The ESEnfC is a result of the merger of the Nursing School Dr. Ângelo da Fonseca (established in 1881) and the Nursing School Bissaya Barreto (established in 1971). The Nursing School of Coimbra, the heir to the most ancient nursing training in Portugal, is a nationally and internationally recognized public institution due to its quality and innovation, with a recognized intervention in the health system and the society. Its educative community is committed to the humanist, scientific, technical, and cultural training of socially recognized professionals, the promotion of accredited research, the dissemination of knowledge, and the provision of services. Humanism, The School bases its action on the respect for the dignity of the human being and the freedom of thought, assigning responsibility to all the participants in the educational process and promoting the valuation, creativity, and solidarity in the construction of a learner institution. It is also students’ first choice for the three training cycles in Nursing. The ESEnfC is a reference in terms of quality of production, dissemination, and transfer of knowledge, and the training of researchers. It contributes to the development of innovative practices based on the knowledge produced. The School is recognized at the national and international levels because it systematically articulates research, training, and practices in the nursing domain. The School develops consulting and innovation services in nursing to meet the needs resulting from social changes, implements scientific evidence, and facilitates training, research, and entrepreneurship processes in articulation and complementarity with other community institutions. The ESEnfC is recognized and sought at the international level due to the qualification of the teaching body, it's undergraduate and postgraduate training and research in nursing. It promotes scientific, technical, and cultural mobility of the teaching staff, the non-teaching staff, and students, as well as the development of training and research in collaboration with similar institutions. Established in 1979, the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra is a Public Higher Education Institution located in the West center of Portugal, in the city known for centuries as the “city of students”. CERNAS – Centro de Estudos de Recursos Naturais, Ambiente e Sociedade (Natural Resources, Environment and Society Study Centre) is a research unit at the heart of our College of Agriculture and also at the College of Agriculture of the Polytechnic Institute of Castelo Branco and is part of the National Scientific and Technological System. Assessed by an International Expert Committee, which substantiated its plurennial funding by the Fundação de Ciência e Tecnologia (Science and Technology Foundation), CERNAS aims at becoming an excellency research unit in the field of Agricultural Sciences, Science and Food Engineering, Environment and Society and related activities, promoting sustainable development at a regional level as part of global intervention, cultivating and disseminating science and technology for the common good of society.
