- The Hurstbridge Learning Co-operative is a parent-run, alternative primary school situated in beautiful bushland close to the township of Hurstbridge, Victoria. Established in 1973, the Co-op is a community of families committed to providing the resources and experiences needed to create a more stimulating alternative to the mainstream classroom. We believe that every member of the community can contribute to the learning and raising of its children. At Co-op, children are given a true voice. They work alongside their friends, parents, and teachers to develop their unique passions. Enrollments are kept to around thirty children. The intimate size of the Co-op creates a community much like an extended family. The Co-op values play and child-inspired learning. Child-inspired learning creates an environment where parents learn also, not only from the children but from each other as well. The very name ‘the Co-op” acknowledges this reciprocal effect. Activities and projects provide opportunities for parents and children to participate and learn together. Excursions, camps, and visitors to the school enhance this shared experience of learning. We believe that, when provided with a positive and supportive environment, children have a natural curiosity and desire to learn. Natural curiosity and passion are at the heart of both the teaching and learning philosophy at the Co-op. Co-op is seen to be part of a life-long learning process, which doesn’t start and finish with the school day. The aim is to respect each child, accept their individual development and recognize the child’s ownership of their learning. We also support non-authoritarian conflict resolution processes that respect differences and empower the children to develop solutions that meet everyone’s needs. The Learning Co-operative is committed to the fundamental belief that all individuals are unique and, as such, we each have our unique learning agenda and preferred ways of learning. We, therefore, strive to create an environment where children are free to explore their creativity and individuality and those of others. Choice, co-operation, open-mindedness, non-judgemental attitudes, wonder, and curiosity are defining features of the learning environment. We are committed to the principles of self-awareness and empowerment where individuals have input into their learning and personal development. We are committed to the process of consensus, where each individual believes that their opinion, thoughts, or feelings are respected, acknowledged, and validated and they have an obligation to both express and articulate their needs and views and listen to others do the same. We are committed to creating an environment that is nurturing and caring of the individual both in times of achievement and in times of struggle. We are committed to an environment that fosters and promotes a love of learning, sharing, and collaboration, peace, and non-violence. We believe that good education must enhance our humanity and foster the values that will enable us to live in harmony with our fellow human beings and with our environment. Education must focus on the person as ‘person’ and not just as ‘student’. We believe that the Learning Co-operative is a diverse environment. We are inspired by and committed to, this diversity. We believe it is integral to our philosophy and fundamental principles. These principles are tolerance, patience, understanding, forgiveness, cooperation, respect, trust, compassion, diversity for oneself and the community in which we live, consensus, empowerment, and personal integrity. We believe that an environment and community that aspires to these principles can create a place where children will develop a strong sense of self, as well as empathy for others. We believe that this then will enable children to pursue their natural curiosity, wonder, and inquiry and help them develop their clear values and visions for life. View full school

In St. Mary’s & St. Illtyd’s, we continue to strengthen our relationship with Jesus and see rights as the foundation of what we do in school. We want our children to demonstrate and model rights respecting behaviors so that they can make a difference. - The International Primary School - Insight School is the oldest international school in St Petersburg has been operating since 2001. Originally, the school was created so that English-speaking children of expatriate parents in Saint Petersburg could receive the same education as if they were in England. The UK national curriculum allows each child to continue the education process in the UK or any British school in the world. The well-established UK National Curriculum is used throughout the school. The curriculum uses a program of study that any UK school will be familiar with, using textbooks and widely recognized resources that would be found in any UK Primary School). The supervision and guidance of ‘The UK National Curriculum (EYFS, KS1 &KS2)’ are by the Education Consultancy @school-in-UK Ltd led by an experienced past Headmaster and ISI Inspector. Lessons are monitored and children’s learning and progress are rigorously assessed using Standardised tests used throughout the UK. This enables pupils to seamlessly continue their studies wherever the British Education system is used. Insight International School teachers are fully native English speakers with extensive experience. Classes are of mixed nationality so Russian pupils and children of expatriate parents who do not speak Russian study together. We communicate only in English throughout the school day. This encourages pupils to quickly master the English language and effectively learn through the medium of English all elements of the UK National Curriculum. The traditional four weeks of additional study in England by pupils of Insight International School at St John’s School, Sidmouth is of immense value. Children live in carefully selected local cottages a short distance from the school in the quintessential English seaside town in East Devon. On school days they study besides their English counterparts fully immersed in all lessons. They also participate in the extensive after-school extra-curricula program. The weekend program includes visiting places of historical and cultural interest, as well as famous sights and entertainment venues. The time in England improves language skills immeasurably as well as giving children unforgettable memories. In addition to the development of academic abilities and a unique level of English, we allow pupils to develop their intellectual, creative, emotional, and physical talents. Included in our curriculum are chess, French, History of St Petersburg, judo, athletics, singing, mental mathematics, speech therapy, art, choreography, drama, skiing, football, and PSHE. Theatre arts are an integral part of the curriculum at Insight International School. Drama lessons contribute to the full development of the individual with children gaining confidence and poise as a result. Lessons enable children to speak in public with confidence. Lessons also contribute significantly to the English speaking skills of children. The result of the lessons is spectacular musical performances held on stage at The Music Hall Theatre in St Petersburg. All our pupils participate in the performances during which they demonstrate their vocal, dancing and acting talents. The school is located in a beautiful park on the banks of the river. Children enjoy clean air and are surrounded by a natural environment. Children enjoy two daily walking sessions, outdoor sports, and a Physical Education program. Substantial and healthy meals are served four times a day using fresh ingredients. We do not use convenience foods and meals are prepared on-site. View full school

- Curriculum: IPC Kendale is a small but dynamic school that provides a safe, supportive and caring environment where a dedicated staff guides children towards the acquisition of knowledge, skills, and confidence, the necessary foundations for a life-long love of learning. Academic progress is, of course, of supreme importance and we at Kendale believe that is best achieved in a warm, caring, and non-institutional atmosphere where feelings of security and self-confidence facilitate the learning process. We believe it is important to strengthen the ties between family and community values with special emphasis on the value of respect for others as well as for oneself. Kendale's happy family environment ensures that the child is never "lost in the crowd" but is nurtured emotionally and intellectually by qualified and loving staff. All classroom teachers are fully qualified and have English as their mother tongue. Our teachers are enthusiastic and dedicated. They are skilled in devising a variety of stimulating and carefully prepared approaches to the many topics and activities which comprise the curriculum. They understand the importance of encouraging the children's natural curiosity and of helping them to freely express their personalities within the framework of each assignment. Children who frequent international schools today are the international citizens and potential leaders of tomorrow. It is therefore essential for these children to gain the linguistic freedom that leads to insight and flexibility in the understanding of other cultures. To meet this need, Kendale, in addition to its strong English program, provides a comprehensive course in the Italian language and also offers an introductory French language course for children of 7 years and over. Reading and writing in English are begun at about age 5. The mathematics program not only includes thorough training in basic skills but encourages flexibility of thought and openness to different approaches in problem-solving situations. Investigation and deduction as well as the application of mathematical concepts to practical experience are strongly emphasized. At Kendale, each child is guided towards developing a close, personal relationship to music. The program is based on the Dalcroze method which develops each child's innate musicality and creativity through spontaneous and active participation. The program includes singing, folk dancing, rhythmic and creative movement as well as technique and improvisation with percussion instruments. View full school
- St James’s Primary School is a safe, happy, and friendly place where our children are given every opportunity to develop and grow physically, spiritually, intellectually, and socially. We aim to be a center of academic excellence with great concern for children at risk. We strive to ensure that we discover at least one strength of each child before they leave our care. Our school aims to instill in all our pupils a great sense of worth and uniqueness, thereby enabling them to develop to their full potential. Our school welcomes parent involvement and participation at every level through the Parent’s Association, Board of Management, and Home School Liaison Activities. Creativity in the classroom grew out of the Canal Communities Partnership’s attempt to address social and educational disadvantage dynamically, with the hope of eventually impacting on early school leaving endemic in our area. As a result of consultation with local schools, it was felt that through the visual arts children could be allowed to have new learning experiences and exposure to learning creatively and at the same time exploring concepts and ways of working individually and collectively. The project runs for thirty weeks in total in each of the six schools. This is divided into three groups of ten-week sessions. Therefore, three classes in each school are facilitated each year. The basic materials used are paint, clay, fabric and fiber, chalk, and oil pastels. Each school receives a budget for materials, documentation, and transport. View full school

- St. Brigid’s, The Coombe was established in 1887 by the Holy Faith Sisters and remained as a Holy Faith school until 2008 when we moved into our long-awaited new school building which is adjacent to the old school building on The Coombe. It is now a Catholic school in the parish of Francis Street and continues to promote the Christian and caring ethos of the Holy Faith order. Under the guidance of and in partnership with the very active parish administrator of Francis St., we facilitate and prepare those children who wish to receive the sacraments of Penance, Communion, and Confirmation. We strive to create an awareness of social justice among our school community. Therefore, we encourage everyone to contribute to people in need, at local and international levels. During Lent and Advent, we promote the work of Trócaire and support the many projects for Muslim, Hindu, and Christian communities in the Developing World. In December, we raise money for our local charity, Penny Dinners, when teaching staff and children carol sing in Thomas Street. Our school also participates in the Our World Irish Aid Awards and this enables the pupils to explore global issues. The school is run by an active and very involved Board of Management who meet at least five times a year. This also includes a Home School Community Liaison teacher. We also work closely with four traffic wardens assigned to our school. Early Start is our pre-school year at St. Brigid’s Primary School. It is for children aged three to four who live in The Coombe and its surrounding area. The scheme is funded by The Department of Education and Skills and is run by a fully qualified primary school teacher and a childcare worker. Each session is two and a half hours long and facilitates a group of 15 children. The rich and varied opportunities of Early Start provide many learning contexts in which the children can play and develop their cognitive, language, personal, emotional, social, aesthetic, and imaginative lives. The original St. Mary’s Primary School was opened in 1855 by the Irish Christian Brothers. In 1874, the school was extended with new classrooms added. The school at St. Mary’s Place was renowned for the high standard and quality of its education. In the 1930s all subjects were taught through Irish and under the direction of Vincent O’Brien, the St. Mary’s School Choir became known as one of the best in the city and, for a while, only boys from St. Mary’s were accepted into the newly-formed Pro-Cathedral Palestrina Choir. In 1980, the old St. Mary’s School was sold and a new school was built on the present site. Two other schools, St. Joseph’s Dorset Street and St. Michan’s Halston Street were amalgamated with St. Mary’s to become Scoil Plas Mhuire for boys. In 1990, a girls’ school, Scoil Mhuire‘s Iosif, transferred from Kings Inn Street to share the building with the boys’ school. The girls’ school originated in Mountjoy Street as an orphanage run by the Irish Sisters of Charity, dating back to 1866. In the 1930s, it developed into the Josephian Primary School before amalgamating with Kings Inn National School in 1985. View full school

They will also have the opportunity to visit the high school and meet the staff and pupils there. Lily Lane Primary School was built in 1904 we now have approximately 570 pupils on roll. We have a 60 place nursery, where children are taught in four groups of 15. Due to increasing pupil numbers we now have 75 children in Reception and Year 1, 90 children in Year 2, 3,4, 5 and we have 60 children in year 6. Teachers within the same year group meet regularly to jointly plan their lessons. We aim to provide a high standard of education within a caring and secure environment and we have a very committed and hard-working staff to help achieve this. If you have any concerns or questions about your child’s education please do not hesitate to speak to your child’s teacher or call the office to make an appointment. In addition to our classrooms, we have ICT suites, a music room, a parent community room, and a large outdoor area with a MUGA’ (multi-use games area). We have recently added a new soft surface and climbing wall and have developed a small forest school area. The curriculum that we provide at Lily Lane is designed to be inclusive of all children and cater to all learning styles. Our committed, hardworking, and talented staff plan lessons that are creative and imaginative, whilst nurturing and developing a love of learning. We place a big emphasis on the teaching of key skills in reading, writing, and maths to ensure that children reach high standards of learning. Our curriculum encompasses the social and emotional aspects of learning and the well-being of children is seen as the foundation of academic success. Our curriculum aims to inspire all children at Lily Lane. We endeavor to capture the interests of each pupil, providing exciting and enriching learning experiences. We encourage children to become independent learners, to ask and answer questions about the world around them to create a love of learning. We offer a curriculum that is balanced and broadly based and which promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental, and physical development of pupils at school and in society. We aim to prepare pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities, and experiences of later life. Personal, Social, and Health Education is taught regularly as part of our curriculum. Also each half term we have a PSHE week where we look at different aspects of social and emotional health such as anti-bullying and friendships. Health issues are also discussed as well as sex and relationship education which will be age-appropriate and in the context of caring relationships. We look after our environment to keep children safe within our grounds and the safety and well-being of our children is the basis of all our school rules and policies. By the Education Act 2002 and guidance set out in ‘Working Together to Safeguard Children, Lily Lane Primary School will work in partnership with other organizations where appropriate to identify any concerns about child welfare and take action to address them. Lily Lane Primary School’s Safeguarding policy has been developed to ensure that all adults in Lily Lane Primary School are working together to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people. The policy has been ratified by the Governing Body and is reviewed annually. Our policy describes the management systems and arrangements in place to create and maintain a safe learning environment for all our children, young people, and staff. It identifies actions that should be taken to redress any concerns about child welfare. At Lily Lane Primary School we celebrate the diversity of backgrounds of all pupils, families, and the wider school community and are proud of our cohesive and welcoming community. We value the importance of personal histories and journeys. We understand the vital role that promoting core values has in ensuring that groups or individuals within the school are not subjected to any form of intimidation, influence, or acceptance of extreme views. We follow equal opportunities guidance to ensure that there will be no discrimination against any individual or group, regardless of faith, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, political or financial status, or similar. As well as promoting the values through the curriculum they are promoted through our ethos, circle time, whole school and class assemblies, and school council. With your support, we work hard at Lily Lane to prepare our children to be responsible and reflective citizens. View full school
- We are a busy, happy school and highly value our children's families and the local community we serve. We aim to keep a 'family feel' to our school and want all of our children to experience 'Pride in achievement', in a whole range of curriculum subjects, through a varied and exciting range of learning opportunities, in and out of the classroom, within and beyond the school day. At Liberty Primary our vision is at the heart of everything we do. Our vision is our drive to the future and it is held at the school by all that are part of our community. Our vision is powerful and unique and believed by all. Please take the time to read our vision as this is what we want for all of our pupils at Liberty. School governors are people who want to make a positive contribution to children's education. Governors are one of the largest volunteer forces in the country and have an important part to play in raising school standards through their three key roles of setting strategic direction, ensuring accountability, and monitoring and evaluating school performance. The role of the governing body is key to the effectiveness of a school. Time and time again Ofsted (the national inspection body for schools) has noted that the most effective schools demonstrate effective leadership and management - including by the governing body. There are different types of schools with different categories of governors. Almost anyone over 18 years of age can become a governor. There are no particular qualifications or requirements, other than a willingness to give time to the role and a capacity for working with other people. At Liberty, we provide a creative curriculum based around the Cornerstones Curriculum, a nationally-recognized approach for delivering outstanding learning opportunities for children. The Cornerstones Curriculum is a creative and thematic approach to learning that is mapped to the 2014 Primary National Curriculum to ensure comprehensive coverage of national expectations. Our new curriculum will be delivered through Imaginative Learning Projects (ILPs)which will provide a rich menu of exciting and motivating learning activities that make creative links between all aspects of our children’s learning. We believe children learn better when they are encouraged to use their imagination and apply their learning to engaging contexts. Our new curriculum will provide lots of learning challenges throughout the academic year that will require children to solve problems, apply themselves creatively, and express their knowledge and understanding effectively across the curriculum. Cornerstones also provide a rigorous essential skills framework that outlines the end of year expectations in all subjects. These essential skills are tied to activities and are age-related so that staff can track children’s progress and identify their individual learning needs. Physical education plays a vital role in children's development and growth. At Liberty Primary School we aim high to provide physical activity throughout the school day. We provide 100% of the children in our school with 2 hours of PE a week and we aim to provide as many opportunities for children to receive an additional 3rd hour as well, through after-hours clubs and lunchtime activities. In Key Stage One children develop their fundamental movement skills and in Key Stage Two, the children progress towards using these skills within set games, learning the rules and how to play as a team. They will also continue to work on improving their dance routines and movements as well as advancing to using a full range of apparatus during gymnastic lessons. This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. At Liberty Primary School we take the care, welfare, and protection of our children very seriously. We believe all children have a right to feel safe within the school, home, and the community. If you have any concerns about the welfare of children in our school you must report them to us immediately. The Child Protection Liaison Officers (CPLOs) in our school are Nadine O'Hara (Headteacher), Rena Shahjahan (Lead Assistant Headteacher), and Maureen Ebanks ( Parent support partnership advisor). We have a Child Protection Policy, copies of which are available from the school office. - Liberton Primary School serves southeast of Edinburgh and was built in 1954. The school is a two-story build set in beautiful, extensive park grounds. We have recently had an outdoor classroom built. At Liberton Primary School we are a ‘learning community’ where staff, pupils, parents, After School Club, and the local community all work together to further the aims and aspirations of our school. At Liberton Primary School we aim to provide a happy, stimulating environment in which every child feels confident and valued as an individual and thus motivated to achieve high educational and personal standards. We are committed to providing learning experiences of the highest quality within an environment of mutual respect and support where every member of our school community feels happy, confident, and valued.’ We work hard to realize this vision and constantly strive to improve the educational experiences for our pupils and quality provision throughout our school. At Liberton, we use the Co-operative Learning approach to enable our children to learn how to collaborate on activities successfully. We ensure that every child has an active role and that social skills are explicitly taught. We understand that learning is frequently most effective when learners have the opportunity to think and talk together, to discuss ideas, question, analyze and solve problems as a team. An additional support need comes from anything which is a barrier to learning. Most of all schools will have some children with additional support needs of some kind. The education authority has many legal duties towards pupils with additional support needs. An additional support need comes from anything which is a barrier to learning. Most of all schools will have some children with additional support needs of some kind. The education authority has many legal duties towards pupils with additional support needs. Our shared values of mutual respect between staff and pupils, high expectations of success within a caring and supportive environment form the basis of our positive school ethos. Within our wider school community, we promote tolerance and understanding of one another and value diversity. We are committed to advancing equality of opportunity for all and we work actively towards eliminating all forms of bullying and discrimination. We actively foster good relations between diverse groups and individuals. What we aim to achieve: Pupils will have greater opportunities to become skilled as creative learners and thinkers. All pupils will benefit from high-quality learning experiences. Learning for children will be demanding and challenging. All pupils will continue to be supported in their learning. There will be great opportunities for children to have choices in their learning. At Liberton Primary School we work very hard to encourage every pupil to realize their full potential and aim to provide a rich, broad, and balanced curriculum, to meet the needs of all our children. Teaching strategies include problem-solving, investigation, and discussion using a wide range of activities and materials. Pupils are taught either as a whole class or in groups, pairs, or individually so that the curriculum can be tailored, as far as possible, to fit the needs of each child. We are developing our use of enhanced group working through Cooperative Learning. The main areas of the curriculum are English & Literacy, Numeracy, and Mathematics, Health & Well Being, Social Studies, Science, Technologies, Religious and Moral Education, and Expressive Arts. - We at Leys Primary School will provide a broad and balanced curriculum for our children to acquire the knowledge, practice the skills and develop understanding to thrive in the 21st century and contribute positively to their community and global society. Leys Primary School's motto is ‘Resilience to Achieve Aspiration to Succeed’ – all of our children know that we have high expectations of them and we know that every child deserves a safe, happy, supportive and purposeful learning environment in which to grow and thrive. “We use of Schemes of Work, including the International Primary Curriculum, to focus on contextualizing lessons and activities to engage our children in meaningful, challenging & cross-curricular tasks to ensure we have broad & balanced curriculum which focuses on creative learning, not just doing. Assessment for Learning is central to our teaching and learning in every subject & we address the requirements of the National Curriculum (bearing in mind Key Performance Indicators) to ensure challenge & progression.” In 2014, a new primary Curriculum was introduced, along with a new assessment system that focuses more on what children should know and be able to do at each stage. From September 2014, the government removed ‘level descriptors from the National Curriculum. Schools are expected to establish their assessment systems. At Leys Primary, we have in place rigorous but sensitive systems for formative (in-process) and summative (termly) assessment which track pupils’ performance and informs next steps in learning. We ensure that each child receives a range of opportunities to reach and exceed standards. We ‘quality assures’ our assessments through regular training, sharing teacher expertise, regular monitoring, and cross Federation, external, and Borough moderation. SATs tests will reflect an assessment of the new curriculum at the end of the Key Stages (Y2 & 6). Writing will be judged through reported teacher assessment against national frameworks and the reading, grammar spelling, and punctuation, and maths tests will be externally marked with a score on a standardized scale, ranging from 80 to 130. A score of 100 is the expected outcome at the end of Year 6, indicating that children are ready for secondary school. There will be a Phonics Screening Check in Year 1 & 2.Teachers use formative assessment in their classrooms every day. Formative assessment includes sharing targets and criteria with students and giving them feedback while they are working towards those targets. The purpose is to help students understand how to improve. We love to learn in Nursery and we always try our best. We enjoy learning through play and structured activities. We learn and have fun in a friendly and open environment. We use both the inside and outdoor areas to extend our learning. Reception is an exciting and enjoyable place to learn. Your child will take part in a range of activities across seven areas of learning. This will allow them to explore new concepts through play, as well as through more structured activities. In Year 1 we look forward to learning lots of new skills through creative and meaningful lessons, encouraging your children to be resilient and independent learners. Safeguarding children at Leys Primary School is the responsibility of everyone. As such, all members of staff must safeguard and promote the welfare of children. This duty is placed upon the school by Section 175 of the Education Act 2002. Therefore, all staff should know who to go to and how to report any concerns they may have about a child being harmed or at risk of being harmed. The Designated Safeguarding Lead Practitioner in our school is Mrs. Pamela Gough and in her absence Mr. Grant Krog, (Headteacher). The designated teacher for Looked After Children and the person in charge of CAFs (Common Assessment Framework) Assessments, is our Assistant Headteacher – Mrs. A Rogers. The Governing Body representative for Child Protection is Dame Anna P.L. Hassan. If we are concerned that a child may be at risk from significant harm (abuse) or is being abused, the school is required to refer their concerns to LBBD Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) and the police, if necessary. In exceptional circumstances, this may happen without the consent or knowledge of parents or carers. The school also has a responsibility to act upon other concerns that they may have about a child’s welfare in circumstances where there are no suspicions of child abuse. Examples of this may be when a child is demonstrating inappropriate behavior, is involved in bullying, is failing to come to school, or where difficulties at home are affecting the child’s well being is at risk of being drawn into terrorism. This list is by no means exhaustive. The school will normally seek to discuss any concerns about a pupil with the pupil/pupils’ parents. It will be the Safeguarding Lead or her representative that will make contact with the parent in the event of a concern, suspicion, or disclosure. Our focus is the safety and well-being of the pupil. Therefore, if the school believes that notifying parents could increase the risk to the child or exacerbate the problem, advice will first be sought from MASH and/or the police before parents are contacted. - “Outstanding partnerships with parents and carers ensure that pupils learn quickly. The school is very popular because parents and carers respect and appreciate the inspirational leadership the headteacher and her dedicated team of staff provide. There is a firm belief that all pupils, irrespective of their backgrounds, can succeed, and consequently, pupils develop high levels of self-esteem. Our motto ‘Inspiring today’s learners to become tomorrow’s outstanding leaders’, underpins everything we do. Our core vision is that we will deliver outstanding education to all of our pupils. Leopold is a dynamic and innovative school, with the central philosophy that learning should be vibrant. We do this by providing the highest standards of teaching, excellent resources, and exciting learning opportunities. Our strong values create a safe environment where pupil wellbeing and achievement are developed. At Leopold, we share a common purpose – to ensure that all of our pupils become their own success stories. The high levels of care, guidance, and support provided for pupils, alongside a clear set of shared values, contribute strongly towards pupils’ exceptional spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development. Leopold has become highly oversubscribed over the years and in 2013, Brent Local Authority approached us to consider running a temporary bulge provision of two reception classes in the Gwenneth Rickus building on Brentfield Road due to the lack of school places in Brent. Within that same year, classes were also added in years 1, 2, and 3. The DFE came to visit us in 2014 and was highly impressed with the provision. In January 2016 Leopold Primary School officially became a four-form of entry school on two sites. Inspiring today’s learners to become tomorrow’s leaders underpins the ethos at Leopold and reflects the beliefs of all pupils, staff, and governors here at our school. Collectively we build the aspirations of our pupils and instill in them the skills and learning experiences to achieve their full potential, whilst exposing them to “wow” experiences to take on their journey through life. On arriving at Leopold School, you immediately notice the excellent learning behavior of our pupils and the passion, enthusiasm, and dedication of our staff. We believe that the journey that children take to learning is life-long and that Leopold is where this very important journey begins. We need to promote the drive for excellence in modern British society. We aim to provide children with rich and memorable learning experiences, in an ever-changing world and to foster a love of learning so that our children become successful learners, confident individuals, and responsible citizens. We are very proud of our school, of the pupils, the parents, carers, and grandparents. Because of community commitment and trust in the school, we continue to grow in numbers and strength. Reception and Year 1 follow the Maths Mastery approach. This is largely focused on problem-solving and aims to teach fewer topics in greater depth to ensure pupils develop a strong understanding of their work. Maths Mastery functions as a long-term program and is fully in line with the 2014 National Curriculum. Leopold Primary School adopted this approach in 2016 after recognizing its positive implementation in other schools. On entering Nursery, children use the first phase of the Letters and Sounds program to develop a basic grounding in phonics and sound skills. Reception, Year 1 and selected Year 2 pupils are working under the Read, Write, Inc scheme of learning. The program guides children on their reading journey and helps them to establish skills in writing, spelling, and phonetic work. By the end of Year 1, all children utilizing the Read, Write, Inc framework have progressed into accurate and well-practiced readers. Leopold Primary School has implemented the Creative Primary Curriculum offered by Cornerstones throughout all year groups and Key Stages. This program of teaching offers a knowledge- and skills-based curriculum with a focus on creativity and a balanced approach to learning. The importance of laws whether they are those that govern the class, the school, or the country, are consistently reinforced. Each class discusses and sets its own rules that are clearly understood by all and seen to be necessary to ensure that every class member can learn in a safe and ordered environment. Our pupils are taught the value and reasons behind laws, that they govern and protect us, the responsibilities that this involves, and the consequences when laws are broken. Democracy is embedded at the school. Pupils are always listened to by adults and are taught to listen carefully and with concern to each other, respecting the right of every individual to have their opinions and voices heard. Pupils also have the opportunity to air their opinions and ideas through our School Council Team and pupil questionnaires. The elections of the School Council members are based solely on pupil votes, reflecting our British electoral system and demonstrating democracy in action. Within school, pupils are actively encouraged to make choices, knowing that they are in a safe and supportive environment. As a school, we educate and provide boundaries for our pupils to make choices safely, through the provision of a safe environment and empowering education. Our pupils are encouraged to know, understand and exercise their rights and personal freedoms and are advised how to exercise these safe examples of this can be seen in our e-safety and P.S.H.E. lessons. Whether it is through the choice of challenge of how they record of participation in our numerous extracurricular activities our pupils are given the freedom to make choices. Respect is one of the core values of our school. Our PSHE curriculum embodies values of mutual respect through many different units of learning. Respect is promoted during our Headteacher and achievers assemblies. Pupils learn that their behaviors affect their rights and those of others and all members of the school community are expected to treat each other with respect. Our core value of Respect ensures tolerance of those who have different faiths and beliefs. Leopold Primary School enhances pupil's understanding of different faiths and beliefs through religious education studies P.S.H.E. work visits to other schools in different settings to participate in celebrations such as Diwali inviting guest speakers from many different cultural backgrounds. Beliefs, traditions, and customs will be studied in-depth, with visitors being invited into our school to enrich and extend understanding. Through this, our pupils gain an enhanced understanding of their place in a culturally diverse society. View full school
- Leith Primary is an amazing and historic building right on the edge of Leith Links. The school truly reflects its catchment area. We are proud of the diversity of the children and families we serve. We are proud of the quality of education we provide for all children. We have an excellent record of providing care, support, and challenge for all pupils. We promote positive behavior, respect for all and encourage a positive attitude to learn. If you would like to see more please arrange a visit through the office. The origins of the school go back to the 15th century. The present site has been the location of the school since 1806. The present building, opened in 1898, is the second to stand on this site and originally provided education for children up to 14. Leith Primary School is very much part of the local landscape. Topped proudly as it is by a ship, a reminder of Leith’s maritime past, it is a well-recognized landmark. We are very fortunate to have access to an area of Leith Links just in front of the school. In 1998 the school celebrated our Centenary with several special events. Inside there are tall staircases, long corridors, and high ceilings where many of the original Victorian features are still in evidence. Although the fabric of the building is over 100 years old, the classrooms are large and light. In 2014 the School gym hall and Nursery in the Duncan Place Annex were closed. The new Gym Hall and Nursery will be opened at the end of January 2018. Leith Primary aspires to be: An inclusive school that lies at the heart of the diverse community of Leith. A school that creates the conditions for learners to achieve their highest potential with an innovative and inspirational curriculum. A modern learning environment that is used flexibly and creatively. A school that encourages all children to be responsible global citizens. A school that involves children, parents, and staff, with an ethos of collaboration and sharing, listening and acting on feedback but also developing leadership. Taking care of our children’s well-being and making sure they are alright – even before they are born – helps us ensure the most positive outcomes for them later in life. It gives them the potential to grow up ready to succeed and play their part in society. Our school adopts the Getting it right for every child in Edinburgh approach to give the right help to children, young people, and families when they need it from a joined-up multi-agency team. Getting it right for every child is the foundation for work with all children and young people, including adult services where parents are involved. It builds on universal health and education services and is embedded in the developing early years and youth frameworks. Developments in the universal services of health and education, such as Better Health Better Care and Curriculum for Excellence, are identifying what needs to be done in those particular areas to improve outcomes for children. We place a high priority on the well-being and safety of our pupils. To this end, we have in place a personal safety program to give pupils knowledge and life skills to keep them safe from all forms of abuse. Where we have concerns that a child about the possible abuse of pupils we are required to follow the Edinburgh and the Lothian’s Inter-Agency Child Protection Procedures which set out the specific duties and responsibilities towards the child and their parents/carers. - Leamington is a two-form entry school. The nursery can accommodate up to 104 children. The reception classes and the nursery are known as the Foundation stage of the national curriculum. Years 1 and 2 are Key Stage 1 and years 3 to 6 are key stage 2. While some children thrive in the whole class environment, others enjoy working in smaller groups and pairs. They are glad of the security smaller numbers bring. As well as a full quota of qualified teachers, Leamington provides invaluable help to children who progress better with a more individualized approach. We at Leamington Community Primary School will work to provide a happy, secure, and stimulating environment in which every child is valued and encouraged to achieve their full potential through the development of a love of learning and a desire to expand their knowledge. We plan to do this by: To promote effective learning for all our children through high-quality teaching To provide a safe, secure, stimulating, and welcoming environment where everyone is valued To ensure that our children achieve their full potential and work towards high standards To promote good behavior through high standards of care and mutual respect To foster a supportive partnership between home, school, and our neighborhood Here at Leamington, we value the whole child. We feel that although offering high-quality education is of key importance, we also want to promote 5 core values to every child. The 5 values are: Respect Courage Honesty Friendship Determination At Leamington Community Primary School, we value the diverse ethnic backgrounds of all pupils and families and we teach tolerance and respect for the differences in our community and the wider world. Underpinning all of this, are a range of curriculum topics that have strong links to Britain, both past and present. Our school promotes and believes in the British characteristics of Tolerance, Respect, Fair Play, and Good Community Spirit. Leamington’s Geography curriculum teaches our pupils that Britain is an island nation. The school celebrates world events such as the Winter Olympics, Olympic and Para-Olympic Games, the World Cup, and the Commonwealth Games, etc. Through our work with the Comenius Project, each of our classes has learned about our European partner’s geography, history, and culture. The children are taught how to cook a couple of traditional dishes in their Food Technology lessons. Within History, the pupils study Ancient Civilisations, they learn about Democracy, the school follows democratic procedure annually when voting for school councilors and playground mentors. The children at Leamington are actively encouraged to be aware of what is happening within our country and worldwide. They work hard to understand their role in our community and can discuss current affairs confidently whilst developing a social conscience. The school undertakes assemblies that uphold traditional values of empathy, respect, and tolerance. These are also taught within formal PSHE and RE lessons and on an informal nature throughout the school days. At Leamington Primary we aim to ensure our children have a positive impact on their society. We are developing our children to be the next citizens of a local, national and global society. Our reading scheme at Leamington contains a wide variety of different books from different publishers. The books are color-coded at Foundation Level up to Diamond level which is suitable for upper Key Stage 2 or advanced readers. The attached book banding sheets will give you an indication of where your child is in this progression. The bands are used as an approximate estimate given the range of material we use in the school. Everyone at Leamington is working towards the Liverpool Counts Quality Mark. This is an exciting project to promote positive attitudes to maths not just in our school but as an essential life skill. We will be focusing on new and exciting ways to help encourage children to make links and use maths in their everyday lives.
