About Me

  1. Founded in 1826, WRA is one of the country's top-ranked independent boarding and day schools, offering a dynamic and distinctive college preparatory curriculum on one of America's most beautiful campuses. Our setting in idyllic Hudson, Ohio, and our enduring values of excellence, compassion, and integrity provide the backdrop for a spectacular place to learn, with a pioneering mindset proper to our school identity. We are transforming high school education because we are so much more than a high school. We are an independent school, a boarding school, a coed school, a melting pot, a family. We are all unique, but as individuals, we have created a community. Our student body comes from across the globe to live, learn, play, and grow together on our campus in historic Hudson, Ohio. WRA students find their independence, learn to think critically, gain confidence, mold their futures, create new skills, and forever embrace their world ahead. Our rigorous academics rank us among the top boarding schools in the United States and top private schools in Ohio, but the WRA experience is more significant than that. The WRA experience is anchored in our values of excellence, integrity, and compassion. Whether in the classroom, on the field, on the stage, in the community, or at home, WRA Pioneers work hard, support each other and live with heart. Our faculty are not just teachers but advisors, mentors, coaches, and supporters of our students. Not to mention they are some of the smartest and most talented people you will ever meet. Some elements of Reserve have stayed the same because the things that matter most still matter here. Students thank their teachers after class. Passersby stop and say hello. We sit down for meals together. We all play sports. As a boarding community, we gather in our beautiful dormitories and in the on-campus homes of faculty to cook, play music, read books, and laugh. Always evolving, we have moved beyond the AP curriculum, have opened our high-tech dream space, The Wang Innovation Center, and offer students life-changing study through programs of distinction like Compass, Saturday Academy, and Beyond Reserve. You will read much more about our world-class faculty and students from around the country and the world on this site. A Western Reserve Academy education offers a transformational experience where students strive for excellence, live with integrity, and act with compassion. Our faculty cultivate intellectual curiosity through a challenging college preparatory program. Our students pursue a rigorous liberal arts curriculum and engage in opportunities beyond the classroom in arts, athletics, and service, ensuring growth in mind, body, and spirit. Western Reserve Academy's tight-knit community instills individual and social responsibility and welcomes and respects diversity while preparing students as citizens and leaders in an increasingly interconnected world. Even though we're approaching our 200th year, Western Reserve Academy is young at heart. Our history and traditions inspire us to grow, change, and pioneer. Our students today are smart, honest, and more inquisitive than ever. In a culture where acceptance and understanding is the norm, we take it to the next level. Saying hello as you walk down Brick Row, thanking others for their time and supporting one another through thick and thin.
  2. A public institution founded in 1971, UBO is a medium-sized university (around 20,000 students) offering a wide range of programs in all fields. It is a member of the Université Bretagne Loire (UBL), a regional coordination structure for higher education. The Université de Bretagne Occidentale (UBO) is in Brittany, on the north-western coast of France. It is a multicampus university, with the leading site in Brest and satellite campuses in Quimper and Morlaix. Brest is one of the world's marine science capitals and is home to 60% of French marine researchers and several influential organizations such as IFREMER and IPEV. The city is also famous for its sailing activities. Brittany's economic development is driven by the agri-food, health, and telecommunications sectors. French universities function via a system of collegiate administration. Each institution is led by a team of lecturer-researchers and overseen by a president, bringing together representatives from all affiliated faculties and institutes and student-elected delegates. The French government chiefly finances universities. French research is essentially academic, encompassing the work of university laboratories and their partner organizations. UBO is home to 37 laboratories, some of which are supported by prestigious French research bodies, such as CNRS, INSERM, and IRD. Each library is located in or near the relevant faculty or institute. Most of them are in Brest, but we also have libraries in Quimper, Plouzané, and several other Brittany towns. You are very welcome to use any of them. You will find vast multidisciplinary collections of books, journals, and many other printed documents easily accessible by browsing the open shelves and search catalogs. We also subscribe to a wide range of online resources. These include electronic journals (e-journals), databases, electronic books (e-books) and newspapers, and much more. The online resources and the printed documents are easily accessible via our website, UBODOC. Opening hours for the libraries can be found on UBODOC and the individual library web pages and information about specific facilities and services. To support student's and researchers' work, the UBO Library provides Marine Science collections, mostly held in Bibliothèque La Pérouse (BLP), and Food Science and Industry documentation, mainly located in Quimper. Les Bibliothèques universitaires also manage the BU ESPE, located in several towns around Brittany: Brest, Quimper, Rennes, Saint-Brieuc and Vannes. They are specifically dedicated to Education studies. Study spaces or individual study desks can be booked at most of the libraries. You can work in the BU de Lettres and the BU de Santé until 10 p.m. From Monday to Thursday. Our sites are equipped with lab rooms, Wi-Fi, printers, photocopiers, and information desks. Group or individual training sessions in literature and information skills can be organized on request. Studying at UBO offers students a wide range of aquatic sports, including windsurfing, sailing, surfing, and kitesurfing - all for only €25 per year! Stroll along the boardwalks at Moulin Blanc or the Château harbors and soak up the maritime atmosphere. You will find a variety of restaurants and cafes with inviting terraces. On weekends, the Rade de Brest sees the arrival of all kinds of sailboats, which you can admire from one of the many coastal trails that are particularly popular with hikers. There are three UBO three campuses in Brest: two are in the city center, and the Science campus (where the university halls of residence are located) is a 10-minute bus ride from Place de la Liberté, the city's central square. Brest has an excellent public transport system, with a tramway, multiple bus routes and cycle paths to help you travel around easily. Accommodation is both plentiful and affordable, with the average rent starting at around €250 per month. Consult the "Brest- campus" website for further information. Accommodation in Brest is varied and accessible. The cheapest cost of renting is one of the cheapest in the Grand Ouest region: the average price per m2 is €7.64, compared to €11.70 in the nearby cities of Rennes and Nantes, and over €25 in Paris! You can get to Brest by TGV or plane, but UBO also offers its very own car-sharing scheme, in collaboration with Roulez Malin. Brest is a lively university town, its streets animated with the energy of its 23,000 young people. There is a rich and vibrant cultural scene with weekly music, dance and theatre performances, and different festivals throughout the year. It is easy to get caught up in the city's attractive nightlife! Whatever your musical tastes, you will find what you are looking for in Brest, from classical music to the most famous music scene bands. View full university

Western University is formerly known as Niwattana University and has been authorized and accredited by the Minister of Education (Minister of University Affairs) to establish a private higher education institution under license no. 2/2540. On June 18th, 1997, the University was established to commemorate the auspicious occasion decreed by the late Bhumibol Adulyadej to bestow the royal title "Princess of Naradhiwas" to his late sister Galyani Vadhana. The University aims to sustain the country's growth in the central region and introduce more education opportunities to all regions of Thailand by emphasizing promoting the country's human resources development. The University's missions are guided by four main tasks: producing quality graduates, promoting research and studies, providing academic services to society, and preserving art and culture. The missions' totality is to promote the development of the country's human resources and ultimately address the country's need to provide higher education that produces human resources that are highly skilled, equipped with academic excellence, highly professional, and righteous. It strives to be recognized by society on its academic fields in health, medical science, humanities, and sociology by providing academic programs in bachelor, master, and doctorate degrees, and the University prides itself on the continuous commitment to serve society. 10. The University of the Western Cape is a national university, alert to its African and international context as it strives to be a place of quality, a place to grow. It is committed to excellence in teaching, learning, and research, nurturing the cultural diversity of South Africa, and responding in critical and creative ways to the needs of a society in transition. Drawing on its proud experience in the liberation struggle, the University is aware of a distinctive academic role in building an equitable and dynamic society. In particular, it aims to: Advance and protect the independence of the academic enterprise. Design curricular and research programs appropriate to its southern African context. Different global perspectives among its staff and students, thereby strengthening intellectual life and contributing to South Africa's reintegration in the world community. Assist educationally disadvantaged students in gaining access to higher education and succeeding in their studies. Nurture and use the abilities of all in the university community. Develop significant structures and conventions of governance, which are democratic, transparent, and accountable. Seek racial and gender equality and contribute to helping the historically marginalized participate fully in the nation's life. Encourage and provide opportunities for lifelong learning through programs and courses. Help conserve and explore the environmental and cultural resources of the southern African region and encourage a complete awareness of these community resources. Co-operate fully with other stakeholders to develop an excellent, and therefore transformed higher education system. The University of the Western Cape has a history of creative struggle against oppression, discrimination, and disadvantage. Among academic institutions, it has been in the vanguard of South Africa's historic change, playing a distinctive academic role in building an equitable and dynamic nation. UWC's key concerns with access, equity, and quality in higher education arise from extensive practical engagement in helping the historically marginalized participate fully in the nation's life. Towards the end of 2001, former UWC rector Professor Brian O'Connell assumed the Vice-Chancellorship amidst a plethora of processes to restructure the higher education system in South Africa. In 2002 the Minister of National Education mapped the future higher education landscape. One of the restructuring process outcomes was that UWC would retain its status as an autonomous institution. Under the visionary leadership of its new Rector, the University is now, more than ever, challenged to demonstrate that it is capable of competing with the best and of playing a prominent role in the intellectual, social and economic life of the nation. One of UWC's primary concerns for the future is its mandate to create and maintain a sense of hope for the nation while building an equitable and dynamic society. A second concern is its role in the knowledge economy. It remains committed to creating, preserving, and disseminating knowledge that is dynamic and relevant to a modern world's challenges and transforming society. A third concern, which is inseparable from the notions of hope and knowledge, is a concern with the agency - the will and the ability to act, to be an agent of change. A dynamic future beckons as UWC strives to remain a vibrant institution of high repute to pursue excellence in teaching, learning, and research. UWC believes that its strength will come from its ability to provide a nurturing space for its staff and students to grow in hope and create and share knowledge to inform the agency. University of the Western Cape (UWC) has steadily become one of South Africa's research-intensive universities over the past few years, with the capacity to produce and advance new knowledge in areas of recognized research strength and the translation of this knowledge through innovative endeavors. The Office of the DVC: Research and Innovation are thus tasked with the following responsibilities: Strengthening postgraduate offerings and explore options for expanding the program and qualification mix (QPM). Sustain an enabling research environment that promotes research. Maintain a critical mass of healthy, productive researchers. Establish and sustain robust, strategic, and mutually beneficial research partnerships. Grow and strengthen UWC's postgraduate culture and support to postgraduate students. Continue to build and strengthen its innovation capacity. View full university

The Department of Research, Extension, and Development evolved from separate Committees of Research and Extension of the Palawan National Agricultural College in 1972. It was strengthened by establishing the Palawan Agricultural Research Center (PARC) and became one division. Two of the four main functions of a higher education institution were separated into two departments by Board Resolution No. 26 s. 1993, namely: the Department of Research and Development and the Department of Extension, Non-formal and Livelihood Education and Cultural Minority Services. In 1999, it was started to be called the Department of Research, Extension, and Development. However, the two departments were transferred to the Office of the Vice-President for Academic Affairs in 2004. In 2006, research and extension were again placed under a new department, the Research, Extension, and Development Department through BOR Resolution No. 18., and on June 5, 2009, it was renamed as Department of Research and Development/Extension through Board Resolution No. 240 s.2009. The Library began the same time with the establishment of the Palawan National Agricultural College in 1963. Prof. Trinidad E. Palao first managed it. The Library was then housed in the present location of the Office of Student Affairs. It has an initial collection of almost 2,000 volumes of books acquired from school funds and donations from AEOP, PCARRD, Asia Foundation, FAO, and UNESCO. In 1985, the Library was transferred to the present building. In 1986, Mr. Anastacio Vergel de Dios took over the post as a Librarian due to the retirement of Prof. Palao. From 1989-1994, Mrs. Celsa Adier was designated as In-charge of the unit. The Library has undergone several changes in management after the resignation of Mrs. Adier. Faculty members were designated to supervise the Library, namely: Mrs. Rosalinda Cruz, Ms. Analyn Vergel de Dios, Mr. Erfen Bautista, Mrs. Santisima Sotabinto, and Mrs. Maphella A. Ruado. As of 2011, there are approximately 32,000 volumes of books at the Library classified and organized into seven (7) sections that include: reserve, circulation, Filipiniana, special collections, serials and periodicals, and instructional media where the non-print materials were housed. Mini-libraries were established in extramural campuses and colleges within the main campus. The Library is headed by a licensed librarian, an assistant librarian, casual employees, and ten (10) student assistants. This personnel attends to the needs of the library customers. The Western Philippines University is a state higher education institution located at Aborlan, Palawan. The University began as the Aborlan Farm Settlement School for the Tagbanuas (an indigenous cultural community of Palawan) in 1910. It became the Aborlan Agricultural High School in 1928 and the Palawan Regional Agricultural School in 1960. It was renamed Palawan National School in 1962 and became the Palawan National Agricultural College. Its name was again changed to State Polytechnic College of Palawan in 1995 under R.A. 8012, and in 2004 President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo signed the R.A. 9260 converting it to Western Philippines University. 19. While P.D. 1427, which legitimized its creation, embodied the above mission and defined its role in Western Mindanao, it merely echoed the same mission that saw the Zamboanga Normal School's establishment sixty years earlier. The institution, which started as a teacher training school in 1918 by the Department of Mindanao and Sulu, served the educational needs of the diverse cultural communities of the southern Philippine provinces. Today's Western Mindanao State University stands with the mandate of serving as a flagship educational institution and increasing access to quality education to a broader number of people in a more pluralistic social, economic, and cultural setting. It is further advances the philosophy that Education remains the most potent tool for change in socio-economic development and shall serve as a lead institution in the promotion of the same. In fulfilling its educational mandate, the Western Mindanao State University is tasked to perform a four-pronged function in evolving a simple educational framework relevant to social needs and standards. The University offers curricular programs that suit the needs of the diverse sectors of society, focusing on the development potentials of industries. It always initiates the review and revision of course offerings and updating their contents that should reflect the needs of the times. It believes that the relevance of its offerings can only be gauged by the extent to which its graduates serve the greater society's needs. The role of research is to expand the frontiers of knowledge. It remains to be Education's significant contribution to society's reservoir of knowledge and innovation. The university research function is anchored on CHED's long-term development plan, which provides that "Research in priority areas shall be pursued not only for improving educational programs but also for advancing inventions and technologies." Research continues to set the base for knowledge acquisition and application in rational decision-making and problem-solving. The extension's primary goal is to reach out to peoples and communities who usually cannot avail of the services of the formal educational system. It mostly involves the formulation and administration of diversified technical, educational, and community development services mostly concentrated in depressed areas. Extension services aim to improve the quality of life at the grassroots level and create complementary services to industry, the academe, and the community in the vision of sustainable development. The University's production function's performance complements the concern of developing and utilizing the maximum potentials of both its human and capital resources. It rests on enhancing the output potentials of units to provide a sustainable source of income to finance its many educational and social concerns. This is to aid in the unburdening government of the bloating costs of subsidy in state-run colleges and universities' operations. While production would show direct evidence of educational institutions' relevance in actual social processes, the generation of alternative sources of income from production ventures would help spur and sustain the growth and development of the University. The University of Choice for higher learning with robust research orientation produces socially responsive and responsible professionals for human development, ecological sustainability, peace, and security within and beyond the region. The Western Mindanao State University is committed to provide internationally recognized quality education and to be the lead provider of quality human resources and research and development in the country and the ASEAN region in compliance with international, national, and local statutory and regulatory requirements. The University commits itself to ensure that its internal and external clientele receive the highest quality service that exceeds their requirements. In so doing, the management shall continually monitor, review, and improve the University's systems and processes by maintaining a comprehensive and useful quality management system concerning the standard and requirements of ISO 9001:2015. The original home of the present Western Mindanao State University (Normal School) library saw her first light as a baby library, located at the balcony, second floor, just behind the Social Hall (Assembly Hall) of the main building in 1918. The library had two entrances. The most exciting and famous winding stairs were once upon a time our beloved Mayor Cesar C. Climaco, Minister Romulo M. Espaldon, and so many other prominent that finished their pre-war school in the region used the stairs often during their student days. After the war, the Zamboanga Normal School increased her school population, and the number of books increased. A two-story wooden building was constructed behind the main building with Mrs. Pilar Duldulao as the head librarian. Under R.A. 3272, as approved by the President of the Philippines on June 17, 1961, the Zamboanga Normal School became the Zamboanga Normal College, as it opened a graduate course in Education. In 1969 it further transformed into the Zamboanga State College under Republic Act No. 5492. There was an increase in enrollment because of the other courses offered. These led to the construction of a library building at the cost of Php 312,706.00. It was completed and turned over to Mrs. Abundia E. Ortega and the library staff members on the morning of December 15, 1971. Transfer of the library properties from the old library building to the new one was made, and the students were able to use the new library after the Christmas vacation. The spacious and well-ventilated library is conducive to serious study and research by the students and faculty members. Nine years later, with the expansion of the curricular offerings on June 10, 1978, the ZSC was converted into the present Western Mindanao State University following President Degree No.1427 to meet the region's educational needs. As the University population expanded, the library became smaller. The library extension building was built at three (3) million to house the Periodical and Law Section, first floor, and the Graduate Library, second floor. It was completed and turned over to Mrs. Purification S. Pichel and the library staff on September 29, 1979. Although the extension was made because of convenience and accessibility for the Agriculture and Science students, a mini-library was provided in their respective buildings. As a developing University, the extension for all existing library facilities to the different Colleges, like the College of Engineering, College of Arts and Science, College of Education and other Colleges in the future, should have their libraries. All of these lies in the planning and the full implementation rest upon the budget of the University. View full university

They attest to the School's commitment to providing a well-trained, competent workforce and professional leadership with integrity. Since 1964, years of productive endeavors resulted in a long list of alumni who have done well for the growth of Iloilo and the global community. The success of the Western Institute of Technology can be gauged by the graduates who stand out in competition among graduates of other schools along their lines of specialization. Having produced more than 200 topnotchers in the different licensure examinations given by the Professional Regulation Commission is a feat that placed W.I.T. among the country's top engineering schools – formidable accomplishments, indeed. Sometime in the early part of 1953, the faculty members under the leadership of Dean Retogo A. Aldeguer of the College of Engineering of the former Iloilo City Colleges (I.C.C.) – now University of Iloilo-PHINMA – signed an agreement with the Comptroller of said School to take over the management of the I.C.C. College of Engineering which was then offering Civil and Mechanical Engineering courses. Engr represented the faculty members. Rego A. Aldeguer as the Dean and Engr. Ricardo T. Salas as the Assistant Dean. The agreement would be for five (5) years, subject to renewal for another five (5) years, at both parties' options. After the first five (5) years had elapsed, the agreement was renewed for another five (5) years. When the second term was about to expire, the school administration of I.C.C. turned down the renewal because the School was applying for university status. For ten (10) years while the agreement was in force, the group developed so close a relationship and fellowship among themselves that the imminent parting of ways was unacceptable. And so, the plan to put up a school of their own was born. During the early stage of planning, their biggest problem was lack of finances. Engr. Ricardo T. Salas pooled together the resources of family and friends, and the group was able to raise P200,000.00. Under his leadership, they then formed a stock corporation. This was named the Western Institute of Technology of the Philippines, Incorporated, with an authorized capitalization of P500,000.00 and a paid-up capital of P75,000.00. The Corporation was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission in 1962 with the following incorporators and stockholders, now referred to as the "Organizers of W.I.T." Iloilo Rizal College was then offering Bachelor of Science in Commerce, Associate in Secretarial Science, and High School, all of which were given recognition by the Department of Education. The new leadership converted the School to a technological institution and offered engineering courses and chemistry. For this purpose, the following definite steps were taken: Changed the name of the School from Iloilo Rizal College to Western Institute of Technology and amended the name of the Corporation from Panay Educational Institutions, Inc. to Western Institute of Technology, Inc. The name change required the shortening of the corporate life of the previously formed Western Institute of Technology of the Philippines, Inc. Submitted a petition to the Bureau of Private Schools to offer complete degree courses in Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering and the first two (2) years of the B.S. Chemistry course Increased the authorized capitalization from P200,000.00 to P1,000,000.00 to finance the construction of buildings and laboratories and the purchase of the necessary engineering equipment, apparatuses, and library books Changed the name of the Board of Directors to Board of Trustees and increased its membership from five (5) to ten (10) Changed the titles President and Vice President to Chairman and Vice-Chairman, respectively, to distinguish them from the President and Vice President of the School Paid in full the balance of the lot purchased from C.N. Hodges. The construction of classrooms and laboratories, which were prepared by Architect Luis J. Dichupa, proceeded under Engr's supervision. Ricardo T. Salas, with the able assistance of Mr. Tomas S. Tolentino, procured the needed building materials. To save on the cost of cement and reinforcement steel bars, these materials, which were bought for the renovation of River Queen Hotel, formerly the "Ledesma Hotel," were used for the School. This resulted in savings for the School since they were obtained earlier at a lesser cost. The necessary laboratory equipment, apparatuses, and library books were purchased. Equipment and laboratory apparatuses that were not available in the market were manufactured in our shop. To facilitate the work, the group readily accepted Mr. Leon Sollezato to sell to the Corporation his machine shop tools and equipment, which he brought to Iloilo from Mindanao. He invested the proceeds of the sale as shares of stock in the Corporation. Because of his proficiency in machine shop practice, Mr. Solleza was appointed Shop Superintendent. View full university
