- At Byron Court, we have a motto that underpins what we intrinsically believe of all our children: ‘Believe it Achieve it!’ This means that we want to ensure that all children are given opportunities to develop their full potential and that the inspiring, broad, and balanced learning experiences they have at school will build lasting memories, inner confidence, and the ability to make a positive contribution to our society. We believe that we have personal and shared responsibilities to be the best we can be and that working together with governors, staff, pupils, their families, and our neighbors we can achieve the goals we set ourselves. Byron Court has been a popular school since 1932 and you will see in our guest book that past pupils still retain fond memories of their experiences and our neighbors are proud to have been either educated at the school themselves or have enjoyed watching their children and grand-children grow and develop at Byron Court. Byron Court was judged to be an outstanding school by Ofsted in 2012 and has since been awarded Teaching School status in March 2014, which reiterates that the school continues to deliver outstanding provision for its pupils in addition to providing teacher training, continued professional development to teachers and support to other schools through sharing good practice. We currently have 680 pupils at our school, some of whom are located at our temporary off-site provision in Ashley Gardens, which accommodates a Year 1 Class. The school will be submitting plans for a permanent expansion to 5 forms of entry. The demand for school places across much of the country means that a large majority of schools are expanding and the governors and staff of Byron Court believe that it is vitally important that all children have a right to be educated at a good or better school. Inspire enthusiasm for learning Provide opportunities to reach our potential Work together to achieve our best Make a positive contribution to our community Build lasting memories We are an inclusive school where pupils, parents, staff, governors, the L.A., and local services work in partnership to meet the needs of the community. We celebrate the positive contribution made by different social, ethnic, and linguistic groups. Byron Court Primary is committed to ensuring that everyone traveling to and from the school can do so as safely as possible. We encourage those traveling to the site to use environmentally friendly modes of transport and to be aware of the needs of those living near the school. We believe this contributes to the health, safety, and developing independence of pupils and good relationships with our neighbors. The School wishes to give all children a sense of self-discipline, care for the environment, and a tolerance and respect for others, both within the School and the wider community. Children are assessed continuously in Maths, English, Science, Computing, and Spanish. All pupils are regularly assessed using teacher assessment based on the new National Curriculum statutory requirement criteria, which is based on age-related expectations. Children’s progress is monitored and analyzed termly by the class teacher and Senior Leadership team. During these meetings, any additional interventions are identified and subsequently delivered to meet the individual needs of every child in our school. In the Spring term targets are set in English and Maths and shared with each pupil in a one-to-one meeting and later with the parents at parent’s evening. In the Summer term, children in Years 2,3,4,5 & 6 are formally tested, the results are used to inform final teacher assessments for the year: this indicates if pupils are on track to achieve age-related expectations. The national requirement is that 80% of children should be working at this level or above by the time they reach Secondary school. View full school
- Our Mission To provide a nurturing, creative, and academic education inspired by the indications of Rudolf Steiner for a healthy social life and the developing human being. Our Vision To enable each individual to realize their potential to be self-aware, resourceful, and resilient, with the empathy, skills, and initiative to make a positive contribution to the world. The Class Three children have been busy building a beautiful little shop outside their classroom. This project has been a delight to watch over the last few weeks. I am looking forward to seeing some excellent trading happening once the shop is up and running. The food gardens across the school are looking fabulous. Between Evan in the primary school and Pete Palmer in the High School, our students are wonderfully supported as they develop the gardens, tend the plants, and harvest the produce. Class 5 and 6 have been hard at work on the beautiful mosaic project down in the amphitheater. The wall is filling with beautiful plants and animals, and the project is progressing beautifully with the skillful guidance of Tanja Nelson and a small team of dedicated parents. In both the Primary and High Schools, our learning support teachers (Marlis and Gael) have been doing some excellent work with students, teachers, and families to ensure our students have the best possible opportunity to learn and develop right across the learning spectrum. Meanwhile, in Admin, Yvette, our Enrolments Officer, has just started the enrolment process for Kindergarten in 2019. This is never an easy task as we know we will not offer places to everyone who wants to come. Yvette works hard to ensure our process is straightforward, fair, and transparent to all involved. From the ‘little things’ to the enormous thing happening in our school at the moment……. our building is tracking well to be finished and open early next term. Our architect, Michael Leung and his team, and builder, Glen Field, are doing an excellent job, and we are excited about welcoming our community into the new building soon. A huge thank you to those who have donated to our building fund so far. As you are undoubtedly aware, we are fundraising to build a covered walkway into the school between the new building and the performance hall. We desperately need a sheltered space at the school entrance, which will fill that need. Thus far, we have fundraised about half of the money needed – we are still approximately $15,000 short of the total needed to complete the project. Donations to our building fund are tax-deductible, and you can find the link to donate later in this bulletin. Please help us to complete this vital project – any donation at all is very much appreciated.

- Byron College was established in 1986 by a group of idealistic parents and teachers. They believed that there was a need for a school in Athens that would provide a British Education that was egalitarian and inclusive and would pursue academic excellence while maintaining the highest standards of self-discipline, behavior, and community participation. The pupil body is now just over 400 and is divided relatively equally between Primary and Secondary pupils. These pupils come from over 50 different national backgrounds, but about half of our children are permanent residents of Greece. The language of instruction is English, and pupils follow a program of study that is necessarily based on the UK National Curriculum. Given the nature of our pupil body, we have a secure EAL section, attention is paid to the needs of our Greek parents, a range of modern languages is offered, and the History and Geography syllabuses are designed to reflect the international character of our pupils and the obligation to produce citizens with an awareness of global challenges that our society faces. Byron College is one School on one side, and all children share the same day and the same school holidays. The School accepts children from the age of 3, and many stay with us until they leave to study at university, aged 18. During their time with us, pupils from Nursery to Year 9 will follow a broad-based curriculum based on the UK Key Stage modal and in Year 10 will begin a 2-year cycle of study leading to the sitting of IGCSE exams in Year 11. Our Sixth Formers (Years 12 and 13) are prepared for university and college entrance through the dedicated teaching of AS and A-Level GCE subjects. Part of the School's unique character is that children across a range of ages can mix safely together to be involved in the joint activity. Our senior pupils can develop a sense of responsibility toward the young alongside their obligation to be community leaders and positive, healthy role models. Formal qualifications are obtained at the School via the following examination bodies. International General Certificate of Secondary Education (Years 10 and 11). AS and A-Level General Certificate of Education Exams (Years 12 and 13). These qualifications are awarded by the University of Cambridge International Examinations Board. Byron pupils can also enter for the exams conducted by the Greek Ministry, Ellinomathia. Byron College is the leading School in Athens founded on the British tradition of academic excellence while embracing a global perspective. As we grow, we continue to welcome pupils from a diverse and enriching range of cultures and backgrounds. We are consistent in our efforts to discover the talents inherent in every child, inspire creativity, and encourage individuality. Our highly qualified staff is dedicated to building confidence in our pupils by celebrating their many accomplishments and maximizing their potential. Byron pupils - past and present - are a living testimony to our successes individuals who benefit their community, society, and the world of tomorrow. We are a vibrant element of the community. Our pupils act as ambassadors who uphold and promote our altruistic philosophy and environmental commitment while striving to build bridges among cultures. In the spirit of Lord Byron, Byron College is bold, egalitarian, boundary challenging, and adventurous. Byron College is a British international school in the northern suburbs of Athens comprising pupils from diverse cultural backgrounds. Our pupils have inspired learners who develop into responsible, confident, motivated young adults. We aim: To maintain high expectations from our staff and pupils To instill a robust set of moral values To engage the future through evolving technologies and innovations in education To sustain the positive sense of a caring community while the School develops. To enhance the range of academic opportunities as facilities and departments continue to develop To continue being a powerful, positive voice in the local community and in a broader national and international context, sentiments founded on our appreciation of the country we live in To foster an environmental conscience To generate an atmosphere of mutual respect. We promise to continuously reflect upon our School, adapting and changing for an even better future.
