Firstly, the school was opened in September 2009 by Rhodri Morgan. It is a magnificent facility that is packed with specialized equipment and resources. Ysgol Pen Coch is a local authority day special school located in Flint. We cater for children and young people aged 2 – 11 years who have profound and multiple learning difficulties/ severe learning difficulties/are on the autistic spectrum /have complex learning difficulties or with severe challenging behavior. Our catchment area is Flintshire. Currently, we cater for 94 pupils. We have an Assessment Nursery at the top end of the school, four foundation classes in the middle section of the building, and six Key stages 2 classes spread out at the furthest end of the school. All pupils have a Statement of Special Educational Needs or are in the process of having their needs assessed. Our adult/pupil ratios are very high to ensure that individual care and educational needs can be. The class-based staff are supported by our nursing and therapy staff teams We have a long-standing commitment to providing children with unrivaled levels of integrated therapeutic support, both in terms of the expertise and experience of our in-house therapy staff and the wide range of therapies and support offered. We also benefit from input from the LEA’s sensory impairment team and advice from local authority educational psychologists. We share data from assessments that members of our senior management team conduct, for research purposes to help determine how best our provision can be adapted to meet the needs of each child, and research papers are published for an international readership. Ysgol Pen Barras is a Welsh-medium County Primary School with some 260 pupils between the ages of three and eleven. The school, located on Ffordd Glasdir, Rhuthun, is an extremely successful school, which sets high standards, and endeavors to develop children in a stimulating yet homely environment, providing opportunities for pupils to fulfill their potential. Parcyrhun School is situated on the outskirts of the town of Ammanford in Carmarthenshire. The school which opened in 1909 is a Category A/B school, a school that has both Welsh and English streams. There are approximately 195 pupils on the roll in mixed ability classes. A Resource Base for the Hearing Impaired was established at the school in 2004. 9 classrooms are accommodating the local Cylch Meithrin and 8 mainstream classes. An additional classroom on the schoolyard is used by the Resource Base for the Hearing Impaired. We have a school hall which lies at the heart of school life at Parcyrhun. This is where we meet for assemblies, dinner, P.E. lessons, Breakfast and After School Clubs, and extracurricular activities! Parcyrhun School has a friendly, hard-working staff team. Each member of the teaching staff has responsibilities for areas of the curriculum. The school is committed to continuing professional development to enable all staff to carry out their roles effectively. In addition to the teaching staff, many classroom assistants provide valuable support. Approximately 36% of the children are on the ALN register and receive additional support as appropriate. The school is also well served by a full-time school clerk and four mid-day supervisors. Ysgol Parc Y Llan is a local authority community primary school, providing full-time education for both boys and girls, between 4 years (Reception) and 11 years (Year 6). It also provides a part-time Nursery for children in September following their 3rd birthday. Pupils are taught through the medium of English, with Welsh being taught as a second language. The school was built in 1992 and is positioned within the rural village of Treuddyn on the same site as Ysgol Terrig, a Welsh-medium school. Some facilities on the site are shared by the two schools (hall, committee room, and playing field). The school has a Foundation Phase classroom and two classrooms for Key Stage Two children, a Nursery Foundation Phase unit, library, AVA room/computer suite, a central atrium area, secretary and headteacher’s offices, staff room, committee room, and hall. There also toilets for the pupils and staff and boys and girls changing rooms. School meals are cooked on the premises by the cook and her assistant. Outside there is ample playing area for all the pupils: the Foundation Phase has its fenced-off area (including covered area) with a sandpit, stage, and a planting area. There is also a large hard surface playground at the rear of the school. During the fine weather, pupils are allowed on the large playing fields which provide plenty of opportunity for games and recreational activities. There is a wildlife pond and a wooded area at the back of the school. Access to the school is gained through the front gate of the school, off Ffordd Y Llan, and a gate leading from Bryn Yr Ysgol Road to the side of the school. Ysgol Pant y Rhedyn is a community junior school in Llanfairfechan in the county of Conwy, North Wales. We have approximately 141 children aged between 7 and 11 and they are taught in 6 classes. The majority of the teaching staff are very experienced and have been working at the school for several years. One of the teachers acts as Additional Needs Coordinator (ALNCo) and the school also employs classroom assistants to support the delivery of the curriculum and to support basic skills and pupils requiring full-time additional support. The Foundation Phase has increased staff ratios to support the delivery of the curriculum in this phase of the children’s learning. School meals are prepared on the premises by County Council-approved staff. There is currently 5% of pupils entitled to free school meals. View full school
