- The essence of fashion and design: this is what is taught at Istituto Marangoni. Professionals who are passionate about their work and willing to share their expertise teach the young talent who, once graduated, will reach the highest professional levels. Through a complete course, where theory is taught alongside practice, students learn that creativity is a gift to be nurtured, nourished, and stimulated continuously, with passion and dedication. It is the same passion for the world of fashion and design with which our teachers teach. Is it possible to teach fashion? That was the question that Giulio Marangoni, famous for his clothes, which were already being worn by the Italian aristocracy, asked himself in 1935. To answer this question, he founded the Istituto Artistico dell'Abbigliamento Marangoni or the Marangoni Artistic Clothing Institute in Milan. It was a school to train professionals and technicians specializing in the field of fashion. Istituto Marangoni has never stopped believing in the value of training, constantly updating its programs to ensure they align with Italian and international market needs. In the past few years, Istituto Marangoni has opened four new schools: London in 2003, Paris in 2006, Shanghai in 2013, and Milano Design in 2014. Istituto Marangoni now opened the new School of Fashion, Art & Design in Florence in September 2016 and recently in Shenzhen (2016), Mumbai (2017), and Miami (2018), the international capitals of fashion, design, and luxury. The teaching spaces of Istituto Marangoni have tested the talents of four generations of professionals, hailing from 106 different countries and representing the heritage of our school. Today Istituto Marangoni continues to successfully 'teach fashion,' as its founder wished. It also teaches design, which has many contact points and overlaps with the world of fashion: color, materials, and creativity. We strive to achieve this mission by offering an extensive and detailed educational portfolio that is continuously updated to match industry demands and evolution, achieving the highest academic standards with modern and dynamic curricula focused on results, integrating the spirit of 'Italians' into the experience of students daily through both curricula and the School experience, celebrating the global and multicultural reach of Italian culture through Fashion, Art and Design, supporting and developing the potential of our teaching and administrative staff, using constant and punctual training, placing Istituto Marangoni at the center of the Fashion, Art, and Design cultures, thanks to our excellent selection of locations in leading world cultural capitals, further strengthening historical and recent connections with the most important companies and personalities in the luxury Fashion, Art and Design market. Since 1935, this has been the mission of Istituto Marangoni, beginning with fashion and extending to design, always to provide those who choose Istituto Marangoni for their training with the best means to express themselves creatively. Today Marangoni Institute is an established and recognized aesthetic laboratory of European-style culture with a specifically Italian imprint. Working with the most exciting names in fashion and design, teachers can pass on their expertise to train tomorrow's industry professionals' excellence, enabling them to contextualize classroom learning in the marketplace's realities. The path includes constant contact with the best companies in fashion and design, who look to the Istituto for new individuals to work in their companies. Besides a variety of long and short courses in fashion and design in the established schools, the new school in Florence will include an intense program of studies dedicated to art, encompassing History of Art, Art Management, and Multimedia Art. In the schools in Milan, Florence, Paris, London, and Shanghai, students worldwide meet and interact through a continuous exchange of ideas, projects, stimuli, and vision. There is one common denomination to this experience: the evolution of an aesthetic value that contributes to clarifying the future choices of profession for our students.
- "Know, know how to be, know how to do." It is on these three cornerstones that I.U.L.M. University has based its teaching mission, taking inspiration from the principles of UNESCO. Taking strength from its vocation of integrating cultural knowledge and professional competences, the University has, from its very inception over 40 years ago, always presented itself as a meeting point between the academic world and labor markets. The Istituto Universitario di Lingue Moderne (I.U.L.M.) was founded in 1968 by the Fondazione Scuola Superiore per Interpreti e Traduttori, under the inspiration of Senator Carlo Bo and Professor Silvio Baridon. From the beginning, the idea behind the project was to satisfy the labor markets' demands based on analyses of current trends. I.U.L.M., as it was then known, concentrated its attention on the study of languages, an indispensable requirement for entering increasingly international markets and contexts focused on enhancing arts and culture markets. The University was the first in Italy to perceive how the world of communication and the consumer society was evolving. Consequently, it saw the need to update its courses by providing a specific series of tools. It is in this period that it founds the Scuola Speciale di Relazioni Pubbliche. The decade that marks the definitive strengthening of the University's position in the field of communication: the Faculty of Communication and Entertainment Studies is set up alongside the University's first Faculty of Foreign languages and Literature. In 1998 the University took on its current name: Libera Università di Lingue e Comunicazione I.U.L.M. The mission of I.U.L.M. University is to train and teach professionals capable of taking on the challenges and grasping the opportunities emerging from international markets and scenarios, while also shaping men and women aware of their being and worth. I.U.L.M. guarantees its student's deep cultural awareness and solid university education - a mix of theory and practice: it adopts an integrated approach, which has proved to be extremely useful not only in helping students successfully enter the world of work but also in helping them find personal satisfaction in their lives. I.U.L.M. University has always seen itself as a pioneer: over the years, it has been able to foresee trends and adapt to change, operating as a dynamic interlocutor in a constantly evolving system. Today it is a well-established institution in the socioeconomic mechanisms of its area of influence: a privileged condition that allows it to approach relevant non-academic bodies and institutions to propose joint projects that can produce added value for teaching and research. Over 240,000 volumes, more than 1,300 periodicals, and around 56,000 films, documentaries, and language courses. At the I.U.L.M. libraries, you can consult and borrow material for your research projects, your studies, or only for your enjoyment. A made-to-measure service for students. View full university
