The Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB) will soon be completing one full century of operation. Through the efforts of thousands of members of the University community over this period, AUEB has attained recognition as a center of educational and scientific excellence and as a source of intellectual wealth for our country.

The scientific identity of AUEB is defined by its three Schools: the School of Economic Sciences, the School of Business, and the School of Information Sciences and Technology. These are the scientific disciplines in which AUEB holds a leading position and receives international recognition. AUEB'sAUEB's eight Departments occupy top positions in prospective undergraduate students' preferences, its popular full-time and part-time Master'sMaster's programs, and as ithighhightqualityral programs, contribute to AUEB'sAUEB's ranking among the top universities internationally.

Everyone working at AUEB, through their skills and efforts, helps us fulfill our dual objectives of educating students who are distinguished by their scientific knowledge and imbued with moral values and of awarding degrees that have earned recognition in the international job market. We consider it essential to provide an academic environment of high aesthetics, ensuring respect for freedom of thought and speech. We aim to serve as a source of excellence and contribute through our collaborations to the economy's growth and the resolution of critical social problems. We believe that, by imparting knowledge and high-quality scientific education to our students, we help pave the way for continual progress.

AUEB is a State University under the supervision of the Ministry of Education. Its central decision-making bodies are the following:

    • The University Senate
    • The Rector

The University Senate is a representative body consisting of the Rector, the three Deputy Rectors, the Chairman, one faculty representative for each academic Department of the University, and representatives of students and the administrative staff. The University Senate constitutes the highest decision-making body of the University.

The Rector is the leader of the University. He/she has the responsibility of developing the strategy to be followed by the University and for implementing the decisions taken by the Senate. He/she is the person who can represent the University in all decisions, international and state bodies, and official functions. According to Greek law, the Rector is elected in University elections every four years, where the faculty members vote.

Decisions on the academic affairs of each Department are made by the Department'sDepartment's General Assembly, which consists of the Department'sDepartment's faculty members and student representatives. Decisions on academic, financial, and administrative matters usually involve the formation of ad hoc committees. Standing committees are also formed on an annual basis, e.g., for the Library, the Computer Center, etc. The Director of each graduate program is a Professor appointed by the General Assembly of the corresponding Department.
