      1. Aarhus International School (AIS) formerly known as Aarhus Academy for Global Education (AAGE), founded in 2011, is a private day school for students of expatriate and Danish families interested in an English language program of studies that prepares students for higher education. As an IB World school, both the Middle Years Programme (January 2016) and the Primary Years Programme (June 2016) are fully authorized. AIS is also recognized by the Danish educational authorities as it complies with Danish requirements for international schools. The school is housed on two separate campuses, with the pre-school and kindergarten located in Hojbjerg, a suburb of Aarhus, while facilities for grades 1-10 are on Dalgas Avenue near the center of Aarhus. At an enrollment now of over 300 students from 34 different nationalities, AIS is fulfilling the Municipality’s goal to provide English language education for children of parents in its growing international and Danish populations. AIS follows two (PYP and MYP) of the International Baccalaureate’s (IB) educational programs. The IB is a recognized leader within the field of international education and its programs can be found in over 4,000 schools across some 155 countries, thus enabling easy transfers for students among these schools. Both programs offer an interdisciplinary approach to education that provides students with an understanding of the world around them, how various components interact with each other along the skills needed for successful interaction as lifelong learners. Whereas the PYP curriculum focuses on the whole child with an emphasis on essential elements such as attitudes, concepts, knowledge, skills, and action, the MYP curriculum covers a range of subjects including language acquisition, language and literature, individuals and societies, mathematics, science, the arts, and physical education. Upon successful completion of the IB’s assessment exams after the MYP5 year, the Certificate earned will allow students to enter the highly respected and globally accepted IB Diploma Programme (DP) offered by Langkaer Gymnasium in the Aarhus area.
