About Me

  1. Holy Family School is a Voluntary Aided Catholic Primary school, administered jointly by the Archdiocese of Cardiff and Cardiff County Council LEA. The school character, daily life, and religious teaching are founded in the Catholic Faith. Holy Family is a co-educational day school and is a designated Primary School. Our school is situated in a pleasant open setting, with large grounds in Fairwater, Cardiff. The building is modern in its design with two separate buildings, one housing the main body of the school, the other housing the computer suite and the Foundation Phase. The school was opened in September 1966 under the trusteeship of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cardiff. The school is maintained by the LEA. Parents who are considering sending their children to the school should contact the Headteacher in the first instance. A mutually convenient time will be arranged to visit the school. As a Catholic family, we welcome all and value Christ in everyone, whilst seeking the highest possible achievements. To achieve this the school will:- Recognize that Christ is in and around us and celebrate His love through prayer and worship Develop our learning skills to ensure each child reaches their full potential and to recognize and rejoice in the talents of others. Promote strong links between home, school, parish, and community. Value and respect the uniqueness of each individual. Ensure that Holy Family School is a place where everyone is respected and cherished. Our school is committed to working towards race, gender, and disability equality, and to the creation of an inclusive culture in which every individual, regardless of ability and background, is enabled to participate and is valued as a member of our school community. We, therefore, promote positive approaches to difference and foster respect for people of all cultural backgrounds. Our school is opposed to all forms of prejudice and discrimination, whether based on race, gender, disability, or social circumstances. We will not tolerate and will challenge any language or behavior that is racist, sexist, or potentially damaging to any group. Stereotyped ways of thinking are the result of ignorance and may result in low self-esteem and limited aspirations. The school values and encourages the involvement of people from all sections of the local community, and through this involvement aims to provide positive images, which challenge stereotyped thinking

  3. Holy Family Catholic School and Sixth Form, formerly known as the Holy Family Technology College, is a very popular mixed secondary school with around 1150 students aged 11-19. The school’s Catholic ethos underpins all that we do and forms the basis of the Holy Family Way. We are a member of the Federation of Catholic Schools of Waltham Forest and work closely with our feeder primary schools to provide the best possible Catholic education for all our young people. We aim to educate the whole person, to develop each student’s academic potential as well as nurturing their creativity, spirituality, character, and resilience. Most of our students spend seven years with us, leaving the sixth form to start their degree courses at university, or to begin high-quality employment. We seek to instill in each of our students the belief that they should have a strong concern for others and that they should seek to do good in their school and their wider community. The school has very close partnerships with our parishes and with parents (including through an active PTA) all of which helps to reinforce this Catholic. In school, there is a very great emphasis on extra-curricular activities and all students are offered every opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills through after-school clubs in an array of different fields including sport, music, and drama. The achievements of our students and staff were highly praised in our most recent Ofsted report and the school has won numerous awards for the quality of academic outcomes we achieve. The following extract from that report summarises the main points in our Ofsted report of 2014: “Pupils’ and students’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is a strong feature of the school’s work. This contributes hugely to the sustained good results at the end of Year 11 and to mature young people in the sixth form. Teaching over time is mostly good and some of it is outstanding. It is underpinned by a strong approach through which teachers and students share a love of learning and this secures good progress for all learners. Senior leaders, staff, and governors are committed to the common goal of providing high-quality education. Pupils behave well, underpinned by a common approach which stresses responsibility and kindness towards others as well as towards oneself.” We are fortunate to have a thriving sixth form and from September 2015 this will be housed in brand new accommodation. We accept applications to our sixth form from our own Yr 11 students and also from students from other schools across the borough and beyond, who would like to experience their sixth form education in a school-based sixth form with a Catholic ethos. “An ethos is a way of living, behaving and doing things by people, though diverse, follow common values and are united by a shared vision of life.” (Monsignor Stack 2013). We are a Catholic school and daily prayer and worship are integral to all that we do. We provide a range of opportunities for this. Staff briefings every morning begin with a prayer/reflection. Registration includes prayer and every lesson is expected to begin or end with a prayer. We offer staff and students the opportunity to attend Mass weekly on each site. At other times of the year, we celebrate Mass in school, at the Our Lady and St George’s church. Once a year the entire school community gathers together at the Assembly Hall, the only time all 1,250 members of the school community can be in one place together. There are opportunities for students to receive the sacrament of reconciliation during Advent and Lent. Clergy from the local deanery and beyond make themselves available to hear confessions and on occasions, we have had ten priests in the hall administering the sacrament. It is important to note that the ethos permeates all aspects of school life “The curriculum as a whole, and every part of it is religious since there is nothing which does not ultimately relate to God.”(Evaluating the Distinctive Nature of the Catholic school).

  5. Holy Family Catholic School is situated to the South of Birmingham City Centre. The school is located next to Holy Family Catholic Church in Oldknow Road which is just off the main Coventry Road (A45) near Heybarnes Island. We are on the 60 bus route and within walking distance of Small Heath Train Station. We are a Catholic school serving the diverse community of Small Heath since 1904. The children who attend our school come from the immediate community and beyond. Gospel values are at the heart of our school but we celebrate diversity with many of our children coming from many different backgrounds and faiths. We are a one form entry school with around 250 pupils on roll. The majority of our children speak English as an additional language but progress well throughout the school. Parents provide wonderful support, working in partnership with the school to create a learning team around each child. We are a happy school blessed with a loyal and dedicated team of staff and governors who nurture and develop in our children the knowledge, skills, and understanding of the diverse world in which they live. We are confident that we provide a secure and happy learning environment and a curriculum which meets the needs of all learners. As God's family, we work together as brothers and sisters in a safe, happy and compassionate environment. We take pride in everything we do to ensure that our children are motivated to achieve and be the very best they can be. Built on the foundation of Christ and through the teaching of Gospel values, we develop the whole child in a setting that has an understanding and appreciation of all faiths. Inspired by Pope Francis we endeavor to 'light a fire in the hearts of our children, empowering them to make a real difference in our diverse, ever-changing society. It's reinforced in the schools we have quite a several Muslim children in the little school of the Holy Family, because demographically that's where the Muslims live and they come along, and again, the children share in the prayers. They get on well. The mission is really to be a presence here a catholic presence to draw people together - it'll be a shrinking presence to some extent because the old community is dying off. But hopefully, the blend of the different peoples will make the community a richer place." Holy Family is truly a special place where we celebrate cultural diversity, children from different faiths and backgrounds come together to 'live, love, and learn together in the light of God.' We are a small community family we take enormous pride in knowing all of our children very well and are fully committed to ensuring that each child is offered the finest start to their education in a warm, caring, and loving environment. Every child is welcomed and valued as a unique member of God's family and values taught through the Gospels are central to what we do in Holy Family. We have extremely high expectations and all our staff is committed to providing stimulating, exciting learning environments in which our children thrive in. We aim to provide a rich, diverse curriculum that develops our children morally, socially as well as academically. Children leave Holy Family as aspirational, responsible young people ready to make positive contributions to the wider communities in which they live. We are proud of the partnership that we have between home, school, and parish to provide the very best education that we can for the children in our care. We have excellent relationships with our current parents and are keen to build on existing links to further benefit the education of the children in our family.

  9. When it comes to education, we all want what is best for our children. Deciding what is best, however, can be a demanding and high-pressure task. After all, the seven years your child spends in primary school will play a pivotal role in forming their character and future. This is a time when their talents and interests will be developed. Holy Family Primary school has undergone significant changes over the last ten years. Over the past year or so, inspiring and committed teachers, pre-school and long day-care centers onsite, a before and after school care, and a vacation program. A massive school building program has enabled Holy Family Primary school to flourish. The school complements the work of parents to promote the personal care and development of each student. Emphasis is placed on relating well with others, being considerate, and contributing as a team's successful member. Leadership is fostered through a peer support program and a senior leadership program. All children also learn the importance of acting responsibly and showing respect for one another and the environment in which they live. Our school in Years 4, 5, and 6 thrive through implementing a 1:1 iPad program. The school offers opportunities for active participation in sports to suit every interest and talent. Morning fitness, inter-school competitions, carnivals, a whole school gymnastics, dance, and swimming program, are all encouraged. Holy Family School is a place that is continually adapting to the changing needs of young people and their world. It is a place where all students can discover who they are and develop the self-confidence to take on new challenges. We are a school where students do not have to fit in because the school fits around them. Our commitment is to unlock every individual student's talents and help them on their way to a lifetime of self-discovery and fulfillment. Holy Family Primary School was opened in 1985 and is situated in Castleton Crescent Gowrie, in the Parish of Corpus Christi. There are three primary schools within the parish. Our sister schools are St Francis of Assisi, located in Calwell, and St Clare of Assisi, Conder. St Mary MacKillop College (Years 7-12) in Waniassa and Isabella Plains enables parents a Catholic high school education for their children. The Parish of Corpus Christi was formed in 2005 when the parishes of Holy Family Gowrie and St Francis of Assisi Calwell were amalgamated. In 2009, the first Catholic pre-school began operation - the Holy Family Early Learning & Care Centre. We grew to 4 classes in 2018 with 100 children. Students from Pre-school to Year 6, who attend the school, primarily come from the suburbs of Chisholm, Fadden, Gilmore, Gowrie, Isabella Plains, Macarthur, and Richardson. Students also live in Jerrabomberra NSW and the rural estate of Burra and Googong. The school has a multicultural population of approximately 660 students (K - Yr 6) and 90 pre-school students. The Presentation Sisters from Wagga Wagga established the school under the dedicated leadership of Sister Audrey Pilgrim. Holy Family quickly fostered a sense of strong community with close relationships developed between parish and school; the school motto, 'Open the Doors to the Redeemer,' epitomizes the ideals of the school and parish communities, and their approach towards making Jesus Christ accessible and relevant to the students who attend the school. The image of the Holy Family represents the notion of community, which is fostered by the members of the school and parish.
