  1. Founded in 1826, WRA is one of the country's top-ranked independent boarding and day schools, offering a dynamic and distinctive college preparatory curriculum on one of America's most beautiful campuses. Our setting in idyllic Hudson, Ohio, and our enduring values of excellence, compassion, and integrity provide the backdrop for a spectacular place to learn, with a pioneering mindset proper to our school identity. We are transforming high school education because we are so much more than a high school. We are an independent school, a boarding school, a coed school, a melting pot, a family. We are all unique, but as individuals, we have created a community. Our student body comes from across the globe to live, learn, play, and grow together on our campus in historic Hudson, Ohio. WRA students find their independence, learn to think critically, gain confidence, mold their futures, create new skills, and forever embrace their world ahead. Our rigorous academics rank us among the top boarding schools in the United States and top private schools in Ohio, but the WRA experience is more significant than that. The WRA experience is anchored in our values of excellence, integrity, and compassion. Whether in the classroom, on the field, on the stage, in the community, or at home, WRA Pioneers work hard, support each other and live with heart. Our faculty are not just teachers but advisors, mentors, coaches, and supporters of our students. Not to mention they are some of the smartest and most talented people you will ever meet. Some elements of Reserve have stayed the same because the things that matter most still matter here. Students thank their teachers after class. Passersby stop and say hello. We sit down for meals together. We all play sports. As a boarding community, we gather in our beautiful dormitories and in the on-campus homes of faculty to cook, play music, read books, and laugh. Always evolving, we have moved beyond the AP curriculum, have opened our high-tech dream space, The Wang Innovation Center, and offer students life-changing study through programs of distinction like Compass, Saturday Academy, and Beyond Reserve. You will read much more about our world-class faculty and students from around the country and the world on this site. A Western Reserve Academy education offers a transformational experience where students strive for excellence, live with integrity, and act with compassion. Our faculty cultivate intellectual curiosity through a challenging college preparatory program. Our students pursue a rigorous liberal arts curriculum and engage in opportunities beyond the classroom in arts, athletics, and service, ensuring growth in mind, body, and spirit. Western Reserve Academy's tight-knit community instills individual and social responsibility and welcomes and respects diversity while preparing students as citizens and leaders in an increasingly interconnected world. Even though we're approaching our 200th year, Western Reserve Academy is young at heart. Our history and traditions inspire us to grow, change, and pioneer. Our students today are smart, honest, and more inquisitive than ever. In a culture where acceptance and understanding is the norm, we take it to the next level. Saying hello as you walk down Brick Row, thanking others for their time and supporting one another through thick and thin.
  2. In research labs and lecture halls, we spend every day asking—and discovering—how to solve the most significant issues of today and tomorrow. From stopping cancer in its tracks to reversing Alzheimer's disease symptoms, from preventing school violence to understanding how businesses work, groundbreaking research takes place daily on our campus. Case Western Reserve University improves and enriches people's lives through research that capitalizes on the power of collaboration and education that dramatically engages our students. We aim to be recognized internationally as an institution that imagines and influences the future. Toward that end, we will: Support the advancement of thriving disciplines as well as new areas of interdisciplinary excellence. Provide students with the knowledge, skills, and experiences necessary to become leaders in a world characterized by rapid change and increasing interdependence. Nurture a community of exceptional scholars who are cooperative and collegial, functioning in an atmosphere distinguished by support, mentoring, and inclusion. Pursue unique opportunities to build on our unique features, including our relationships with world-class health care, cultural, educational, and scientific institutions in University Circle and greater Cleveland. We are glad you asked! Case Western Reserve is located in Cleveland, Ohio, just 5 miles east of downtown. We're situated in the heart of University Circle, one of the city's most vibrant and culturally robust communities, and interested in attending Case Western Reserve University? With hundreds of programs, top-notch research opportunities, and the chance to learn from—and get to know—distinguished faculty, you'll find just what you're looking for on our urban campus in Cleveland, Ohio. Undergraduate students apply to Case Western Reserve University and are welcome—and encouraged—to take courses across the board, from biomedical engineering to dance, psychology to physics. Graduate or professional, postdoc or research associate—three out of every five Case Western Reserve students are working toward advanced degrees from top-ranked programs in engineering, medicine, law, dentistry, social work, business, arts, and sciences. Some programs—including master's degrees and doctorates from biomedical sciences, Case School of Engineering and College of Arts and Sciences, and doctorates in nursing, social welfare, and management—call for applications through the Central School of Graduate Studies. We are proud that a growing number of students from around the world are choosing Case Western Reserve. In fact, in the 2014-15 academic year, 10 percent of all undergraduate students and 19 percent of students overall are from outside the U.S. Cleveland often is hailed in the press as a hot new dining city, and it has long been renowned for its art scenes in neighborhoods such as Tremont, Ohio City, and Collinwood. From African-American theater at Karamu House and indie concerts at the Beachland Ballroom to Friday-night polka-rock in Gordon Square and Saturday-morning shopping at the West Side Market, opportunities abound for a busy life. Plus, you are also just a short bus ride from Playhouse Square, the country's largest performing arts center outside New York City. Want to cheer on a team in the stands rather than catch a show? You are in luck. The Cleveland Cavaliers basketball team, Cleveland Browns football team, and Cleveland Indians baseball team all play in venues downtown. Moreover, each year during commencement, graduates and their families can see the Cleveland Marathon racing through the city. Students can cross-register at the Cleveland Institute of Art and the Cleveland Institute of Music, whose buildings are among the university's north campus. Meanwhile, dozens of the country's best medical centers — Cleveland Clinic, MetroHealth, and University Hospitals of Cleveland—call the area home. Moreover, that's just the start. Cleveland's Little Italy bustles just off-campus and leads to various food, shopping, and nightlife spots—Coventry, Shaker Square, and Cedar-Lee, to name a few—in the nearby Cleveland Heights Shaker Heights communities. Western Reserve College was founded in 1826 in Hudson, Ohio, about 30 miles southeast of Cleveland. The college—the first in northern Ohio—took its name from the surrounding region (known at that time as the Western Reserve of Connecticut) and emphasized standards, such as the classics, in its curriculum. However, it stood out in the mid- and late-19th century as one of only a few institutions that sought innovation and embraced the sciences. By 1887, the college had begun hiring forward-thinking scientists, including Edward E. Morley, best known for his collaboration with fellow professor Albert Michelson on the Michelson-Morley Experiment, which inspired Albert Einstein's work in relativity. As the 20th century neared, the city of Cleveland, Ohio, was on the rise. A post-war economy vaulted Cleveland to the forefront of American cities with unprecedented population and financial growth. Moreover, it was hungry for a university. With funding from American industrialist Amasa Stone, the college moved in 1882 to "uptown" Cleveland, where it lives today, and assumed Western Reserve University. As one of the nation's top research universities, Case Western Reserve is committed to investigating new areas, questioning long-held beliefs, and finding answers. Our libraries' network helps our students, faculty, and staff conduct cutting-edge research—whether it is using state-of-the-art technology or an expansive collection of books. Our libraries enable innovation and academic engagement while providing collaborative spaces for learning, teaching, and research. We provide strategic leadership in developing policies, procedures, and programs that will foster diversity, inclusiveness, and a welcoming environment for faculty, staff, students, and others. The Office for Inclusion, Diversity, & Equal Opportunity promotes diversity and strives to foster an inclusive community through several programs and initiatives. The calendar will bring together the array of campus diversity and inclusion activities, upcoming events, holidays, and observances in one location. Diversity 360 provides ongoing programming to assist campus community members in creating a welcoming campus climate at CWRU. The university responds to the White House announcement that it will end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).
