We respect allopathic medicine's role and prepare our students to work side-by-side with healthcare providers from all disciplines. We believe in the power of community. This is a fundamental part of the MUIH experience, and it is evident both on campus and when you engage with us virtually. Just as a patient and practitioner form a mutually rewarding relationship on the path toward healing, our faculty and students learn from each other and develop lasting bonds that support a sense of interconnection and unity. 2. MICA has become the leader in the education of artists and designers by fostering a community of talented, creative individuals committed to redefining the boundaries of art and design and to expanding their own vision and perspective through rigorous study. Our innovative curriculum, well-equipped campus, and world-class faculty all have a single purpose: provide the education, experiences, and resources needed to prepare the artist and designers who will lead in the 21st century. The entire MICA community—alumni, faculty, parents, staff, students, and trustees—were engaged in rearticulating our Mission and Vision Statements, and generating the philosophy underpinning them and the new Tenets. The inclusive process involved convenings, small group discussions, open surveys, and individual conversations. We also sought input from external stakeholders in various fields. The steering committee was co-led by the president and chair of the Faculty Executive Committee. This full engagement has ensured that the outcomes are thoughtful and, importantly, an authentic reflection of MICA as we are today and what we aspire to be going forward. The Mission statement expresses MICA's fundamental rationale for existence, while the Vision statement describes the long-range change that inspires our Mission. The Tenets undergird MICA's culture, personality and actions. Our Mission is to EMPOWER students to forge creative, purposeful lives and careers in a diverse and changing world. 6. Notre Dame of Maryland University's education approach has prepared thousands of high performers and instigators of social change for more than a century. We are consistently responsive to the needs of a student body hungry to learn and a world hungry for knowledgeable, compassionate leaders. NDMU embodies the pioneering educational tradition and social justice mission that spurred the College of Notre Dame to welcome the first class of women pursuing a four-year baccalaureate degree in 1895. We offer Maryland's only women's college, as well as certificate, undergraduate, graduate, and Ph.D. programs for women and men. Our transformative educational model will help prepare you for leadership and success. We transform women and men into leaders who change the world. With more than 100 years' experience providing an innovative Catholic education grounded in mindfulness of the world around us, we promote intellectual and professional excellence in tandem with others' service. Notre Dame of Maryland University educates leaders to transform the world. Embracing the founders' vision, the School Sisters of Notre Dame, the University promotes the advancement of women and provides a liberal arts education in the Catholic tradition. We were the first Catholic college for women in America to offer the rigorous four-year education men already received. Our founders, the School Sisters of Notre Dame, brought their internationally renowned teaching skills to Baltimore in 1847. Since then, over 22,000 graduates have carried the Sisters' values of truth, integrity, and intellectual inquiry into the world. Though grounded in tradition, Notre Dame continues to respond to changes in education and society. While the Women's College still offers the benefits of focused, single-sex education, we meet the needs of adult women and men with career-focused undergraduate and graduate programs designed around their real-life schedules. Whether your passion is NASA or nursing, you will find a Notre Dame graduate at the top of the field. Our Women's College graduates excel in male-dominated sectors such as science and engineering. In our adult studies, men and women also serve in the military, improve educational policy, write books, start nonprofits, improve their communities, and, everywhere, lead. Institutional Effectiveness at NDMU is a process that results from University-wide efforts to collect, analyze, and use data for the planning, implementation, and assessment of strategic goals to reflect on its past and commit to its future. Our low faculty-to-student ratio means that our students work closely, often side-by-side, with their professors. The result is that they carry out significant research projects and publish their work, even as undergraduates. Notre Dame Maryland University provides a balanced, career-focused education in a thriving intellectual community. With nearly 80 programs and caring, expert faculty, we help women and men gain the knowledge they need to create real and meaningful change. Today's students celebrate many of the same traditions introduced generations ago. Every autumn, the campus community comes together as incoming students recite the Honor Pledge in the presence of family, friends, faculty members, and the administration. On Notre Dame Day, students are recognized for their commitment to service and academic achievement. One hundred nights before their graduation, Women's College seniors come together to reflect on their undergraduate experiences and anticipate commencement excitement. The School Sisters of Notre Dame remain at the heart of campus life as educators, administrators, colleagues, and mentors. Discover a transformative education at Notre Dame of Maryland University Online. We prepare men and women to become compassionate and transformational leaders. Achieve your educational goals at a price you can afford with the online programs of Notre Dame of Maryland University. Competitively priced tuition and financial aid resources can help you feel comfortable taking the next step in reaching your goals. The story of Notre Dame begins with a journey from Germany. In the summer of 1847, Mother Mary Theresa of Jesus Gerhardinger, foundress of the SSNDs, traveled to America with five sisters on a mission to educate those neglected by society — poor girls and women. Soon the SSNDs were teaching in four schools, including three in downtown Baltimore. By 1871 the sisters selected a beautiful 33-acre site in North Baltimore that would accommodate its burgeoning student populations and future expansion. In 1873, Notre Dame of Maryland Collegiate Institute, educating elementary and high school-aged girls, opened on Charles Street, where the present University is located today. As the turn of the century neared, the SSNDs had developed an international reputation for their teaching quality and rigor. For more than a century, Notre Dame's 22,000 alumnae and alumni have gone on to lead extraordinary lives of service and achievement. They have built buildings and families, made scientific discoveries, run for office and in marathons, become military leaders and SSNDs, served as CEOs and in soup kitchens. Their lives prove time and again the powerful legacy of the founding SSNDs, whose mission remains: Transforming the world through education.
  7. UMUC was founded in 1947 as the College of Special and Continuation Studies, a branch of the University of Maryland's College of Education, with locations in College Park and around the state. In 1949, UMUC was the first university to send faculty overseas to educate active-duty military personnel in Europe. University of Maryland University College. Two "universities" and a "college" … what's up with that? Well, it may be a mouthful, but our name has a special meaning, and there's the history behind it. The "University of Maryland" part signifies that we are part of the University System of Maryland. "University College" is a British term that captures what we do: Take courses and programs from all academic departments and offer them outside of the university's walls and regular class times. Today, although our name may not make sense when you first hear it, we are proud of the mission it signifies and what we have been doing for more than 65 years. UMUC's Core Values reflect our central and enduring tenets—a set of principles to guide institutional and individual professional behaviors. At UMUC, the way we do things is as important as the things we do. At the University of Maryland University College, students come first in everything we do. We are a university designed around the needs of busy professionals. We understand that you'll be balancing work and family life with your education. We know that pursuing your degree will be an investment both of your time and your finances. That's why UMUC strives to make earning your degree as convenient, flexible, and affordable as possible. You won't have to wait for graduation to start seeing the impact of your education. At UMUC, we specialize in helping students like you gain knowledge to increase your professional value, giving you the confidence you need to move your career forward. It starts with your very first class. And as one of the largest public universities in the country, we are proud to have an expansive network of accomplished alumni. UMUC keeps its undergraduate and graduates tuition rates affordable so your military benefits can go farther. We offer a unique undergraduate military quality for active-duty military service members and members of the National Guard and Reserves, so Tuition Assistance covers up to 100 percent of tuition. Plus, we've outlined a straightforward process for you to get started on your education, whether you're in the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines, National Guard, Navy, or Reserves. UMUC designates scholarships for active-duty military, veterans, and military spouses and families. University of Maryland University College offers undergraduate and graduate students a wide range of merit- and need-based scholarships, many of which are explicitly stated for military personnel, veterans, spouses, and family members. UMUC-administered scholarships are available to current students based on merit and financial need and earned through our foundational scholarship process. If you meet the specific eligibility criteria for one or more of these scholarships, you will be sent an invitation to complete and submit an application form. The Office of Financial Aid then matches students with one or more scholarships that align with their specific criteria. Scholarships are awarded based on merit, financial need, military affiliation, study program, and many other considerations. Miyares has maintained a singular focus on quality, access, and affordability for Maryland's adult learners and members of the U.S. military around the world. The Maryland Completion Scholarship enables Maryland community college graduates to earn a bachelor's degree from UMUC for a total cost of $20,000—including their community college tuition. Through a partnership with Prince George's Community College and Prince George's County Public Schools, UMUC has also created the Prince George's 3D Scholarship pilot program that allows high-achieving students to earn college credit while still in high school and ultimately complete a bachelor's degree for $10,000 or less. Miyares has also committed his support to the university's evolving learning model, which focuses on personalized learning experience for students at scale, emphasizing competence, and confidence as students prepare to enter professional positions. Miyares worked closely with and received the University System of Maryland Board of Regents' unanimous approval in creating a new business model that serves to keep tuition low and allows for innovative approaches to fulfilling UMUC's public mission. UMUC Ventures, a nonprofit supporting organization, now serves as a holding company for commercial enterprises to provide the university with additional revenue streams. UMUC's online library is available 24/7 to students around the globe. Most printed materials can be mailed at no cost to students in the continental United States, or you can request electronic delivery for journal articles and book chapters. To access research databases and the library catalog or view tutorials on conducting research, visit the UMUC Library. Visitors should park in the garage at the intersection of University Boulevard, Adelphi Road, and Campus Drive. The University supports the Maryland State plan to develop a highly qualified workforce for the State's economic growth and vitality by serving as a focal point for the advanced training of elementary, junior, and senior high school teachers and students in marine sciences. As such, UMES is an ideal venue for field trips and instruction for the UMES/Salisbury University dual degree program in biology and environmental sciences. Coupled with the UMES MEES program are excellent facilities, which prepare post-secondary students for careers in research and public policy that support a sustainable harvest and conservation of the state's and nation's living marine resources. The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES), the State's Historically Black 1890 Land¬ Grant Institution, is a teaching, research, and doctoral institution that nurtures and launches leaders in a student-centered environment. Committed to providing high-quality programs in an ethnically diverse environment, the University prepares students who will serve and shape the global economy. UMES is a growing, primarily residential university with a mission focused on learning, discovery, and engagement. This is consistent with valuing the faculty's scholarship in discovering new knowledge and disseminating and applying it to the extended community. The University recognizes its responsibility for developing human potential, enriching cultural expressions, and sharing its expertise with individuals, businesses, educational, governmental, and non-governmental organizations. These aspirations are by UMES' legacy and mission as Maryland's 1890 Land-Grant Institution. Founded in 1886 under the United Methodist Church's aegis, UMES is proud of its long history of continuous educational service. One of the original purposes of the land-grant institutions, citizens' education for life in the American economy (then, mostly rural, but now more diverse), included agriculture and mechanical arts disciplines. UMES continues to embrace the original purposes and its current expansions to include the liberal arts, scientific, business, technological, and education and cooperative ventures with foreign universities, governmental and non¬ governmental organizations, and private industries. Through the University of Maryland Extension Service and the Agriculture Experiment Station, UMES works collaboratively with the University of Maryland College Park, the 1862 land-grant institution. The University's expanding instructional technology infrastructure supports the increasing externally funded research grants generated by campus personnel. Quick responses to the economic and educational needs of the region and the State characterize the role that the University plays. The Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) Program's provision of well-trained personnel for State and national tourism industry and faculty researchers' work related to conservation and use of natural resources, including water, plant, and animal diversity, exemplify this responsiveness. The Rural Development Center provides timely responses to businesses and government requests for financial, technical, managerial, organizational, and internet assistance. The seafood, poultry, and fresh produce initiatives help firms develop procedures that maximize the quality, safety, and profitability of food products through applied research, certified training, and educational materials. UMES engages in numerous collaborative efforts to (a) increase access and opportunity for a broad spectrum of students, including the economically and educationally disadvantaged, low¬ income adult learners, and first-generation college students and (b) to meet other state needs. Collaborative educational connections with local school systems address the Professional Development Schools, The Redesign of Teacher Education (including the PreK-16 initiative), and other programs. For instance, UMES and Salisbury University collaboratively operate the Master of Arts in Teaching, the dual degree in Sociology/Social Work, and Biology/Environmental Science Programs. UMES provides Special Education Programs, a teaching area of great State and national need, on the Eastern Shore at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The University also has the only Agricultural Education and Technology Education Programs in Maryland. Access to the Salisbury-Ocean City Airport allows the Engineering and Aviation Sciences programs to establish strong airport personnel links. 10. The Boys' Latin School of Maryland is the state's oldest independent, non-sectarian all-boys School. Students in kindergarten through 12th grade provide a rigorous, college-preparatory curriculum that focuses on building 21st-century skills and empowers each boy to achieve his true excellence. The Boys' Latin School of Maryland instills the core values of courage, integrity, and compassion in each boy as embodied in our motto, Esse Quam Videri (to be, rather than to seem). By understanding how boys learn best, our talented faculty fosters enduring personal relationships and empowers each student to strive for academic and personal excellence. Boys' Latin offers a rich and rigorous academic and co-curricular program that prepares young men for the 21st century's opportunities. The School welcomes students from diverse backgrounds and educates them in a supportive, student-centered environment. Boys' Latin is accredited by AIMS (Association of Independent Maryland & DC Schools) and a member of NAIS (National Association of Independent Schools) and IBSC (International Boys' Schools Coalition). As Maryland's oldest, independent and nonsectarian, college preparatory school for boys, Boys' Latin was founded on the belief in our motto Esse Quam Videri (To Be, Rather Than To Seem). More than 175 years later, each one of us - administrators, teachers, coaches, and students - continues to strive for and expect this TRUE EXCELLENCE from one another every day. Our collective success in this school-defining enterprise is evident in the corps of great men of character and talent who call themselves Lakers. Their life achievements have helped advance virtually every field and industry. One pioneered the use of penicillin. Another established one of our nation's most successful financial institutions. A recent graduate interned with NASA and is developing robotic devices, while another is determined to reinvent the hospitality industry. All are remarkable. It all started here. Much more vital than our facilities and student body changes is the national leadership role Boys' Latin assumes among independent schools. We have set standards for student academic self-confidence and emotional well-being, a model peer culture, and excellence in faculty support. Throughout our history, we have always known that our students come to our School with distinctive talents and differences in learning styles. We have always worked tirelessly to ensure developmentally-appropriate, culturally-attuned, and individually-tailored learning experiences for every boy since our beginnings - more than 170 years ago. Boys' Latin offers an environment like no other. Here, there is no one-size-fits-all program. Our students thrive in an environment where they have room to see where their academic curiosity takes them, flex their creative muscles, and discover talents they never suspected they even had. But perhaps what our boys value most of all: they become part of a unique lifelong brotherhood, exclusive in all the best senses of the word. Boys learn best by doing. That is why we focus on experiential, hands-on learning that appeals to different senses, involves action and movement, and produces tangible outcomes. A prime example is our trout release every spring. To learn about ecosystems, lower school students raise trout and then release their newly hatched babies into nearby Lake Roland waters. Boys' Latin approach to education is purposefully single-sex. Extensive research shows that boys learn differently from girls, and we know that boys learn best when their unique interests and distinctive talents are taken into account. Over almost 175 years, Boys' Latin has developed unparalleled expertise in creating a school community where boys thrive. At Boys' Latin, we honor how boys think and learn. We understand that boys need to know why something is important. In leveraging what motivates them, we prioritize developmentally-appropriate, hands-on experiential learning that appeals to different senses, involves action and movement, and produces tangible outcomes. Our educational programs are tailored to help boys gain confidence in their ability to learn and grow at their own pace in becoming men of character and values. They are taught, advised, and coached by faculty hired because they want to work with boys. With a student-faculty ratio of 7:1 and small class sizes, our School creates myriad opportunities for personal attention and individual interactions. Here, every boy is cherished and loved. Boys' Latin provides an atmosphere and tailored programming for boys to explore sensitive issues. In doing so, students here are not distracted as in traditional, co-educational environments by trying to live up to the gender stereotypes so prevalent in the media and society at large. Boys' Latin is committed to providing a stimulating, supportive and safe learning environment that encourages self-expression, respect for a wide range of interests and talents, and active participation in academics, the arts, athletics, and community service. Our students feel secure to take challenges and realize their boundless possibilities. View full school

And it's also about how your life and vision can impact your community and even change the world. View full university
  15. View full university

  17. To access the College Park Marriott Hotel & Conference Center, exit the visitor parking garage and walk to the right. To access the Administration Building, walk to the left! View full university

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore opened its doors Sept. 13, 1886, when it was known initially as the Delaware Conference Academy under the Methodist Episcopal Church's auspices. 19.
