      1. As a member of the Institut Sankt Joseph Community, We witness how our educational ideals are put into practice every day. It is my mission to make sure that each child has access to an academically challenging liberal arts education, which is composed of an ambitious and caring school environment that is grounded in professionalism, solidarity, and Catholic-humanistic ideals. In everyday teaching, we value sufficient time for dialogue, reflection, and thoughtfulness, also about existential and religious issues. It is our goal that every student’s intellectual, creative and spiritual development are developed together as they grow at our school. We offer a vibrant and unique international environment, with students representing over 50 countries worldwide which makes for a diverse student body – culturally, religiously, and socio-economically. An interactive process where children are included in open and trusting relationships, and whereby the teaching staff has the desire and skills necessary to help open up the world to every child. Institut Sankt Joseph was established November 17, 1858, by the St. Joseph Sisters Society, which governed the school until March of 1976. The school was started as an all girl´s academy and stayed that way until 1968 when boys were also admitted. The school’s main building was built in 1914-15, and in 1928 the building underwent a major expansion, wherein a physics and biology lab was added. The building was designed by architect Christian Mandrup-Poulsen, who also designed the sisters’ convent and Jeanne d’Arc School. An inner acquisition and processing system, where children process the influences that he /she meets through interaction with the outside world. The starting point is the child’s experience and prior learning. At Institut Sankt Joseph Copenhagen, we strive to bring the following formation ideas into reality: Every child shall be educated and formed in the values of community, democracy, and equal human dignity. Every child shall have an understanding and an insight into other religions, nationalities, languages, and cultures. Every child shall have self-awareness with a growing recognition of their strengths and values. Every child shall use their abilities for learning, creativity, and proficiency. Every child´s worldview and belief system shall be developed and made more mature. Every child will want to use himself for the benefit of other human beings and the world to create more freedom, justice, and peace. Every child shall have the ability and courage to make ethically founded choices, and know that choices have consequences. Every child shall leave the school with specific competencies, courage to take on life, and a desire for lifelong learning. Students from ISJ will be positive members of society by being polite and empathetic towards others. View full school
