With 25 years of existence, it started its activity in 1989 and has been able to draw on the accumulated experience, an image of quality in the area of Higher Education in Portugal. The public image of ISLA is, without doubt, one of credibility and trust. We have social and financial sustainability. We have each time more consistent training supply and quality, truly suited to the market needs, providing an expanding range of opportunities at all levels, based on a strong bond of cooperation with national and international businesses and higher education institutions. What we are now is based on a past full of contributions and creativity of those who have worked here and made ISLA Gaia grow. We are sure that we are on the right track for the full affirmation of ISLA, which is a time-consuming process that has to be undergone safely in a constant adaptation to the changes that are being imposed by the government and by the guidelines of the European Union. The adaptation to the Bologna Process is a clear example of this. Waiting anxiously for the cited date of 2025, the one that symbolized and is the institution's expectations milestone, ISLA-Gaia faces the complex reality of having to prepare itself for a more challenging external environment in the coming years. We can only be proud of the extraordinary progress that we have achieved in the relatively turbulent environment that Portuguese higher education has been experiencing over the last few years. Guiding us through this ambitious vision is the best way to ensure that our institution will be amongst the best, enhancing in all of us proud to belong to ISLA. In this sense, with the contribution of all and with great prospects for success, ISLA will continue its vision for 2025. In response to these challenges, ISLA Gaia adopted the ISLA-Gaia Plan 2025 - a Strategic Plan for its reconstruction and repositioning as a higher education institution of national prestige. - The creation of the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu, on 26th December 1979, through the Governmental Act-of-Law nº513-T/7, is framed by the broader philosophy which supported the successful implementation of polytechnic higher education in our country. The widening of higher education to the whole territory, in a logic of combating the concentration in the main coastal cities, and the innovation made possible by a closer contact between the training institutions and the surrounding community, seem to have been two of the factors that have driven forward the creation of polytechnic higher education in Portugal and, particularly, in the region of Viseu. From all general objectives of the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu, we should stress the cooperation with the surrounding community, on a reciprocal basis, aimed at promoting awareness of regional problems and the implementation of proper solutions. Furthermore, there are other objectives to be considered: technical, humanistic, and personal training of its students, to make them capable of contributing to the development of the Portuguese society development of research activities, having in mind the needs of the surrounding context and cultural exchange and cooperation with another state/private institutions, at the national and international levels. In the last two decades, the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu has grown continuously and it now includes 6 units: 5 higher schools - The School of Education, The School of Technology, The Agrarian School, The School of Technology and Management (in the city of Lamego), The Health School and The Welfare Services. Presently this institution has over 7000 students and 400 teachers. It currently offers higher training in many fields, such as teacher training, media studies, cultural studies, social service, sports, multimedia, engineering (in many areas), management, marketing, tourism, agrarian sciences, and nursing. The Polytechnic Institute of Viseu is a state higher education institution aimed at producing and disseminating knowledge, carrying out research activities, and training professionals, to promote sustainable development and quality of life in the region. This institution is guided by fundamental values such as multidimensional training, respect for rights, active participation of all, ethical commitment towards society, excellence, and autonomy. Constant efforts are being made to build an institution with national and international visibility, based on excellence at the levels of teaching, scientific and cultural production, and its contribution to effective regional and national development and also to equal opportunities. The international cooperation of the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu (PIV) is preserved in its statutes and promotes, directly or through its schools, the integration into networks, partnerships, and cooperation relations with foreign higher education institutions, international scientific organizations, and other institutions, in particular within the European Union, bilateral or multilateral agreements signed by the Portuguese Government. The PIV also promotes cooperation within the Portuguese-speaking countries for joint coordination activities. Actions and international cooperation programs must be compatible with the nature and purposes of the Institute and its schools and take into account its strategic development and broad lines of national policy, especially in what concerns education, science, culture, and international relations. For choosing partners it will be considered the academic offer, learning and training conditions, teaching and learning language, facilities, and viability for joint projects development, both in terms of teaching/training and research that may bring skills development benefits to students, teachers, and staff. This combination provides an ideal learning environment where students are free to develop self-esteem and confidence in their learning. This also allows each teacher to create individualized lesson plans for each student to allow each student to advance at their own pace. This keeps students enthusiastic, motivated, and eager to learn. The International Education Faculty believes that every student should have the opportunity to pursue higher education and works to ensure that every student achieves their educational goals. In our rigorously developing world, we must think globally. A careful analysis of many areas of study would reveal that there exist much interconnection and overlap. The beauty of knowing how to spot these similarities allows us to see the world in a different light, which in turn allows us to solve difficult problems and make tough decisions. Hence, we teach our students to see the patterns, connections, and similarities in everything they pursue. This results in a more complete and profound understanding of class topics and their application to the real world. To achieve this multifaceted goal, we designed programs that stem from the students' interests and integrate knowledge across the curriculum's different strands. The result is a carefully designed program where problem-solving, brilliancy, creativity, and academic excellence are fostered.

- IPSA is an engineering college offering a five-year graduate syllabus specializing in aeronautical and space systems. Students acquire broad knowledge in various scientific fields and a practical engineering approach. It positions the holder as able to address any issue related to air and space. Graduates will have developed broad general engineering knowledge as well as highly specialized skills in the fields of aeronautics and space. The IPSA training also allows graduates to work in other technically advanced fields similar to aerospace, such as automotive and maritime transport, where the techniques and technologies used are close to those in aeronautics. The training's objective is to ensure the acquisition of knowledge essential to high-level expertise and validate the knowledge necessary to exercise diverse responsibilities as they emerge in a career. Based on a balance between teaching and project work (related to typical industrial issues), the IPSA curriculum includes a strong aerospace dimension from the start of training, evolving over the years. The student shapes the training by choosing specific 'technological majors' during the engineering cycle, allowing them to individualize courses and obtain expertise in a chosen field. Corporate conferences and international awareness are there to give additional skills that build critical thinking and the student's ability to make decisions. The campus allows students of IPSA and ESME Sudria to share student association events. The campus is located near fast-food restaurants and cafés and numerous university halls of residence. In over 50 years of existence, IPSA has forged relationships and lasting partnerships with significant aerospace sector players. These partners voluntarily meet students and discuss various aspects (scientific, technical, cultural, and economic) of the engineering profession. This proximity to the industry allows IPSA, through its Development Council, to align training with the industry's needs. Alumni working in major companies in the sector readily return to their school to share their experiences with future engineers at IPSA. Implanted in a highly internationalized industrial sector, it is quite natural that IPSA focuses from the beginning of learning English and the need to gain international experience. Indeed, teaching in the 4th and fifth years is only in English. Moreover, the college has created an ambitious foreign educational program that corresponds to the real world and its students' ambitions. Therefore, IPSA has 40 partner universities worldwide, hosting students for a semester or an academic year. IPSA has also been developing double degree agreements with several universities. If there is a school where passion is present, it's IPSA. The associations' projects, due to their complexity, reveal the passionate side of Ipsaliens. IPSA also organizes various events to enable its students to live their passion otherwise, such as a week dedicated to flying, presence at various air shows and gatherings including the famous meeting at 'La Ferté Alais.' Created 50 years ago, IPSA is an aeronautical and space systems engineering school located in Paris and Toulouse. IPSA propose to the students a five years graduate education program. Today IPSA claims more than ever its vocation as a specialist school in the sector. To assert its place and develop its knowledge of the area, it has built over the years reliable and long-lasting partnerships with companies in the air & space industry, both at civil and military levels. In line with the sector's prominent decision-makers, the school proposes training in touch with the market's expectations, allowing students to enter into a high level of active life while fulfilling their passion for air and space. Situated between the industrial and academic worlds, research is one of the cornerstones of IPSA pedagogy. An Aerospace Engineering college, with its research laboratories dedicated to Aerospace, IPSA places innovation at the heart of it's training in engineering. Thanks to its researchers and their works, IPSA can contract new fundamental partnerships with industrial and external laboratories. Research in the college develops in synergy with the world of fundamental and applied research. The Mechatronics, Signal and Systems Laboratory at IPSA develops robust automated systems that control complex systems. It has with CNES, universities, and some aerospace companies (industrial, SMEs, institutions) and develops innovative projects for aeronautics and space through partnerships. Thus, it is committed to the ARES program, where the goal is to develop small modular experimental rockets. Other research themes coexist in this laboratory. One of them is to study the architecture of an RF receiver (Radio Frequency) for software-defined radio and cognitive radio. Another focuses on theoretical and technological challenges imposed by the development of autonomous miniature vehicles. These collaborations bring additional resources and expertise to IPSA's partners. Simultaneously, IPSA benefits from its partners' framework and resources to be more productive, both in terms of pure research and ultimately in the transfer in education to students. The growth of research also helps to establish closer links with industry, mainly via the ASTech pole.

In response to these challenges, ISLA Gaia adopted the ISLA-Gaia Plan 2025 - a Strategic Plan for its reconstruction and repositioning as a higher education institution of national prestige. Based on the experience and the example of similar institutions of reference, this ambitious plan seeks to maximize the main competitive advantages of ISLA-Gaia, as well as taking advantage of partnerships in which it will integrate.
