  1. Education, like other areas of modern life, is at an exciting point in its history. The future that we are preparing our young people for is dynamic and ever-changing. What skills, attributes, and values do our young people need to develop to graduate successfully into the world around them. Our Mission as a college is to provide a caring and holistic education from Prep to Year 12 based on the gospel of Jesus Christ. In this ever-changing world, we see that the core values of integrity, excellence, service, care, and self-discipline form the building blocks for a successful and purposeful life. With our approach to excellence in teaching and learning, our extensive co-curricular offerings, and our heart for community service, we seek to inspire students to be curious about their learning, be courageous and innovative in meeting challenges, and Christ led in their relationships. Our Mission Redeemer Lutheran College provides a caring and holistic Prep to Year 12 education based on the gospel of Jesus Christ. Redeemer Lutheran College desires that: our hope will inspire our students, staff, and families in Christ Jesus our students will be well equipped for life-long learning our students will make positive contributions within their communities of family, church, work, and society families and friends of the College will partner with Redeemer in its Mission of education and care. Redeemer Lutheran College, located on Brisbane and Logan cities' border, draws its 1,040 students from a wide area including Redlands, Brisbane, and south to Beenleigh. A co-educational P-12 school of the Lutheran Church of Australia, Queensland District, Redeemer offers a holistic education with a clear expression of the Christian faith in which all College relationships and practices are shaped and informed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ. A chaplaincy and counseling team provides valuable support. As students progress through Redeemer, they are encouraged to be actively involved in the school's worship life. They are also given opportunities to be involved in service activities and to develop their social conscience. The Junior School caters to students in Prep to Year 6 and is a place of energy, activity, and exciting opportunities. Not only do teachers provide learning that is fun and engaging in the classroom, but students also enjoy many educational experiences outside the classroom. The campus is designed to offer each child a happy, secure, caring, creative, and nurturing environment where students will have the opportunity to grow and develop holistically. The Senior School caters to students in Years 7 to 12 with two distinct programs: the Middle Years from Years 7 to 9 and the Senior Years from Years 10 to 12. The Senior School is a vibrant learning environment that prepares students for life in all of its shapes. House Leaders and Home Group teachers oversee students' spiritual, academic, emotional, and social development. The House system also is the basis of much friendly rivalry. Houses compete for the House Cup awarded annually to the House, which has been the most successful in various events, including sporting and other events. The Middle Years Program (Years 7 to 9) provides a pathway for students from the prior years to the senior secondary years, which recognizes the need for age-relevant, academic, and pastoral care learning opportunities that allow pre and early teens to progress with confidence, knowing that they are safe and understood. The Middle Years Program has a distinct identity in sub-school culture and an identifiable sub-school space. A highlight of the Middle Years program is the four-week outdoor education program for Year 9 students. This program is designed to foster skills and personal growth, not to be achieved in a classroom. The Senior Years (Years 10 to 12) provides students with various paths to study further and careers and equip them for lifelong learning. Redeemer is committed to academic excellence with core and elective subjects catering to students' interests and ambitions. Students may embark on a rigorous academic program that prepares them for higher education learning, or they may access an alternative pathway that includes school-based apprenticeships and traineeships combined with Certificate courses offered by TAFE and other outside providers. Extension opportunities are also available through studying University subjects in Year 12. Careers education is provided to assist students as they choose subjects and explore their post-school options. The co-curricular program is extensive and is further evidence of Redeemer's holistic approach providing opportunities for students to develop academically, socially, spiritually, physically, and creatively. Students are encouraged to compete in a range of team sports (GBC interschool competitions) and carnivals. Students interested in music choose medal-winning ensembles as part of the co-curricular music program and a chance to continue Redeemer's satisfactory history of regional eisteddfod successes. Students may also choose to participate in the biennial college musical. QDU and QDU Round Robin's debating appeals to many students and clubs such as drama, chess, photography, amnesty, art, and Christian dance allow students to develop their creative interests. In the Senior School, student committees, including Christian Life, Cultural, Community Service, Academic, Environmental, School Spirit, Sporting, and Student Council, allow young people to develop their leadership skills.
  2. The school seeks to create a learning environment that is thoughtful, free, sharing, and respectful, rather than competitive, self-serving, and fearful. This provides for the development of an authentic community. The school also seeks to encourage and strengthen Christian families and those families who wish to share the life of the school. Redeemer Baptist School offers a comprehensive range of academic subjects and activities for all ages. The school has consistently obtained high academic achievements in the Higher School Certificate (HSC) and many other State and National competitions. The school is recognized for its clear expectations in teaching and learning. It has a strong focus on its K–12 literacy program using the WRAP—Writing Approach to Reading—instruction method. Redeemer Baptist School, along with other schools and personnel, has been instrumental in introducing this WRAP program to staff in Queensland, NSW, Victoria, SA, and the NT. Senior school students are offered a full range of subject selections, including higher-level subjects such as Mathematics—Extension 2. A particular language program is also provided for students of non-English speaking backgrounds. The school's camping program provides an excellent opportunity for students to experience a range of adventures—canoeing, hiking, swimming—and being challenged in their values and beliefs. The Hills Regional Skills Centre, at our Castle Hill campus, is a Registered Training Organisation providing a Vocational Education program for senior students. The Hills Regional Skills Centre is a cross-sectoral education facility and, as such, is designed to serve Government and Non-government schools alike. Courses offered are Construction Information, Digital Media and Technology Hospitality and Business. While employing a balanced approach to learning with technology, Redeemer Baptist School has pioneered developments within the Design and Technology course, winning many awards. From 1996 - 2008, the school has won State and regional awards in the NSW "Minister's Young Designers Awards" competition. In 2010, a Redeemer student won the Powerhouse Museum award for innovation and design. The school has also gained an excellent reputation in Music and Drama.

Our school is the only primary school in the Barossa structured entirely in single grades, and we have two classes at each year level. As part of Redeemer’s commitment to best-practice teaching, we do not use multi-age or hybrid classes. Our classroom teaching staff are supported by specialist teaching staff in Physical Education Science, Engineering and Technology Library Learning Enrichment Wellbeing Japanese and Performance Arts. All our specialist programs have been carefully designed to ensure that we develop the whole child and cater to 21st Century learners. Our Early Learning Centre welcomes children from 3½ years of age up to 5; they can begin Reception At Redeemer. We pride ourselves on providing students with a smooth transition to school through visits to our primary school and accessing school facilities during the week. Our ELC program is underpinned by the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (IB PYP) and based on the Reggio Emilia philosophy and aligning with the national Early Years Learning Framework, ‘Belonging, Being, Becoming.’ Our program is specifically designed to provide outstanding learning opportunities, emphasizing play-based learning and the communication, social and emotional development this facilitates.
  4. The first thoughts of a Lutheran Primary School begun with a conversation between Merv Harch and Pastor L Otto in approximately 1967 when they were clearing the allotment after moving Trinity Church from Kroombit Street in Biloela to Theodore. It was suggested that a Kindergarten be started with the allotment vacant, but this idea was rejected because the Government was taking Kindergartens over. It was then that the Primary School was suggested. The idea of a Lutheran Primary School in Biloela was openly discussed for a long time. Merv Harch recalled, “It was hard to get the congregation interested as a whole, and it was not until Bob Maczkowiack, and his wife Anne came to join the congregation that things started to go ahead. They were both very interested and sought information wherever possible, including going south to various schools to get firsthand information.”
  5. We are an undergraduate university known for providing a quality liberal arts and sciences university education and fostering a spiritually vibrant and caring community of learning on a beautiful and environmentally friendly campus. We are also recognized for the scholarship and creative activity of our qualified faculty and the exciting and engaging academic, artistic, athletic, musical, and theatrical events that we sponsor as part of our mission of Christ-centered teaching, research, and service the broader community. Our academic programs in the fine arts, humanities, sciences, social sciences, and business and teacher education are taught in the context of a commitment to a comprehensive vision of Christ’s lordship and redemptive work. We seek to give expression to this commitment in all the programs and support services of the university. Small classes and a low student-faculty ratio allow students to be mentored by faculty. Experiential and cooperative education programs enrich the educational experience, while off-campus programs allow students to experience different cultures. Professional and dedicated staff encourage student development in a variety of co-curricular programs. Redeemer University College is a Christian undergraduate university offering programs leading to Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Education degrees. From its Hamilton, Ontario campus, Redeemer has prepared to graduate classes — the next generation of Christian leaders — for more than 35 years. Redeemer students are being shaped by the Reformed Christian commitment to see faith woven through learning and life. From the classroom to the convocation stage to careers and churches, our faculty, students, and alumni make an impact that resounds in our culture and across the world. Our academic programs in the fine arts, humanities, sciences, and social sciences, as well as in business and teacher education, are taught in the context of a commitment to a comprehensive vision of Christ’s lordship and redemptive work. The mission of Redeemer University College is: To offer university-level liberal arts and science education which is Scripturally directed and explores the relation of faith, learning, and living from a Reformed Christian perspective To support research and creative endeavor in this context. To advance knowledge through excellence in teaching and scholarship To be an academic community in which faculty, staff, and students can develop intellectually, socially and spiritually To equip students for lives of leadership and service under the Lordship of Jesus Christ To reach out through academic service to society Moreover, in all these things to glorify God. To be internationally engaged as an excellent liberal arts and sciences university that is unabashedly Christ-centred and prepares students to reflect a distinctive worldview in any vocation and place they are called. The institution's overall purpose is to equip students to fulfill their callings in the Kingdom of God by providing them with a post-secondary education grounded in Scripture. Such a Christian education will enable students: to discern the biblical basis of a Christian worldview, to translate this worldview into a systematic framework for academic work, to acquire an understanding of the profoundly religious nature of the cultural formation, to acquire a historical awareness of the conflicting spiritual roots of contemporary culture, and to apply and develop these insights in the various liberal arts and science and an area of disciplinary specialization. Such an education will strengthen students’ commitment to the Christian faith, and better prepare them to exercise their God-given talents and abilities in the full range of life’s callings and vocations. Students will be enabled to understand the times in which they live and the direction in which their society is headed and to strive for the furtherance of the Lordship of Christ in a life of service to God and their neighbor. Students should develop a well-informed and critical awareness of the main features of contemporary Canadian society, and be able to relate their academic studies to a future vocation of Christian service. The Cross and Our Calling was initially written in 2003 to give fuller expression to Redeemer’s religious identity and founding vision as a Reformed Christian institution seeking to serve the broader Christian community. This document builds on the other supporting and official documents of the university, such as the Statement of Basis and Principles, the Educational Guidelines.
