The school is an Infant/Junior School and therefore caters to children from the age of 3 to 11 years. The Authority has categorized the School as a Dual-stream school. This means that the school can offer English medium or Welsh-medium education. The children in the English classes are taught Welsh as a second language whilst the children in the Welsh classes are taught Welsh as the main medium of communication. Children leave the school in the July following their 11th birthday, to attend a local Comprehensive School - usually Dyffryn Taf or Bro Myrddin. At Ysgol Llangelynnin we have a group of hard-working and faithful parents and friends who work alongside our teachers and wider members of the community to support our school. The purpose of the Friends group is to support our educational aims through various social activities and raise funds. The Friends group is an important part of school life and that outlines the emphasis we put on parental partnerships. Every year the school council is elected through the process of a vote to choose one boy, and one girl from each year to represent their class. Following the election in September, these are your school council members for 2017/2018. The school council is allowed to meet regularly with Mrs. Ceris Elwen and Mr. Ellis to arrange numerous activities throughout the year. They are encouraged to come up with innovative ways of ensuring each pupil's voice is heard and considered in important decisions that affect the school. This year the school council is eager to develop our outdoor playing and learning areas and has been busy collecting ideas from each class. The Cylch is registered with the Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales and Estyn. All children who attend the Cylch complete a Registration Form and Information Form, before they start. Registration Forms are available from the Cylch Leader. We aim to provide a fun, secure environment for your children to relax and play after their day in school. Ysgol Llanfair DC is a bilingual, rural, Church in Wales school. It is situated around two miles outside the town of Ruthin and serves families from the communities of Llanfair DC, Pwllglas, and the surrounding areas. The children can choose to have their education in Welsh or English to ensure that every child becomes fluently bilingual. We provide a happy, caring, and safe learning environment and support each child to learn and develop to their utmost ability during their period in primary school. We value and respect our pupils and encourage them to develop skills to become confident individuals, aware of the wellbeing of others, and happy and responsible members of society. During these past years, a lot of evidence has been collected to support the opinion that diet has a direct effect on health. Therefore we try to promote the importance of healthy eating. Children are not allowed to bring sweets, crisps, biscuits, cakes, or chocolate to eat during playtime. Alternatively, fruit can be bought from the school at 20p a day (£1 a week), or fruit can be brought from home. If your child decides to bring a packed lunch, we strongly advise that you include healthy food, sandwiches, pasta, cheese, yogurt, raw vegetables and fruit, and so on. Try and avoid foods that are full of fat and sugar. There is a water cooler in the school and we ask each child to bring a bottle to school every day. The purpose of the Pupil Deprivation Grant is to improve the educational attainment of pupils from low-income families and who are entitled to free school meals (FSM). Ysgol Llandegfan serves the village of Llandegfan and the neighboring rural area. Pupils also travel from outside the school’s natural catchment area. The school serves a widely spread linguistically and socially diverse community. No effort is spared to ensure that every pupil feels part of the school family. The current school building was opened in 1972 and commands magnificent views of Snowdonia, but education has been provided in the village for over a century in the Old School which is located about 200 meters up the road from the current school. It is the only school building of its design in the U.K. and has won prizes on account of its architecture. Its semi-open-plan design and varying levels offer stimulating teaching opportunities. In 2006 a new extension was completed with two new classrooms as well as a room for the local nursery schools and Kids Club. Although every teacher is responsible for the behavior of his/her class, all the staff at the school follow the same principles to uphold behavior, adhering to the Golden Rules in all aspects of school life and adhering to the same system of praising and sanctioning. In certain instances of misbehavior, the children will have the opportunity to calm down on the Quiet Chair, or sometimes the child will be kept in over playtime. If a child persistently or seriously misbehaves, the parents are asked to come to the school to discuss the matter with the Headteacher. The school is named after the Victorian radical politician John Bright who came to the town for respite and whose young son was buried here. After almost one hundred years the school had outgrown its previous premises and in September 2004 the new school opened on a 25-acre site with excellent facilities. It was built as part of a PFI project and a facilities management company handles caretaking, cleaning, and catering. Heol Goffa is a local authority day special school located on the outskirts of Llanelli, near Park Howard and the village of Felinfoel. We cater to children and young people aged 3 – 19 years who have severe learning difficulties (SLD) or profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD). Our catchment area is the whole county of Carmarthenshire, as we are the only special school in the county that caters to SLD and PMLD. Currently, we have 85 pupils on the roll, taught in 11 class groups. All pupils have a Statement of Special Educational Needs or are in the process of having their needs assessed. Our adult/pupil ratios are very high to ensure that individual care and educational needs can be met – a typical class would have 1 teacher and 3 teaching assistants for 8 pupils. However, a few pupils who have the most complex needs are supported on a 1:1 basis. The class-based staff is supported by the physiotherapy and occupational therapy service as well as the speech and language therapy service. We also benefit from input from the LEA’s sensory impairment team and advice from our link educational psychologist. Whole school facilities include a purpose-built PMLD classroom, sensory rooms, a soft play area, outdoor sensory gardens, rebound therapy facilities, an adventure play area, and outdoor learning areas. The Sensory Curriculum has been designed for our pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) who require specialized management for physical disabilities, sensory impairment, and complex medical needs. The Sensory Curriculum focuses on supporting and developing the pupil’s strengths and abilities. The Curriculum is multi-sensory in focus and flexible to be responsive to the needs of the individual pupil and it is delivered in an integrated manner incorporating learning, therapy, and health needs. Students in the 6th Form follow a Life Skills and Essential Skills course accredited through Agored Cymru (Welsh awarding organization specializing in meeting the needs of all learners in Wales ) backed up by modules from ASDAN (Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network). These are designed to provide a full range of opportunities to develop existing skills and to acquire new ones. The 3-year course aims to maximize each pupil’s level of independence as fully as possible. The life skills course is modular with credits awarded on the successful completion of each module. The modules start at Entry Level 1 moving through to Entry 3 to allow for progression. The course has been designed and written by the teaching staff of Ysgol Heol Goffa in collaboration with Agored Cymru to ensure that it best meets the needs of our learners. ASDAN Towards Independence provides a framework of activities through which personal, social, and independence skills can be developed and accredited for those with severe learning difficulties (SLD) and profound multiple learning difficulties (PMLD). Towards Independence offers formal recognition for small steps of achievement towards a larger goal. Modules can be used separately and accumulated to build a record of personal achievement. Work-related Education and Careers Guidance. Work-related education is an important part of the ‘Life Skills’ course in the senior school, where possible it provides students with the opportunity to learn and develop skills in a workplace environment.
