  1. The University of Szczecin, founded 33 years ago, may boast itself on the fact that it is West Pomerania’s largest university. The city and university are located in direct geographical and cultural proximity to Germany (ca. 150 kilometers from Berlin) and within a 100-kilometer distance from the Baltic Sea. Szczecin is often referred to as the “Paris of the North” due to its original urban design, i.e. distinctive star-shaped squares and roundabouts. The city is especially valued for its green spaces there are plenty of parks and lush green squares. The University of Szczecin is a new, dynamic, and, what is most important, successful university. Developing a lot of projects throughout many years we're able to acquire funds equaling 20 million zlotys, mostly from the European Union. The University of Szczecin has honored for their contributions to science and society, i.e. granted the title of doctor honoris causa, we may find: Dr. Manfred Stolpe, Hans-Dietrich Genscher, Christopher F. Patten, Günter Verheugen, Prof. John D. Barrow, and Prof. Richard Pipes. The University of Szczecin is a dynamically developing institution with over thirty thousand students, half of which study extramurally. Our students may choose from 44 major courses. The offer of post-graduate courses equals 58, with over 2000 students currently attending. The MBA studies available at the Faculty of Economics and Management currently have 82 attending students. Every year, there are about 500 doctoral students at our university. The university has the right to confer doctoral degrees in fourteen disciplines: biology, economics, geography, history, pedagogy, philosophy, law, management, linguistics, literature studies, theology, physics, mathematics, and political science. Seven faculties have the authority to confer the degree of doctor of science, i.e. the faculties of Humanities, Philology, Biology, Management and Economics of Services, Law, and Administration, Economics and Management, and Geosciences.
  2. Our University is a technical school with over a 60-year-old tradition. Three faculties (Faculty of Navigation, Faculty of Marine Engineering, Faculty of Economics and Transport Engineering) offering 9 specializations study 4 000 students a year. Our mission is to educate highly qualified maritime staff i.e. navigators and mechanics answering the needs of contemporary transport and fishing fleet as well as offshore staff prepared to implement computer software and systems for supporting the transfer of information in the transport-forwarding-logistics industry. The University has over 100 well-equipped laboratories, a modern research-training vessel the m/s Navigator XXI, and 16 technically most advanced simulators: Marine Centrifugal Pump's Simulator, Ship Handling Simulator, Anti-Collision ARPA Simulator, Electronic Chart Display, and Information System (ECDIS) Simulator, Vessel Traffic System (VTS) Simulator, Satellite Communication System Simulator - GMDSS, Hydro-Acoustic Simulator, Autopilot Simulator, Radar Simulator, Cargo Handling Simulator, Fishing Simulator, Operational Engine Room Simulator, Graphical Engine Room Simulator, Refrigeration Simulator, Marine Centrifugal Pump's Simulator, Full-Mission Bridge Simulator with several virtual bridges and Engine Room Simulator. They make our University one of the best-equipped maritime universities in the world. To add, we participate in numerous international projects and actively apply for funds to the EU funding instruments. In the years 2007-2013, we gained over 18 mln € for different purposes, from research through lifelong learning to infrastructure. The Maritime University of Szczecin is a state school governed by the Ministry of Transport, Construction, and Maritime Economy. It consists of 3 Faculties which in turn are divided into smaller units (institutes, chairs, and departments). The head of the University is a Rector - an eminent figure elected for 4 years who also serves as the titular head of the University. The Rector has 3 deputies elected for 4 years responsible for a given field: Vice-Rector for Science, Vice-Rector for Teaching, Vice-Rector for Maritime Affairs. The Chancellor is employed on a contract basis and is responsible for the policies of personnel and equality and planning. The Bursar employed on a contract basis presides over the finances, accounting, and resources.

By studying in Szczecin one gets the additional benefit of learning about a new culture. Naturally, medical studies take up much of the student's everyday life, but Szczecin can provide a broad spectrum of activities to do in your spare time. Activities range from golf, football, and sports gyms to bowling, pool, and pub crawling. The city has a wide cultural life with its philharmonic orchestra, opera, art galleries, clubs, etc. Our students often search for a superior place to meet friends, relax or just sip a cup of hot coffee, and fortunately, Szczecin has plenty of such places. Considering that English Program students are from various corners of the world, studies at PMU offer not only excellent training for future doctors or dentists but also a fantastic opportunity to live and work in a diverse environment where one can learn a new language, understand another culture or even observe different scientific approaches and techniques.
