  1. Get a first impression of the modern premises of our school, which are located along with the excellent sports facilities on the grounds of Al Bustan Village. In our school, with the regular language of instruction German, our Kindergarten children start with early English. From elementary school, our students have two hours of Arabic per week. French is added as another foreign language in grade 6. The school objective is the central examinations in grade 10. With the passing of these examinations, our high school students - provided appropriate achievements - acquire the access authorization for the senior secondary school and can easily switch to any German high school to take their "Abitur". There is a Christmas party, a summer party, field trips, there is a parents' council, student representatives, as at any other school in Germany, a computer room, etc. Some of it has its regional character. Santa Claus, for example, is coming on a camel with his gifts at Christmas, the summer party is taking place by the pool, field trip destinations are often in the desert. Under the Mission Statement "Democratic, Innovative, Sensitive, Respectful", the German International School Riyadh looks back on more than 40 years of history and is also proceeds into the future. As one of two German schools in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, we offer students a smooth transition from kindergarten to tenth grade as a possibility to enter a gymnasiale Oberstufe (senior years). One of our future goals is the introduction of the GIB. Modern high-tech equipment, modern teaching methods, well-equipped science rooms, dedicated teachers, and an individual support concept (inclusive learning) characterize our small but mighty school. The good social climate at DISR is a daily glimmer of light in the middle of the desert. With the entry into Kindergarten, a new phase of life begins for your child. For you as a parent, this means letting go a bit more and entrusting your child with new caregivers. The different play areas and learning areas of our Kindergarten as well as the spacious outdoor area make it possible for the children to learn with fun, to be creative, explore the world, and develop their personalities. We want to encourage children to discover and understand the world, responding to their interests, arousing their curiosity, and strengthening their talents. It is important to us that the children develop good social behavior, so we promote helpfulness and consideration and respectful and friendly interaction with each other and take into account the individuality of each child. The employees of the Kindergarten are aware of their role model function. We provide the children with diverse, stimulating opportunities so that they can learn and research with all their senses and playfully and creatively engage with their environment. We accompany the children for a little period on their life path and support them. Therefore, we attach great importance to partnering with parents based on mutual tolerance, respect, and appreciation. As a German Kindergarten, the celebration of important traditional festivals of our culture is an integral part of our conception and something special for every child. We have great interest and respect towards all other cultures. The "main occupation" of children is playing. Children learn while playing. This is a fundamental aspect of our educational work. While playing, children find their options for conflict resolution, the development of social skills, and the acquisition of knowledge. The children decide for themselves, what, when and with whom they want to play. We assist the children in developing their playing ideas as a contact and guide. We provide them with a variety of materials and thus always give them new ideas. We primarily focus on the interests and the questions and needs of the children and their daily surroundings. We take the ideas of the children and develop them together with them (so-called "situational approach"). This active cooperation also animates our projects and topics. The conscious and learner-oriented contact with the English language in Kindergarten is intended to arouse the interest and enjoyment of learning languages. Simple language structures, e.g. colors, numbers, animals are taught and consolidated. The teaching of elementary language skills is playful and without pressure to perform. The children in our kindergarten come from different countries or from a multilingual environment whose first language is not always German. Under the name "Deutsch als Fremdsprache - DaF", children whose German language skills are deficient receive additional support for the German language. The first days in Kindergarten - Our goal is that the children master the transition to Kindergarten as easily as possible. Therefore, the adaptation of each child is individually discussed, planned, and carried out with the parents. For the start in our Kindergarten to be positive for your child, this time of adjustment is very important. It depends on many factors (age of the child, pre-existing Kindergarten experience, an only child, occupation of parents, disengagement of parents from child), and we can not say in general terms how it works and how long it takes. On the first day, parents or one parent join the child in Kindergarten and get to know the Kindergarten teachers, the premises, and the group. In a first conversation, the parents receive important information about the activities in the Kindergarten and the group. The teacher can make first observations and first contact. A first, brief separation can already take place in the case of a positive contact by the teacher. The course of familiarization is then discussed individually with the parents from day today. Our school offers a piece of home away from home, starting with two-year-old kindergarten children until they finish school in 10th grade. To best promote, challenge, accompany and support our students is our main interest. We are striving to establish further education after grade 10. Therefore, we aim to establish the gemischtsprachige IB Diploma program to allow our students to obtain a university entrance qualification at our school, and we are enthusiastic about this pedagogical approach and its implementation.

Social Learners Intercultural communication and interaction. Multi-cultural / multilingual school community. German culture awareness. Social action and service. Developing team spirit and skills. Ethical and principled individuals. Academic Learners Student-centered teaching. Student activating learning. Inquiry-based approach. Methodological competence. German language proficiency. Meeting national and international standards. Autonomous Learners Differentiated learning strategies. Integrated teaching and learning. Social and personal education and cooperation. The Kindergarten program in DISB is divided into three levels of instruction: KG1, KG2, and KG3. We aim to help children between the ages of three and six years old expand their knowledge, grow their skills, and develop their abilities. DISB kindergarten staff is committed to providing our students with the ultimate environment for a safe and joyful learning experience. Students are encouraged to share their ideas, give their opinions, make contributions, and use problem-solving strategies during individual or group work activities. A separate kindergarten handbook has been developed to describe the progression of skills from one level to another and to provide information about the procedures and regulations. The elementary level consists of 6 years (Grade 1 – Grade 6). The fundamental program used at this level is the Lebanese program. To ensure preparation, various aspects of this program have been modified to cater to the needs of the students’ learning continuum throughout their school years. Additionally, subjects and methods inspired by other programs such as the International Baccalaureate’s PYP apply to the curriculum at this level to ensure full preparation of the students for Middle School. At this level, we strive to create a stress-free environment that supports and nurtures the students’ emotional, physical, and academic growth. The Intermediate level consists of 3 years (Grades 7, 8, and 9). Grade 7 is a transition grade where students are given orientation for the coming years through an eclectic curriculum, which is shown in the program offerings table. Classes at this level are divided into two sections: the Lebanese Program (LP) and the International Program (IP). The material given at this level differs based on which program the students are in but is similar for the most part. The Lebanese Program for the Middle school level consists of 3 years (Grades 7, 8, and 9), and it prepares the students for the Brevet National Official Exams, and the DSD (Deutsche Sprach Diplom I & II). The International Program for the Middle school level consists of 4 years (Grades 7, 8, 9, and 10), which prepares the students for the IB Diploma Programme (in both its sections, English and German), and the DSD (Deutsche Sprach Diplom I & II). The Secondary School level consists of Grades 10, 11, and 12. Students are encouraged and taught to become principled, conscientious, and well-rounded. They develop freedom of thought that is practiced with a spirit of integrity and full responsibility. After the students enter their respective programs, they will commence their orientation towards the diploma awarded in their senior year: The Lebanese Program (Grades 10, 11, and 12): a program based on preparation for the Lebanese Baccalaureate Diploma awarded in senior year upon completion of their exams. The IB Diploma Programme (Grades 11 & 12): a program based on preparation for the 2-year IB Diploma (English and German) awarded by IB in senior year upon completion of their exams (Refer to Appendix F). The IB Diploma Course Programme (Grades 11 & 12): A School leaving certificate, asserted with IB Course certificates, upon the completion of Grade 12.
  3. DSK International (DSKI) is a German school abroad and an IB World School for children ages 2 to 11. At DSKI, we provide an exceptional, innovative education anchored by our German heritage and recognized for embracing the rich diversity in our learners and our world. We approach education holistically to ensure that students learn using their hearts, head, and hands. Our mission is built upon our German heritage and European values and beliefs. As a school community, we strive to be lifelong inquirers inspired by and challenged through authentic and meaningful learning experiences. Being committed to providing exceptional education, we foster international-mindedness, critical thinking, inclusion and respect for diversity, and the willingness to act with integrity and compassion. Our school was founded in 1909 as a German School to serve German, Austrian, and German speaking Swiss expatriates, traders, and missionaries living in the Kobe area. After a long history of teaching a German curriculum, the school changed its program in 2002 and offers since then one of the most internationally recognized primary school programs worldwide: The Primary Years Programme (PYP). We became a truly international school supporting students from all over the world! Students from any country are more than welcome, we would love to extend our international community! The school offers a very strong language program focussing on 3 languages: English (Native and English as a second language), German (Native and German as a Foreign language), and Japanese (Kokugo and Japanese as a Foreign language). At DSKI we offer so much more than a school. We offer an enjoyable and stimulating journey from one year old up to eleven years old. We strive to develop our students into well-rounded, multilingual global citizens who will have a passion for learning for life and a desire to make a change in the world. Under the expert guidance and care of our teachers, your child will flourish in an environment incorporating a wide range of subjects through our programs, and co-curricular activities. We offer a wide range of pursuits, activities, and services to make sure your child's development and your family's experience are world-class. The Playgroup at DSKI is a fun and interesting class for native and non-native English speaking children from 1 to 3 years old that is held on Thursdays for one hour. Using many songs, picture books, stories, puppets, and other props, games, role-play, and more fun and stimulating activities, children will learn target languages such as greetings, colors, shapes, numbers, action verbs, and short sentences. The class activities are widely acknowledged as effective methods of motivating young children to understand and learn the language. Educators emphasize that repetition is the key to success in learning a language and that songs are effective, entertaining tools for mastering pronunciation and rhythm. As parents will accompany their children to the class, parents can learn the songs, activities, and also the target language meaning they can practice with their children at home. The Early Years Program at DSKI consists of two primary groups: Pre-Kindergarten (children 2-3 years old) and Early Years / Kindergarten (children 3-5 years old). The Early Years department is equipped with facilities and resources that were designed with younger children in mind, and created to provide them an accessible and engaging space to flourish. The Pre-Kindergarten curriculum follows three original units inspired by the IB philosophy of “inquiry-based learning.” These units help children to build vocabulary, strengthen their developing social and motor skills, and prep them for entry into the IB PYP Early Years Program. Over two years, students in Early Years explore 8 PYP Units of Inquiry, providing them a foundation for the transdisciplinary themes of the PYP. In addition to unit experiences in the classroom, Early Years children embark on several exciting excursions throughout the year. Children also enjoy a rich weekly schedule filled with challenging and fun subjects including Art, Physical Education, German as a Foreign Language, Music, and more! Teachers aid children as they begin their journeys to become Lifelong Learners, providing a safe and support-filled environment where questions are welcome and play is the most important part of the day. The IBO (International Baccalaureate) is a non-profit organization based in The Hague, The Netherlands. It provides an educational philosophy and framework to ensure that schools all over the world are providing stimulating, relevant, and balanced programs for their students. As an authorized IB PYP (International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme) world school since 2006 and a German School Abroad, DSKI uses the educational plans from the Thuringia curriculum alongside the PYP Programme of Inquiry to create a comprehensive, inquiry-based program from Kindergarten to Grade 6. The resulting program focuses on delivering a holistic curriculum encompassing the academic, social, emotional, and physical aspects of learning. We are very proud of our DSKI Alumni. While the students are at DSKI we love watching them grow academically, socially, and emotionally. When the students leave we are confident we have provided them with an excellent education which will help them excel and to continue achieving in life. We are very happy to say that 90% of students are accepted to their 1st choice Kansai secondary school which we think is amazing!

  8. View full school
