. It is a member of the Association of Arab Universities, the International Union of Universities, the Association of Wholly or Partly French-Language Universities, the International Federation of Catholic Universities, the Federation of European Catholic Universities, the Association of Jesuit Higher Education Institutions in Europe and Lebanon, the Euro-Mediterranean Association, and the EuroMed Permanent University Forum. It has more than 200 cooperation agreements with different universities, including Arab, European, American, Canadian, Chinese, or Japanese. It houses the Society of Arab Dental Faculties' permanent headquarters, which is hosted by its affiliate, the Faculty of Dental Medicine. It houses the permanent headquarters of the Arab Confederation for Faculties & Institutes of Physiotherapy, hosted by its affiliate, the Institute of Physical Therapy. It houses the headquarters of the Confucius Institute for the teaching of the Chinese language and civilization. It houses the headquarters of the Japan Academic Center. The University's mission, vision, and values are defined in its Charter. They revolve around two main axes: teaching and research, but they are also the third axis of civic engagement. In that sense, USJ is a teaching and research institution. It promotes excellence and aims to mold its students into the best of the country and region, thereby opening wide the doors of opportunity for them. Not only that, but it also seeks to promote dialogue through biculturalism and plurilingualism, all while remaining a haven for reflection and character building. The Charter requires that all university community members be committed to advocating personal freedom while still being open to spiritual engagement. Members of all religious denominations, whose very plurality is idiosyncratic to Lebanese society, are called upon to participate in this advocacy, which implies an underlying theme of mutual respect and knowledge. The Charter also states that USJ serves all community members, regardless of social and ethnic distinctions, which explains the importance it accords to maintaining diversity in its faculty and student body. USJ refuses to follow one ideology, opting instead to make it has campused an open space for dialogue and exchange of information so as long as no freedoms are infringed, and no academic activities are disrupted. It hopes to act as leaven to the society it belongs to. USJ also accords great importance to its "third mission" mentioned earlier: civic engagement. The University is a pioneer in this field, having taken exemplary initiatives such as but not limited to, the following: The system of proportional representation used during student elections in order to better represent all political sides and encourage more people to participate in democratic life The "Opération 7ème jour" volunteer program that promotes civic engagement and the learning of social, national, and human values View full university
  5. We strive to create a better future by producing private school graduates who are equipped to fight ignorance through knowledge, core values, and strong personality development. At Albayan, we believe that a private school has a greater responsibility than just imparting knowledge. We are an educational and social institution that promotes stronger communities in Lebanon and globally. We use knowledge as a tool to help kids acquire real-world skills that will help them both in the workplace and everyday life. From helping young children to develop a love for education to helping teens qualify for university education at their school of choice, Albayan Schools is determined to produce an annual crop of productive and successful adults. Watch your children grow and thrive as we challenge and inspire them daily throughout their formative years. Our goal at Albayan Schools is to unlock each child’s potential for greatness and personal growth. We make it our aim to prepare students to both thrive and lead in a global society. To do so, we help children to develop and nurture: Academic excellence. Community responsibility. Confidence. Creativity. Leadership. Passion for learning. Teamwork. At Albayan Schools, we do more than simply impart knowledge. At the core of our education curriculum at the following values which we are sure you will agree are vital for any student to learn. Appreciation. Cooperation. Courage. Determination. Friendship. Honesty. Kindness. Respect. Responsibility. Tolerance. Private educational institutions differ from public schools in that we can integrate our core beliefs into the curriculum and activities we offer to students. Teachers must also be learners – Teachers join workshop programs at different levels to receive up-to-date curriculum requirements and to learn the latest education methods. Students learn best in a fair and equal environment – The efforts, voice, and background of all students who attend Albayan Schools are valued and respected, thereby maximizing education potential. Every student is unique. We strive to assist each student as an individual with his or her needs and skills in mind. From a kindergarten and elementary school to a college preparatory school that helps children develop from the age of 3 through high school graduation – see how Albayan has become the hub of education in Beirut that it is today. Here is a brief timeline of the development of Albayan Schools: 1994 – Founded with kindergarten and elementary school classrooms. 1995 – Intermediate classes begin. Our original building is expanded from 3 to 5 floors to accommodate more students. 2006 – A second building is acquired as a branch under the name Albayan High School. A high academic standard is one of the hallmarks of Albayan Schools. This makes our graduates a welcome commodity at private universities in Lebanon and across the globe. We also believe that difficult economic times should not result in fewer educational opportunities for children, so we strive to remain an affordable private school where children of the elite and those of more modest means can learn and develop together. The first years of preparatory school will influence how your child feels about education for life. As a result, we strive to create a happy, safe, and fun environment for 3 to 5-year-old students. Our approach supports the natural curiosity of children and stimulates their creativity. We also take a personalized approach to education. By keeping classrooms small (approximately 25 students), your child is provided with the benefits of one-on-one education and support. This is just one of the many reasons why a private school gives your child a head start in the future. Additionally, to create the best learning opportunities and experiences, we offer regular class tips that support the unique teaching techniques that are a vital part of our curriculum. Your child’s formative years require experiences that encourage a love of learning. That calls for the safe and loving environment offered at Albayan Schools. Of course, academics are also of the utmost importance during this time, and we deliver by using a unique and successful approach. The elementary school phase includes grades 1-6 and is divided into two cycles. The first cycle is for children ages 6 through 8, and the second cycle is for children ages 9 through 11. This allows us to meet specific goals with students based on their age and ability. Albayan elementary school students are exposed to a rich curriculum that includes field trips to broaden student knowledge as well as an end-of-the-year school play to expose them to the arts. Students in both cycles are taught science, math, and other basics such as Arabic, English, and French (parents choose between English and French as a major language in preschool, and the other is taught as a secondary, so all students receive instruction in three languages total). Students who take French as a major will be prepared to take The Delf Exam at the French embassy during their second cycle. This is an important time in the life of young students. Standardized tests that are required during these years may make a difference in which universities a student will be accepted to later. As a result, Albayan Schools takes these official exams very seriously, and we do our part to provide students with what they need for success. Albayan Schools’ intermediate education program includes grades 7 through 9 and students aged 13 through 15. In the second semester of grade 8, students are taught some grade 9 curriculum to begin preparation for the Brevet exam. The Brevet exam is completed at the end of grade 9, and the student receives a Brevet certificate at this time. Secondary education includes a three years education for students of ages 16-17-18. It’s composed of general education: humanities, economics, life sciences, and general sciences. When students complete three years of education, they take official Lebanese Baccalaureate exams Students who finish examinations successfully obtain the Lebanese Baccalaureate Certificate of Secondary Education. Moreover, students in the second stage are to undergo the SAT to get enrolled at the university. Our students are guaranteed to score high grades as they are fully adapted to the techniques they should be using during this test. Albayan schools work with various prestigious universities in Lebanon to conduct orientations in the school, as well as introducing all majors available in Lebanon this will help students meet with the university up-close and are then able to choose the major they would like to study. Students at Albayan also take part in the annual LAU Model United Nations. Albayan Schools are an official registration center for the IELTS exam. 6. Beirut International School is an old institution with a new vision. Established in 1980, and during years of success, this school has developed from a Kindergarten to a high school offering the Lebanese Baccalaureate. The growth of this institution in size and programs would not have been complemented and implemented were it not for the increasing demand for the type of education that BIS provides. BIS is an intellectually stimulating community responsive to the dynamics of its environment. It aims at serving the educational needs of Lebanon and the Middle East. BIS offers a high-quality education that prepares students to meet the growing challenges of a rapidly changing world. BIS encourages independence and self-discipline in an atmosphere of mutual respect and appreciation of diverse opinions and cultures. Education means more than the perusal of a specific course of study. It has to do with the whole being. It is the harmonious development of the physical, mental, social, and spiritual powers. “If the student fails to learn, the teacher fails to teach” we believe that all children can and do learn. What makes Schools’ Role is not just examining students, but treating and developing as well. Assessments, exams, school reports, and grades…are not our OBJECTIVES by themselves! On the other hand, we use them as TOOLS to help in developing and educating students. View full school
  7. Welcome to International College, IC is one of the oldest, largest, most prestigious international schools in the world, reflecting the unique blend of both the school’s and the country’s history, a long-standing commitment to academic excellence, and the “IC Spirit”, which becomes part of the character of each student that passes through the classrooms and hallways of the Ras Beirut and Ain Aar Campuses. Reflective of the value and importance IC places on multiculturalism and global diversity, IC offers four distinct diploma programs: the Lebanese Baccalaureate, the French Baccalaureate, the International Baccalaureate, and the US-style College Preparatory Program. Exam results for each of the diploma programs have been exemplary resulting in IC graduates being accepted to highly selective universities around the world. The early childhood program addresses the whole child through an integrated approach and aims to develop a close relationship between educators, parents, and classmates. The learning environment provides a warm, friendly, and joyful atmosphere that advocates itself to learning through inquiry. All content is taught using the target languages of Arabic, English, and French and works within the PYP curricular framework. The preschool staff aims to stimulate the learning of concepts, skills, attitudes knowledge, and action. The staff believes that children learn best through play during which they use concrete, multi-sensory experiences. Classroom play stimulates inquiry and presents challenges and opportunities to learn about the world in which children live. Moreover, it builds concepts and improves problem-solving skills. Teaching and learning are based on ideas, perceptions, beliefs, and matters raised by the students. The Elementary School educates children ages six through eleven. The school provides a safe, welcoming environment that fosters a love of learning through a student-focused, inquiry-based approach to teaching and learning. The philosophy of instruction addresses the whole child. Learning focuses on connecting the various disciplines: language, mathematics, science, social studies, personal and social education, physical education, creative arts including music, drama, and visual arts. To make learning relevant, engaging, meaningful, and challenging, children are encouraged to learn by inquiring, questioning, exploring, and doing. Different approaches are used to reach the widest range of individuals. The teacher acts as a guide/facilitator to help students discover concepts, principles, and generalizations. The ultimate goal of education at the Elementary School is to produce internationally-minded individuals who are compassionate, caring, responsible, and knowledgeable. The aim is to develop risk-takers (courageous), children with life-long learning skills like critical thinking and problem-solving, and character traits such as integrity, commitment, and good citizenship. Self-awareness is promoted through questioning, exploring, reflecting, and self-assessment. Open communication and cooperation among educators, parents, and students are essential elements. As partners, both parents and educators endeavor to help children reach their true potential and to aim for personal excellence. The Middle School of International College is a four-year cycle covering grades 6 to 9 (1st Intermediate to 4th Intermediate). It offers three different programs: The Lebanese program, which prepares students for the official Lebanese Brevet examination the College Preparatory Program, which is an English medium non-Brevet program commonly known as the High School program which prepares the students for the High School diploma or the International Baccalaureate and the French Program, which is a French medium non-Brevet program that eventually prepares students for the official French Baccalaureate examination. The IC Secondary School is a three-year cycle made up of four separate programs: The Lebanese Baccalaureate Program which follows a curriculum set by the Lebanese Ministry of Education The French Baccalaureate Program which follows a curriculum set by the French Ministry of Education the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program and The American College Preparatory Program (CPP), a non-baccalaureate diploma program. The Lebanese Baccalaureate Program is available to all students in either an English or French track for core subjects including maths and sciences. In the French track, English is taught as a third language and vice versa. In both tracks, Social Studies, History, Geography, Civics, Sociology and Economics, are taught in Arabic with the study of Arabic Literature and language mandatory. In the second year, students chose a focus in humanities or sciences and specialize still more specifically in the third year. The French Baccalaureate Program is designed to meet the needs of foreign and Lebanese students who wish to pursue the French Baccalaureate. All core subjects are taught in French. Upon successful completion of the Lebanese or French Baccalaureate program, students are eligible to enter at the sophomore level in all Lebanese and many European and North American universities. It should be mentioned that some students pursue both the Lebanese and French Baccalaureate simultaneously. The International Baccalaureate Diploma Program is a demanding two-year curriculum with a rigorous assessment component. It meets the needs of highly motivated students and prepares them for university by encouraging them to ask challenging questions, learn how to learn, develop a strong sense of identity and culture, communicate with and understand people from other countries and cultures. The IB diploma is recognized by universities around the world. Students admitted to the IB program hold a second nationality in addition to Lebanese, or they have an exemption from the Lebanese official program allowing them to engage in a non-Lebanese program. Good knowledge of English is a prerequisite as it is the language of instruction. The school that finally became International College was founded in Smyrna, Turkey in 1891 by Alexander MacLachlan, a renowned Canadian educator, as the American Boys’ School. In 1895 ABS graduated its first class of five students and renamed itself the American Collegiate Institute for Boys. In 1936, Dr. Bayard Dodge of the American University of Beirut invited ACI to come to Beirut and affiliate with AUB as its preparatory school. This is why for many years IC was known fondly as “The Prep.” During its first year in Beirut, IC welcomed 901 students from 37 countries representing 16 religious sects. IC was truly an international school welcoming students from all over the Middle East who came as boarders living in Thomson and Sage Halls. View full school

DISB kindergarten staff is committed to providing our students with the ultimate environment for a safe and joyful learning experience. Students are encouraged to share their ideas, give their opinions, make contributions, and use problem-solving strategies during individual or group work activities. A separate kindergarten handbook has been developed to describe the progression of skills from one level to another and to provide information about the procedures and regulations. The elementary level consists of 6 years (Grade 1 – Grade 6). The fundamental program used at this level is the Lebanese program. To ensure preparation, various aspects of this program have been modified to cater to the needs of the students’ learning continuum throughout their school years. Additionally, subjects and methods inspired by other programs such as the International Baccalaureate’s PYP apply to the curriculum at this level to ensure full preparation of the students for Middle School. At this level, we strive to create a stress-free environment that supports and nurtures the students’ emotional, physical, and academic growth. The Intermediate level consists of 3 years (Grades 7, 8, and 9). Grade 7 is a transition grade where students are given orientation for the coming years through an eclectic curriculum, which is shown in the program offerings table. Classes at this level are divided into two sections: the Lebanese Program (LP) and the International Program (IP). The material given at this level differs based on which program the students are in but is similar for the most part. The Lebanese Program for the Middle school level consists of 3 years (Grades 7, 8, and 9), and it prepares the students for the Brevet National Official Exams, and the DSD (Deutsche Sprach Diplom I & II). The International Program for the Middle school level consists of 4 years (Grades 7, 8, 9, and 10), which prepares the students for the IB Diploma Programme (in both its sections, English and German), and the DSD (Deutsche Sprach Diplom I & II). The Secondary School level consists of Grades 10, 11, and 12. Students are encouraged and taught to become principled, conscientious, and well-rounded. They develop freedom of thought that is practiced with a spirit of integrity and full responsibility. The IB Diploma Programme (Grades 11 & 12): a program based on preparation for the 2-year IB Diploma (English and German) awarded by IB in senior year upon completion of their exams (Refer to Appendix F). The IB Diploma Course Programme (Grades 11 & 12): A School leaving certificate, asserted with IB Course certificates, upon the completion of Grade 12. View full school
  9. The Beirut Evangelical School for Girls & Boys is one of the oldest educational institutions in Lebanon. It is the outgrowth of the first school for girls that was founded in West Beirut back in 1828 by the early pioneer American Presbyterian missionaries to Syria and Lebanon during the days of the Ottoman Empire. However, the year 1835 marks the date of the school's official foundation. For more than a hundred and thirty-five years, the school grew under the leadership of the Board of Foreign Missions of the Presbyterian Church in the USA. Then in 1959, a historical date, integration took place: The Presbyterian Church in the USA transferred to the National Evangelical Synod of Syria and Lebanon the responsibility of running all the educational institutions previously founded by the American Presbyterian missionaries in this area. The school continued to grow and prosper. In 1974, the school moved from its original location in West Beirut to the present new site in Rabieh, Metn. The school starts its educational program at the Nursery level and covers all Primary, Elementary, Intermediate and Secondary levels. The high academic standard of our school has been highlighted in the excellent results achieved by our students in the official government examinations. The school recognizes that each child is an individual, with unique personal characteristics. The school mission fosters intellectual skill building and social awareness and aims at establishing an atmosphere of brotherhood, open-mindedness, and self-expression. However, our school is not only concerned with academic standards but also with moral values. Therefore, the Beirut Evangelical School for Girls & Boys is the living embodiment of a profound act of faith. 11.
  13. 14. It is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge and the cultivation of high spiritual, humanistic, ethical, and moral values. The principal purpose of its existence is underlined in the School two cherished mottos.
