  1. The Meiji University of Integrative Medicine, with the spirit of harmony, aims at developing truly commendable health care staff capable of contributing to medical services with a holistic viewpoint. The Meiji University of Integrative Medicine came into being as part of the parent organization, the educational corporation of Meiji Institute of Oriental Medicine, as Japan’s first three-year college of Acupuncture and Moxibustion in the central district of Kyoto Prefecture, rich in the natural environment, in 1978. In 1983, the college became a four-year University with its present name to meet the demands of society. Cultivating the humane health care workers of the patient-oriented medical services from a holistic viewpoint. In 1987, the University established Japan’s first affiliated Hospital, except for medicine and dentistry, for its clinical practice facilities and further deepened the relationship with modern medicine. It has since progressed as higher education and research institution for acupuncture and moxibustion. The University established the Faculty of Judo Seifuku Therapy, College of Medical Technology, Japan’s first higher education and research institution relating to Judo Seifuku, in 2002. It became the only Faculty of Judo Seifuku, School of Health Sciences and Medical Care for training Judo Seifuku students in Japan in 2004. Furthermore, it progressed to establish the Faculty of Nursing Science, School of Nursing Science, to make full use of the educational and research resources cultivated and accumulated by 2006. With the spirit of harmony, the quintessence of the university foundation spirit, we, the university staff, are determined to accomplish three forms of harmony: between man and man, between man and nature, and between the Orient and Occident, continually striving to integrate Oriental and Occidental Medicine from the holistic point of view and to produce genuinely commendable health care staff and personnel who are capable of contributing to medical services for the Japanese society and its people. Since its foundation, Meiji University of Integrative Medicine has been steadily achieving the aim of its foundation, namely “Creation of the Highest Institution of Learning for Oriental Medicine in Japan,” setting up affiliated facilities for education, research, and clinical medicine one by one, such as the Research Institute of Oriental Medicine, University Hospital, and the Clinic of Oriental Medicine in a well-planned manner. The three schools of Acupuncture and Moxibustion, Health Sciences and Medical Care, and Nursing Science, and the Graduate School of Acupuncture and Moxibustion with Doctorate and Masters Courses make it possible to construct a curriculum for nurturing high-grade clinical abilities and providing high-quality academic studies because they have a direct connection with these medical facilities, like the University mentioned above Hospital. The Graduate School of Acupuncture and Moxibustion aims at training human resources with high-degree learning, developed from the undergraduate course, and provides two courses: Clinical Course for the acquisition of advanced clinical abilities and inquiry into clinical possibilities (the first half of the doctoral course [masters course]) and the Research Course for the investigation and clarification of the effectiveness of Acupuncture and Moxibustion (the first half of the doctoral course [masters course] and the second half [doctoral course]). The learning environment is impeccable, including an affiliated library, allowing students to devote themselves to their studies and helping them answer questions and solve problems that they encounter in their daily learning and studies. Moreover, the number of teaching staff is incomparably outstanding and surpasses the expected ordinary standards. With its required substantial systems, the University organically integrates learning with research and makes every effort to meet various demands and needs. View full university

I have relished these twenty-plus years of adventure, which has so many exciting and fulfilling challenges. Young people should be full of vitality and momentum. You should strive hard and fight hard because this is your passion. Young people are allowed to make mistakes. Young people are not afraid of failure.
