      About Me

      1. “Choosing the road of Education is a difficult one but also a wonderful one. “While engaged in our scholastic pursuit towards excellence in all academic areas we recognize all the moral values in building Humanity and engage ourselves to act upon issues threatening our Human Family and hence our Earth Home.” All students at Kuwait National English School are members of an international community. They get to know each other and learn to respect each other. We aim to build their personalities, to broaden their minds, to increase their knowledge in all academic subjects, to prepare them, while they develop their knowledge, to be ready to tackle different issues: human, social, cultural and scientific, and environmental. In other words, we prepare our students to be fully responsible, develop intercultural understanding, and be internationally minded. We aim to develop their intellectual and cognitive skills as well as physical, social, and artistic skills but, we aim also to prepare our students to be fully responsible citizens, conscious not only of their rights but also of their duties as being part of the “Human Family” and to take care of our “Earth Home”. We aim to build a community, gathering people from different cultural backgrounds in which everyone recognizes our common humanity and destiny. Our students learn and understand that we are living in a fragile limited, interdependent world and which is in constant evolution. Students, who come to KNES, often go somewhere else to continue, their studies according to the activities of their parents. We have to take this factor into account for their further adaptation to be easier. In brief, we consider the following points as part of our mandate. To develop the respect of the fundamental values such as truth, trust, integrity, justice, respect for others, and respect for their well-being. To develop in each student verbal and written skills. Within the limits of the syllabus and the resources of the school, we try to develop the student’s intellectual, physical, and social abilities. To promote in each student a spirit of inquiry, analysis, and a sense of criticism so that, within the conflicting ideologies of our modern world and the plethora of information, they succeed in making up their own opinion. To try to give enthusiasm to students to study and to let them learn by themselves (to learn how to learn). To train students in experimental methods and observation: to look for information (facts), to investigate, and to explain. To make sure that body and mind are one, (a healthy mind works only with a healthy body). To make sure each student is aware of the fragility of our environment and practice responsible conservation. To instill in each student a sense of loyalty to his/her peers and the school. To educate students on the importance of social contribution, to prepare them to be useful members of the Global Community. In all activities, to encourage respect for the diversity of cultures within the school and the world in general, in a word to promote the spirit of tolerance and to promote the necessary spirit for co-operation in general, and peace. Kuwait National English School is a private co-educational non-profit making organization, offering classes from Charlotte Pre-School, KG up to the entrance to university with IGCSE, GCSE, GCE, and IAS, and IAL. Kuwait National English School follows the New National Curriculum from the UK and is an approved Centre of Examination since 1996 from the UK. The Early Years Department with its extension of Charlotte Preschool named after the late Patron of the Department has a lovely garden and a separate entrance and a covered separate safe playground. The school campus itself has also three large playgrounds with covered areas, a large theatre and a canteen for pupils and staff called Gourmet Corner, and a well-resourced Media Centre. We are proud of the comments made by all the Accreditation and Inspection Teams on the performance of the school and the efforts made on continuous improvements towards excellence. View full school

      4. BSK is proud of its reputation for academic, sporting, and creative excellence. BSK is also proud of its reputation for offering the widest range of extracurricular activities of any school in the region. Most of all, BSK is proud of the achievements of its students that provide the evidence for the claim to be Kuwait’s, Premier School. The British School of Kuwait (BSK) traces its origins to 1978 when a small kindergarten became known as The Sunshine School. Steady growth took place through the 1980s and, having recovered from the ravages of the 1990 invasion of Kuwait, by 1992 the school accommodated 550 Kindergarten and Primary age students. The decision having been made to serve the community at both Primary and Secondary levels, a move to the present site in Salwa took place, and in September 1993, newly renamed, The British School of Kuwait opened to 900 students. Currently, there are over 3200 students from Reception to Year 13 at BSK. They come from more than 70 countries and follow the National Curriculum of England through to GCSE, IGCSE, AS, and A-Level qualifications. The school provides a structured, caring, and happy environment for learning with excellent resourcing and a qualified, highly-trained, and well-motivated staff. The crest of The British School of Kuwait incorporates several aspects of the school’s history. The bold sunrise symbolizes our students’ potential, setting out on their lives of achievement. The sun also reminds us of the original Sunshine School and its climb to success. The sun is seen rising over blue water with its strong reference to Kuwait where the sun breaks daily over the Gulf on the eastern horizon. Finally, the crest is adorned with branches of laurel, a traditional accolade, in this setting celebrating academic and cultural achievement. The British School of Kuwait aims to offer its students a rigorous and rounded education that is relevant to the demands of modern life. Striving for excellence in all areas of school life is the cornerstone of our educational philosophy. Evidence for academic excellence is found by comparing the attainment levels of our students with their peers in any other international or British school. Further evidence is found in the outstanding public examination results and in the list of world-famous universities to which our students gain admission. Evidence for sporting excellence is found in the many, recently awarded, trophies and cups adorning our display cabinets. In recent years, BSK has dominated the finals in competitions organized by KFSAC and ISACK and our participation extends beyond the borders of Kuwait. Our philosophy extends to the provision of excellent extracurricular opportunities for our students. BSK offers the widest range of extracurricular opportunities of any school. From the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award with expeditions to Jordan (bronze), Cyprus (silver), and Sri Lanka (gold) to Crest Award from world-class debating to Model United Nations from LAMDA to ABRSM courses from computing to astronomy from skiing to martial arts from the Spanish Club to the Sports Leaders program… the opportunities seem endless and provide evidence of our commitment to roundedness in the education of our students. Social awareness through links with the international community is deeply embedded within the ethos of BSK. We benefit hugely from the cultures and experiences of upwards of 70 different nationalities of students. Through the links with the Goethe-Institut in Germany, the British Council, the service work of the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award program, and the philanthropic efforts of the Sixth Form Charities Committee and the House charity initiative, the evidence for excellence in personal and social education are clear. Not all students and their families are ready to take advantage of the education on offer at BSK. We have a strict admissions policy that ensures our students are academically capable, highly motivated, and well-behaved. However, for our students, the environment for learning is designed to meet our aim of rigorous, rounded, and relevant education. View full school

We fully understand that taking risks and being supported along the way leads to meeting one’s potential. Our program offers many academic options, leading students to be career-focused early in their educational journey. Numerous experiences in athletics and activities provide further opportunities for learning and support student mental fitness. We regularly celebrate high achievement, making progress, finding a solution, and the game-winning goal. Every member of our 300+ staff provides opportunities for our students to be engaged in their learning and is supported in doing so. We acknowledge that we must collaborate to ensure achievement and personal development. 6. Welcome To Cascade British Nursery School in Kuwait, Where every child who walks through the door is Special. Cascade was opened by Jacqueline, a qualified British-trained primary school teacher. She has many years of teaching experience in both mainstream and special education and has taught in Scotland, Sharjah, and Kuwait. She and her excellent team of staff have worked hard to create a genuine home-from-home environment where activities are planned around each child's interests and abilities. Children learn through play and are encouraged to achieve their potential. Cascade is a British Nursery School for children of 1 - 4½ years of age. Each child is unique and special. From the age of three months to the pre-school year, every girl and boy goes through an astonishing period of development. These few years are crucial for your child’s future as he or she moves into more formal schooling and then adult life beyond. At Cascade, we aim to provide a safe, secure and caring environment for all our children. We strive to nurture your child in bright, happy, stimulating, and educationally structured surroundings. Our experienced team of Western staff realizes how important it is for your child to settle quickly and happily into our Nursery. They are experts in identifying the specific needs of your child as he or she progresses through these pre-school years. We have implemented the Early Years Foundation Stage through structured play, it is based on four principles, which are: A Unique Child – Every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident, and self-assured. Enabling Environments – The environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children’s development and learning. Learning and Development – Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates and all areas of Learning and Development are equally important and inter-connected. The Curriculum covers six areas of learning are personal, social, and emotional development, creative development, physical development, communication, language and literacy, knowledge and understanding of the world, problem-solving reasoning, and numeracy. These areas are equally important and depend on each other. They are delivered through a balance of adult-led and child-initiated activities. At all times the staff encourages a positive attitude in every child. Our holistic approach means that girls and boys participate in all Nursery activities, thus ensuring equal opportunities for everyone. With this in mind, we are very fortunate to have a large, safe, grassed garden for the exclusive use of our Nursery children. This extends our opportunities for outdoor play and physical development. At EPG, the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is a play-based adapted curriculum for children from 9 months to 5.5 years. This allows children to explore and learn in an environment that is secure and safe, yet challenging. We understand that this period in a child's life is an important developmental stage when they discover themselves and the world around them. Leadership and teaching teams in branches are dedicated and passionate professionals who embody all the values we teach children. Our Primary Schools are creative, dynamic places of learning where children aged 5 to 11 can hone the skills that they will need to be equipped for a lifetime of learning. EPG has been an accredited member of the Council of British International Schools (COBIS) since 2016. Due to the expansion of our Primary School in Salwa to include year 5 classes next year, we have decided to establish separate boys and girls sections from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2 next year. This means that boys and girls from years 1 to 5 will be taught in separate classes. We believe that this change will directly benefit the education of both boys and girls in school. At The English Playgroup, you will find a stimulating and successful program of learning, playing, and care, taught by the very best trained English specialist teachers. Within the schools, there is a strong belief in children receiving a challenging and inspirational education and in developing their talents and personalities in preparation for their future education. Our bilingual program teaches fluency in English and Arabic through a well-structured, thematic approach to learning. At our schools, we use the English National Curriculum to deliver the best of Early Years and Primary Education. Over the years, we have developed our books and curriculum resources that match our student’s abilities and help them progress solidly through the Foundation, KS 1, and KS 2 levels. 11. CBS started in September 2007 with about 100 students. Our school includes JK through Grade 12. Over time, we have achieved steady and consistent growth in the number of students enrolled, improved quality of infrastructure and academic programs and steadily brought in more technology. We have also set up enhanced management systems and improved policies and processes. At CBS, we provide an environment where children can develop their innate skills and discover more about themselves. Through the experience that we have gained over the years, we have formulated and developed a rigorous academic structure and programs to ensure the overall growth of our students. Along with academics, we also promote a safe, inspiring, and supportive environment for our students. We always encourage active participation from parents, teachers, and community members. The curriculum at CBS is the driving force behind all the initiatives and teaching strategies of its faculty. Students require consistent challenging programs that will capture their interest and stimulate creative thinking and problem-solving abilities. They must also be able to build independent capabilities as well as a team spirit to be prepared for a lifetime of learning. Our students, in the process of learning, acquire knowledge and the skills required to excel when they enter the work environment. CBS follows a modified Ontario (Canada) curriculum. This adds enriching concepts to all subjects. To ensure that the best programming is provided to the children, resources have been employed from other sources too. We have facilities on our campus which include a multipurpose hall for school functions and sports activities, large kindergarten play areas, a comprehensive school library, efficient and updated science and computer labs, and 2 soccer fields. At CBS we promote a respectful, safe and supportive environment, encouraging high expectations and academic success. Knowledge and skills are two things that are important in any global community. Through proper implementation of the curriculum, we intend to impart these qualities to our students, so that they can compete, excel and lead lives with integrity and satisfaction. We wish for our students to be successful both as individuals and in a larger sense as meaningful contributors to society. View full school

      13. British-based education offers its students a strong academic grounding but also provides a broad extra-curricular program. The aim is to develop abilities and personalities to enable the graduates of the school to be able to enter and compete in the best universities in the world and, for half a century, this is what the school has achieved. What makes this school special is that its alumni, whatever their abilities, have a special ‘stamp’ that distinguishes them and is recognizable many years later, both in the workplace and in life in general. This stamp is achieved through academic excellence, extra-curricular opportunity, and involvement, as well as the distinctive family atmosphere that has been maintained in the school from the very beginning. The New English School, (N.E.S.) was founded by the late chairman, Mr. Tareq S. Rajab, and was the first private, coeducational day school in Kuwait to offer a British-style curriculum from Kindergarten to A level. The chairman comes from a family with a history of pioneering in education and he established the school at a time of change in Kuwait in which he foresaw the need for education with English as the medium of teaching. The first classes of NES opened in a villa in Shamiyah, actually starting at the Secondary level and very soon after extending backward to Kindergarten. It was soon apparent that this educational venture was outgrowing the original premises, so a purpose-built campus was opened in 1974, and to date, improvements and extensions continue to maintain an environment that allows students to thrive. The school serves both the local and international communities, with children from over 70 nationalities and close ties are maintained with the U.K. and with other overseas British and International schools. The New English School has an enviable academic record and is outstanding in the region. The school achieves its mission through a combination of academic and extra-curricular activities. Thus, along with a broad range of academic subjects, the extra-curricular activities program spans diverse areas – drama, music, sports, the arts, crafts, technology as well as formalized programs such as the Model United Nations (M.U.N.), the International Debating Club and the Duke of Edinburgh Award (International Award), the first school in Kuwait to offer this. 14. We believe that all individuals can improve and learn. All people develop at different rates and have expertise in a wide range of subject areas with unique learning styles. Our program focuses professional attention on each student and challenges them to achieve their maximum potential. The whole child is our focus and learning and academic achievement form a significant part of the development of a loving, compassionate, healthy, and thoughtful world citizen. Assessment of this learning takes a variety of forms. Formative assessment through daily learning work, class participation and discussion, classroom learning activities, and peer interactions occupy a significant part of creating a child’s learning profile. Summative assessment is made in the form of tests, quizzes, projects, presentations, and exams. It helps in determining specific content knowledge, concept mastery, and ability to apply knowledge. Throughout the curriculum, we focus on the ability to communicate understandings, apply knowledge to novel situations, and solve problems. All children develop at their pace-a a pace we accelerate for all students when they are ready. We don’t believe single sittings of examinations should judge the future of children. Our rigorous approach to learning ensures that we view children and learning as works in progress rather than “snapshots” of a singular endeavor. We are unique in this adventure of learning. This school is committed to continuous improvement. We hire only the most qualified of teachers and seek students and families to join our community who are committed to the development of the whole child. Our school to a large extent accomplishes this with a larger perspective of education. Our philosophy is of reducing pressure and retaining a student’s hopes and self-esteem, without which education loses its purpose. At our school, students are not competing with each other but with themselves by constantly raising their expectations and successfully achieving those targets. This makes them not only highly “individual driven” but also sensitive to other’s failures, a very important factor that shapes them into fine human beings. Our school nurtures the tangible and intangible strengths of each student, carefully preparing them to face the challenges of a competitive world. We trigger their curiosity and encourage them to step into unfamiliar grounds without fear. This gives a student an edge over their peers, as they are taught not to fear failure and that failure is an important step towards achievement. We make learning an enjoyable experience that can never be forgotten but provides points of reference in one’s future. The mission of Learners Own Academy is to develop each child to his or her fullest potential, spiritually, intellectually, and physically, that each may grow in grace, enjoy freedom through knowledge, and lead a healthy, productive and meaningful life. To integrate academic excellence, community spirit, and healthy lifestyle to create an environment that inspires a child to learn to his/her ability. To make Learners Own Academy a community of people which includes the students, parents, faculty, and staff, who have a great love for God, love for neighbor, and a love for learning. To express warmth, empathy and concern, and respect for life. To lead children to knowledge and experience the love for learning. Active participation in class and activities of the school. Our multipurpose indoor sports complex is almost ready with a football ground, two basketball grounds, eight badminton courts, two Tennis courts, two volleyball courts, three-lane tracks, and plenty of swings in the play area for our Tiny Tots. The formal inaugural ceremony of the sports complex will take place in November. View full school

      17. A Don Bosco institution is a dynamic and co-educational school serving the needs of students since 2002. One enjoys a friendly, caring, and safe environment where everyone is made welcome. The school was founded by the Salesians of Don Bosco, dedicated to the education of youth. The Salesian’s daily presence in school life enriches the overall development of each student. We consider each child to be a special member of our school community, each of them has something to offer whether it be a friendly smile, sporting abilities, or academic abilities. We value each child for their individual qualities. Every child is proud to proclaim. We now know that we are vulnerable. We now know that the threats of terror are no longer half a world away. We now know things change and not always for the better. We now know that evil exists. So the question is, how can we live triumphantly in a terror-stricken world? And amid all the chaos, we must find a way to stand and to carry on. All of us have problems. But one way or another we learn to overcome the darkness and get along with life. The darkness surrounding us now seems so much more. Men blowing themselves up in a concert hall or going on a rampage shooting people down irrespective of their color, race, or religion. That is darkness of a different dimension. We do not live on a playground. We live on a battlefield. We are soldiers in a great cosmic war between good and evil. The question asked is what shall we do? How will we go on? How do we live triumphantly in this new reality that has come among us? We need to rebuild our faith in God. And hope for the best. Because hope is to the soul what oxygen is to the body-absolutely essential for survival. People of hope, those who believe in God’s tomorrow, can live better today. Those who expect joy to come out of sadness, strength to come from weakness, new life to arise out of the ashes of the old, are the people who discover God to be a present help in times of trouble. ‘We are born for greater things’ and hence our role in this world must go far beyond us simply taking care of ourselves. We cannot live by hate we need to fill our lives with love. Loving people are healthier people, happier people, and more helpful people than those who allow themselves to sink into the deep pits of rage, revenge, and hate. View full school

      19. MSK was founded to support students with Learning Difficulties (Pre K – 12) to expand their intellectual, social-emotional, and physical potentials, thereby providing them with the necessary skills to be successful at higher levels of education and in life. Our international staff of Special Educators has many years of experience and stays up-to-date with the new educational trends. Our staff is dedicated to providing our students with the most thorough and relevant academic and social services to meet students’ needs. The mission of Manarat School-Kuwait (MSK) is to provide a challenging education that empowers students with Learning Difficulties (LD) to become independent learners who are critical thinkers and responsible global citizens. The dream, the vision, of schools for students with special needs was because of a very special girl – Muneera. Muneera, one of the daughters of the owners was a special needs child. The dream began with the founding of the Ideal Education School in 1996. Students at Ideal are significantly mentally and in many cases physically challenged. The owners soon realized that there was another segment of the special needs population that needed a safe learning environment designed to meet their needs. These students who are learning disabled and are slow learners may also have ADHD and/or be physically challenged. In September 2007, Manarat School-Kuwait (MSK) opened its doors. Since then the school has been defining the population it can serve and has received authorization from the Ministry to offer two academic programs through to Grade 12. Muneera has since passed away, but the dream in her memory lives on. MSK was chartered by the Ministry of Education-Kuwait to serve the educational needs of children with learning difficulties and special needs, ages 3 – 21. The school is situated behind the American University of Kuwait in Salmiya which is on Salem Al-Mubarak Street. MSK is a widely recognized school in Kuwait because of the unique opportunities it provides for all children respecting their individual and special needs, cultural backgrounds, and the aspirations of their parents. There is a rich array of skills and experience among teaching, support, and administrative staff. On-going professional and school development are considered vital in maintaining the school’s learning culture. MSK is well resourced. In addition to teachers, administration, and a large number of support staff, the school has a wealth of materials and equipment to facilitate and enrich student learning. Computers and Information Communication Technology are increasingly integral parts of the teaching process. MSK is developed for students with learning potential, who are experiencing challenges that are interfering with their ability to be academically successful. MSK was created to help these students more fully develop their intellectual, social-emotional, and physical potential, thereby providing them with the necessary skills to be successful at higher levels of education and in life. Students at MSK learn through their strengths rather than by emphasizing their weaknesses. They are taught learning skills and techniques that work for them. They have the opportunity to develop skills and talents that will assist them in understanding their strengths and weaknesses. The students learn compensatory skills that aid them in developing strategies to overcome their weaknesses. MSK students receive services based on their Individual Education Plan (IEP). This document is created by the MSK specialists and is reviewed regularly. It is based on the body of evaluations conducted thus far, outlining the current skill levels, defining measurable objectives, and providing a baseline for improvements. Student progress is reviewed regularly. MSK has a specifically defined mission. We recognize that we cannot provide programs for all students. On occasion, we find that a student who has been accepted is not benefiting from the program. When this happens, the parents are advised and all efforts are made to assist in finding a more appropriate learning environment. View full school

      23. The American School of Kuwait (ASK) has been established for fifty-two years. ASK’s story tells a rich history of perseverance, strong leadership, and dedication from all members of the organization, past, and present, towards the goal of giving our students the highest standards of American education in Kuwait. The American School of Kuwait welcomed its first group of students in 1964. Beginning in 1963, a group of American parents selected a Board of Trustees to establish an international school patterned authentically after the American school model. In September 1964, the American School of Kuwait began its first official term under the name of the "International School of Kuwait" in a large villa in the Dasman Area of Sharq. A full program for grades kindergarten through twelfth grade was provided for seventy-five students. These initial students came from several different countries. In 1969, the school moved to a new location in Surra. These improved facilities offered in the Surra campus led to a significant increase in student enrollment. It was at that time that the school changed its name to the "American School of Kuwait" to better reflect its mission and educational philosophy. Subsequently, the high school received its initial U.S. Accreditation from The Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools in 1971. At the American School of Kuwait, we inspire life-long learners empowered to excel in American Higher Education and the global community as productive, compassionate citizens. The American School of Kuwait is privately owned, operates with the approval of the State of Kuwait, and is associated with the U.S. State Department through the Office of Overseas Schools. The American School of Kuwait inspires life-long learners empowered to excel in American Higher Education and the global community as productive, compassionate citizens. 24. Kuwait Bilingual School (KBS) was established in 1998 as the first bilingual school in al jahra city in Kuwait and is still today the only institution of its kind in that city. KBS is a non-profit bilingual educational institution, which currently has a school population of students from kg1 to grade 12. The policy allows for 25 students per class. Kuwait Bilingual School became an authorized IB World School in June 2013 offering the Primary Years Programme (PYP). IB World Schools share a common philosophy—a commitment to high-quality, challenging, international education—that we believe is important for our students. Kuwait Bilingual School has been officially accepted as a candidate school for the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB-MYP). This means that KBS is pursuing authorization as an IB-MYP world school. These are the schools that share a common philosophy, a commitment to high-quality, challenging, international education that KBS believes is important for our students. Students in the 21st century are faced with the challenge of learning about an interconnected world where knowledge is constantly developing. The International Baccalaureate® (IB) Primary Years Programme prepares students to be active participants in a lifelong journey of learning. The IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), for students aged 3 to 12, focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside. At the heart of the program's philosophy is a commitment to the structured, purposeful inquiry as to the leading vehicle for learning. These themes are about issues that have meaning for and are important too, all of us. The program offers a balance between learning about or through the subject areas and learning beyond them. The six themes of global significance create a transdisciplinary framework that allows students to "step up" beyond the confines of learning within subject areas. The six transdisciplinary themes help teachers to develop a program of inquiries–in-depth investigations into important ideas, identified by the teachers, and requiring a high level of involvement on the part of the students. These inquiries are substantial, in-depth, and usually last for several weeks. Assessment is an important part of each unit of inquiry as it both enhances learning and provides opportunities for students to reflect on what they know, understand, and can do. The teacher's feedback to the students provides the guidance, the tools, and the incentive for them to become more competent, more skillful, and better at understanding how to learn. Currently, at KBS we are working on improving the guidance curriculum that consists of structured developmental lessons. We hope that the school's counseling curriculum provides students with a better understanding of the scope and sequence related to counseling topics. The guidance counselor visits classes and works with the teacher to either provide instruction, the team teaches, or assist in teaching counseling-related topics connected to the class's unit of inquiry. The IB goal is to provide students with the values and opportunities that will enable them to develop sound judgments, make wise choices and respect others in the global community. The International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) is a purpose-built five-year program (Grades 6-10, ages 11-16) for international schools and is now being taught and implemented worldwide, with considerable growth in Europe, Asia, and the Americas. The IB MYP is geared to meet the needs of IB World Schools, as well as other school systems. It builds upon skills and units of inquiry learning developed in the IB Primary Years Programme (IB PYP). IB PYP teaching and learning “focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside” (IB). The IB MYP also relies on connecting classroom pedagogical practices and content to the world outside through the Global Contexts and the Learner Profile. The IB MYP is followed by the IB Diploma Programme which is internationally-recognized, university-entrance qualification for students studying outside of their home country. Is the person trained and qualified to help students solve problems and facilitate their understanding themselves as well as understanding their strengths and weaknesses until the child can reach the maximum degree of growth allowed by their abilities in all aspects ( psychological - social - academic and family ). The students are still in childhood stages and therefore have developmental characteristics that differ from the rest of the individuals. The counseling of children during the basic stage is responsible for helping the child to achieve healthy growth and integrated compatibility. The educational counselor acts as a bridge between the student, the teacher, and the family this comes only through good relations with the three parties. View full school
      25. The English School, which is the only not-for-profit school in Kuwait, has served the English-speaking community here for 60 years and celebrated its Diamond Jubilee in style in February 2013. Closely following the Foundation Stage and National Curriculum for England, pupils are taught by well-qualified and experienced staff who recognize that all children are unique. Pupils are stretched and enriched by a curriculum that is broad, challenging and varied, and caters to the individual needs of each child. Pupils are also encouraged to develop their social and personal skills, with a strong emphasis on good manners and respect for one another. We constantly strive to improve the quality of education that we provide and respond quickly to initiatives and changes in the UK ensuring that our children do get the very best education possible. At the end of their time with us, pupils move on to excellent schools in Kuwait, the UK, and around the world. We are very proud to say that TES pupils are known for being hard workers, high achievers, and well-balanced and ambitious boys and girls ready to make the most of their abilities. The English School provides the best possible British education, primarily for the children of UK expatriates in Kuwait, from the ages of 2½ to 13 plus, to allow those children to make a seamless transition whether to UK State Maintained or Independent schools, schools in Kuwait or elsewhere in the world. With the school’s core values at the heart of all we do, we aim for each child to develop their: Confidence to be comfortable with who you are and with what you think and say. Empathy to understand and appreciate how other people feel and think. Integrity to do what is right in all situations, even when it is difficult to do so. Positivity to be cheerful, optimistic, and to work hard in all that you do. Respect - to treat yourself, all people, and all things in a way that shows you care. The English School follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and the National Curriculum for England (2014). Additionally, we are obliged to teach Arabic for Arabs and Islamic Studies for Arabs from Year 1 upwards, and Arabic for non-Arabs from Year 3 upwards. Kuwait Social Studies is also an additional requirement of the Kuwaiti Ministry for Education and this is taught from Year 5 upwards. Teaching at The English School is not rigidly based on age-related learning objectives, but is based around the abilities of each child. Teachers plan and implement differentiated lessons that allow the more able to be stretched and the less able to be supported with work of an appropriate level this enables all students to achieve success through appropriately leveled challenges. At The English School, we are very lucky to be able to offer subject specialist teachers throughout the school. Even our youngest children in the Foundation Stage are taught by specialist PE, ICT, and music teachers. In Key Stage 1 they continue with these specialist lessons and our Arabic students also attend lessons taught by our Arabic and Islamic teachers. In Year 3 upwards, all children attend further specialist lessons for art and DT. French is an additional specialist taught a subject that is offered from Year 4 upwards. In Year 5 students also benefit from specialist teaching in science, and in Year 6 to Year 8 all lessons are taught by subject specialists. The school has an open-door policy, so should you have any concerns about your child and their progress, you are welcome to make an appointment, in the first instance, to discuss this directly with the class teacher/tutor or the relevant subject specialist teacher. If the issue remains unresolved, an appointment should be made to discuss this further with the relevant Pastoral Coordinator or the Director of Studies should the issue continue. At the start of each academic year, parents are invited to attend year group Curriculum Information Evenings. At these meetings, the teachers have the opportunity to explain to parents what they should expect over the coming year and how parents can assist in their child’s learning. Parents also have the opportunity to ask questions with regards to the curriculum and school procedures. Twice yearly, in Term 1 and 2, there are Parent Consultation Evenings, where you will have the opportunity to meet individually with the teacher for an update on your child’s progress. Twice yearly, at the end of Term 1 and 3, you will receive a formal report on your child’s progress, in the form of an electronic report that can be accessed and downloaded from the Parent Portal.
