Each year, our Student Activities Coordinator plans student elections for the student government, community breakfasts and luncheons, and even a bonfire at Aliso Creek Beach. The Student Services office also provides individualized academic counseling, tutoring services, as well as personal counseling. Professional counseling is available to assist students with problems that might occur while in schools, such as those involving classes, personal relationships, family issues, time and stress management, and disabilities. Students seeking mental health treatment can be assisted in obtaining appropriate referrals. Students are assured privacy and confidentiality to the maximum amount permitted by law. Students are provided up to 10 counseling sessions per academic year. Donations designated to the LCAD Scholarship Fund, help LCAD attract and retain the best and brightest students, regardless of their financial backgrounds. LCAD Scholarships are awarded based on need and merit and are often a student’s gateway to a degree from LCAD and a career in the creative arts. Scholarship support may take the form of one-time gifts, recurring annual contributions, or endowed funds. Annual and recurring scholarships of $1,000 and above are awarded in the donor (or the donor’s designee) and generally are distributed in the academic year after they are received. Laguna College of Art and Design (LCAD) was founded in 1961 as the Laguna Beach School of Art, a non-profit college of art and design. In the early 1900s, artists, intellectuals, and entertainers began a thriving cultural community in Laguna Beach. Drawn to the area's stunning luminance, Plein air painters like Edgar Payne and Anna Hills founded the Laguna Beach Art Association. At the same time, screen actors like Bette Davis and Charlie Chaplin helped inspire the Laguna Playhouse's founding. These pioneering cultural ventures spawned the Festival of Arts, Pageant of the Masters, Laguna Art Museum, and Laguna Beach School of Art (the predecessor to the College). Nellie Gail Moulton was one of the school's founding members and provided the first significant gift to the then-fledgling College. Since its founding in 1961, LCAD has grown significantly to include ten undergraduate majors, three graduate degree programs, eight minors, and a Post-Baccalaureate program. Welcome to the Universidad de La Laguna, the oldest University in the Canary Islands. Our University's main campus is located in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, and a city declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. However, the University also has centers in Santa Cruz and Adeje on the island of Tenerife and the island of La Palma. Our University was created in 1792. Today, the Universidad de La Laguna is laying the foundations needed to be a key actor on the global stage. The central campus of the Universidad de La Laguna is located in the city, after which it takes its name, San Cristóbal de La Laguna, which is located on the island of Tenerife. It is from here that the University carries out all of the activities assigned to it by law across the Archipelago. According to its statutes, the Universidad de La Laguna is a public institution that is a legal entity with its capital resources, acting independently following the Spanish Constitution and Spanish law, whose purpose is to provide higher education as a public service. Its activity is founded on the principle of academic freedom. This freedom allows professors to teach what they see fit and researchers to carry out the studies and research that they wish to pursue – so long as it falls within the law – while at the same time guaranteeing freedom of speech, the right to spread knowledge, and artistic, humanistic, scientific and technical production and creativity. Under the organic law regulating universities, the Universidad de La Laguna is democratically organized to ensure that its governance and that of the different centers include the participation of the different sectors that form the academic community. Today the Universidad de La Laguna has 23,000 students, 1,695 professors, and 851 administrative and service employees. Two hundred years after it was founded, the Universidad de La Laguna continues to be a beacon for society in the Canary Islands that, using the Atlantic as a bridge, has stretched out its hand to the rest of the world. Currently, this public institution is home to more than 25,000 individuals: students, academic or research staff, or administrative staff and service personnel. As the years unraveled the College's potential to bring out the best in the students that came under its care, Biñan College has renamed Saint Michael's College of Laguna in 1983, reaffirming its serious and focused position in performing its mandate and corporate social responsibility. In the same year, the Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Bachelor of Science in Education were offered. Enrolment escalated at dramatic levels, especially with the closure of two private high schools in the area. This enabled the College to expand its reach and to touch more lives. Milagros Limaco assumed the Presidency in 1986. In the years that followed (1990-1994), degree programs in Accountancy, Hospitality Management, and Computer Science, an associate degree in Computer Secretarial, and a graduate school were opened. Amidst these improvements, after twenty-one years of committed service, failing health forced Milagros Limaco to retire in 1997. Her older sister, Rosa Limaco-Cruz, once again assumed the Presidency, with the assistance of a niece, Lourdes Almeda-Sese, Ed.D. as Executive Vice-President. During this time, the College took a dramatic transformation not only in the campus' physical infrastructure but also in service delivery. The tandem leadership's performance was marked by the construction of the Learning Resource Center in 1996 and the conversion of a large covered court into an airconditioned, multi-purpose hall. Other developments included the initial offering of human resources management and information services as majors under the Business Administration program (AY 1998-1999), the launching of the College community extension program, Lingkod at Pagmamahal ng SMCL (LINGAP-SMCL), and the forging of an academic exchange program with Namhae College of Gyeongsangnam-do, South Korea (1999), with the first term of the program commencing in 2000. In 2004, Lourdes Almeda-Sese became the third College President after the retirement of Rosa Limaco-Cruz. Across the two generations, keeping the faith in maintaining a tradition of quality and excellence has been the leadership's living advocacy. SMCL's success can be attributed to its academic strength, which has served as a source of pride not only in the SMCL community but also in the region. The Institution maintains competitive faculty members plus a curriculum that adheres and reflects the current trends and changes in the different programs. These are complemented by the Institution's modern facilities and technology that address the needs of each program. With its high scholastic standards, SMCL's academic excellence has been acknowledged in the academic community. One of the country's central accrediting bodies, the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA), awarded SMCL with a Level III Reaccredited Status Liberal Arts, Business Administration, and Education programs. Likewise, the Nursing, Grade School, and High School programs received Level II Reaccredited Status and the Hospitality Management Program, Level I Accredited Status. The Computer Science program was granted Candidate Status. The PACUCOA gave the College the Gold Award for 100% of its programs accredited in 2015. It was also awarded Deregulated Status by the Commission on Higher Education in 2003 and has retained its status in 2009. In 2016, CHED granted SMCL Autonomous Status useful for three years. SMCL has been awarded ISO 9001:2008 certification by TUV Rheinland effective 24 April 2014 until 23 April 2017, proving its commitment to be globally comparable and competitive in its operations. LSPU shall be the Center for Sustainable Development, transforming Lives and Communities. LSPU Provides quality education through responsive instruction, distinctive research, sustainable extension, and production services for improved quality of life towards nation-building. The University shall primarily provide advanced education, professional, technological, and vocational instruction in agriculture, fisheries, forestry, science, engineering, industrial technologies, teacher education, medicine, law, arts and sciences, information technology, and other fields. It shall also undertake research and extension services and provide progressive leadership in its areas of specialization. At LSPU are committed to continual improvement to provide quality, efficient and effective services to the University Stakeholder's highest level of satisfaction through a dynamic and excellent management system imbued with utmost integrity, professionalism, and innovation. This state institution (LSPU) started from its humble beginnings in 1952. it was first established as a provincial high school known as Baybay Provincial High School, the first public high school established in the shoreline (bay) district of Laguna de Bay and the second in the whole Province of Laguna. In 1957, by Republic Act No. 1807, in June 1957, the Baybay Provincial High School was converted into Baybay National Agricultural and Vocational School (BNAVS). BNAVS became the PACD-BVE Training Center in rice production for American Peace Corps Volunteers. This center produced 682 graduates. The Manpower Training Center Started to operate in the school year 1968-1969. BNAVS also became the pilot school for the 2-year Agricultural Technician Curriculum, Associate in Agriculture. This started in December 1969 with eight enrollees. The College was also one of the Experimental Agricultural High Schools (EAHS) selected by the Educational Development Projects Implementing Task Force (EDPITAF) under Presidential Decree No. 6-A, to receive World Bank Aid of infrastructure, equipment, and staff development. This state institution was a grantee of the Agricultural Education Outreach Project (AEOP) from 1980 to 1983. AEOP was a research project of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Research programs became more prioritized, and government extension programs became more aggressive. The College was also one of the Experimental Agricultural High Schools (EAHS) selected by the Educational Development Projects Implementing Task Force (EDPITAF) under Presidential Decree No. 6-A, to receive World Bank Aid of infrastructure, equipment, and staff development. This state institution was a grantee of the Agricultural Education Outreach Project (AEOP) from 1980 to 1983. AEOP was a research project of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Research programs became more prioritized, and government extension programs became more aggressive. On June 10, 1983, under Batas Pambansa No. 482, BNCAT was further converted into a state college, known as the Laguna State Polytechnic College. From then on, the Laguna State Polytechnic College grew more prominent and better. With the incumbency of Dr. Ricardo A. Wagan as the first College President in 1986, several projects and infrastructure developments poured into LSPC. Among the remarkable accomplishments then were as follows: In 1993, this state institution was designated by the Department of Education, Culture and Sports (DECS) as one of the seven (7) Provincial Technical Institutes of Agriculture (PTIAs) in Region IV under the Aus-AID-AGRITECH Project aimed at improving the curriculum, instructional programs and the development of practical and applied researches. It opened four (4) satellite campuses through Memoranda of Agreements with the local governments. It integrated the following three (3) CHED-Supervised Institutions following the Special Provision No. 2 of the CHED FY 1999 Budget under the General Appropriations Act of 1999 or Republic Act No. 8745 and Republic Act No. 8292 Higher Education Modernization Act of 1997, through the issuance of the following: CHED Memorandum No. 18, s. 1999 entitled Issuance of the Implementing Guidelines on the Integration of CHED-Supervised Institutions (CSIs) to State Universities and Colleges (SUCs). This integration formally took place on October 5 and 25, 1999, respectively, to wit: Laguna College of Arts and Trades now LSPU-Sta. Cruz Campus is located at Barangay Bubukal, Sta. Cruz, Laguna Los Baños College of Fisheries now LSPU-Los Baños Campus located at Barangays Malinta, Los Baños, Laguna CHED Memorandum Order No. 27, s. 2000 Issuance of Implementing Guidelines of the Integration of CHED-Supervised Institutions (CSIs) to State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) (Phase II). The formal turn-over ceremony took place on December 11, 2000, to wit: San Pablo City National School of Arts and Trades now LSPU-San Pablo City Campus located at Barangay Del Remedio, San Pablo City. His incumbency is marked by a list of distinctive accomplishments such as the establishment of a multi-campus State Institution a remarkable increase in the number of non-degree and degree curricular programs/offerings, which resulted in increased inrolment and need for more teachers exempted Secondary School Teachers to be transferred to DECS per CHED-DECS joint circular, intensified rehabilitation, repair, face-lifting of old structures and construction of new academic, research, library, dormitory, canteen-cafeteria, sports and recreation facilities opened the Graduate Studies, and Applied Research in its four (4) Campuses acquired state of the art equipment, e.g., Speech Lab., computers, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology Laboratory equipment, the Tissue Culture Laboratory, HO.
