  4. In this institution, we have the facilities and the means of imparting thorough university training. Our faculty is strong. Our plant is complete. Our scholarship is of the highest order. Our athletic and recreation facilities are adequate. But, as you know, all that we can do to help you is only half the process of training you. In the long run, your university education's essential factor will be how hard you yourselves work for that education. Our teachers – among the country's most competent in their respective fields – will be quite helpless if you fail to apply yourselves adequately to your studies. In any institution of learning, the student gets any what he works for and nothing more. It would help if you decided at the very start to work so hard that you will take every possible advantage of the opportunities offered you here. After all, the hard-working university student is not only working for high grades. At the same time, he is laying down his foundation of knowledge upon which to build all his life long and acquiring the habit of giving the best in him to the job he undertakes. A college student who fails to do this two-fold thing fails to acquire for himself the only lasting gift that a university can give. So let us all work together, keep faith together. And out of our everyday hardships and our ordinary achievements, we shall build greatness and create loyalty for our alma mater. The FEU campus teems with various student activities. There are 56 active student organizations in FEU, under the Office of the Student Affairs and the FEU Central Student Council or FEUCSO that fill the school year with numerous co-curricular projects. In this aspect, FEU is different from other universities since full management support is given to relevant student-initiated programs. Besides traditional activities such as general assemblies and team building activities, student organizations initiate other student-centered activities such as fairs, concerts, weekly performances, symposia on current and relevant issues, seminars, workshops, contests, and other projects in support of university-wide events. Amid the fun and excitement generated by these programs, student organizations do not forget to support community outreach programs that benefit less privileged members of society. This, among other initiatives, makes for a complete and dynamic student experience through co-curricular activities. The University Research Center (URC) articulates the vision-mission and aspirations of Far Eastern University (FEU) through continuous research, creative works, and recognized publications. With the support of an ethical, competent, professional, and dedicated academic community, URC envisions FEU as the leading university with a strong commitment to research, innovation, and publication. The URC commits to provide quality researches anchored on the highest ethical, academic, and professional standards. It serves as the pillar in providing sustainable support for research, creative works, and publications that will contribute to academic enhancement for community development, nation-building, and global involvement. FEU provides a research framework anchored on the National Higher Education Research Agenda (NHERA 2), which aims to develop interdisciplinary, policy-oriented, technology-driven research for sustainable development. Research endeavors value collaboration, integrity, and creativity, guided by the university's core values – Fortitude, Excellence, and Uprightness. Aligned with the university's commitment to sustainable urban development, the research agenda is focused on sustainability and urban studies, which can be utilized in framing related policies. The interdisciplinary nature of research on sustainability covers environmental, educational, cultural, social, and economic perspectives. Similarly, urban studies utilize various disciplinary lenses such as architecture, planning and settlements, culture, heritage, tourism, economics, public health, history, literature, planning, sociology, and political science, significant in conducting policy-impact projects. The research agenda and priorities of the different institutes are under the overarching research themes of sustainability and urban studies. Since its establishment in 1928 by founder Dr. Nicanor Reyes, Sr., FEU has been recognized as one of the Philippines' leading universities. The first Accountancy and Business school for Filipinos, the university has, through the years, expanded its course offerings to the Arts and Sciences, Architecture and Fine Arts, Education, Engineering and Computer Studies (FEU Institute of Technology), Graduate Studies, Law, and Medicine (FEU-Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation). True to its mission of producing graduates who have contributed to the advancement of the country, FEU is proud of its alumni to have been successful key government officials, influential accountants and businessmen, famous media personalities, innovative education administrators and faculty, expert physicians and nursing leaders, decorated national and professional athletes, cutting edge architects, artists, and engineers. Under the current leadership of Dr. Michael M. Alba, University President, along with a dynamic and cohesive team of academic and non-academic managers, the university continuously challenges itself to raise top-tier excellence status only in the Philippines but also in the Southeast Asian region. 5. A Leading State University in Technological and Professional Education. Develop a Strong Technologically and Professionally Competent Productive Human Resource Imbued with Positive Values Needed to Propel Sustainable Development. EVSU addresses its academic endeavors towards developing the socio-economic condition of region VIII by emphasizing human resources and necessary input to production and growth. It plays a significant role in providing the human resources for industrial agri-business enterprises and the small, medium, and large-scale industries, which are the components for regional development. The College of Architecture & Allied Discipline has its humble beginnings as a 4-year course under the Civil Engineering Department of the College of Engineering. The course was opened in 1976 by LIT Board Resolution No. 747, s. 1976. The program was revised into a five-year ladder-type curriculum in SY 1981-1982 thru Board Resolution No. 1288, s. 1980, in compliance with the Ministry of Education Culture and Sports (MECS) Order No. 32, s. 1979. in the same school year, the program became a separate department under the LIT College of Engineering. The Bachelor of Science in Interior design was approved in principle thru Board Resolution No. 30, s. 1998 and took effect in SY 1999-2000. In line with its commitment to pursue academic excellence, the college continues to produce quality graduates and board topnotchers. From 1990 to the present, it has produced two board placers in Interior Design and nine topnotchers in the Architects Licensure Examinations. It ranked fourth place in the top-performing schools in January 2004 Licensure Examinations. The College of Arts and Sciences began as a college in 1982 with Prof. Gaudencia Genotiva as Dean. Courage, risk-taking efforts, and deep commitment to development served as guiding principles in the pioneering stage of building a new college. The college started from barely a small room with only a table and a chair as facilities. It took time to "build" not only human resources but also physical resources. The college started with the supervision of two programs, namely Bachelor of Arts in (A.B.) Economics and Bachelor of Arts (A.B.) Accounting. Integrating the supervision of the "arts and sciences" of the Institute was a critical accomplishment made. The supervision of the first two years, which is general education program either discipline in the arts and sciences took much courage, but streamlined management for efficient and effective service resulted in the risk-taking efforts of the "pioneer" staff and faculty of the college built confidence in the whole Institute to continue developing this service college. The College of Business and Entrepreneurship started as a department under the College of Arts and Sciences. But because of the realignment of business-related courses, COBE was established as a separate College effective August 27, 2002, upon the Board of Trustees' approval. Society today is pervaded by a technology that is changing at an ever-accelerating pace. Every sector of the community is challenged to respond appropriately to the needs of the time. The Eastern Visayas State University, as a technological state university in this part of the region, continuously envisions offering relevant courses. Specifically, The College of Technology never ceases to be challenged in expanding and clarifying its functions. It has reevaluated the current emphasis of technology courses and has evaluated curricular functions that would best reflect current technological trends. It is an accepted fact that one of the main characteristics of the technological world is change. It can also be said that one of the main characteristics of an effective educational program in the school curriculum is change. The Eastern Visayas State University had its humble beginnings in 1907 as a Provincial school. It became a separate educational entity in 1915 and was renamed the Leyte Trade School, funded by the Provincial government. In 1953, after thirty-eight years, it was renamed as the National Provincial Trade School under R.A. 406 funded jointly by the National and Provincial Government to cover a wider curricular area. In 1961, the Congress of the Philippines passed Republic Act 1516, converting it into the Leyte Regional Arts and Trades and authorizing it to become a training institution for vocational and industrial education in Eastern Visayas. Finally, the Republic Act 4572 was enacted by the Philippines' congress, which took effect in the school year 1965-1966, further converting the school into a chartered college. It was renamed the Leyte Institute of Technology, an institute of higher learning committed to the service of a larger academic area of responsibility. For SY 1999-2000, LIT has its satellite campus, the Ormoc satellite Campus. In 1999, under the provisions of RA 7722, 8292 and 8745 and Board Resolutions No. 59, Series of 1999, two CHED Supervised institutions (CSIs) in Leyte, namely the Leyte College of Arts and Trades and the Burauen Polytechnic College, were integrated to LIT. The LIT Dulag Campus started in SY 2000-20001. The Carigara School of Fisheries was integrated into LIT, the second phase of CSIs institution to SUCs. In 2002-2003, LIT had continued accomplishing its significant role and responsibility to the people in the region. The introduction of new programs, technological and business, the realignment of courses, and the high-passing percentage of the engineering and other professional programs established a great challenge and tremendous responsibility to the institution. Finally, in 2004, Republic Act 9311 converted the Leyte Institute of Technology into Eastern Visayas State University, a challenge to serve Eastern Visayas through academic excellence and technological development. 6. The Eastern Samar State University had its incipience on February 14, 1960 (as the Eastern Samar National Regional Agricultural School or ESNRAS) through R.A. 2434. Its pioneer classes started with 120 students holding sessions in a rented building in Borongan. Before the school year ended, the school site was relocated and established in Malbog, a far-flung barrio of Borongan, reachable only by climbing steep mountains and crossing creeks. In 1967, the school was resettled to its present site, approximately seven kilometers away from the capital town of Borongan. A synergistic multi-campus university is producing competent, value-laden, and globally competitive graduates who are proactive in promoting the country's economic prosperity. The University shall primarily provide advanced education, higher professional and technological instruction and training in the fields of agriculture, arts and sciences, business and industry, computer and information technology, education, engineering, environmental sciences, fishery, forestry, law and criminal justice, medicine and allied sciences, and other related fields of study. The seal of the University is circular, which bears the inscription "Eastern Samar State University". The three bars at the center, forming a triangle, represent the mandated functions of the University, are Instruction, Research, and Extension. Every student has the right to enroll at the Eastern Samar State University, provided he/she meets the University's specific requirements and reasonable regulations. The student is expected to complete any course without prejudice to the right to transfer except for disciplinary cases and academic delinquencies. As a general rule, no application to the University shall be enrolled in any course unless proper credentials as prescribed are submitted before the end of the enrolment period. As the essential requirement for admission of a student to any tertiary level degree program shall be a graduate from the secondary level recognized by the Department of Education. Students at Ohio University Eastern are engaged beyond the classroom. For instance, our array of student clubs and organizations offer chances to develop leadership skills and find a community of peers with common interests. The mission of Ohio University Eastern is to provide access to affordable and high-quality educational opportunities to residents of the Upper Ohio Valley. As a regional campus of Ohio University, our students benefit from the resources of an internationally recognized university with the advantages of a small college environment. The campus offers associate's and bachelor's degrees and opportunities for continuing education taught by dedicated and accomplished faculty in small classes. Ohio University Eastern is dedicated to enriching the cultural, physical, and professional well-being of the community. Ohio University's Eastern Campus provides a wide variety of academic support services to assist students with their college journey. Not only does the campus have its Library, but support for students with individual needs is also provided by our Accessibility and Counseling Services. If students need extra help, a Writing and Math Center is staffed during the busiest times during the school days. In the 1950's, the need for veterans returning from the Second World War to afford educational opportunities increased. To accommodate this need, a series of regional campuses of the State University System of Ohio began to emerge. Ohio University would have the dubious honor of trying to provide educational programs and courses throughout southeast Ohio, an area representing almost one-third of the state. The city of Martin's Ferry became the initial location of the University Campus established in eastern Ohio. Under the leadership of the Belmont County Commission and Consolidated Coal, over 330 acres of land was dedicated along the National Road near St. Clairsville as an educational site on what was once an experimental agricultural farm. It was the vision of then Governor James Rhodes to have a post-secondary educational facility located within 30 miles of every resident in Ohio. Shannon Hall, the main academic building on the campus, was named after an early governor in the state. As educational opportunities increased in the area, a science and engineering building was leased to Belmont College. A Health and Physical Education Recreation Community Center was established in 1997, completing the campus's present-day setting. The grounds are also home to a one-room schoolhouse, an 1800's tavern/roadhouse used by those traveling the National Road, and a covered bridge on the eastern side of the campus property.
  8. At UEF, interdisciplinarity is not something we do, it's who we are. We seek to be number one in Finland when it comes to academic learning environments. We offer first-class education that is bound to make a difference. We are one of the largest universities in Finland and home to approximately 15,000 students and 2,800 members. Our campuses are located in Joensuu, Kuopio and Savonlinna. UEF is a multidisciplinary university, which offers teaching in more than 100 major subjects. We have four faculties: the Philosophical Faculty, the Faculty of Science and Forestry, the Faculty of Health Sciences, and the Faculty of Social Sciences and Business Studies. Our activities underscore multidisciplinarity. Our key interdisciplinary research areas are built around four global challenges. These challenges are Ageing, lifestyles, and health Learning in a digitized society. Cultural encounters, mobilities and borders, and Environmental change and sufficiency of natural resources. In addition to a high standard of teaching, we offer our students a modern study environment under constant development. Student well-being is among our primary concerns. We have extensive international relations and are involved in several international networks. Our teaching and research staff and students are active in participating in various mobility programs. We have concluded bilateral agreements of cooperation with approximately 100 universities abroad. Furthermore, we are involved in several international networks and discipline-specific projects. Together with our networks, we support the well-being and positive development of eastern Finland. Our goal is to be ranked among the leading 200 research universities globally and, in the vital research areas, among the world's leading 50 research universities. The preparations for the establishment of the University of Eastern Finland began in 2006. In October 2006, the Ministry of Education chose the collaboration model between the University of Joensuu and the University of Kuopio as one of the national-level spearhead projects in structural development. Led by Professor Reijo Vihko, the working group's report preparing the project was completed in February 2007. The project's objective was to establish the University of Eastern Finland, which was to be a federal university in terms of its administrative structure. Initially, the collaboration between the University of Joensuu and the University of Kuopio was rooted in their aspirations to obtain a shared right to confer degrees in economics and business administration. However, already in Vihko's working group's report, the collaboration was extended to natural sciences and social sciences. However, the federal university was never formed, as the preparations for a full merger of the universities and their activities were launched in autumn 2007. In spring 2008, the University Senates of both universities approved the merger and the scientific and administrative structures the new university was to have. In 2009, a strategy and administrative regulations were prepared for the University of Eastern Finland, and the contents of the degree programs were decided upon. The right to confer degrees in economics and business administration was obtained at the merger in 2010. In other words, the University of Eastern Finland was built on a tight schedule, and it began operations at the beginning of 2010. The University of Joensuu was established in 1969. In Finnish, it was first known as Joensuun korkeakoulu and, since 1984, as Joensuun yliopisto. In the beginning, the main focus of the university was on teacher education. Forest sciences were the first field of study not linked to teacher education that began to be taught in Joensuu after a long and colorful debate in 1982. In addition to forest sciences, the launch of education in theology was also a topic that inspired plenty of discussions. The degree program in Orthodox Theology began in 1988. Western Theology became available for subject teachers in 1997, and education in Western Theology leading to positions within the church began in 2001. Before the merger of the University of Joensuu and the University of Kuopio, Bachelor's, Master's, and doctoral level education was offered at the University of Joensuu in eight fields of study. The University of Kuopio was established in 1972, offering education in medicine, medical physics, and biochemistry. The year 1973 witnessed the launch of education in pharmacy, dentistry, and environmental hygiene. The University of Kuopio was first known in Finnish as Kuopion korkeakoulu and, since 1984, as Kuopion yliopisto. In 1984, the university began offering education in social work and clinical nutrition. In 2002, the University of Kuopio was the largest provider of medical education in Finland. Before the merger, the University of Kuopio had five faculties. Our strategy is built around global challenges for which we seek to find solutions through interdisciplinary research and education. Research and education constitute means for creating a responsible and sustainable future. The university's Board approved the updated strategy on 22 February. We have identified the development of our learning environments as one of our most important goals. The best academic learning environment in Finland is built around innovative teaching methods, research-based education, diverse use of facilities, and transparency. Under the leadership of our motivated teachers, we are creating a new culture of teaching. The teaching we offer is of a high standard and is based on the latest research findings, enabling us to train professionals for the rapidly changing working life needs. We support this process by renewing our campus facilities with flexibility, inspiration, and technology in mind. At UEF, we want to create a culture of open science and technology that enables seamless collaboration between our students' own devices and the university's devices and technology. From day one, we want to make our students feel welcome as new scientific community members. We invest in supporting flexible study paths, and to this end, we have created a new digital environment, Kamu, for our students. Our work to develop our learning environments is rooted in student-centredness. Together, we are building a university of tomorrow.

Over 90 years ago, on March 19, 1924, at 1:30 p.m. in the American Baptist Publication Society's headquarters on Chestnut Street in Philadelphia, six Baptist ministers founded what was then called the Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary. According to Gordon Baker, Pastor of First Baptist Church of Schenectady, NY at the time, and one of the six founders at that meeting ninety years ago that afternoon, the seminary was founded to provide Baptist churches with pastors were both biblically informed and also culturally relevant. Soon after that, college courses were added to the seminary curriculum to upgrade prospective ministerial students' academic qualifications. Eastern University was founded in 1932 as a collegiate division of Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary. In 1951, Eastern Baptist College was organized as an independent institution and relocated to the former Charles S. Walton estate in St. Davids, PA. Early in 1972, the school's legal name was changed to Eastern College: a Baptist Institution. A few years later, a correspondence school was added. It was an attempt to meet the educational needs of those who could neither travel to Philadelphia nor whose current life situation made theological education feasible to access. Eastern's commitment to shaping education and curriculum to the adult learner continues through its graduate and adult undergraduate programs today. The first Eastern College graduate program (MBA) was approved in 1981. Because of its growing complexity and expansion into international venues, Eastern College was granted University status in December 2001. State, institutional, and private aid are still available. This restriction does not apply to students taking certificate programs as a part of a more extensive degree program or teacher certifications. Financial aid available for summer 2018 is based on your remaining annual eligibility from the 2017-2018 school year. In general, most summer financial aid is loans only, although you may qualify for a Pell Grant in the summer if you are Pell-eligible. Certain restrictions apply, and eligibility will need to be determined by the Financial Aid and Scholarship office. Students eligible for the College Bound Scholarship (CBS) may also obtain CBS during the summer term. However, any CBS funding used during the summer counts against the 12 quarter maximum on the program. In 1882, Benjamin P. Cheney Academy opened its doors to more than 200 enrolling students. A generous contribution of $10,000 from Benjamin P. Cheney, a wealthy transportation industrialist, had at last fulfilled the dreams of Cheney citizens who had long desired an institute for higher learning in their community. The academy became the State Normal School at Cheney in 1889, the same year Washington was given its statehood. The school was proudly designated as an institution "for the instruction of persons, both male and female, in the art of teaching the various branches that pertain to a good common school." By the time it became Eastern Washington College of Education in 1937, Eastern was already a fully accredited four-year, degree-granting institution, offering majors in numerous subjects. The campus proliferated in size and program offerings in the decades following World War II. In 1961, the name was again changed, this time to Eastern Washington State College. It was increasingly evident that the region needed professionals in many fields. In response, Eastern added a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Finally, in 1977, the state Legislature changed the school's name to Eastern Washington University.
