      1. Gdynia Maritime University is the largest state school of higher maritime education in Poland and one of the largest in Europe. Since 1920 the University has been preparing graduates for officer positions on board merchant marine vessels and managerial positions at the land-based institutions and companies representing the maritime industry and seaside regions. The University's four Faculties offer a degree in Navigation, Marine Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Entrepreneurship, and Quality Science. At present Gdynia Maritime University provides studies for 5000 students. The programs of studies satisfy both Polish educational standards provided by the Ministry of Education and also the requirements of the International Maritime Organization – IMO. The academic staff – representing doctor of science degree and scientific titles of a professor accompanied, in many cases, by the highest marine diplomas of a Master Mariner, Chief Engineer Officer, and Shipboard Electrical Engineer – supported by the laboratory facilities offering 25 specialized simulators and ISO 9001:2008 education quality management system implemented by the University. The Maritime University actively co-operates in the conduct of joint research projects, preparation of young generation academic staff, and in the exchange of students with 18 maritime institutions of higher education within international organizations such as the European University Association (EUA) and International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU). The new strategy for further growth and development adopted by the Senate of Gdynia Maritime University will ensure the strengthening of the University's role as a worldwide marine-oriented center of studies and training preparing professionals – citizens of the World. The Strategy for Development of Gdynia Maritime University is consistent with the assumptions of the maritime policy of the Republic of Poland up to the year 2020 (with the prospect up to 2030), which is determined and described by the Integrated Policy of the European Union and the Ministerial Programme for the Development of Higher Education and Science for the Years 2015-2030. It is consistent also with the University mission, according to which Gdynia Maritime Academy by conducting scientific research significantly enhances knowledge related to the development and operation of technical systems in the maritime economy, and by educating students – prepare, on the highest level, personnel who can effectively handle challenges of the contemporary maritime economy, especially maritime transport on the national and international scale. Meeting the economic needs of the country and the region Gdynia Maritime University shapes among its student's attitudes that are characterized by entrepreneurship and respect for the principles of sustainable development. Gdynia Maritime University expresses its opinions and advises on matters relating to the maritime economy and the education of personnel for the needs of the maritime economy. The most important values for Gdynia Maritime University are truth and reliability in science and education, a close connection of an educational process and the needs of the economic surrounding, innovativeness, and openness. The strategy of Gdynia Maritime University complies with the priorities of the Europe 2020 Strategy and the Long-term Strategy for the Country Development (Poland) 2030 as well as with the Regional Development Strategy of the Voivodship of Pomorskie until 2020.
