This school was established in 1905 as an elementary trade school known as the Iloilo Trade School. By Commonwealth Act No. 313, in 1939, the school was converted into a National School of Arts and Trade with Iloilo School of Arts and Trades as its official name. In 1940, the school offered the Two-year Teacher Education Curriculum for the secondary trade school graduates and the Three-Year Education Curriculum for graduates in public high school. In 1951, the school was authorized to open a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Education (BSIE). The school was made a training center in developing an industrial arts program when the team of Industrial Educators from Stanford University arrived in 1957. In 1968, it also became a training center for implementing the reconstructed human resources program of the National Manpower and Youth Council. In 1974, the Educational Development Project Implementation Task Force (EDPITAF) identified the school as the Regional Staff Development Center (RSDC) for Practical Arts in Western Visayas. It also pioneered implementing the graduate program for vocational-technical education in 1976, offering the degree Master of Arts in Teaching Vocational Education. In May 1983, by Batas Pambansa Blg 395, the school was converted into a chartered state college known as the Western Visayas College of Science and Technology. The College has grown into a leading technological and professional workforce development institution as it serves Region VI and the whole country. To meet its vision as the Center of Excellence in Science and Technology, the College has established its Local Area Network (LAN) that links different colleges and departments to the internet for the virtual world's vast resources. 2. In the wake of World War II, the entire country echoed with reconstruction as it rose from the ashes of destruction. The University of the Philippines reopened at its old site in Padre Faura, Manila. Long considered as an essential component in Philippine education, a UP degree opens doors for employment opportunities. It offers a promise of improvement in the quality of life for those who earn it. Even if many colleges in Iloilo sprang up after the war, the desire to have a UP education in this part of the country resonated in the hearts of the Ilonggos. On 18 December 1945, the Municipal Board of Iloilo authorized a resolution for the opening of a branch of UP in Iloilo City at the Iloilo City Hall site. One year and seven months later, the University of the Philippines Iloilo College (UPIC) opened its door in July 1947. It started with a Lower Division for third and fourth-year high school students and an Upper Division for first and second-year college levels. In just seven years, UPIC earned the status of being a full-fledged college and was renamed UP College Iloilo (UPCI) in 1954, offering undergraduate and graduate degree programs, including a complete high school. This is the 3rd year that HSU has reached out to the community to promote good health. It brought free consultation, circumcision, dental treatment, and laboratory services to the barangay residents.
      3. A Leading State University in Technological and Professional Education. Develop a Strong Technologically and Professionally Competent Productive Human Resource Imbued with Positive Values Needed to Propel Sustainable Development. EVSU addresses its academic endeavors towards developing the socio-economic condition of region VIII by emphasizing human resources and necessary input to production and growth. It plays a significant role in providing the human resources for industrial agri-business enterprises and the small, medium, and large-scale industries, which are the components for regional development. The College of Architecture & Allied Discipline has its humble beginnings as a 4-year course under the Civil Engineering Department of the College of Engineering. The course was opened in 1976 by LIT Board Resolution No. 747, s. 1976. The program was revised into a five-year ladder-type curriculum in SY 1981-1982 thru Board Resolution No. 1288, s. 1980, in compliance with the Ministry of Education Culture and Sports (MECS) Order No. 32, s. 1979. in the same school year, the program became a separate department under the LIT College of Engineering. The Bachelor of Science in Interior design was approved in principle thru Board Resolution No. 30, s. 1998 and took effect in SY 1999-2000. In line with its commitment to pursue academic excellence, the college continues to produce quality graduates and board topnotchers. From 1990 to the present, it has produced two board placers in Interior Design and nine topnotchers in the Architects Licensure Examinations. It ranked fourth place in the top-performing schools in January 2004 Licensure Examinations. The College of Arts and Sciences began as a college in 1982 with Prof. Gaudencia Genotiva as Dean. Courage, risk-taking efforts, and deep commitment to development served as guiding principles in the pioneering stage of building a new college. The college started from barely a small room with only a table and a chair as facilities. It took time to "build" not only human resources but also physical resources. The college started with the supervision of two programs, namely Bachelor of Arts in (A.B.) Economics and Bachelor of Arts (A.B.) Accounting. Integrating the supervision of the "arts and sciences" of the Institute was a critical accomplishment made. The supervision of the first two years, which is general education program either discipline in the arts and sciences took much courage, but streamlined management for efficient and effective service resulted in the risk-taking efforts of the "pioneer" staff and faculty of the college built confidence in the whole Institute to continue developing this service college. The College of Business and Entrepreneurship started as a department under the College of Arts and Sciences. But because of the realignment of business-related courses, COBE was established as a separate College effective August 27, 2002, upon the Board of Trustees' approval. Society today is pervaded by a technology that is changing at an ever-accelerating pace. Every sector of the community is challenged to respond appropriately to the needs of the time. The Eastern Visayas State University, as a technological state university in this part of the region, continuously envisions offering relevant courses. Specifically, The College of Technology never ceases to be challenged in expanding and clarifying its functions. It has reevaluated the current emphasis of technology courses and has evaluated curricular functions that would best reflect current technological trends. It is an accepted fact that one of the main characteristics of the technological world is change. It can also be said that one of the main characteristics of an effective educational program in the school curriculum is change. The Eastern Visayas State University had its humble beginnings in 1907 as a Provincial school. It became a separate educational entity in 1915 and was renamed the Leyte Trade School, funded by the Provincial government. In 1953, after thirty-eight years, it was renamed as the National Provincial Trade School under R.A. 406 funded jointly by the National and Provincial Government to cover a wider curricular area. In 1961, the Congress of the Philippines passed Republic Act 1516, converting it into the Leyte Regional Arts and Trades and authorizing it to become a training institution for vocational and industrial education in Eastern Visayas. Finally, the Republic Act 4572 was enacted by the Philippines' congress, which took effect in the school year 1965-1966, further converting the school into a chartered college. It was renamed the Leyte Institute of Technology, an institute of higher learning committed to the service of a larger academic area of responsibility. For SY 1999-2000, LIT has its satellite campus, the Ormoc satellite Campus. In 1999, under the provisions of RA 7722, 8292 and 8745 and Board Resolutions No. 59, Series of 1999, two CHED Supervised institutions (CSIs) in Leyte, namely the Leyte College of Arts and Trades and the Burauen Polytechnic College, were integrated to LIT. The LIT Dulag Campus started in SY 2000-20001. The Carigara School of Fisheries was integrated into LIT, the second phase of CSIs institution to SUCs. In 2002-2003, LIT had continued accomplishing its significant role and responsibility to the people in the region. The introduction of new programs, technological and business, the realignment of courses, and the high-passing percentage of the engineering and other professional programs established a great challenge and tremendous responsibility to the institution. Finally, in 2004, Republic Act 9311 converted the Leyte Institute of Technology into Eastern Visayas State University, a challenge to serve Eastern Visayas through academic excellence and technological development.
      4. At present, UPV, located strategically in three campuses in Regions 6 and 8, continues to be at the forefront of higher education, pioneering academic programs relevant to local and national development. The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) provides the general education program that is the foundation of all university academic programs. The College equips the students with basic knowledge in the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities, the skills necessary to communicate and analyze and integrate knowledge, and learn independently and think critically. It offers interdisciplinary programs with significant double support or complementary to those offered by other colleges. The College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS) of the University of the Philippines Visayas is at the forefront of fisheries education. Over the years, the College has instituted degree programs that address the need for sustainable development of the country's fisheries resources and respond to the call for a highly trained workforce in the field. Its curricular offerings, both at the graduate and undergraduate levels, aim to impart theoretical knowledge and practical skills and develop analytical capabilities as tools toward innovative approaches and solutions to fisheries and related problems. During the term of UP President Onofre D. Corpus in 1975, an interdisciplinary team within the University conceived an autonomous unit that would become the country's premier institution for fisheries and marine science education and research. Its establishment was embodied in the Philippine Five-Year Development Plan of 1978-1982, which also provided that Region VI would be the new unit's site. On May 31, 1979, the Board of Regents (BOR), during its 114th meeting, approved the establishment of an autonomous University of the Philippines in the Visayas (UPV). Executive Order No. 628 issued by President Ferdinand Marcos on October 30, 1980, operationalized UPV, with its main campus in Miagao, and with the College of Fisheries as its flagship college. Originally, UPV consisted of only two colleges, the College of Fisheries (CF) and the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), formerly UP College Iloilo. It had five colleges and a school on four campuses Miagao, Iloilo City, Cebu City, and Tacloban City. The other colleges and schools are the College of Management (CM), formerly the School of Development Management (SDM), UP Cebu College, UP Tacloban College, and the School of Technology and Environmental Resources or STER (now, the School of Technology or SciTech). The Board of Regents established the Graduate School in 1984. It was phased out in 1991 and became the Graduate Program Coordinating Office (GPCO). It was renamed Graduate Program Office in 1995. Its primary function is to monitor and standardize the graduate program offerings of the colleges and schools of UPV. The main campus of UPV is in the 278-year-old municipality of Miagao, located about 41 kilometers from Iloilo City. It is built on a 1.294-hectare area of rolling hills and lush greenery with a spectacular view of the sea on one side of the campus and the distant mountains on the other. It covers 12 barangays and is one of the biggest in the country today. The development of the site and construction of facilities in the Miagao campus began in September 1981, which was made possible through the Sixth Educational Loan of the Philippine Government approved by the World Bank. The loan proceeds of about $17.63 million were used for site acquisition, construction of buildings, procurement of equipment, and the transfer of the CF personnel and properties from Diliman to Miagao. Today, a two-lane concrete road on the campus connects the vast expanse of fields, beaches, and forest hills with modern laboratory complexes, lecture, and audiovisual halls, administration offices, the library museum, infirmary, student dormitories, faculty and staff houses, and apartments, all providing a fascinating contrast to the rural setting. The transfer of CF to the Miagao campus in 1988 was spearheaded by Chancellor Rogelio Juliano and Dean Efren Ed C. Flores. In June 1990, Chancellor Francisco Nemenzo implemented the CAS Division of Humanities and Division of Social Sciences transfer. The School of Technology followed soon after. The existing CF library collection was transferred to the Library Museum and enriched with titles in the Liberal Arts. In May 1993, the transfer of the Division of Physical Sciences and Mathematics and the Division of Biological Sciences, along with the Office of the Dean, completed the transfer of the College of Arts and Sciences. Two degree-granting units remain in the Iloilo City Campus. They are the College of Management and College of Arts and Sciences' Division of Professional Education, which maintains the UP High School in Iloilo. The UPHSI is an experimental laboratory for innovative teaching strategies designed to provide academic training for underprivileged students to better prepare them for access to tertiary education at the University of the Philippines. With the creation of UPV, the regional campuses of UP Cebu College and UP Tacloban College were integrated into the UPV administration in 1986 and were renamed UPV Cebu College and UPV Tacloban College. On September 24, 2010, the Board of Regents of the University of the Philippines declared the University of the Philippines Cebu College as an autonomous unit under the Office of the President of the University effective January 2011. The said elevation will allow the unit greater freedom in pursuing the directions set and patterned on the needs of Cebuanos and the students from its immediate vicinities.
      5. The University of the Visayas (U.V.) is an educational institution located in Cebu City, Philippines. It is billed as the first school in the entire province of Cebu, who gained university status. The University of the Visayas is an eight-campus, province-wide system of higher education and lower-level laboratory schools. University of the Visayas Main Campus along Colon Street, Cebu City. Colon Street is known to be the oldest street in the country. There are two campuses in Cebu City: the main campus occupying almost one city block bounded by Colon, D. Jakosalem and Sanciangko Streets, and a laboratory high school in Pardo. The main campus has six multi-story buildings, including a gymnasium. The University of the Visayas (U.V.) builds and embraces a sustainable research culture while harnessing its stakeholders' talents and potentials and promoting cultural, environmental, spiritual, and societal responsibility. With this commitment, the University capacitates students, faculty, and staff with research skills. The University of the Visayas is open to students who meet its academic standards and who are personally qualified to acquire formal education, has the personal aptitude to carry on directed school work as expected of them culturally, emotionally, mentally and professionally, socially adaptable, communicative proficiency in the English language and are willing to abide by the rules, values, and ideals of the institution. Returnees or returning students are students who have been discharged from the University of the Visayas either through graduation or by their own will or volition, or those who have discontinued their studies in the University for some reasons but do not have valid leaves of absence in-placed provided that they have not enrolled in any program in any other higher education institution after leaving the University of the Visayas. Continuing students are those previously enrolled in the University in the immediately preceding semester or has valid leaves of absence for the period during which they have discontinued their studies and are enrolled in the same course. At the time of his enrollment, a continuing student must have a copy of his/her grades for all the subjects of the previous semester and submit this to the enrollment in-charge for evaluation. The late Don Vicente A. Gullas founded the University of the Visayas in 1919 as the Visayan Institute (V.I.) in Cebu City. The second World War razed to the ground the physical facilities of the V.I. at its original site. Undaunted by adversities, Don Vicente reopened classes in Argao, Cebu, in 1946. A year later, the V.I. moved back to its present site in Colon Street, Cebu City. As early as its founding, the V.I. had pioneered education innovations to provide equal education opportunities for those who have the capability and the desire to improve themselves. It was the first to conduct night school classes for working students in Cebu City in the 1940s. The "study now pay later plan" had been a practice at the V.I. long before it was adopted by the Department of Education, Culture, and Sports (DECS) in the 1980s.In 1948, the Visayan Institute was awarded university status, the first to become a university in Cebu, and was renamed the Visayas University. Since then, the expansion in its baccalaureate and post graduate course offerings and its physical facilities has been phenomenal. From an initial enrollment of 37 students, the V.I. evolved into a university with an enrollment of 20,000 distributed throughout its campuses. Its alumni have distinguished themselves in government service and public administration, and in the professions of law, engineering and architecture, pharmacy, medicine, nursing, education, criminology, maritime and nautical, computer studies, and sports the arts. The seal is the official symbol of the University. As described in the University Articles of Incorporation, the seal is a circular shield inside which is inscribed the philosophy of the University of the Visayas: Amor, Servitum Humanitas (Love and Service to Humanity) and the year 1919, the year of its founding. At the center of the seal is the shrine of the Magellan's cross, typifying the Cristian ideals that inspired the founding of the University, against a background symbolic of Philippine communities to portray the leadership development areas the University had envisioned to serve at the time of its founding. An open book and the torch of knowledge represent the ideals of academic excellence that the University aims to achieve. Bordering the circular shield are two circular lines in between, which is the name, University of the Visayas and Cebu City, it is the central location. The equal distance between the two circular lines signifies the equality of educational opportunities for all with proven competence regardless of socio-economic status, race, or creed and the University's non-discriminatory policy, insofar as faculty and students are concerned. The outer circle is bordered by the University colors of green and white in continuous series of rounded projections of green, alternating with white.

The search for truth, the very essence of the academic institution, is the scientific process's backbone where the certainty of results is tested against all known facts. The University is an institution that stands by the truth, reasons under facts, and manifests sincerity in utterances, action, and character. Excellence.A value that centers on the imminent goodness of the quality of services, systems, and outputs of the University. An institution that consistently lives by excellent standards in anything that it does effectively search for truth and delivery of socially-relevant, scientific, and technological contributions. The university stakeholders that include its students, producers, and industries deserve nothing but the best that the institution can offer. On June 2, 1924, as the Baybay Agricultural School (BAS)through a Provincial Board Resolution. In 1934, it was renamed Baybay Agricultural High School (BAHS) and was later converted into the Baybay National Agricultural School (BNAS) with Commonwealth Act No. 313 in 1938.BNAS was converted into the Visayas Agricultural College (VAC) under Republic Act (RA) No. 2831 issued on June 19, 1960. The institution attained rapid growth and development following its conversion into Visayas State College of Agriculture (SCA) on May 24, 1974, through Presidential Decree (PD) No. 470 and amended by PD No. 700 on May 12, 1975. In 1999, four higher education institutions in the province of Leyte were integrated into the College to create a five-campus ViSCA system. Visca became Leyte State University (LSU) through RA No. 9158, issued on August 11, 2001. LSU became Visayas State University (VSU) on April 27, 2007, by RA No. 9437. VSU's mandate is the Visayas. The establishment of VSU realized the thrust of the Philippine government to develop three Zonal Agricultural Universities (ZAU's) – to serve significant regions of the country: for the Visayas, Visayas State University (VSU) for Mindanao, the Central Mindanao University (CMU) and for Luzon, the Central Luzon State University (CLSU).
      7. The coming into being of the West Visayas State University (WVSU) dates back to 1924 when it became an independent and distinct teacher training institution known as the Iloilo Normal School (INS). However, its birth can be traced back as early as 1902 when it was opened as a regular tributary school with secondary school instruction. The University Research and Development Center (URDC) is committed to developing highly competent researchers who will produce relevant quality research outputs and transfer generated knowledge and technology that will improve the quality of life. Researches are monitored through the University Research In-House Reviews, which is done twice a year by a Technical Panel. Moreover, quarterly progress reports are submitted by researchers. Through the regular monitoring activities and meetings with research coordinators, issues and concerns are addressed to promote the smooth and timely research implementation. In line with the West Visayas State College's commitment to the advancement of knowledge at the tertiary and post-graduate levels, the College Research Center was established in 1981 to conduct and coordinate research and evaluate field services, which will lead to significant educational programs. These researches included pilot try-out projects in various schools and communities within the region. In 1916, it was a secondary school complete with elementary and training departments. However, it was only in 1924, with the completion of its main building (now Quezon Hall) and the laboratory school building when INS became a distinct educational institution itself. The year likewise became a kick-off point for a more established secondary regular school program, which eventually became a two-year collegiate training program and still later in 1952 a four-year ordinary college course. In 1954, through RepublicActNo. 375, the Bachelor of Science in Education major in Elementary Education was granted. It became a pioneer and premier teacher-training institution in Western Visayas, a prestige it enjoys with academic programs catering to local and global needs. Truth to this is it is being named Center of Excellence (1994) by the late Sen. Blas P. Ople and Center of Excellence for Teacher Education (1995) by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). The INS became the West Visayas State College by R.A. 4189 in 1965 and commenced the offering of the Bachelor of Science in Education for Elementary and Secondary teaching. Bachelor of Arts and Masters in Education. It was in the same year when the Graduate School and the School of Arts and Sciences were in place. The Secondary Laboratory School was opened in 1969. In September 1972, RA 6596 authorized university-level courses in education, arts, and sciences. The period from 1974, it is Golden Jubilee year, to the early 1980s was one of significant growth, witnessing the establishment of the School of Medicine (1 975), School of' Agriculture (1976), and School of Nursing (1977). The doctoral program of the Graduate School was likewise introduced in 1977. The B.S. Biological Science, AS Mass Communications, and B. S. Forestry programs took off in 1981. On January 27, 1986, P.D. 2019 converted the College into the West Visayas State University, integrating the Iloilo National College of Agriculture (INCA) into its system. In 1987, the University acquired the Don Benito V. Lopez Memorial Hospital, which became the WVSU Hospital, a 150-bed tertiary, teaching, and training hospital. The University was further established in 1993, the Physical Education, Sports, Culture, and Recreation Center, which later became the degree-granting PESCARA Institute and later College of PESCARA in 2000. Strict observance of the trilogy of functions became evident in the University as early as 1986 when the Office of Research and Non-Formal Education was established, followed by the Office of Extension in 1988. In 1993, the Department of Mass Communications became the degree-granting Institute of Mass Communications, which was later converted into a College in 2000. The Diamond Jubilee in 1999 was ushered in by the offering of more academic programs: the Bachelor in Cooperatives Management (1997) and the Bachelor of Science in Information Management and Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (1998). In 2000, the Higher Education Modernization Act (1997) integrated into the University four CHED supervised schools in Calinog, Janiuay, Lambunao, and Pototan. In 2001, the WVSU Board of Regents and the Department of Health (DOH) approved the hospital's conversion to the 300-bed WVSU Medical Center that it is today. Likewise, in 2001, the Bachelor in Statistics and Research program was introduced. The University Distance Education program through the Diploma in Teaching (DFT) course began in Summer 2003. By the first semester of 2003, four new courses were commenced: Bachelor/n Hotel and Restaurant Management, Bachelor in Broadcasting, Bachelor in Journalism, and Bachelor of Science in Development Communication. In 2004, the University instituted its Verticalization Scheme in academic programs through the operations of the graduate schools in the College of Education and the College of Arts & Sciences.
      8. View full university

      13. View full university
